Ipod touch 3rd Gen not fully starting up - constantly restarting with the apple logo screen

Hi,
First of all, I cannot get my ipod touch (3rd Gen) to start up so I cannot get model specifics and version numbers - though it is iOS 5.1.1
I have obviously tried to restart it by holding the power and home button for 10 secs but this has not done anything.
At the moment, the ipod switches on and I see the black screen with the white apple logo - this stays on for about 3 minutes, then I get the little spinning circle (but it isn't spinning) for a couple of minutes, before it powers off and does this again... repeatedly. It only stopped because the battery power ran out.
I have connected it to my computer with the latest version of itunes - it appears in the devices list but just has a spinning 'loading' icon and is grayed out. As my ipod restarts the cycle again as above, my computer makes the noise as if i just plugged it back in and the above happens again in itunes.
The problem began when I updated apps (through update apps in app store) and it froze - I turned the ipod off to restart it, and now this is happening.
Any help or advice extremely grateful... I can't even access it to get it restored which is a bit of a problem as I have work notes on it. (Obviously I don't know if notes are backed up on ipod backups through itunes?)

- Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

- If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
- Try on another computer
- If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

Have you tried it with another mic?
Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Reset all settings

- Reseting the iPod and then try restoreing the iPod
- Placing the iPod in recovory mode and then restoring the iPOd. For recovery mode see:

Ipod Touch 3rd gen not chargin anywhere else that it isn't my macbook pro and only works on one of the USB ports the other one doesnt recognize it... I use the same USB cord to charge it on the wall for some time now it wont even charge on the wall

i have an ipod touch 3rd gen this is my second ipod touch my fist one the battery died after 4 years so then a bought this one (ipod touch 3gen) and it works perfectlybut for some time know it wont charge anywhere else thats not my macbook pro and the thing is the only charges and its recognized only on one of the USB porst of the laptop i have a windows 7 computer but it wont charge there have a linux (ubuntu) machine and doesnt work either, the wall charger with the same cable i use on the laptop and wont charge either i plug it on my sisters car and wont charge my char wont charge anyways i wont charge anywhere else thats not my macbook pro only with 1 of the 2 USB pork that the MBP has..... any help? can someone ewlp me? i really doubt its the battery cause it charges fine on my MBP :/.... oh now i recently upgrade to OSX Lioin but the problem perssist I did the recent update but the problem persists :/

I have a 3rd Generation ipod touch that is not recognized by itunes or my computer. My itunes works with other apple devices I own. I cannot reset the ipod touch and can never get to the screen where it is supposed to show a red battery to turn it off. I can't reset it. From my experience, the only way you're gonna get a PC afflicted with this disease to work with a 5th gen nano is to roll back to an earlier version of iTunes. Those affected have been exhausted by this ongoing issue. To update or not to update? And I always say never update unless you have to, and turn off all that auto update mess!
I have two core2duo lappies running 32b vista. My workflow dictates 32b fyi. One is acer aspire running itunes v 11.1 (.0.126), 5th gen nano was originally formatted and works just fine on this machine to this day. My other is the bigger badder lenovo thinkpad and the 5th gen will NOT mount using any version of itunes past 11.0 (.1.12) Windows mounts it just fine. itunes is not having it. no shirt no shoes no service.
I have both a 4th and 5th gen nano. The 4th gen works great on both machines, I even successfully tested it with the latest version (11.1.5) before subsequent deletion on the thinkpad! Weird huh? I think my next experiment might be to restore my 5th gen w/ a Mac and theeeeen plug it into PC itunez.
I'm at a loss on the thinkpad. Scanned for intruders. Cut the Lenovo bloat. Executed system and reg maintenance. Took down msconfig to a safe mode + itunes level to attempt to resolve possible sw conflicts but to no avail. NO NO NO. Every single dang port, every time on the thinkpad. Has me feeling like others might get the same treatment by the next itunes update. :|
So in summary for me:
5th gen nano and thinkpad are a NoGo on 11.1^ last working version for me = 11.0.1
5th gen nano is working on an acer aspire 11.1.0 but no way in the world am I updating
4th gen nano is kicking 5th gen nano's @zz so what would make me want to buy a new ipod?

Ipod touch 3rd gen not syncing movies

Today after about 4 years with the same movies on my Ipod touch third gen i decided to change what i had on my device. so i started up itunes for the first time in a few years pluged my device in and it connects no problem. i move all the movies i have into my itunes library. note all the movies are in a .mp4 format. they move into my library no problem. back up my device no problem. i check off in my library all the movies i want to sync along with in my sync settings to sync all videos. when i go to sync i get the warning that all current videos will be erased and replaced with the new movies. i agree and away the sync goes. the sync says it has 4 steps it runs the first 3 steps that are back up and prepare to sync steps but when it reaches step 4 i see it says waiting for changes to be applied but that lasts for half a second then the sync ends. i know it doesnt take half a second to load almost 10 GB. and on i pod touch third gen the movies didnt sync along with all my old movies are gone. i try again and again but no luck.
Any ideas?

IPod Touch 3rd Gen doesn't Start.

I was reformatting my iPod from the device itself and while the apple logo was on screen, I made the poor choice to restart it. Since then, it has been constantly resetting then showing the Apple logo, and resetting. There is also the loading wheel or circle that appears in the middle of the screen then the whole device restarts again. Is there any way to fix this?
I read that the 3rd Gen iPod touches wouldn't take long to reformat but mine did.

I'm talking about music only so far, when I use apple earphones all is fine, but if I use other type of phones ( sony for exemple ) I can only hear the music and the background but not the lead singer voice, can anybody explain this to me? thank you.

- Try cleaning out/blowing out the headphone jack. Try inserting/removing the plug a dozen times or so.
- If still problem, make an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store since it appears you have a hardware problem.

Microphone won't work on iPod touch 3rd Gen; not recognized?

My iPod touch works with the volume control earphones fine. It raises and lowers volume and pauses. When I go into any application that uses the microphone, it says "connect a microphone". I already tried replacing the earphones thinking that was the problem.
Maybe something needs to be configured?

Why isn't my iPod touch 3rd gen not turning on?

Okay, so I turned my off and put it in my purse to go into a store. When I came out, not but at least 10-15 minutes later, I can't turn my iPod back on. It wasn't about to die when I turned it off, but I just assumed it died. I went home and but it on charge, then about an hour later when I went to check it, it still hadn't turned on. I tried holding the sleep button, holding the sleep and home screen button together for 10-30 seconds several times, and even plugging it into my computer but acted as if there wasn't anything plugged into the computer at all, (it didn't even pick it out I guess is another way of saying it?) I don't understand why it won't turn on, it was working perfectly. Perhaps the fact the it was 3 years old? Is there any hope in my iPod ever turning on again? Any advice or tricks would be much appreciated. Thank you.

After charging for half an hour, place the iPod in recovery mode and see if iTunes wll see it so you can restore the iPod. For recovery mode see:

IPod Touch 3rd Gen not playing the selected songs - What's the problem?

Tried to play songs by selecting them but iPod Touch is overriding the selected songs with other songs and displaying those instead. This happens in all my Playlists. Jsut wondering if anyone else has ever encountered this and what is the suggested resolution? Last time I used iTunes, I did switch on the Genius DJ - unsure if this has caused the irregularities now? Help!
