IPhoto 9 Facebook sync issues

Hi,
I was playing about in iPhoto when it started to automatically sync to my online Facebook albums. I hadn't made any changes in them, so there was no need for this to happen.
Once it started syncing I was unable to quit iPhoto until it had finished, but the process never completed despite being left over night. I was able to force quit the application, but that doesn't really resolve the issue as iPhoto wasn't really usable while the sync was being performed (probably a performance issue on my mac).
Anyone had this / have any ideas? It's version 9.1.3

Had the same thing happen again. A Work around seems to be to delete your Facebook account from iPhotos accounts list. You wont be able to upload directly to FB as a result, but in my case as soon as the never ending sync started iPhoto became practically unusable anyway, so it's not much of a loss.
You might need to stop airport initially to allow you to delete the FB account, as you can't do that while it's syncing either.

  • IPhoto and Facebook - Syncing issues with publication error

I am having trouble with the syncing function using the facebook icon at the bottom right of iPhoto '09. I create a facebook album with several photos, and it seems to take the appropriate time to upload the photos. But when I go to Facebook, there is only a few, if any photos in the album. It did create the album, however. I delete the album and repeat the same steps, and a different amount of photos would upload this time, but nowhere near the correct amount. Also when i try to sync the albums again, usually an error message comes up saying...
"An error occurred with the publication of album "(Album Name)." Do you want to remove the album from your library?
    And then in small print
"The feed could not be found or is invalid."
And then the option to remove or keep the album.
Why am I having syncing problems?
For now I am using the Export function and a facebook plugin which works fine, but I want the ability to add photos to libraries and sync rather than using the export function.

Same problems here, multiple albums. It will upload a couple photos, then say it can't find the album.
(then Keep or Remove Album blah blah, because that's a good feature. oh wait, we couldn't find your photos, so we'll just throw em all out, cool?)

  • Iphoto dropbox sync issues

Some photos from iPhoto on my mac book pro are not syncing to dropbox when I do an export from the dropbox app! Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong? Also I am thinking this new functionalityis not a proper sync but rather needs me to manually export every time? I really don't know where to go from here - I like iphoto but right now I'm on the brink of throwing in the towel and going back to some other sort of view instead! Please help

I see the Dropbox feature now.  Can you identify any of the photos that won't import?  If so double click on them in iPhoto and make sure you can view the full sized image.
On the chance it might be a permissions issue or damaged dataabse try the following:
1 - launch iPhoto with the Command+Option keys held down and rebuild the library.
2 - Run  Option #1, Repair permissions  followed by Option #4, Rebuild Database, if necessary.

  • IPhoto/Facebook export issues

My iPhoto is not exporting to Facebook properly. Either it simply does nothing after I click on the appropriate buttons (when it used to say " X photos upload to your Facebook Album", or it crashes and closes or it uploads the incorrect photos. I have never had trouble before. I have sent a report to Apple with every crash, and even added comments. I searched online and found no help.  One time, I got an error message about rebuilding iPhoto, which I have done. I have also  backed up my iPhoto to my external hard drive. Can anyone tell me anything else that I can try? Please note, I am not tech savvy. I buy Apple products because they are easy for me to use and have never owned a PC ( Apple since the iic, but still, it is all Greek to me.)  I can follow simple instructions, but am no "Genius".  Thank you!

Not if you export them via the File ➙ Export ➙ File Export menu with these two checkboxes checked
and (if you want the file names to reflect what you changed the Title to)
That will embed the metadata into the image file and, if FB can read the IPTC fields in the image file, will be displayed in FB (I don't use FB so don't know if it does read the iPTC metadata of image files).

  • Iphoto album synced issue...

Has anyone noticed once you sync an iphoto album and open pictures, then while your on the "photo albums" screen and press the home button and the app closes there is a white pixel that stalls for a second in the middle of the third row of apps?
    I know I'm nitpicking...maybe I'll send some feedback...

it only happens via photos app, none of the others, its like the gui is messed up for the closing of this app...I submitted a bug, but it is a very small detail...

  • IPhoto 9.4.1 does not solve all sync issues

The 9.4.1 update does not solve all the sync issues.
It may have fixed the duplicate Events that you can see in iTunes when syncing to an iDevice, but it has not resolved the duplicate Faces.
I still have many duplicate Faces showing, even though in iPhoto the Faces are only there once.......

    Try the following:
1 - open the library package with the Finder as follows:
2  - Find the AlbumData.xml file and move it to the Desktop.
3 - close the package and launch iPhoto.
See if the above will get rid of the bogus events.

  • IPhoto '09 in 10.6.4 - Serious Sync Issues

We're currently in the process of upgrading ~200 people from 10.5.8 MacBooks to 10.6.4 MacBook Pros by simply using HomeSync to create a portable home on the new MacBook Pros from their home folders on Snow Leopard Servers. We've seen all the usual annoying sync issues already and can generally remedy all of these problems, but upgrading the users from iPhoto '08 to '09 tends to be the absolute worst. the sync process reaches the iPhoto library and returns the error "you should contact your network adminsitrator." No matter what we do, it won't seem to sync correctly. Not to mention it is as slow as heck.
Console proves to be little use - the one thing I did notice is that HomeSync seems to think that the files are in use.
One last thing I noticed is that it did work one time, and it appears that it was after the Faces feature was complete in its initial run (after all faces had been detected).
    Anyone else notice anything similar?

Not much hope. I subscribe to a mailing list that is very occasionally visited by an Apple engineer...here's a note about PHD's and iPhoto:
    Gang,
    Sorry for the late response....
The consensus was to use PHD's to sync only Documents and Desktop in most cases. It does not meet the "rapid return to service" criteria; but unless you deploy something like Code42's CrashPlan, you won't get there.
iPhoto is still broken - and we know it. Sorry.
iMovie projects should now save nicely with 10.6.4.
Still moving really slow.... but catching up.

  • Iphoto 11 Problems with Facebook-sync ?

    Hi there from Austria,
a few months ago i installed Iphoto 11 and soon after that problems with my machine (Macbook alu, 13,3 late 2008, 2 Ghz C2D) arose.
Iphoto became very slow, also overall performance on my machine degraded. For example browsing the "programs"-folder resulted in spinning ball of death which lasted around 10 seconds...
I couldn't find out what went wrong, after reading some forums about Iphoto 11 I decided to apply some tips
    1) set thumbnail size in all albums to predefined size "3"
    2) i removed ALL facebook-synced albums from Iphoto11
After those steps Iphoto runs a lot faster and the "programs"-folder behaves like it should.
Anyone with a similar experience ? Anyone could explain what happened there ?
    Regards
    Uli

Suggests the main library is damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • ITunes, iPhoto & Aperture - odd sync issue

    Hi all,
I am a user of both iPhoto & Aperture, with unified photo library, and occasionally sync one or more events to my iPhone (rather than syncing all photos automatically).
I've noticed recently a rather odd issue, where iTunes does not seem to be "seeing" my iPhoto library. If I set Aperture to the source, then all my events/projects show up correctly. If I choose iPhoto as the source, 0 photos .
Opening the library directly in either iPhoto or Aperture works just fine - all events and photos present and correct - so the issue appears to be around the link from iPhoto to iTunes - weirdly, given the unified library, Aperture to iTunes seems to be fine.
Whilst I _could_ just sync to Aperture, a) the error bugs me , and I'd like to sort it out, and b) iPhoto is a better manager of events (chronological order etc) so I would prefer to use iPhoto to sync to iPhone, iPad etc.
I'm running Mountain Lion and both Photo apps are up to date. Hopefully some kind soul can assist!?

    Hey Aljrob_UK
Thanks for the question. It sounds like there may be a permissions issue with your iPhoto library, let's see if repairing this will help to resolve the issue. See the additional information section of the following article:
Important: Please backup your library first (http://support.apple.com/kb/PH2504)
iPhoto 6 and later: Rebuilding the iPhoto library
    http://support.apple.com/kb/HT2638
    Additional Information
iPhoto 9.3 and later introduces a new Library First Aid dialog in place of the previous rebuild options.
If Repair Permissions does not resolve your issue, attempt Repair Database and/after Rebuild Database. You can skip the Rebuild Thumbnails.
    Thanks,
    Matt M.

  • Tagging iPhoto - Facebook

    Hi,
I'm using iPhoto '11 to manage my pictures and I like a lot the "Faces" tool to tag people and find all the photos related to them in one click.
I've shared several albums to Facebook hoping that the tagging was maintained and consistent.
Unfotunally my tags appear on Facebook but without the links to my friends profiles.
Searching in this community I've found similar issues related to iPhoto '09 so I've tried to edit one face adding the corresponding email that my friend has in his profile; this way I've created the tag I wanted (with the link to my friend's profile) but it has been added to the previous one (with no link).
Is there an easy way to fix this inconsistence and remove the duplicates?
I have ~ 500 photos on FB and removing by hand all the duplicates would take a lot of time.
When iPhoto finds a new face and I edit the label, some of the suggestions in the list that appear have the FB logo on their right; this is not true for all of them. Should this help?
Last question: is there any way to remove all the tags to faces in iPhoto (and sync this action with FB)? I could retag all the found faces from scratch adding the email that FB needs ... this way all the new tags should work.
Thanks in advance for any comment/suggestion!
    Bye...

iPhoto and face book interface on the basis of the users facebook e-mail address - in the faces window select a face and click on the info button (or i in the lower right hand corner depending on the version you have) and enter their facebook e-mail address - that will connect them in iPhoto to Facebook

  • Facebook sync NIGHTMARES!!!!

I have recently discovered iphoto's capability of syncing with facebook. (or should i say incapabilities, lol)
I have 2 major issues with Faces/Tags and Syncing in general.
    Faces/Tag Issue:
I have used the Facebook App on my iphone to sync my Friends with my Contacts( which is synced with the contacts on my computer). I have spent time to add Faces to a majority of my photos in iphone, however they are not translated to Facebook tags. The Names of people on the tags are correct, they are just not linked to their facebook name. This is weird since Facebook has already synced with my contacts on my iphone (adding the images and facebook page addresses to my contacts).
    Syncing Issue:
Anytime I try to edit or add new photos to the facebook albums, it doesn't sync to facebook. It either freezes during the sync, or it finishes but doesn't actually add photos to facebook. I will also have to Force quit iPhoto anytime this happens. At rare occurrences, iPhoto will sync to facebook to add the new photos, but it loses all of my facebook tags (even if the photos had 'Faces" marked from iPhoto)
I have tried deleting the preference files on these, but still having the issue. How can i fix this?

The iPhoto/Facebook name link is via the person's facebook e-mail address not their name - make sure that each one you want to show in Facebook has their facebook e-mail address included (faces page clic on the "i" and turn the entry over and check/enter their identification info

  • IPhoto not syncing right with MobileMe

I just created a couple of new photo albums in iPhoto '09 that I want to share with my friends via my MobileMe gallery. I've done this many times without a hitch, so I'm pretty sure I know what I'm doing. But this time I have a problem, that might be related to the upgrade from '08 to '09. After the albums finished uploading, I checked to make sure everything looked okay in the Gallery and all was well. But when I went back into iPhoto and clicked on one of new albums in the MOBILEME GALLERY portion of the source bar, iPhoto shows me in the Information panel that the album has no items. I no longer see my photos in the main panel on the right and there's no wireless icon next to the album name like all the other albums have (the ones successfully appearing in my gallery). But when I look at my MobileMe Gallery, all my photos are there as expected.
But now I can't update the titles on the photos within iPhoto. It's as if the connection between the Album and the MobileMe Gallery has been lost for just these two new libraries.
Any ideas on how to fix this?
(BTW, I'm also having sync issues with my iPhone again too - all my contacts appear twice in my iPhone...)

    HI...
Just so you are not aware ...
    What's happening to MobileMe?
The core services provided by MobileMe have been completely rewritten and are now part of iCloud. MobileMe will no longer be available after June 30, 2012. To continue to have mail, contacts, and calendars kept up to date automatically and free of charge, and to enjoy the new services that iCloud provides, MobileMe members must move their accounts to iCloud before June 30, 2012. Apple allowss for 5GB of free storage space.
Since you have v10.7.4, you can setup iCloud anytime to sync your Mac and iOS based devices.
Apple - iCloud - Learn how to set up iCloud on all your devices
Once you setup your iCloud account, you can access the settings from System Preferences > iCloud

  • IPhoto/Facebook/Aperture Query

    Hey guys,
I know that iPhoto is supposed to two-way sync with Facebook and I'm not going to complain about it (unlike all the other iPhoto-Facebook support threads I've just read through). My question is slightly different...
I switched over all my libraries to Aperture, for the increased organization, features, etc etc. I love it. I even like the third-party Facebook exporter plugin that Aperture supports.
But I still have a few albums on iPhoto that are synched with Facebook. They have comments and tags and such so I don't want to remove them from my account or reupload them, but these photos are also taking up about a gigabyte of harddrive space in the iPhoto library (not to mention being duplicated in the Aperture library).
So, what I am wondering is if there is someway to leave those photos untouched on Facebook, and cause iPhoto to forget about them? I want to keep iPhoto around, because I do like some of its image editing tools, but I won't be keeping any of my master images there nor will I upload any more photos from iPhoto to facebook.
Regarding other threads, I've come up with a few ideas of making this work. If someone could please let me know if any of these sound correct, I'd really appreciate it.
    1) Just delete the iPhoto library file. Upon launching iPhoto next, it will create a new library file and should not have any ties with my facebook account? This would allow those albums to stay online but remove them from my HDD? (unlock the facebook album info is stored in a preference file somewhere and deleting the library doesn't affect it?)
    2) I've heard that I could create a new, empty album on facebook and move all the photos from the old albums into that one... which keeps all the tags/comments/etc. I think this would also make the old photos seem new though, so I don't really want to go this route, if it can be avoided.
So, I guess what I am really wondering is: would option 1 work, in my case? I guess I could also set-up a little snitch rule to prevent iPhoto from connecting to Facebook... What do you guys think is the easiest solution?
    Cheers

That worked! The facebook album was still in the sidebar, so to be careful, I denied all outgoing connections with little snitch when i deleted it, since it was still giving me the "delete this and it will unpublish message".
Between removing the Facebook account and Little Snitch, iPhoto is now separated from my Facebook and all the albums are still there!
    Thanks for the help!

  • IPhoto / Facebook question ?

    Hi,
I've had some problems with my iPhoto library over the past week and at one point i feared I would lose the whole library. I've changed a few things and it seems to be ok. Another thing I would like to change is the Facebook sync. Its very annoying because it just decides to sync random pictures every now and then and on one occasion is synced all of my facebook albums to my Events so I had a whole bunch of new events all with one picture each in it. My question is, can I go into iPhoto settings and delete my facebook account ussing the little minus button or would that delete all of my photos from Facebook that I have uploaded or once they are uploaded to facebook, are they stored on the facebook servers as well as my laptop?
If its not ok to delete it, how can I choose when iPhoto chooses to sync with Facebook as i'm hacing trouble finding that setting.
I am currently using version 9.4.2.
    Thanks,
    Matt

Deleting the account in the Preferences won't make any changes on FaceBook.

  • Can someone from Apple confirm sync issue.....

    Q. Can someone from Apple please confirm that they are aware of some sync issues that is causing itunes 9.2.0.61 to crash???
    Q. Can we expect a new version of Itunes any time soon?
I have iTunes running on a windows 7 machine & two ipod touches (Both 3G running the power draining IOS4). My ipod touch Sync's OK however my partner (who uses the same computer and software) has Itunes 'stop & quit' when trying to sync her music. The program quits out at the same point when it reaches the same music track. I did start removing the tracks that has the problem but it was getting to the point that I was removing a lot of stuff - stuff that plays OK in the iTunes software and previously sync'ed OK with the old software.
The most annoying thing is that Apple (as far as I have seen) isn’t even acknowledging any kind of problem. The same could be said of the ridiculous battery consumption under IOS4.

Everyone who logs into this support website does so with their Apple I.D, so why the he'll does this forum even exist if Apple have no technical input or can't be bothered to confirm or deny that they are aware of a problem. It's lazy and poor customer support....
Well, Apple's affiliated with it because it's their site, and about their products. That doesn't necessarily mean that they have to be a part of User Discussions. (after all, at least they aren't false advertising right?)
I mean think about it, Facebook is affiliated with your Facebook profile right? Does that mean that the Facebook owners are going to meddle with your personal affairs? Probably not.
I wouldn't consider these forums as CUSTOMER support, more as PEER support. Apple provides customer support other ways, by FAQs, Apple Stores, and Contacting Them. I'm not saying one way whether Apple is good or bad with this, I am simply stating they offer other customer support options.
