IPhoto 9.6 is stuck at 1% (or sometimes 99%) Repairing

My iphoto library location is on my local network drive mounted with AFP protocol. It is Western Digital My Cloud. All my photo files are located on that drive
(speed is max of 1Gb/s)
iPhoto took a day or two to build the db with about 10k photos, total size is about 15GB only though.
I could never reopen iPhoto successfully yet.
iPhoto is stuck at repairing the db(at 1% or sometimes in between or at 99%)
Here is the complete report sent to Apple.

I forgot to mention that iPhoto indeed worked with the above setup with the iphoto library on the NAS(with 20-30 files). I was hoping it was one-time setup(import) that is all I have to pay in time upfront. Not for my trickle load of 1 or two photos daily. Apparently iPhoto does not scale well. I counted 27 threads for the iphoto executable. Why does it take close to 24 hours to import is beyond me. I can download 15GB from internet faster than this ...
I fail to understand the technological bottleneck!
Regarding the file format it is some proprietary format(may be linux ext...), but it surely did work fine...
Please see below:
The Western Digital units mentioned above use a proprietary file system and cannot be reformatted as FAT32, NTFS, or a Mac File System.
The file system on the WD My Cloud EX2, WD My Cloud EX4, WD My Cloud, WD My Book Live, WD My Book Live Duo, WD ShareSpace, WD ShareSpace, WD TV Live Hub, My Net N900 Central, WD My Book World Edition, WD NetCenter hard drives support access from Windows, Mac and most Linux based computer systems through a SAMBA network sharing connection.

Why does my iphoto seem to get "stuck" a lot of the times when I try to exit it to the point where I have to "force quit" it and how do I fix the problem that causes it?

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
does this only happen when you try to quit iPhoto?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
    what type of Mac?
how much free space on your boot drive?
    Happy Holidays

  • Can anyone help me. Every time I open iPhoto 9.2 and try to go to photo stream iPhoto quits unexpectedly.  When I reopen I get "iPhoto has detected inconsistencies in your library.  Please click Repair to avoid any potential problems."

Can anyone help me.  I have iPhoto 9.2 and  Mac OS X 10.7.2.
Every time I open iPhoto 9.2 and try to go to photo stream iPhoto quits unexpectedly.  When I reopen I get "iPhoto has detected inconsistencies in your library.  Please click Repair to avoid any potential problems."
I have read plenty of the posts on the subject and it seems that deleting the "3ivx" fixed the problem.  I looked at the detaied reports and see where it says "
    Library/Application Support/3ivx" etc..
On my report it says "/Library/Application Support/iLifeMediaBrowser/*/iLMBiPhoto8Plugin".  Does this help with an answer?

I am also having this crashing problem. I am running lion on a 2010 mac mini. My iPhoto library is kept on an external drive. I just upgraded to iPhoto 11 and everytime I try to enable photo stream the app crashes. I have tried all the above suggestions, including re-installing iphoto from the Mac App store. Below are the first 50 lines of the error message. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • IPhoto Book Purchasing procedure stuck

I cannot complete the procedure to purchase the book from iPhoto, as a telephone number is a mandatory field and it keep showing error - does not accept the entry.
The issue is that most phone numbers in Italy (both home and mobile) have 6 or 7 digits, but this field in iPhoto book requires 8 digits (no more no less than that) and does not accept space or other characters to fill the missing digit.
Did someone experienced the same? Can someone help in fixing this bug?

Search the forums - several people have figured this out - for one it was not including the + that their country normally has - for another it was moving a digit from one field to another field
You might add leading 0s to make the full 8 digits
In the US the phone number is ten digits all numeric in the form of aaa-ppp-nnnn - can you use that format?

  • How do I get rid of the adjust window in iphoto.  It is stuck there and it won't go away.

How do I get rid of the 'adjust' window on my photo.  I click on the x and it does nothing.  Is it hung?  I thought apple didn't hang.

Close iPhoto and do the following: make a temporary, backup copy (if you don't already have a backup copy) of the library and try the following:
1 - delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your
         User/Home()/Library/ Preferences folder.
2 - delete iPhoto's cache file, Cache.db, that is located in your
         User/Home()/Library/Caches/com.apple.iPhoto folder.
3 - launch iPhoto and try again.
NOTE: If you're moved your library from its default location in your Home/Pictures folder you will have to point iPhoto to its new location when you next open iPhoto by holding down the Option key when launching iPhoto.  You'll also have to reset the iPhoto's various preferences.

  • HT201341 Ever since I tried to update or install Yosemite---I can not access my iPhoto! It is stuck saying that it is in use with another application or has become unreadable.

I can't access iPhoto after Yosemite install/upgrade on my Mac. Upgrade appears to be complete. There are no other applications that need to be updated. I've disconnected my external My Passport for fear of pictures being lost in there. I think Yosemite is the first operating system that I upgraded to?

    Upgrade appears to be complete.
Do you mean, the iiPhoto application has been upgraded to iPhoto 9.6, or the iPhoto Library has already been upgraded to iPhoto 9.6 format?
I've disconnected my external My Passport for fear of pictures being lost in there.
Where is your iPhoto Library? On your My Passport or in the default location in your Pictures folder?
If the iPhoto library is on your external drive, then check the filesystem. iPhoto needs the iPhoto Library to be on a drive formatted MacOS Extended (Journaled). If the filesystem should be wrong, move your iPhoto Library to a drive with the correct filesystem.

  • Iphoto 9.6 is stuck.

MacPro with retina. iphoto 9.6 opens but little icon in center just spins. no pictures show up. nothing. can move through different options but again nothing shows kup and icon just keeps spinning. Have tried FORCE QUIT. Not luck

  • IPhoto seems to be stuck in an endless "updating photo" loop. How do I reset it? Turning it off and back on doesn't work. I have an iPad 2 running all updated software.

    Thanks!

    Hello Terrance,
Thank you for the details of the issue you are experiencing with the iPhoto app on your iPad.
I recommend reviewing the steps in the following tutorial (skip the steps for updating since you are up to date).  Before the step to remove the iPhoto app, be sure to make a backup of your iPad.

  • HT1338 Trying to update iPhoto '11, but its stuck on pause and has been since last night?

This is a new laptop and I"m lost. I tried to click on it to unpause it like on my iPhone. It goes with out saying that didn't work.

That's an App Store question. I'd ask on that forum.

  • Iphoto 9.4.2 constantly crashing on opening and after repair

    I am using a MacBook Pro 15" retina. OSX 10.8.2 iphoto 11 version 9.4.2
After uploading a batch of new photos, I pressed the info button for one of the photos and iphoto quit unexpectedly.
    I have tried the following:
    - repairing permission
    - repairing database
Immediately after however, iphoto is still crashing - and now won't open for more than a second or two.
I have also created a second iphoto library and that is working fine using iphoto.
I can also view/edit etc my iphoto library in Aperture..
Ideally I would like to merge my iphoto library with my Aperture library - but don't want to make matters worse by merging a dodgy library with a good one.  I would rather repair the iphoto library first if possible.
I have backed up both onto an external drive.
Any suggestions for next steps would be appreciated.
    Thanks

  • HT1338 iPhoto won't open. I have OS X maverick on my Mac & iPhoto version 9.5.1. Mac came back from repairs & now I can't open iPhoto

My mac was recently repaired as it wouldn't start properly.  got it back & now iPhoto won't open stating that it can't work with this version of OS X.  I have OS X 10.9.4 & iPhoto 9.5.1 which worked before & haven't been changed.

    It should work...

i recently had to have charge port replaced on ipad 1 and now we are stuck on itunes connection screen.  when connected to computer, it says need to enter passcode on ipad.  not getting lightning bolt or "not charging" on ipad screen.  port and cord are both funtional and working with other devices. have restarted both computer and ipad.  any thoughts?

Yes - that means that you have to restore the iPad. If it is asking for the passcode - enter it and restore the device. If you can't remember the passcode or don't know what it is, you probably have to use recovery mode to restore the device.

  • B8550 Printhead stuck - How do I get it repaired

I have a Photosmart B8550 which is out of warranty. It, itself is a replacement for the first one I had which went bad.
The printhead carraige is stuck on the right side, and I can't get it to move. It worked perfectly OK until this week.
I have tried every solution I can find on the HP site (and other sites found by web searches) and nothing works. They all end up as "service needed".
So I started searching for HP printer repair. I get to HP support and it looks up the warranty, and I can't get to chat or even send an email, or find a phone number to call (even if I was willing to pay). It basically sends me to this forum.
I have never been so frustrated by a manufacturer's website as I am with the HP Support site.
    So my questions are:
    1) Since other replies on this forum suggest that HP does not repair printers anymore (if I'm wrong, please let me know how to contact the right people) how can I get the internal cover off so I can see if there really is some paper or something stuck?
    2)  Is there an accessable latch somehere that didn't release, and is holding the cartridge carriage hostage?  Are there any other "secret" procedures like a super-duper master reset that resets all the solenoids, relays, etc. to their default state?
    3) Do you know of any third-parties who fix the B8550?
    Thanks for any help/ideas.

You are correct ... HP doesn't repair them. They'll offer you an "upgrade" but it costs more than the street price at many places.
I reluctantly went for the "upgrade" (actually a downgrade since I went from wide-format to letter-size) just so I could save my $100+ investment in the (relatively new) ink cartridges.
Once the new printer arrived, I used my Dremel tool to cut an access hole in the cover to get the cartidges out. After that, I tried to get the carriage to move. I don't know what is keeping the printhead from moving, but whatever it is, it was pretty well immovable. So the B8550 went to the e-recycle company and I have a full set of replacement ink.
Although the HP techs I finally spoke to were friendly and apologetic, it is really unfortunate that they are unable to effect a repair. One of the techs hinted that it would probably cost more than a new/refurb printer to do a repair.

Briansyddal - you might be able to manage your phone without a PC, but many of us can't, especially those of us with large iTunes libraries.  How do you propose I manage my 250GB of music using only a phone?  Maybe I could go out and buy 10 iPhones and spread my library out among them!
Catz537 - I have the same problem as you and I've spent hours on the web trying to find a solution to it.  It was a problem with iOS 7 and  8.1.1 doesn't fix it.  The the only advice from Apple is completely useless because it requires you, effectively, to delete and recreate your iTunes library and lose all your metadata, album art, notes etc and there's also no guarantee it will work.   I wish I could be more help (even more - I wish Apple could be more help) - I updated to 8.1.1 at 1400 today.  At 2200 I'm still "waiting for changes to be applied" for a measly 16GB of music transfer.

  • Stuck in Safe mode after Directory Repair.

I am not sure where to post this, so I'll try here.
I have an iMac G4 20" FP 2GB, running 10.4.11. I ran Disk Utility before installing new (non System) software as is my practice. An error called "invalid sibling link" was discovered. But repair was not possible with DU reporting "The underlying task reported failure on exit". I booted under Safe Mode and tried fsck, which also could not repair the problem. I ran DiskWarrior which rebuilt the directory. Since the new directory looked good, I saved it and reboot. Now the internal drive will ONLY boot into (what I think is) safe mode, giving me the sh-2.05b# prompt. If I type "exit" it shows the following:
/etc/master.passwd. no such file or directory
    -sh-2.05b#
If I type "reboot", it boots until it gets right back to the above
If I run fsck, I get no errors and an "OK". If I run DU boot from another drive, and verify the (internal) drive. I get "OK". I have repaired permissions. I tried resetting the master password using the system install disk. I tried resetting PRAM. No success. I have written to Alsoft and am awaiting a reply.
I can access/mount the internal drive if I boot from another disk, and the contents look normal.
Sounds rather complicated. My next step is to try an archive install, but perhaps I am missing something simple.
    Thanks.
