Ipod wont work unless plugged in!!

I just bought an ipod nano (newest smaller one) 8gb. Its been plugged in for a few hours and says "fully charged". I eject the ipod in itunes and unplugg it. As soon as i unplug it the ipod turns off and stays off. I try to turn it back on and its as if theres no power at all. Its NOT on hold and it did say fully charged. Thanks in advance.

Where does it say "fully charged"?
I've never seen an iPod with that message, perhaps iTunes does display it.

That's wrong, iPods don't do that normally.
My guess is that you either have a bad battery, or the battery is not connected properly. Either way you have to return the iPod since you cannot do anything about the battery.

Another test would be to eject the iPod in iTunes but keep it connected, does it work normally? (it's difficult to connect the earphones with the USB cable connected but you can try just working the menu and moving around. What's the battery icon indicating?
After checking that it works with the USB cable connected, disconnect the USB (it's already ejected so you just disconnect the cable). Does it turn off immediately? if it takes a few seconds, then the battery is bad, if it just turns off then the battery is not installed correctly (also in the former case you will notice a few icons before it turns off).

  • Nearly unused 2nd gen 4gb wont work unless plugged into computer or dock

I have a 2nd gen 4gb nano that my sister won a yr and a half ago, but just gave to me recently and still new in the box until a few days ago. After plugging it in and getting the message to update my itunes I upgraded to the most current version of itunes 8 and let the ipod charge overnight. The next day it says it's fully charged and I sync a playlist from my itunes to it, but the ipod only turns on when plugged into one of the usb ports on my computer and my roommate's docking station. As soon as i unplug it, the ipod turns off and will not turn on. Any ideas as to what is wrong and/or how to fix this?

Lithium ion batteries need to be exercised and obviously this one didn't get any.
You'll need a new battery: http://www.ipodjuice.com or Google for other 3rd party sites.

my macbook wont work unless it plugged in to the charger, how much would this cost to get fixed

you need to bring it somewhere to have it looked at to determine what is wrong with it.

  • I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes, it is saying i have to restore my ipod touch to factory settings, will i loose all my films by doing this, as now my ipod wont work anyway unless i restore ?

I had to change my hard drive, now i'v tried to reinstall itunes it says i have to restore my iopd touch to factory settings and will loose my files. I have a few films on there and they show up on my purchases. If i restore, will i be able to get my films back ? as at the moment my ipod wont work now untill i restore anyway.

Syncing to a new iTunes library or computer will erase your ipod. Only if you back up your device manually before syncing, you can restore from that backup again. A manual backup does not include the sync process.
    Here's how to:
Disable autosync in iTunes, connect your ipod to your computer and right click on it in the device list and choose backup. iTunes will backup your ipod without syncing.
Transfer your purchases the same way, choosing "transfer purchases" this time.
When you connect your device for the first time, all media content will be erased. But you can restore your settings and app data from your manual backup afterwards.
Don't forget to set up at least one contact and event on your new computer to be able to merge calendars and contacts when you sync the ipod for the first time.

  • Nano will not work unless plugged in

    Hello.
I have searched through the help section and through the forums, but I can not seem to crack this problem.
My inlaws told me there iPod nano would not work anymore. They simply told me that they could not get it to come on. I thought I could fix it rather easy. Turns out that it isn't that easy.
The nano will only work when I have it plugged up. It says it is fully charged. When I unplug the nano, the screen dims out for a second and then goes to gray as if it were off. I can not get it to come back on however. When it is plugged in, I can navigate through the nano as if there are no problems. As soon as it is unplugged however it acts dead.
Any suggestions? I've tried resetting. Doesn't work unless plugged in...and didn't solve the problem. I've done the five r's. No problems with the hold button...
I am lost on this one guys.

I would say that it's a dud battery.
You can arrange online service here.
    Service request.
Or if an Apple store is near you, take it there and have them check your iPod.

  • My iPod only works when plugged into a wall socket!

Anyone know why my iPOD only works when plugged into a wall outlet? I tried it on the Bose docking station and also my MacBook and it won't work!
    Any ideas??

Sounds like a dead battery.  You can have Apple swap out the battery for a flat fee or you can send it to a third party service center to have them do the same for job a little less.

  • HP Spectre XT 2050nr - Doesnt work unless plugged in

    Hi guys,
My computer doesnt work unless plugged in. The tech support helped me uninstall and reinstall the battery, update bios and check for errors. Everything passed. It still dies when unplugged, instantly. It will not boot unless plugged in. The battery reads 98% charged 24/7.
    Any other solutions?

How old is it? The battery is a warranted item and it looks like, most likely, the battery has died.

  • IPod will not work unless plugged into USB iPod 4th Generation

I have just bought my first iPod and I cannot get it to work unless it is plugged into the computer. The battery says that it's charged but as soon as I unplug it from the computer I can't get it to turn on. Has anyone else had this problem. I am using plugs that I got when I purchased the iPod.

I had a similar issue. When I got my 16GB 4th Gen Nano, unless it was plugged into the USB port of my Mac, it would continually reboot. I might be able to get 2-3 clicks in while navigating the menua, but it would always reboot. If it was plugged in, worked great. I returned it and the new seems to be fine (other than Coverflow issues).

  • Elan Sayso/Tempo Multimedia TTS? - Ipod wont work with itunes

    What does this mean?
I can put my itunes on fine and I can plug in my ipod nano 16gb...but seperately only. If I have itunes on and plug in my ipod then 'Elan Sayso/Tempo Multimedia TTS Server has stopped working' and I have to shut down itunes as it has froze.
Ive tried what apple have suggested so itunes has been uninstalled etc and my 3rd generation ipod nano works fine but it just wont work for my 5th generation.
Please help - also I am not that clever with computers so you may have to dumb it down! Many thanks

Where would I find any updates?
No idea since I don't have whatever software you are using but I'd probably start here -> http://www.acapela-group.com/

  • My ipod only works when plugged in.

I always keep my ipod plugged into my doc and it plays fine on there and when it comes off the battery life is great. But when its off the doc the click wheel wont work and it goes idle. I tried plugging it into the wall and the pad works fine. It will oddly enough work when it has a cord plugged into the ipod but also unplugged from the all, like it has to have something in the bottom weather it's charging or no. Why wont the buttons work when something isnt plugged into the bottom of it? It's a 4th generation nano, 8g if that helps.

You can work through the remaining five 5 R's of troubleshooting.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/five_rs/
It might also be a good idea to let the iPod's battery fully drain. Then charge it back up and restore it once more in iTunes.
Otherwise, it's likely a hardware issue with the iPod's clickwheel, meaning you'll need to take or send your iPod in for service either via Apple or a third party repair service. Here is Apple's repair pricing.
    http://www.apple.com/support/ipod/service/prices/
Note that they don't actually repair the device, but exchange it for one of the same generation, model, and capacity.  A third party service will actually replace the damaged part for a little less.  Google "iPod clickwheel repair" and you should get a number of results to work with.

  • Won't work unless plugged in

My 5th gen. iPod is about a year and a half old and has hardly been used because it WON'T WORK UNLESS IT'S PLUGGED IN! Whenever I plug it into my MacBook, it turns on, restores, syncs, etc. But whenever it is unplugged, it immediately shuts off and won't work. Help?!

Take the iPod Nano to an Apple store or an AASP.  Whichever is more convenient for you.  More than likely you need a new battery.

  • IPod only works while plugged into computer!

Help! My 2Gb iPod nano went through the washing machine, and after a few days of drying out, it only works while plugged into the computer. As soon as I take it out, the screen goes blank. I can access all my music, podcasts and photos while it's plugged in. I have tried the 5 Rs to no avail. Anybody have any ideas?

I also sent my nano through the wash and I found that if you get an ac adapter and plug it in for a few hours you will have battery life. This made me very happy however I have noticed that I can not turn the ipod off unless the hold button is on. Battery life is also not as long but long enough for me. Hope this helps

  • Please help me my ipod wont work! D:

I need serious help D:! ok so i have succesfully synced music onto my ipod b4 but i wanted more songs so i was syncing music onto my ipod touch once again and once the sync was almost finished it said something about an error and then when i unplugged my ipod all of my songs that i had 1st put on my ipod were gone D:! after that my ipod stopped showing up on itunes on one of my computers so i switched to the other and it started doing the same thing. i came on here and was told it might be because itunes wasnt up to date so i updated itunes and my ipod but after the update, during the time when it was backing up software i think, another error popped up and said something about how the session had timed out, my internet connection is fine to so it wasnt that. after that another error popped up saying i needed to restore my ipod back to its factory settings and i said ok but another error always pops up saying the sesion timed out of something! now my ipod is like it was when i first got it! the screen shows the end of a usb cord pointed at the itunes sign! ive tried turning it off but it wont work! and when i try to hook it up to itunes on either off my computers it doesnt show up in itunes and a message from windows pops up and says "Found new hardware: Windows needs to install driver software for your apple mobile device (Recovery mode)" please help me i cant even do anything at all with my ipod right now! D:

The Internet provider might have too many people using the Internet than what the particular servers are setup for. Or your computer just needs to reset. Try restarting your computer. Also do a hard reset on the iPod. Hold the power button and wake button down until you see the apple logo come on. Let go. Then let the ipod finish bopting up . Then restore your iPod as a new iPod, NOT from the backup.

  • IPod wont work with iMac but works in Vista

I have an 80GB iPod Classic that works perfect on my computer running Windows Vista and iTunes 7. I have only ever used it with iTunes.
My iPod's format is FAT32 (Windows). And it's running software Version 1.1.2 and disk use is enabled.
When i try and plug it into an iMac (iMac G5) running OS X 10.3.9 it doesn't work. It doesn't come up as an external drive so I can't access it as an external disk and it fails to work in iTunes.
I have upgraded the Mac to the latest version of iTunes but this still doesn't solve the problem. I tunes gives me the following error "iTunes has detected an iPod that appears to be corrupted...". This is not the case, my iPod is not corrupted.
How can i get my iPod to work on the Mac?

If you buy an iPod, you are Apple's customer whether you use Windows or Mac OS X. Therefore, your statement
nice how they screw their own customers.
    makes zero sense.
If Apple products work in Windows for an extended period of time, this is because the most common and popular (by far) version of Windows is getting on 8 years old. And since XP is so prevalent, Apple has to support it, just like any other company that makes products that work with Windows. It is highly unlikely that Windows Vista will ever surpass XP in usage; Apple will no doubt continue to support XP with iTunes and iPods when XP is TEN years old.
For Mac OS X, Apple has been pushing the rate of development much faster. Therefore, Panther is already "old" technology, even if it was released after Windows XP. Panther is PowerPC-only and most active Macs (in the installed base) are now Intel-based, with 3 million new Intel Macs being added to the installed base every quarter. ALL Intel Macs use Tiger or Leopard. Most Power PC Mac users with supported hardware have at least upgraded to Tiger, if not Leopard. Therefore, only a small fraction of Mac users still use Panther day to day. SO... Tiger is obviously a good cutoff point for backward support, just as Windows XP is a good cutoff point on the Windows side. It's just common sense, not Apple trying to "screw customers."
It's not just Apple using this common sense. Many, if not most, third party software and hardware Mac products being released right now require Tiger or Leopard, just like with Apple.
As for your actual problem, I would try Restoring the iPod on the Windows side (assuming you have a copy of all the files on the PC). A Mac should be able to read FAT32 format, both in iTunes (using manual management) and as a hard drive using Finder. If you can get this to work, you can copy the iTunes media files onto the iPod as files (not through iTunes) and then transfer them to the Mac as files. Then load them into the Mac's iTunes library.
Continue using your Windows PC to sync the iPod. On the Mac side, use +manual management+ (do not sync).
