IPhoto running problems

I lost the capability of opening my photo's and uploading photos from my iPhone. Not sure what happened. Either way, I eventually deleted my 6.06 version and upgraded to iPhoto 08. But still the same problem. It brings up the main screen, but searches for photos...never finding them. Keep in mind, I cannot upload pics from my iphone either. I deleting com.apple.iphoto.plist and even changed user info, but still the same thing. Aslo tried the apple/option buttons to no luck. Should I be reinstalling my recovery disks that came with my comp? Im willing to, but dont have a way to back up my files, and am worried they will disappear. Any help would greatly be appriciated! Thanks

Boot into Safe Mode and see if you can get iPhoto to open. If it does then there's something amiss with your account. If it still doesn't open a reinstall of iPhoto seems warranted.

  • IPHOTO sharing problems.......

I just cannot get a handle of the rules, requirements etc. of connecting to my iMac iPhoto Library from my macbook pro.
connect as....   should I use this or not
does the referenced computer need Iphoto running or not
I am constantly having to restart the laptop because once you try to connect to a different library and fail you can only quit the app.  And if you restart it goes to the same thing.
Very frustrating and not intuitive in the least.....
I'd love someone to give me a procedure that actually works EVERY time when trying to access a library on another pc

With the amount of information you've provided it's impossible to offer a potential solution.  We can't see your computer so we need to know the details of your problem and setup, i.e.:
what version of iPhoto are you using?
what system version are you running?
what do you see, ie. any message, when iPhoto trys to launch?
    what fixes have you tried?
    where is your library located?
did you apply any updates or upgrades just prior to the problem occurring?
are you running a "managed" or "referenced" library?
how much free space on your boot drive?
If iPhoto freezes you can force quit the app by going the the  menu and selecting Force Quit menu option.

  • Iphoto 11 Problems with Facebook-sync ?

    Hi there from Austria,
a few months ago i installed Iphoto 11 and soon after that problems with my machine (Macbook alu, 13,3 late 2008, 2 Ghz C2D) arose.
Iphoto became very slow, also overall performance on my machine degraded. For example browsing the "programs"-folder resulted in spinning ball of death which lasted around 10 seconds...
I couldn't find out what went wrong, after reading some forums about Iphoto 11 I decided to apply some tips
    1) set thumbnail size in all albums to predefined size "3"
    2) i removed ALL facebook-synced albums from Iphoto11
After those steps Iphoto runs a lot faster and the "programs"-folder behaves like it should.
Anyone with a similar experience ? Anyone could explain what happened there ?
    Regards
    Uli

Suggests the main library is damaged.
    Option 1
Back Up and try rebuild the library: hold down the command and option (or alt) keys while launching iPhoto. Use the resulting dialogue to rebuild. Choose to Rebuild iPhoto Library Database from automatic backup.
    If that fails:
    Option 2
Download iPhoto Library Manager and use its rebuild function. This will create a new library based on data in the albumdata.xml file. Not everything will be brought over - no slideshows, books or calendars, for instance - but it should get all your albums and keywords, faces and places back.
Because this process creates an entirely new library and leaves your old one untouched, it is non-destructive, and if you're not happy with the results you can simply return to your old one.

  • Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2 try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

Hard Drive warning when upgrading to Mountain Lion. 2nd try and I was able to upgrade. Software update for IPhoto, had problems restarting. Do I need my hard drive checked

    Yes.
Choose Apple menu > Restart. Hold down the Command (⌘) and R keys as your computer restarts.
When you see a white screen with an Apple logo in the middle, you can release the keys.
Click Disk Utility, and then click Continue.
In the list at the left, select the item you want to repair. (Be sure to select an item that’s indented to the right in the list, not an item at the far left.)
    Click First Aid.
If Disk Utility tells you the disk is about to fail, back it up and replace it. You can’t repair it.
    Click Repair Disk.
If Disk Utility reports that the disk appears to be OK or has been repaired, you’re done.
Otherwise, you may need to do one of the following steps.
If Disk Utility can’t repair your disk or it reports “The underlying task reported failure,” try to repair the disk or partition again. If that doesn’t work, back up as much of your data as possible, reformat the disk, reinstall Mac OS X, and then restore your backed-up data.
If you continue to have problems with your disk, it may be physically damaged and need to be replaced

  • Aperture and iPhoto Running Slow Since Upgrading to Yosemite

IPhoto and Aperture is now running so slow it is nearly unusable.  It has an especially slow startup.  It was running just fine at first.  I had imported some Canon 5D (original) RAW files, and it has been grinding ever since.  I have tried deleting OS preferences and creating a new library.  Neither suggestion helped the situation.  This happened just a couple of days after the Yosemite update.  I have added all of the latest patches.  I am running it on a very recent MacBook pro.
I rely on this software heavily, so if it is not fixed soon, I will have to switch to Lightroom.
    Thanks,
    Chris

As kq6up mentioned you should try to repair your iPhoto/Aperture library. You can do this by holding down the option-key and the command-key simultaneously as you are launching iPhoto/Aperture. You will get some options to try out.
If that doesn't help, I would recommend using iPhoto Library Manager from Fat Cat Software that looks for duplicates and old thumbnails from previous versions of iPhoto. It should be able to fix Aperture libraries as well. I managed to clean up nearly 40 GB off from my 110 GB library using it and with prog99 tip iPhoto runs blazingly fast again.

  • For CF Server 9 developer win 64bit has the same running problems like 32bit, or more

    CFWACK8 reader:
Better install CF Server stand alone - so no need  Apache? For CF Server 9 developer windows 64bit has the same running  problems like 32bit, or more?
I have installed  http://www.apachefriends.org/en/xampp-windows.html ..WAMPP, well Mysql  may used by this CF Server 9 developer, although book use Apache Derby  embedded to cf server?
CFEclipse plugin may installed either in my (separate) Flash Builder 4 or Eclipse Helios, or only to latter?

CF 9 64-bit will generally be your best choice on a 64-bit platform, unless you specifically require something that's not available in 64-bit, like COM.
For development, the built-in web server is fine. But if you want to learn how to manage a web server, it's good to install Apache and configure CF to use that.
You may use any SQL engine for which there are JDBC drivers, including MySQL. Apache Derby is used for demos, etc, because it's bundled with CF. You don't want to use it for real projects, though.
You can install CF Builder in any modern Eclipse, including Helios or Flash Builder. This is largely a matter of personal preference. I've encountered some features that don't work properly unless you let CF Builder install its own bundled Eclipse, but these are features that I don't use much anyway.

Applet running problem in ie 6.0 under Windows XP
I have a PC running Iternet Explorer 6.0 running under Windows XP. I have developed an applet using JDK 1.3 which is running fine with applet viewer , but it is not running in ie. I have installed Netscape navigator and Opera 5. the applet is running fine in both of these browsers but somehow it is not running in IE.
Later on I upgraded my JDK to 1.4. It also displays use Java2 (V1.4.1) for <applet> (requires restart) tck marked in Advance section under Tools-Options menu of IE.
I have also tried and set various options in my Control Panels Java Plug-in but all in vain. I have searched the sites for this solution but no one answers specifically.
I know its a small problem due to discarded JVM in IE under Windows XP but give me solution for that.
    Thanks in Advance

Ipad3, using iPhoto, running the latest IOS6, I'm a photographer, please tell me why has the delete (X) been removed in iPhoto?

Ralph, again thanks for the input, but I respectfully disagree.  I have been using iPhoto with the iPad3 since it was launched.  I have taken and imported at a minimum 6-7k pictures and have used the same methodology of editing and deleting photos (inside of iPhoto app), using the delete (X) on the task bar.  I'm an IT project manager as well as an certified software consultant, in other words, I have a better than average knowledge and understanding of apps and the functionality.  My only point is that something that was quite functional and very user friendly has now become far more difficult. It was only 9 bucks and a pretty good little piece of software, I'll just find something else that is less time consuming and will check back for iPhoto update and from time to time.  Again, thank you for your feedback.

  • Iphoto slow problem - photos are organised in folders not film rolls

I'm suffering from the iphoto slow problem and have been trying to find a way to stop iphoto from loading all the photos every time.
My photos are arranged in folders, so I don't seem to have the option to stop the photos being loaded by film roll.
Does anyone have any other ideas ?

I'm not sure what that means. Whether you have albums or not, iPhoto still considers a single import batch as a roll. If the rolls are not collapsed, then everytime you launch iPhoto, it assumes you want to be able to see your entire library, and it goes about the job of making all the thumbnails available.

  • IPhoto 11 problems, crash, libr manager

iPhoto 11 (9.2) Lion 10.7.3, iPhoto Library Manager, duplicate annhilator, thumbnail annihilator
    27 inch, Mid2011, 2.7 Ghz Intel Core i5, 4 GB mem 1333 MHz DDR3.
When my Mac G5 tower hd crashed in December, it did a terrible thing to my photos. I was using iPhoto Buddy, a 3rd party ap, to separate the photos into different categories so I could find what I needed quickly. Apple store could not repair the tower.  I bought a new iMac 27 inch in January and an external 2 terabyte HD to hold the photos as well as backing them up on Time machine. After the crash the Apple store transferred the files to my new computer. However, something caused the photos to multiply like rabbits and they did not stay in the library where I had placed them but moved to other libraries. It is now three months and I am still trying to get them organized again.
At suggestions in the apple support forum, I purchased iPhoto Library Manager, duplicate Annhilator and Duplicate Thumbnail annihilator.  They don't work very well, but better than nothing. It is a little overwhelming. Here's the procedure I am following. Open iPhoto library (for instance, 2007 photos). I go through the events first and get them back in order  (clip art, family files, tombstones, travel, flowers, wildlife, holidays, etc) Until I am worn out I use info to compare the duplicates and try to delete the ones under 50 kb, and saving the ones with more pixels - but they are scattered all over the place. Once the events are in order, I run Dup Annhilator which might find 2-3,000 dups placed in the trash. (the program says marking the dups is safer, but I tried marking them once so I could compare but could not FIND where the program had placed the dups). Anyway, once they are in the trash I have two more problems I need help with.
    1.  I cannot get the "info" column to work on trashed pics so I can compare size and be sure only the smaller versions are to be deleted.
    2. When I want to restore an irreplaceable photo I don't take a chance of deleting since I don't know the size, I drag it up to the events -- but then cannot find it again.
    3.  Also, the program crashes often whiile I am trying to re-organize, but I dont' understand the crash report.
Please help! Where is Old Toad when I need him?

    Your welcome.
What would have caused the mulitple libraries to import to each other if not iPhoto 11?
Human error, at a guess. There is no way for iPhoto to import anything without some form of instruction from somewhere. Consider your own description:
After the crash the Apple store transferred the files to my new computer. However, something caused the photos to multiply like rabbits and they did not stay in the library where I had placed them but moved to other libraries.
The multiplying photos is a sure sign of one Library being imported to another.  When someone does this every version and thumbnail is imported like a distinct photo, you lose all your Albums, Keywords etc., the link between Original and Previews is destroyed, the non-destructive editing feature is ruined and so on. In summary: it's mess.
Also, it would account for how photos have apparently moved from one Library to another - something else that can't be done without human intervention.
If you have back ups then trash these messed up libraries and restore your back ups.
Yes I am familiar with the apps you mention.

  • IPhoto editing problems

I'm have an iPhoto problem. I'm currently in version5.0.4 (263). In
edit mode when I try to bring up a photo with a date before October
2005 I get the spinning gear wheel and the image never loads. The
thumb nail is at the top of the page but the large, editable
picture doesn't load. There are only a very few photos pre-10/05
that will load. (All photos after that date seem to work fine.)
I went to the iPhoto library to check out those photos and find
that the information is available for the photo but under "Size" it
says "Zero KB on disk". However, on the iPhoto information window (lower left) the same photo's size is 1.5MB.
I tried opening some photos is Preview and Photoshop. In Preview I
get a blank screen. In Photoshop I get this message: "Could not complete your request because a JPEG marker segment lenth is too short (the file may be truncated or incomplete)."
So, it seems like the thumbnail is still intact but the main file
is gone. Fortunately, I have all my photos backed up. But if I'm
going to use iPhoto (which I would like to do) I need to solve the
problem. I figure either there is problem with the software, or I
did something wrong in handling the photos.
In regards to the second, the only thing I can think of that might
effect the library is when I backed up. At this point I don't
remember the procedure I followed. But, if I dragged the folders
from the library to an external hard drive without making a copy,
would that remove the original information from the iPhoto library?
Any help on this will be appreciated.
iMac PowerPC G4/1GHz/768 MB   Mac OS X (10.4.6)

Welcome to the Apple Discussions. Try the standard fix: delete the iPhoto preference file, com.apple.iPhoto.plist, that resides in your User/Library/Preferences folder, launch iPhoto and try again.
TIP: For insurance against the iPhoto database corruption that many users have experienced I recommend making a backup copy of the Library6.iPhoto (iPhoto.Library for iPhoto 5 and earlier) database file and keep it current. If problems crop up where iPhoto suddenly can't see any photos or thinks there are no photos in the library, replacing the working Library6.iPhoto file with the backup will often get the library back. By keeping it current I mean backup after each import and/or any serious editing or work on books, slideshows, calendars, cards, etc. That insures that if a problem pops up and you do need to replace the database file, you'll retain all those efforts. It doesn't take long to make the backup and it's good insurance.
I've created an Automator workflow application (requires Tiger or later), iPhoto dB File Backup, that will copy the selected Library6.iPhoto file from your iPhoto Library folder to the Pictures folder, replacing any previous version of it. It's compatible with iPhoto 6 and 7 libraries and Tiger and Leopard. Just put the application in the Dock and click on it whenever you want to backup the dB file. iPhoto does not have to be closed to run the application, just idle. You can download it at Toad's Cellar. Be sure to read the Read Me pdf file.
Note: There's now an Automator backup application for iPhoto 5 that will work with Tiger or Leopard.

  • Upgrade to iPhoto 6 Problem

I've just upgraded from iPhoto4 to iPhoto6 and when I try to open my library I get the following message.
"Unable to upgrade this photo library because current user does not have access. If possible, repair permissions for iPhoto Library folder and try again."
I repaired the permissions and I still have the problem.
I also upgraded iMovie from 4 to 6 and I have no problem opening movies I have created in iMovie4. Prior to upgrading I saved iPhoto4 and the library to my external hard drive and it iPhoto4 opens fine from my HD.
Does anyone have a solution to my problem with iPhoto6? Thanks.

If you are uncomfortable using the Terminal try the following: download and run BatChmod on the iPhoto Library folder with the settings shown here, substituting your account name for mine. You can either type in the path to the folder or just drag the folder into that field.

  • IPhoto running extremely slow

I am a new Mac user, bought my first Mac computer, with Tiger and iLife installed. PowerBook 17" G4 100GB HD and 1GB ram. Everything is running good except iPhoto. Every time if I do anything related to iPhoto the computer become extremely slow. I have to wait around 1 to 3 minutes after each action. I want to know if there is any solution to it. Is it hardware problem or iPhoto problem? Or simply just because iPhoto couldn't handle large amount of photos... because I do using iPhoto to manage over 11000 of my photos about 40 GB space...

    Hi FAcundo,
    Basically the info is here:
I have a 3,000 image library at 3 gigs in size.
I use a Canon camera which does not make larger Makernotes in the EXIF data.
If you want to find out more about the large Makernote problem, visit this site
    Apple Macintosh iPhoto 5 slowness
If you do have one of the cameras that have large Makernote files you may wnat to try (iPhoto) Exif Cleaner
-Will more memory help speed iPhoto up. It sure will and many have noted that it has.
-There are steps you can take to speed up scrolling in the iPhoto Library.
       do not use shadows
       do not use outlines
       use white for background
view by rolls and keep the rolls closed
when viewing images keep them around 5 or less across in the rows
choose not to "show photo count for albums"
If you have thousands of images it is also advisable to make multiple libraries. Smaller libraries will load and work faster. Use the Option key when launching iPhoto to create and switch between libraries.
You can also use iPhoto Library Manager or iPhoto Buddy to manage your libraries.
    iPhoto Library Manager
    iPhoto Library Manager documentation
this page will show you everything you can do with iPhoto Library Manager.
You can also try iPhoto Buddy
You should have a t 15% free space on your hard drive. Things get slow after that.
As an update...iPhoto 6 seems to have resolved this problem for those people who had the Makernote problem.
