I allowed my ipod to download and install the new ios 5.0.1, now it is stuck in a restore loop.  Itines tries to download the resotre, it gets to 3-4 minustes left, my ipod disconnects, and reconnects.  I get the banner that I need to restore my ipod.  Uninstalled Itunes, Downloaded and reinstalled itunes, no help.
On the ipod screen I have the itunes logo and the USB cable...tried to reset nothing....  ***?!!!

This error is often related to USB timing. Try changing USB ports, using a different dock connector to USB cable, and other available USB troubleshooting steps (troubleshooting USB connections. If you are using a dock, bypass it and connect directly to the white Apple USB dock connector cable. If the issue persists on a known-good computer, the device may need service.
If the issue is not resolved by USB isolation troubleshooting, and another computer is not available, try these steps to resolve the issue:
Connect the device to iTunes, confirm that the device is in Recovery Mode. If it's not in Recovery Mode, put it into Recovery Mode.
Restore and wait for the error.
    When prompted, click OK.
Close and reopen iTunes while the device remains connected.
The device should now be recognized in Recovery Mode again.
    Try to restore again.
If the steps above do not resolve the issue, try restoring using a known-good USB cable, computer, and network connection.

  • Can't sync iPod and stuck in restore loop after upgrading to iTunes 7

I cannot restore my iPod using my desktop, so I use my laptop to do it and it seems to work and I can transfer music to it, but when I reconnect it to my desktop, it tries to erase and resync with the other iTunes library. It seems to go through and I can see the status of all the songs being copied to the iPod, but when I then disconnect to see if it happened, it shows no songs. When I reconnect it to either the laptop or the desktop, it tells me to restore it. Only the laptop will restore, the desktop gets in the restore loop. I tried the selective startup, the drive letter change, the reinstall of iTunes, nothing works. Can anyone tell me if this is an iPod error or a software problem?

Try the following. I expect you will have to let the battery fully drain.
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try another cable
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

    - It is unclear if you manually placed the iPod in recovery mode. Try again using:
iPhone and iPod touch: Unable to update or restore
Then connect to computer and try to restore.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will allow a restore.

  • 2nd Gen iPod Touch stuck in restore mode

My Friend recently gave me his 2nd gen ipod touch that he no longer uses as a gift, i decided to restore it so i could put my music on it and remove all the apps that were on there because i wanted more space for music, while restoring i came across a problem, an error message popped up and said, "The iPod "iPod" cannot be restored, an unknown error occured (2003)." i have the latest version of itunes installed and ive tried everything mentioned in the following article http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=307219, this ipod was fully functiong before i attempted to restore it and now its stuck in restore mode and will not work at all, i do not feel like paying to talk to an apple representitive to help me with a problem that shouldn't be happening in the first place so if someone could help me here that would be greatly appreciated.

Well i had kinda the same problem. I pressed the wake/sleep button and the home button for 10 seconds. Then it shuts down. You connect it to iTunes and says this iPod was in restore mode, and continues or starts again. Hope can help!

  • Ipod touch stuck on restore

My Ipod touch is stuck in restore mode. We have tried restoring a dozen times and nothing will happen
    Any suggestions?

DFU mode is a state DIFFRENT from recovery mode, when connected ipod will not load bootstrap(apple logo) or the iOS. Most people use it for restoring and updating if itunes wont automaticly.
Your iPod become a paperweight at this point because it is difficult to do anything without restoring.
    To enter DFU:
Connect the iPhone to your computer and launch iTunes
Turn the iPhone off (hold down the power button at the top of the iPhone)
Hold down the sleep/power button and home button together for exactly 10 seconds, then release the power button
Continue to hold down the Home button until a message appears in iTunes telling you an iPhone in recover mode has been detected
    Restore as normal.

  • Brand New Ipod Touch stuck in restore mode straight out of the box :(

My Daughters xmas pressy .. ipod touch brought from apple online store will not sync to any of our PC's (Vista or XP) , have latest itunes installed ,have tried restore (numerous times) , rebbots, restarts all the usual stuff but restore always fails. Any ideas folks ? Have a very disapointed teenager here at the moment. thanks

Well first just to let you know the "connect to iTunes" screen or also knows as "the usb cable pointing to iTunes" means to connect it to iTunes to initially set the ipod up. Now if you already have done this or dont get the option to try forcing into recovery mode and then restoring the ipod followed in this article. Also make sure your computer and iTunes is up to date with the latest software.
If not i would try connecting it to anther computer with iTunes 9.0.2 installed and then call Apple if that doesnt work since you purchased it from the Apple online store.

    Hope it helps!!

  • Brand new iPod touch stuck in recovery loop

Earlier today I took delivery of an iPod touch 64GB, 5th generation. I plugged it into iTunes and immediately set about restoring the settings from a back-up of my previous (4th generation) model.
Having done this (but before loading my media) it told me that iOS 6.0.1 was available for download, so I set that going.
Then, having completed the download, I got an error message stating that the iPod couldn't be updated and it went into recovery mode.
Since then, whenever I click on 'Restore', it spends half an hour downloading the iOS update, processes the file and... nothing. I then click on 'Restore and update', tick the usual acceptance screens and the download starts all over again. This has now happened six times.
I've tried putting the iPod touch into DFU mode, but the same scenario occurs. Only once did it get as far as 'extracting software' but stopped shortly afterwards with an error, code 3014. Back to square one.
I'm a bit disappointed, to say the least.

Try disabling the conmputer's antivirus and firewall.
    Also:
Errors 3000-3999 (3004, 3013, 3014, 3018, 3164, 3194, and so on): Error codes in the 3000 range generally mean that iTunes cannot contact the update server (gs.apple.com) on ports 80 or 443.
Update to the latest version of iTunes.
Verify the computer's date and time are accurate.
Check that your security or firewall software is not interfering with ports 80 or 443, or with the server gs.apple.com.
Follow Troubleshooting security software. Often, uninstalling third-party security software will resolve these errors.
An entry in your hosts file may be redirecting requests to gs.apple.com (see "Unable to contact the iOS software update server gs.apple.com" above).
Internet proxy settings can cause this issue. If you are using a proxy, try without using one.
Test restoring while connected to a known-good network.

  • IPod Touch stuck in restore. I keep getting two different error messages.

Forgive me if you've seen this question before and if it's already been answered.
I recently purchased an iPod Touch. It turns on but, you can barely see it. The Apple logo appears and then it goes straight to the restore screen. I updated my iTunes and everything and when I go to restore and update my Touch, I get two different error messages. The first one I get states "Error Message (21)." Now, when I go to unplug the USB cord and plug it back into my Touch, I hold down the Home Key. When I go back into iTunes, it starts the update, it now goes into "Preparing to restore". That's when I get another error message with the numbers "2009".
I went to the Support page and tried the troubleshooting steps but, none have been successful.
Has anyone had this problem? And if so, what was the solution?
Any suggestions/advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.
**Also, I never used a jailbreak. The only reason why I mention this is because no matter how high or low I search the net...every one comes up with a "jailbreak" solution. I don't even know how to go about doing that and I'm not gonna even trust myself trying either.

Make sure the iPod is directly connected to a high-speed USB2 port on the Mac, using the cable that came with it. Also try disconnecting all other USB devices, other than the keyboard and mouse.
Try restoring the iPod touch on another computer.
If the iPod does not restore from another computer, request repair online, make a reservation to have a Genius at a local Apple retail store take a look at it or call AppleCare.

  • IPod touch stuck in a loop and won't charge

My iPod touch was left overnight with a full battery and was down to 20% in the morning. I've since learned that this is due to my ipod being connected to the wifi all the time.
However, when I connected my ipod to my laptop to charge it up again, it started looping the same 2 screens repeatedly and just won't charge.
First it shows the screen illustrating that there's no battery left and the ipod needs to be charged, then the loading screen (the white Apple logo) appears for about a minute before the ipod shuts off again. This loop doesn't end no matter what combination of buttons I press, and disconnecting it from the laptop just shuts it off again. If I try turning it on, it just tells me there's no battery.
Any thoughts on what I should do with this? Thanks in advance
