IPOD makes any itunes software FREEZE!!!

Hi
I'm opening a thread for this problem because I posted it on someone else's and it was overlooked. I plugged in my ipod to a friends computer after updating her itunes software. i was afraid that her itunes would sync with my ipod (i dont know why) and then itunes seemed froze so I ended its process with the task manager. After that I didn-t turn itunes on again and I transferred music from my ipod to her computer using Ephod (or some like that)
THe next day everytime i plugged my ipod and turned itunes on the sw would freeze. the same ting happens in every computer i plug my ipod to.
also, when i go to videos, i see a list of all the songs i have in my ipod. when I finally can locate a video file it will only play the sound... but not the video.
i have tried reinstalling itunes. i still havent tried restoring my ipod, but as i dont have a big drive to put store all my files i was wondering if there was something else i could do
your help will be very much appreciated
thanks
MARCELO

Welcome to Apple Discussions!
Alright, for the video problem, you need to make sure that TV out is off. Go to Videos-->Video Settings-->TV Out-->Off. Now see if your videos play correctly. See here...

Now, for the larger issue...
I'm not sure why the iPod would be freezing iTunes on multiple computers. I would recommend putting the iPod into Disk Mode and then restoring it. A restore will not delete music on your computer, only music on your iPod. And, as a reminder, it is generally illegal for you to give copyrighted music off of your iPod to someone else or vice versa.
Disk Mode first...

And then connect it to the computer and restore...

  • How can I reformat my ipod 20gb when itunes/laptop freezes

    Hi there
Last year my ipod did exactly the same thing but I was talked through how to solve the issue by a guy in support. Now they want to charge me £25 for their help, even though I was out of warranty last year!
This is what's happening. My ipod has started to show the folder icon with an exclamation mark. It's a bit sporadic (sometimes it shows, sometimes it doesn't) and will then show the menu selection. When I choose to play an album, it thinks about it for a while, makes a lot of clicking noises and then may play, or may exit back out to the main menu.
When I try to connect my ipod to itunes, it freezes itunes, so I am unable to reformat (this is what fixed it last time). How, therefore, do I reformat my ipod when itunes, or windows explorer etc freezes when the ipod is connected to my laptop? I don't believe this is a Vista issue as I was using Windows XP last time my ipod cocked up. Any ideas how I can get my ipod reformatted?
    Thanks in advance.

Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.

If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    To restore from backup see:

If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.

  • IPod Classic causes iTunes to freeze

Recently iTunes has frozen every time I connect my iPod classic, it shows 'not responding' in the task manager and refuses to respond until I unplug my ipod, once I've done that a message comes up saying itunes has stopped responding and windows is looking for a solution. The ipod doesn't make it as far as being recognised by itunes, but it is by my computer, as when it is connected I am asked if I want to scan and fix.
I have Googled various solutions and eventually I have managed to format the ipod, then when I connected it to itunes it said it had detected a corruped ipod and I followed the steps to restore to factory settings which went ahead fine. However, now that my ipod is wiped of everything and I'd like to sync to put my songs etc back on there I am encountering the same problem where itunes just freezes as soon as it's plugged in.
Has anyone got any advice? I know that it is a problem with this specific iPod and not iTunes or the computer because everyone in the household has an iPod and they are all working fine.

It could be an indication or a damaged or dying hard drive.  I would recommend doing a disk diagnostic on the iPod's HD using the instructions given by turingtest2 in this older thread.  He also covers what the resulting numbers indicate.

If necessary, post the resultings numbers and we can verify what the next steps to take.

  • Trying to connect ipod touch to iTunes software icon just spinning

Recently I had to rebuild my music list in iTunes on my PC, during this time I performed upgrades to the iTunes app and my devices which seemed to go ok.  Today I plug in my iPod to delete the music that currently on the iPod and replace it with the rebuilt library and nothing happens other than the gray circle continually spins next to where it says Operator's iPod.  At first I thought it my be the amount of information that's being synched between iTunes and the iPod but I walked away for about 3 hours and it was still just sitting there.  When I click on Operator's iPad nothing happens.  Rebooting the PC, the iPod, starting from scratch has yielded the same results.  Any suggestions?

This has been resolved by re-installing the iTunes software.  What a PITA!  Every time Apple updates it's software or OS I hold my breath, cross my fingers and squint my eyes.  Will it work this time?  What a crock.

  • Hooking up old ipod to new itunes software

Since I have a new computer and don't have access to my old itunes folder, I will be downloading itunes software from the website starting from anew etc.  I have an ipod classic with all my music library and pictures.  My quiestion is, how do I hook up my ipod to the new software without losing my total library of everything?

See this older post from another forum member Zevoneer covering different ways to copy music from your iPod to your PC.

  • 160gb iPod Classic causes iTunes to freeze/crash

I have a 160gb iPod Classic and when plugged in the USB, it causes my iTunes to crash. My computer recognizes the iPod when plugged in but iTunes does not recognize the iPod and immediately freezes until I force shut down iTunes.  I have an updated version of iTunes, running it on Windows 7.  The iPod works when I am listening to it; however, there seems to be lagging and slower than normal controls compared to when I first purchased the iPod.  I have an iPod Nano that works while I plug it in the computer and iTunes does not crash.  iTunes also works normally when there is no iPod plugged in as well.

Having essentially the exact same problem. I have an iPod Classic 160GB but everytime I connect it to my laptop, iTunes freezes and I have to close it through Task Manager. I'm running Windows 7 Home Premium 64bit on an Acer Aspire 5551 with an AMD Athlon II P320 Dual-Core Processor.
The iPod plays music fine, although it is a little slower and less responsive than when I first had it (no track skips, just browsing menus). iTunes recognises my 8GB iTouch and remains responsive with that but for some reason it freezes when the Classic is connected. The Classic appears in My Computer but doesn't appear to be recognised by iTunes. As far as I'm aware my iTunes is up to date and it runs fine when nothing, or even my iTouch, is connected.
Any help would be greatly appreciated.

  • Unable to install any itunes software

Can anyone help? I have bought an Ipod shuffle for my wife but we cannot install any version of itunes on our laptop: windows 2000 professional We have shut down the AVG virus checker but when itunes is installed it states that itunes and quicktime is installing and then does nothing. The only version that installs is itunes 4 but it tells me it needs itunes 5 or later to work the pod. Can anyone help please or suggest some pointers? Thank you.

hmmmm. in general, i'm better at XP things like this than 2000. but we'd better try working through some standard possibilities. try the general advice from this document:

  • How do I sync two different ipods with new iTunes software?

Up until I upgraded to the new software, I was able to quickly and easily sync both my iPods. One is an iPod touch; the other a classic. Now, I can't sync my classic. Any idea why or what I'm doing wrong? This new software, IMHO, is not that intuitive.

Is the following document of any help with that?

  • I am unable to make any iTune purchases...there is no "buy" link.

I have not changed any settings and yet I am no longer able to make purchases through iTunes because there is no "buy" link anywhere. I can search, add things to my wishlist, and listen to music I have purchased in the past but there is simply NO button/link to click on for a purchase. I have already gone through the process of repairing my itunes download and have updated the program regulalry. Any suggestions?

The 'buy all' link has, for some reason, been removed from the current version of iTunes. You can buy items individually by clicking on their prices.
You could leave feedback for Apple about the 'buy all' button and maybe it'll be added back in a future update : http://www.apple.com/feedback/itunesapp.html

  • Syncing photos to iPod makes my iTunes crash

I just bought my 4G Nano(Third-Generation) a week ago. It works fine at music.
But everytime i try to sync my photos to iPod my iTunes crash.
I put all my photos into one directory (5MB, 110pics, all low res picture), then start sync them in iTunes.
When the process bar comes to one certain place it stopped, then few minutes later iTunes crash.
Then the tray shows windows message like "coudn't write I:/"(I'm using a chinse version of XP), sometimes iTunes shows could't transfer too.
But there's still 32 photos tranfered, and available to watch them on iPod.
I tried sync some other photos again later, this time the as soon as I started to sync photos, iTunes crashed, then the "coudn't write I:/" message.
I tried again with 5 some other photos, it transfered 2 only, and the same thing comes up, iTunes crashed, the "coudn't write I:/" message.
So, anybody cam help with a solution? It will be perfect to watch photos on my iPod :\

Well, after my fifth try, it worked out.
I just randomly pick out 48 pisc that i liked from my 110 pics. (which are all batting pictures of Albert Pujols. Then it just worked)
No carsh, and less than 1 minutes. (2MB only)
But I won't call this answered, maybe this'll happen a lot in future, I just get lucky this time.
I've search the forum and knowing that VITSA has the problem with syncing photos crashs system, but I'm using XP, not many syncing photo problem in XP beeing seen after my search.
So i'm still very curious what cause this, anyone knows?
And anyone has the same issue i get, please reply.

  • How to tranfer ipod songs to itunes software ?

A virus attacked my computer and killed my itunes libary . Upon re install only 600 of 1100 songs were retreived. All of those songs are on my ipod however it won't sync ( ipod to itunes ) vs the otherway around .
How to sync so i can get the original 11oo songs back on my libary ?

You cannot transfer song files from iPod to computer using iTunes (except for songs purchased from the iTunes Store).  However, there are third-party methods and utilities that can transfer from iPod to computer.  If you do a Google search on something like "ipod transfer," you should get some links.
Once the song files are on your computer, you can add them to your new iTunes library.  If some of those songs are already in your library, you may want to do it selectively, or you'll have to deal with duplicates.

  • Do I HAVE to use the iTunes software to transfer MPS's to iPod?

I didn't have iTunes installed on my PC and was helping a friend, who isn't very techno-savy, to transfer some songs from CD to iPod Shuffle.
Got all the songs ripped from the CD's, then plugged in the iPod Shuffle. My PC recognized it as a USB Mass Storage device, similar to a FLASH DRIVE.
I simply copied and pasted all the songs from the folder on my desktop directly into the iPod. Is there ANY reason I can't simply do that?
I could see with larger more complex iPods, that the iTunes software could have some benefits.
This is the way MP3's have been transferred to "other brand" MP3 players, but I know that Apple has their own "uniqueness," so this method may not work.
I'd prefer NOT to install iTunes on my PC, since I'm hardly going to use it.
    Thanks,
    JP

    The simple answer is YES.
The more complex answer is Google: Alternate iPod Managers

  • My itunes account freezes up

When I plug in my ipod (classic), my itunes account freezes up.  I cannot listen to songs & it doesn't sync new music.  As soon as I unplug my ipod, everything works just fine.  I never had this issue before, but am thinking it has something to do with my device, not my account.  It is an older model (5+ years) ipod classic.  It works just fine on it's own still though.  Does this problem sound familiar to anyone?

I am experiencing the same problem. When I plug my ipod into my laptop it freezes, music will keep playing but I cannot click on anything. When I unplug my ipod i can use itunes again. I have tried restarting, repairing, reinstalling, and disabling automatic syncing to my computer but no changes. It works fine on my old laptop. If anyone one knows anything please help.

  • Ipod makes itunes 7.7 freeze

I recently installed iTunes 7.7 on my computer and now everytime I plug my iPod in it makes iTunes freeze. I've repaired and reinstalled iTunes, but it still doesn't work. Any suggestions?

    Hey,
I'm a windows XP home user and this definitely worked for me!
First of all you could try doing a system date restore (restoring your system to an earlier date/time) to a date before you installed Itunes 7.7
Once this has been completed (normally takes about 10mins) complete the following steps
2). Go to your itunes music folder and find your itunes library file (will be in the letter I section of your track names)
3). Rename this file to itunes.library.itl
4). Move this file to your desktop.
    5). Open Itunes
6). Move itunes.library.itl back into itunes music folder
7). Select all tracks within your itunes folder and move to itunes program so they appear there again
    8). Enjoy music!
This procedure must befollowed otherwise itunes will not open and will state that the library file has been updated by a later version of itunes
NB - this will not affect music stored on an ipod, only what itunes references as music files stored on your computer within itunes music folder.
There is no risk at all of music files being deleted if this procedure is followed, you are only changing the name of the itunes library file.
    Hope this helps
