IQ770 All other users logging on just get a blue screen

I have no problem logging on to the PC with my user account, but when any other user that I set up (or the Guest logon) attempts to log it says "Wecome" and then goes to a blue screen and that's it (even if the new User account is set up with Administrator privileges).  If I do a CTL-ALT-DEL at that point it will bring up the screen that allows me to Switch User or shut down the PC - if I switch to my user account it says the other user is logged on but they just get the blue screen.  Anyone have any idea what is going on or how to fix it?  Thanks much.

Might be a virus.
I suggest creating a new account again, and wiping out their accounts if their data is saved.
If this doesn't work, either System Restore or System Recovery.
I have more HP devices than you'd expect.
1 HP TouchPad 32 GB with Android
2 HP Touchsmarts (310-1000z and IQ527)
2 HP Printers (J6480 and J5750)
1 Laptop (HP DV6253CL)
Have at least some experience in each of those devices, and i'll do my best to help you.
Kudos if I helped!

  • Why does my late 2013 IMac OS X Yosemite 10.10.2 keep logging of the administrator while leaving all other users logged on?

Over the past few months I have noticed that my IMac logs off only the administrator account overnight while leaving all other user accounts logged on. The computer does not physically restart, it simply logged out the administator. It has never logged me out while I am using the administrator account, it only logs off the administrator if the computer has been ideal for more than roughly 20 minuets.
I have checked all of my energy saving settings and security settings and nothing appears to fix this problem. However, after browsing some online help forums I decided to check my console to see if anything look out of place and I did find something.
I am not sure what it means but I don't think these error messages are good. Can someone help me figure out what these mean and inform me if they are related to me overall problem of getting logged out?
    Thanks

Hi Linc thank you for getting back to me.
I don't see anything labeled as crash reports under system diagnostics. I do not use the console very often because I only do basic things on my iMac so my familiarity with it is not as good.
I know you said you wanted text but I can't past this text here so it is another screen shot. If you see something you want more information on, I can post the text of that specific line.
Keep in mind, since last night when I originally posted, the administrator account has been logged off, while my other account remained logged on and good to go.

  • How to backup files from other user logged in as administrator

RE: How to backup files from other user logged in as administrator AND/OR how to repair drive with "Invalid catalog PEOF"
    Hello,
My MacBook Pro computer’s hard drive is not booting.
I booted with the base operating system and ran Disk utilities and I got the following messages:
        Invalid catalog PEOF
The volume could not be verified completely.
This disk needs to be repaired.
Disk utility can’t repair this disk. Backup as many files as possible, reformat the disk,
        and restore your backed-up files.
The problem is that I have a couple of USERS set up on this computer, and it won’t let me backup the files of the second user.  The folders are locked and I can’t access them, even though I am logged in as the administrator.
I made a boot disk on my other computer ( a MacPro Early 2008 ) desktop computer with the DiskWarrior 4.4 updater,
but it won’t boot on my MacBook Pro.
How can I backup these user files so that I can copy them back once I fix the drive?
or better yet,  How can I repair the Invalid catalog PEOF on this drive?
Thank you in advance for your time!
    Bill

Try using Disk Utility/Restore to copy the backup to a new location. Please note that this will reformat the destination partition which will erase all data.
Do a backup. Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option/alt key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors.  Reformat the drive using Disk Utility/Erase Mac OS Extended (Journaled), then click the Option button and select GUID. Then re-install the OS.

    Hi G-Man,
It's probably something in the Preferences folder; Users/herusername/Library/Preferences. Start by removing com.apple.ImageCaptureApp.plist and trying again. If that doesn't do it drag the entire Preference folder to the desktop, log out and back in. Launch it again and if it works you can either reset preferences for all System Preferences and apps or drag the preferences files a group at a time back to the new Preference folder in Library and test Image Capture each time. That way you can narrow it down to the one offending preference file.

  • I got a virus in my email on my IPAD the date was of the email was from 1969.  It started mutlipling and them wied out all my email accounts it seems to just be locked.  I just get a blank screen in email.  What do I do?

My IPAD 2 got a virus in my email.  The date of the email was from 1969.  It started mulltipling and just wiped out all my email accounts.  I just get a blank screen in email and it apears to be locked.  What can I do?

    It's not a virus.
Try turning the account off and on : Settings > Mail, Contacts, Calendars , then tap the account on the right, slide Mail to 'off', exit settings and go back into the Mail app, and then go back to Settings and slide Mail back to 'on'
If that doesn't work then try closing the Mail app completely : from the home screen (i.e.not with the Mail app 'open' on-screen) double-click the home button to bring up the taskbar, then press and hold any of the apps on the taskbar for a couple of seconds or so until they start shaking, then press the '-' in the top left of the Mail app to close it, and touch any part of the screen above the taskbar so as to stop the shaking and close the taskbar.
Also do a reset : press and hold both the sleep and home buttons for about 10 to 15 seconds (ignore the red slider), after which the Apple logo should appear - you won't lose any content, it's the iPad equivalent of a reboot.

  • Some clients see all other users some dont?

    Hello Apple Forums!
I have a question regarding my ichat service running on a 10.6.2 machine (x-serve)
I had 1 user today that I set up on our ichat, and when I added her, logged in to the server, however no buddy list. My experience with all other users is when they are added, they immediately see all the other users who are logged in. Im not sure how to resolve this. I know have to add buddies to all the internal employees in order for them to see her. Can someone please tell me what I am doing wrong?
Please let me know what other information you need.
    Thanks,

Thanks for the correction on the forum posting. Should I re-post or is there an admin that can kindly move over for me?
    tibor.moldovan:
I have researched this issue for a while now. I have cleared all the local preferences on the end users machine. I have not set up a test user, however I will. All other clients I have added recently, the entire "workgroup" (everyone part of the same workgroup) show up. Come to think of it, this particular user is in more than one workgroup. Hmmm. Maybe this is related to what is going on? If the "workgroup" group is not primary, then she wouldn't necessarily see everyone else?
    Tim:
Adding (or sending buddy requests) to the other users in the ichat server (this is a local ichat for interoffice comm only) when accepted, those "added" buddies show up fine and can communicate.

  • TS3147 Printers Pausing: Other Users Log-off before job done permanently pauses printers

I have a problem with printers pausing. I work for a University, and this concerns computer lab Macs. Whenever someone Prints to a printer, and logs off before the print job is completely though, the printer pauses permanently for all other users.
I have found 2 temporary fixes:
         1) have initial user log back in, and allow job to complete (Hard to do, since there are 4000+ students here)
         2) Delete printer and re-add them (I unpause close to 1-3 printers a day this way currently)
Since those fixes require multiple trips, and or trying to reach people, they are not great solutions
How can I fix this problem so it won't happen again?
Theories of how to fix I don't know how to impliment (I normally am a PC guy):
         1) Clear print que on log-off Script
         2) Delay Log-off Script (Allow print job to go though)
         3) Checkbox somewhere to override the printers pausing?
Happens on both our iMacs, and Mac Minis we use on campus.

4on6 wrote:There are some related threads in this forum, but I still can't figure out what is my problem (printer works in some situations - printing a pdf in evince or a webpage in chromium - but in others not, e.g. printing from emacs).
The distinction that comes to mind here is that emacs (and some others) will print via lp.  I suspect that the default printer for lp is not set, and therefore the print job is lost.
To test this, create ~/.cups/lpoptions (if you don't already have it) with the content:
    Default <The_Name_Of_My_Printer_In_CUPS>
    And see if that helps.

  • After logging on you yahoo this am, my calendar and notepad are gone. When I click on them I just get a blank screen. I am not very computer literate and need help getting them back.

When I usually go into yahoo mail, there is an icon at the top left hand side to access my calendar and notepad. They are both gone, but there is a field in the bottom left corner that has the buttons. When I click on either one, I just get a blank screen. I've not updated by Firefox to a new version and can't imagine what happened overnight.

This sounds more like it's a temporary problem with Yahoo's mail website. My advice at this point is to see if this fixes itself within a few hours. If not, please come back (actually, do come back regardless and let us know if your problem is solved).

  • How do I set all users to have complete permission access to all other users on a single Macbook?

How do I set all users to have complete permission access to all other users on a single Macbook?  When one user uploads a picture from camera, the other user is told they don't have permission to view.  Same with music.

Go to System preference> accouts>unlock>click+and add name of new user, Adrop dowm window will appear, new Account and set for Admi, fill in their name, to make things even more simple, use the same password for all,if it will allow it. Click ceate account. Click allow user to admin this computer. Then go to sys prefs, sharing and click all the things you want to let everyone use, If you use separeate paswords then each user can set their own preferences. All users can be set as as administrator, click allow access for all users. This will allow every one pretty much the same access.
OH yeah reart the computer sfter added a new user, and test the new login, if it's good coninue.

  • On start up i just get a grey screen with the apple logo-this has suddenly started happenin. Please help?

on start up i just get a grey screen with the apple logo-this has suddenly started happenin. Please help?

Take each of these steps that you haven't already tried. Stop when the problem is resolved.
To restart an unresponsive computer, press and hold the power button for a few seconds until the power shuts off, then release, wait a few more seconds, and press it again briefly.
    Step 1
The first step in dealing with a startup failure is to secure the data. If you want to preserve the contents of the startup drive, and you don't already have at least one current backup, you must try to back up now, before you do anything else. It may or may not be possible. If you don't care about the data that has changed since the last backup, you can skip this step.
There are several ways to back up a Mac that is unable to start. You need an external hard drive to hold the backup data.
    a. Start up from the Recovery partition, or from a local Time Machine backup volume (option key at startup.) When the OS X Utilities screen appears, launch Disk Utility and follow the instructions in this support article, under “Instructions for backing up to an external hard disk via Disk Utility.” The article refers to starting up from a DVD, but the procedure in Recovery mode is the same. You don't need a DVD if you're running OS X 10.7 or later.
    b. If Step 1a fails because of disk errors, and no other Mac is available, then you may be able to salvage some of your files by copying them in the Finder. If you already have an external drive with OS X installed, start up from it. Otherwise, if you have Internet access, follow the instructions on this page to prepare the external drive and install OS X on it. You'll use the Recovery installer, rather than downloading it from the App Store.
    c. If you have access to a working Mac, and both it and the non-working Mac have FireWire or Thunderbolt ports, start the non-working Mac in target disk mode. Use the working Mac to copy the data to another drive. This technique won't work with USB, Ethernet, Wi-Fi, or Bluetooth.
    d. If the internal drive of the non-working Mac is user-replaceable, remove it and mount it in an external enclosure or drive dock. Use another Mac to copy the data.
    Step 2
If the startup process stops at a blank gray screen with no Apple logo or spinning "daisy wheel," then the startup volume may be full. If you had previously seen warnings of low disk space, this is almost certainly the case. You might be able to start up in safe mode even though you can't start up normally. Otherwise, start up from an external drive, or else use the technique in Step 1b, 1c, or 1d to mount the internal drive and delete some files. According to Apple documentation, you need at least 9 GB of available space on the startup volume (as shown in the Finder Info window) for normal operation.
    Step 3
Sometimes a startup failure can be resolved by resetting the NVRAM.
    Step 4
If a desktop Mac hangs at a plain gray screen with a movable cursor, the keyboard may not be recognized. Press and hold the button on the side of an Apple wireless keyboard to make it discoverable. If need be, replace or recharge the batteries. If you're using a USB keyboard connected to a hub, connect it to a built-in port.
    Step 5
If there's a built-in optical drive, a disc may be stuck in it. Follow these instructions to eject it.
    Step 6
Press and hold the power button until the power shuts off. Disconnect all wired peripherals except those needed to start up, and remove all aftermarket expansion cards. Use a different keyboard and/or mouse, if those devices are wired. If you can start up now, one of the devices you disconnected, or a combination of them, is causing the problem. Finding out which one is a process of elimination.
    Step 7
If you've started from an external storage device, make sure that the internal startup volume is selected in the Startup Disk pane of System Preferences.
Start up in safe mode. Note: If FileVault is enabled in OS X 10.9 or earlier, or if a firmware password is set, or if the startup volume is a software RAID, you can’t do this. Post for further instructions.
Safe mode is much slower to start and run than normal, and some things won’t work at all, including wireless networking on certain Macs.
The login screen appears even if you usually log in automatically. You must know the login password in order to log in. If you’ve forgotten the password, you will need to reset it before you begin.
When you start up in safe mode, it's normal to see a dark gray progress bar on a light gray background. If the progress bar gets stuck for more than a few minutes, or if the system shuts down automatically while the progress bar is displayed, the startup volume is corrupt and the drive is probably malfunctioning. In that case, go to Step 11. If you ever have another problem with the drive, replace it immediately.
If you can start and log in in safe mode, empty the Trash, and then open the Finder Info window on the startup volume ("Macintosh HD," unless you gave it a different name.) Check that you have at least 9 GB of available space, as shown in the window. If you don't, copy as many files as necessary to another volume (not another folder on the same volume) and delete the originals. Deletion isn't complete until you empty the Trash again. Do this until the available space is more than 9 GB. Then restart as usual (i.e., not in safe mode.)
If the startup process hangs again, the problem is likely caused by a third-party system modification that you installed. Post for further instructions.
    Step 8
Launch Disk Utility in Recovery mode (see Step 1.) Select the startup volume, then run Repair Disk. If any problems are found, repeat until clear. If Disk Utility reports that the volume can't be repaired, the drive has malfunctioned and should be replaced. You might choose to tolerate one such malfunction in the life of the drive. In that case, erase the volume and restore from a backup. If the same thing ever happens again, replace the drive immediately.
This is one of the rare situations in which you should also run Repair Permissions, ignoring the false warnings it may produce. Look for the line "Permissions repair complete" at the end of the output. Then restart as usual.
    Step 9
If the startup device is an aftermarket SSD, it may need a firmware update and/or a forced "garbage collection." Instructions for doing this with a Crucial-branded SSD were posted here. Some of those instructions may apply to other brands of SSD, but you should check with the vendor's tech support.
    Step 10
Reinstall the OS. If the Mac was upgraded from an older version of OS X, you’ll need the Apple ID and password you used to upgrade.
    Step 11
Do as in Step 9, but this time erase the startup volume in Disk Utility before installing. The system should automatically restart into the Setup Assistant. Follow the prompts to transfer the data from a Time Machine or other backup.
    Step 12
This step applies only to models that have a logic-board ("PRAM") battery: all Mac Pro's and some others (not current models.) Both desktop and portable Macs used to have such a battery. The logic-board battery, if there is one, is separate from the main battery of a portable. A dead logic-board battery can cause a startup failure. Typically the failure will be preceded by loss of the settings for the startup disk and system clock. See the user manual for replacement instructions. You may have to take the machine to a service provider to have the battery replaced.
    Step 13
If you get this far, you're probably dealing with a hardware fault. Make a "Genius" appointment at an Apple Store, or go to another authorized service provider.
