IPTC Date Created format

When importing images into Lightroom v1.1 The IPTC Date Created field appears to take it's value from the EXIF field Date Original, so far so good, but it copies it in the following format yyyy-mm-ddThr-min-sec+10.00. Is there a way of just getting the "date" part into the IPTC date created field?
Regards Willem

Hi Matteo
This is what I noticed in LR there 4 date fields 3 EXIF
Date Time Original 13/08/2007 12:20:07
Date Time Digitized 13/08/2007 12:20:07
Date Time 13/08/2007 12:20:07
and one in the IPTC section called "Date Created"
the behaviour I see in LR is as follows
If when "importing images" I apply the Metadata preset "None", or a preset that leaves the "Date Created" field in the IPTC Image section unchecked, the IPTC Date Created field shows the following value
Date Created 2007-08-13T12:20:07Z
if I tick the box next to the Date Created field in the IPTC Image section in the Metadata presets and leave the field itself empty, the Date Created field in imported image is blank.
I can off course enter a date only at this stage and have that date show in LR, but I often import image in a batch that have been shot on different days.
What I would like to be able to do is to have just the date part end up in the IPTC date field eg. 2007-08-13 without the T12:20:07Z
Thanks Willem

  • IPTC Date Created only imports for October

I'm creating JPEGS with only IPTC and EXIF data in and the field 2:55 Date Created only seems to appear in the File Info / Origin / Date Created in CS4 if the date is set to october??
Manually editing the jpeg file, for example 20081007 works but 20080907 fails, even if I change the remaining EXIF and IPTC date fields to match
I dont suppose anyone has any ideas as this is driving me nuts!
    Thanks
    Derek

No, that changes the Date on the EXIF panel, in my case the date the scans were made. I want that date to stand and the IPTC Date Created date changed.
Probably doesn't matter anyway, since I have just discovered that changes I make in Aperture IPTC metadata cannot be written to the master copy. At least not for TIFF files. Strangely, it does seem to work for jpgs.
Too bad. I liked some Aperture features.

  • Option for IPTC "Date Created" field to be auto-populated?

    Hi,
The date of capture is held within the "Date Time Original" field in the EXIF data; but the IPTC "Date Created" field is blank.
Currently i have to fill this in manually  if i want it populated (which i have to do for a certain customer, for hundreds of differently dated images)  but i would really like a "replicate" button by which i can auto-populate this field; or someother easy workaround that i might be missing here?!?
    thanks,

Hmm, both LR 3.6 and LR 4.0 normally set IPTC:DateCreated to be the same as EXIF:DateTimeOriginal, both on export and when you do Metadata > Save To File.
Perhaps you could post a culprit image here (use the camera icon) to see what might be going on with you.

  • Date created in IPTC not in slide show

    Hi,
Currently I am processing analoge pictures in Lightroom 3.6.
When adding IPTC data to a slide show, I am able to add almost every item, except "Date created". That does not apear in the ABC list.
Does somebody have a clue how to fix that?
    Thanks, Henk

Let's tease apart the issues, because they're messy:
The ABC "Date" field in the LR slideshow shows the capture time of the photo, as recorded in the LR catalog.
When you first import a photo into a catalog, LR reads the catalog capture time from the fields EXIF:DateTimeOriginal, XMP:DateTimeOriginal, or XMP:DateCreated.  (According to the standard, it should also get it from IPTC:DateCreated, but it doesn't, which is a bug.)
You change the catalog capture time using the Metadata > Edit Capture Time command.  Using this command will change the metadata fields EXIF:DateTimeOriginal, XMP:DateCreated, and IPTC:DateCreated.   Changing the IPTC Date Created field in LR's Metadata panel does not change the catalog capture time.
So, if you have a lot of photos in your catalog with just the IPTC:DateCreated field set and not EXIF:DateTimeOriginal or XMP:DateCreated set, and you want the LR catalog capture time to be set to the value of IPTC:DateCreated so you can show the capture time in slideshows, you have a couple of options:
    - Use the Metadata > Edit Capture Time to change each photo individually.
    - Write all the metadata from the catalog back to the photos using Metadata > Save Metadata To File, then use the free Exiftool to copy IPTC:DateCreated to XMP:DateCreated.  (Exiftool has a fairly steep learning curve unless you're comfortable with command-line tools.)  Then reread all of the photos' metadata back into the catalog using Metadata > Read Metadata From File.  (I don't know of a plugin that will do this -- the Search Replace Transfer plugin can't do it.)

  • Problems with the "Date Created" Metadata in Adobe Bridge

    Hi everyone.
I am currently working on an electronic photo library for our organization.  Part of my mandate is to add a Date Created metadata on all the photos since it is very important to know when the photo was taken.  Some photos were dated since 1980s.  Since we do not have the digital version of the old photos, we end up scanning these and, in effect the date specified on the "Date Created" was the date it was scanned.
I have the date of some of the old photos when it was taken, but for some, I only have the month and the year (sometimes, just the year).  Inventing a day and a month is not an option.
Is it possible to enter a month-year or just the year on the Date Created field under Metadata?
    I appreciate your help.
    Thanks,
    .m.u.r.d.o.c.h.

The problem is that dates are recorded in the file in different schemas. Bridge is displaying the XMP Date Created field which was likely derived from the original Exif date (probably DateTimeOriginal, but may be DateTimeDigitized). This will be the date recorded in the file by the scanner software at the time it was scanned.
The IPTC Date Created field is handled differently. It seems counterintuitive, but if you work in the news business you will know that news photographers often use the IPTC Date Created field more like a "date submitted" or "date scheduled" property, so that photos for a particular shoot which may have been captured over multiple days will sort together.  Because of this, most image browsers will not update the XMP Date Created (or Date Taken) fields when the IPTC Core date is changed.
You can edit the original capture date in various programs, which should cause both the Exif and the XMP Date Created fields to be updated. Two that come to mind are Lightroom and BreezeBrowser Pro (for Windows).  I've found that with certain images it is necessary to use both programs to get all the dates to line up.

  • IPTC Date from the file properties (EXIF) at import?

Is it possible to fill IPTC Date Created Field from the raw-file properties  at import to LR4?
It would be nice – and time saving.

    Thank You  Geoff & Ian
My mistake. I had a checkmark in the empty date-field in my standard metadata-preset. I now understand, that the date-field shall be left blank with no checkmark in the preset to get the date correct in IPTC. Thank You again.

  • Mismatch in "Date Created" in File Properties vs IPTC Core

I have scanned my old photos in .jpg format.  When I try to change the Date Created (Select Photo -> Right-Click -> File Info... -> under IPTC Image -> Change the Date Created to the date the event was held), the Date Created under File properties did not change.  In effect, when I want to do a search of dates, it does its search on the Date Created in File properties.
Can I change the date on the File Properties?  If so, how.  Can this be done on a batch, like synchronization of Date Created in File Properties and IPTC Core but using the information on the IPTC core.
btw, I am using Bridge that comes part of the Photoshop CS2.
    Heeelllllppppp........

There have been several posts about changing the "date created" in Bridge.  The conclulsion is NO.  There are other programs that can do this so concentrate your efforts there (do not have a list so will have to explore).
Do not confuse the three "dates" that are in metastock.
Date Created (as set by camera when shot).
         Date File Created
         Date File Modified

  • Date Created, Date Modified format

    Hello.
I have set several database fields as Autogenerated with Date Created or Date Modified option in Designer 9i. TAPI generated populate the field with time value missing - only the date (e.g. '06.06.2002'). I want the field to contain time as well (e.g. '06.06.2002 11:23:34'). What Designer option to find? Thanks.
    Ivan Virag

This is a preference setting, and the default is to use date only - no time value. To change the preference in the Design Editor, do this.
Select Options from the menu at the top of the screen.
Select Generator Options from the dropdown menu.
Select General... from the next level menu.
On the General Generator Options there is a checkbox labeled: Record Time On Change History Columns.
Check this box, press the OK button, and re-generate the TAPI. You'll see the TRUNC(SYSDATE) in the generated code for maintaining your Date Created and Date Modified columns has changed to just SYSDATE.
Unfortunately, this changes it for any application you generate - that is fine with me, but your requirements may vary.

  • Unable to change Date Created in Metadata

Please help with my first post...
Unable to change Date Created field in Metadata.
I am a newspaper photographer sending .jpg pics with captions to my office from my iMac. They are viewed at the office on Windows PCs using SCC MediaGrid.
When changing Date Created in Metadata Invalid Format warning appears "Format should be ISO 8601 XML compliant, that is YYYY-MM-DDThh:mm[:ss][tz] (eg 2006-07-11T13:14:30-07:00)"
If 2009-09-26, for example, is entered then exported pictures opened up in Photoshop or shown on SCC MediaGrid do not display the date.
To get dates to show up I first have to open a pic in Photoshop, go to File Info, enter 26/9/09 in Date Created and Save As.
Next I have to Import this into Aperture where the Date Created shows as "20090926".
Using Lift Metadata and Stamp Metadata the date can be transferred to other pics.
Now when I export these pics the date does show up in Photoshop and SCC MediaGrid.
Can Date Created be typed straight into field in Aperture?...Very important when pics go into archive on a server.
Also if I hit Return key in a Metadata Caption, to type on the next line, both lines will appear as one with a small square in-between them when viewed on SCC MediaGrid on a Windows PC.
    Thanks in anticipation.

Nick I don't generallt use the IPTC metadata, so I'm not sure I will be too much help.
What version of Aperture are you using? I tried both things and I didn't have any problems with the latest version of Aperture on my Mac.
I was able to enter a date into "Date Created" both with and without the time-zone adjustment. Can you tell us the exact string you tried to enter into the "Date Created" and exactly when you get the error? I tried to enter my time zone (eastern US) as "-5:00", but Aperture wouldn't let me enter the 5 and popped up the error message when I typed that key. I had to use "-05:00".
As for the caption, when I hit return, Aperture ends my edit. I cannot reproduce your described behavior of actually getting a new-line into the field. I suspect your problem (although I don't know how you get to your problem) is one of the following:
    1) The IPTC standard doesn't tell if the software should use a Unix-style end-of-line (which is a line-feed), or a DOS/Windows style end-of-line (which is carriage-return followed by line-feed). Aperture may put in the Unix-style and your Windows programs don't know what to do with it.
    2) The IPTC standard does indicate the end-of-line style, but either Aperture or your other programs don't follow it.
    or
    3) IPTC Metadata doesn't actually support end-of-line, so Aperture should not allow you to enter multiple lines, but it has a bug so it does allow you to do that.
Can you tell us where exactly you are editing the caption? I tried it in the inspector pane (on the left) in the "Metadata" tab, and then I hit the "IPTC" button at the bottom of the tab.

  • Specifying date time format in Finder

How can I specify the date-time format in Finder for the "date-modified" and "date-created" columns in list view?
About three years ago, I got a command line instruction to set these formats and I kept it at mm/dd/yy
Then a couple days ago, I changed the date format in iStat menus and the date-time formats started acting weird. I want the dates to be like "07/08/05" (mm/dd/yy) and then the formats started changing to "November 07, 2008" (month/dd/yyyy). This change seemed to take effect any time I open the view options for a folder. Now I discovered that the date format change depending on the column width according to the format specified in system preferences, international, formats.
Narrow column, short date format; a little wider to long format, with ellipses if the column is not wide enough; then full format.
Does anyone know the command line to set the format to keep it to the one I want?

this doesn't seem to be it. however I now like the way Finder does display dates -- format gets more compact as the width of the column decreases; although there still is some excess space left on the left -- perhaps for AM & PM which I don't use; I use a 24 hour time format instead.
    Happy New Year

  • Bridge CS6 occasionally displaying wrong 'Date Created' for .NEF's

I noticed this problem only recently, and this the third time it happens (that I know of).
Sometimes my Bridge puts a wrong Date Created (not Date File Created or Date File Modified) on a NEF RAW file, whilst the next one (taken perhaps just a few seconds or a minute later) has the proper date. Strangely the Date File Created & Modified do show the proper creation date.
    Example to clarify:
Metadata viewed on my D90 itself
    Photo 1 taken on: 30/09/2013, 9:03:26 PM (DD-MM-YYYY)
    Photo 2: 30/09/2013, 9:07:52 PM
    Photo 3: 30/09/2013, 9:08:12 PM
    Photo 4: 30/09/2013, 9:08:34 PM
    Photo 5: 30/09/2013, 9:08:54 PM
    Photo 6: 30/09/2013, 9:09:34 PM
    viewing in bridge:
    Photo 1: Date Created: 30/09/2013, 9:03:26 PM
Date File Created: 30/09/2013, 9:03:26 PM

    Photo 3: Date Created: 23/09/2013, 7:42:02 PM

    Photo 4: Date Created: 30/09/2013, 9:08:34 PM

Date File Modified: 30/09/2013, 9:08:34 PM
    Photo 5: Date Created: 04/09/2013, 10:14:45 AM
Date File Created: 30/09/2013, 9:08:54 PM
Date File Modified: 30/09/2013, 9:08:54 PM

Date File Modified: 30/09/2013, 9:09:34 PM
As you can see, it's not a 'stable' deviation.
I could live with it, apart from one problem: the batch rename function only has 'Date Created' as option for renaming with date.
It's also quite annoying for my photography study, since my teachers might get confused by the wrong date in the Metadata when I turn my photo in.
I tried compacting the cache whilst my camera's SD card wasn't connected (so the files aren't 'available' anymore), no difference.
Another thing I tried was to hook my SD card up on a different computer, same result.
So it might be my SD card, but that doesn't explain why the correct date is shown on my D90 itself, though.
If anybody here has an idea how to fix / avoid this problem, help is much appreciated.
    Greetings,
    Alex

I have never inserted the 8GB card in the D3000 before just a minute ago.
And I just took 7 rapid photo's of my previous post (~1s interval)
All 7 displayed actual date in my camera, the first 4 displayed a wrong date in bridge (24/09/2013, times; 2:12:16PM, 2:12:20PM, 3:09:24PM and 3:10:26PM). Last 3 displayed proper time in bridge.
So yea, I'm pretty sure something is wrong. I'll try formatting the SD card (as suggested before) but however you look at it, this doesn't add up.
    edit:
Well I figured out one thing: if I view the photo's directly on my SD card through bridge, it shows the same date for Date Created, Date File Created and Date File Modified.
Quite logical, to be honest, since I am viewing the date the file was created on the camera.
However, if I export photo's with Adobe Photo Downloader (or whatever it's called again), it displays the date those copies were created (by Date File Created). Date File Modified is still ~the same as Date Created since it hasn't been modified since the original creation.
    edit2:
The formatting seems to have solved the issue, for now anyway. Still have no clue why the SD card got such (occasional) cases of drunkness.

  • How do you add a format to the "Date Picker Format Mask" available formats?

    Hi,
When I select the Date Picker Format Mask or "Number / Date Format" they doen't have YYYYMMDD or others that may be desired...
How do you add a format to the available formats?
    Thank you, Bill

Bill - From the popup help text:
If you need to create a Date Picker item, but the format you need does not appear in the Display As list, select Date Picker (use application format mask). When an application uses this type of date picker, the Application Express engine derives the date format from an item named PICK_DATE_FORMAT_MASK. You can populate this item in two ways:
    - By defining an application substitution string named PICK_DATE_FORMAT_MASK
    - By creating an application-level item named PICK_DATE_FORMAT_MASK
See the doc for more details.
