Irregular Printing - Xerox Phaser 8560

I've had this Xerox Phaser 8560 for years and have been using it with Snow Leopard without issue.
Upon recent update to 10.6.3 (from 10.6.2) I am now having issues where one print will be fine, but then another separate print will just come out as data/numbers/multiple useless pages.
It's oddly inconsistent and it does not matter which program I am printing from.
I have removed/added the printer; completed restarts; checked printer firmware; reset printing system; etc... the usuals.
Anyone else having any 8560 issues?

OK. Here is something that works. So far. The last 30 minutes or so. Based on several long chats with Apple reps and all sorts of tries.
The short version is: Re-install Snow Leopard 10.6, and then go back to 10.6.2.
We’ve done it to two iMacs and it seems to be working. Note: 8560 connected via USB to one machine and “shared” with a second iMac.
How to:
First, turn off automatic updates. Apple>system preferences>software update.
That’s to keep you from automatically upgrading to 10.6.3 in the future until Xerox/Apple fix this problem.
Install Snow Leopard from CD. Check to see if it worked. On one of our machines we had to boot off the CD to get 10.6 to re-install. On the other machine we did not have to boot off the CD.
Lots of whirring and buzzing here…
Upgrade to 10.6.2.

Delete, then add back the 8560 printer: Apple>system preferences>print and fax> click printer, hit minus, delete, then add back. Not sure this in needed, but won't hurt.
You might need to flush the printer’s RAM as well. Can do that from the panel on the front of the printer. Not sure this make any difference, but can't hurt. We’ve also had a problem with printer taking itself offline, but don’t know if this is a related problem or not.
Thanks to Andrew at Apple support for reminding me how to boot off the CD.
Hope this works. Please remember I am not a Mac expert. Just a guy who’s trying to figure out this problem. You may want to talk to Apple yourself first before trying this.

  • HT3669 Xerox Phaser 8560 Driver - Apple Software Update Issue!

A long story that I'll attempt to condense.
I have a XeroxPhaser 8560 printer connected via ethernet and router to an iMac (OS X 10.7.5). It's worked perfectly for a couple of years but just recently I've been unable to print due to one of the following messages 'printer not responding', 'unable to find printer' or 'printer not connected'. The printer itself seemed OK (successful test prints on start-up) and I undertook network tests with the printer was easily found. After numerous restarts and reading troubleshooting guides the cause was a complete mystery to me.
I called Apple Support and the guy I spoke to was very helpful. We went through several proceedures with no success until he asked what driver was showing in System Preferences to which I stated 2.0.14. He was surprised as the manufacturers recommend driver was 2.0.13. Initally I thought that I must have downloaded the wrong version from Xerox or indeed Xerox updates were incorrect. First off I downloaded the correct 2.0.13 driver from the Xerox site. Deleted all printers/scanners from System Preferences (Print & Scan) and trashed the Xerox folder from Library>Printers.
After a restart I went back to System Preferences, found the printer on the network which not surprisingly generated a message 'printer software not found, do you want Apple to update this' (or words to that effect). Although I had already downloaded the driver I figured the Apple update might be a better option - wrong! The Apple update reinstalled 2.0.14 again and according to Apple's list of printer drivers this is their recommendation in complete contrast to Xerox's recommendation. Although I can't be 100% certain I'm pretty sure my problems started when I did an Apple Software update. If this is the case it amounts to Apple knocking out every Xerox 8560 model in the world as users run software update – quite a serious issue I suspect!
OK, so I go through the same proceedure again but use the driver I downloaded from Xerox with the same problem reoccurring. I'm sure I'm clearing out the old driver and I'm restarting iMac, printer and router. I'm at a loss as to what to try next so any suggestions would be welcome.
In the meantime if you own a Phaser 8560 I strongly suggest DO NOT USE APPLE PRINTER SOFTWARE UPDATE. I don't know about other Xerox models but after the frustration and many lost hours I've experienced I suggest 'if it ain't broke don't fix it!'.

  • Printing issues on network printer (Xerox Phaser 4500DT)

I need to be able to print to a network printer which is a Xerox Phaser 4500DT. It is simply networked from its IP address. I have the latest driver. Every time I try to print anything the job automatically goes on pause. If I click resume, it does print, but this takes time, every time I print. The URL is "pap://*/Phaser%204500DT/LaserWriter".
Any help would be greatly appreciated. Thanks.

Since upgrading to 10.5.6 I can no longer print multiple jobs to any of my Phaser 4500 machines(N/DT)? If the printer is clear, the job will spool and print.
If more than one job is sent or multiple users print at the same time, the local print queue is changed to 'PAUSE PRINTER' - I have tried printing via Appletalk, Bonjour & IP printing, the same problem occurs.
Why does 10.5.6 not allow you to spool and queue a print job any more? This is VERY frustrating in a busy office with multiple users attempting to print at the same time! - Any advice would be gratefully received!

  • Snow Leopard 10.6.4 and Xerox Phaser 8560

Ok, so I got the new trackpad, which to be useful, requires upgrading to 10.6.4. After I did, it worked great, problem, my printer stopped working correctly and would print irregular. This is a known issue going back to 10.6.3 back in April. I am running USB to the printer and due to my office configuration can't set it up for ethernet printing. Does anyone have a patch for this yet? I had to reload SL 10.6.2 so my printer would work, but of course I loose the functionality of my trackpad now. Xerox blames Apple, and Apple blames Xerox... and the wheel goes round...

I would get after Xerox to issue updated drivers.

  • Pages won't print in color on Xerox Phaser 6110

For some reason, I have to print as pdf, then use preview to print the pdf version if I want the document in color. If I try just going from pages to the phaser, I get a black and white document instead. I've been trying to find a setting in pages that might limit the color, but haven't found it. Does anyone know what I'm doing wrong?

For some reason, I have to print as pdf, then use preview to print the pdf version if I want the document in color. If I try just going from pages to the phaser, I get a black and white document instead. I've been trying to find a setting in pages that might limit the color, but haven't found it.
In principle, if the imports colour photographs and creates colour page geometries in Apple Pages, then these objects will be colour managed to the digital graphic display, the digital graphic printer, and the digital graphic press. The colours will match provided the digital graphic devices have correct ICC colour space profiles and provided the conversions are configured correctly.
A digital graphic device that is capable of colour can be addressed in 1 bit (off/on without tone), grayscale (tone) and colour. How a digital graphic device is addressed cannot be defined by Apple Pages, it is defined at the device driver or at the device interface whether as a colour managed or colour blind command.
Apparently, the Xerox device driver is addressed differently depending on whether Apple Preview is rendering PDF or Apple Pages is rendering. If you can't find any setting in the Xerox device driver to change from grayscale to colour, the simplest solution is simply to save out PDF from Pages and print from Preview probably until OS X 10.6 is out.
To check the settings for the Xerox device driver, one place you might have a look is Print > Printer: (Xerox Phaser), Presets: (check that there is no preset for grayscale), scroll from Copies & Pages down to check ColorSync and also check if any application features and printer features that are able to affect a conversion to grayscale.
    Hope this helps.

  • Xerox Phaser 6110 Not working after lion

I've updated to Lion but i now cannot print on my networked Xerox Phaser 6100 printer. I know that previously i had to have rosetta installed as per the instuctions on Xerox website and everything worked fine. It's just since the update that it has stopped working. The print jonb goes into the queue as normal and just sits there without being printed. If i click on resume i get a message saying "/Library/Printers/Xerox/Phaser6110/rastertoxrx failed".
    Any ideas please?

I have the xerox phaser 8560:
    I also installed Lion at work here;
everything was working fine with the 1.2 driver under snow leopard.
After the lion install, pressing the print button didnt do anything (paused).
I then downloaded and installed the new xerox lion driver (2.09) which at the end of the installation process asks me to locate my printer which i did using its IP address.
Now, trying to print, it doesnt pause anymore, the print job does proceed to the queue, but i get the error 'printer out of ink', which is definately not the case as it printed fine under snow leopard.
Anyone know a solution/workaround for this?
    Thanks in advance!!!

  • Xerox Phaser 4400 in Yosemite

I have a workhorse Duplex Laser Printer (Xerox Phaser 4400N). It's now more than 10 years old, but suddenly I cannot get it to print from the Mac OS. I'm not sure whether this began with my update to Yosemite; I think I've printed a few things from Yosemite to it, but I'm not certain.
Xerox no longer provides drivers. I've tried using the Gutenprint CUPS driver. There is one labeled Xerox Phaser 4400N, and it can communicate with the printer (shows the toner cartridge capacity), but I cannot print even the test page from the Mac (the Print window says it's composed 67% of the page, but doesn't ever proceed to print anything.
I tried using a different Xerox (Phaser 4600) driver; that driver can communicate with the Printer but times out with an error (red status LED on the printer, after which the printer returns to "ready to print" with Green LED on the printer and no message returned to the Mac. I assume this is because the two printers are sufficiently different that the drivers aren't compatible.
The printer itself is fine: it prints all its test pages from the Printers internal setup firmware. I've just discovered that I can describe it as a Windows Printer in the Printers & Scanners Prefs Panel and print to it so long as my Win 7 virtual machine is running!
Is the Printer itself just not compatible with any drivers that work natively in Yosemite?

    Folksong wrote:
Your best choice is to download the ppd for your printer from the OpenPrinting site.  Put the ppd file in the /Library/Printers/PPDs/Contents/Resources/ directory at the root of your hard drive.  This ppd is actually supplied by Xerox.  That is all you need.  You don't need any other software from OpenPrinting, Gutenprint, or Xerox.
Thanks for your very helpful suggestion (even including a link to the needed ppd file!
Unfortunately, it only almost worked. I placed the file in the location you suggested, went to the Printers and Scanners pane in System Preferences, added an IPP printer, and the Phaser 4400N popped up in the "Select Software" list, displaying the correct printer icon, the correct installed RAM, and the correct hardware options list. Just like old times
However, when I attempted to print a test page from the Mac, the dialog box reported "Printing", then "Connected to Printer" but the job didn't complete. Watching the LED on the printer when I tried this a second time, I noticed that it flashed red, then amber, and as it did so the printer went through a "Power On Self Test" before returning to a green LED and the default monitor window message saying "Ready to Print."
I know the Printer is OK, because:
I can print to it from Win 7
I can even print to it from my Mac Yosemite OS if I add the printer as a "Windows Printer", but then I need to log in to my main user account on my Windows VM (VMware Fusion 7.1.0), but that only works while the VM is running!
I tried reseting the Printing System on the Mac (control-click in the Printers List in the Printers and Scanners Sys Prefs pane, select "reset printing system", add the printer again. Same behavior.
I know the Mac OS is communicating with the printer (I can ping it, various network utilities "find" it, I can't add the printer if it's powered down, and it correctly reports the status of the fuser and toner cartridge). However, each job that doesn't print generates an "Unable to get printer status" message in the Console log, and  a "Stopping unresponsive job" message if I delete the job from the Printing queue.
I had assumed that the Gutenprint drivers didn't work because of some incompatibility with Yosemite, and I'm guessing now that is indeed the case, because so long as I route my print jobs through my Win 7 VM I can print complex pdfs, formatted Word docs, even color jpgs (converted to grayscale by the printing system, of course) from my Mac with the Gutenprint driver selected. So, the printer is not a doorstop, but opening a 60 GB file (my VM) just to print a one page document is a pretty hefty bit of leveraging
I know that Apple doesn't support third party hardware, but I'm sure they have people in support who know about such things. Xerox does make a point of saying that the printer is not supported beyond OS X 10.6 because of some security changes introduced with the Mac OS 10.7 and later. Of course, the weird thing is that I KNOW I've been able to print to the printer through Lion, Mountain Lion, and Mavericks, so that's not the whole answer, either.
    Any other thoughts?
Again, thanks so much for your very helpful suggestion.

  • Photoshop CS5: error when printing to Xerox Phaser 7750

    Mac 10.6.5
I get the following error when I print directly to my Xerox Phaser 7750 from Photoshop CS5:
    "Error: /Library/Printers/Xerox/Filters/pstophaserps failed"
All the other CS5 apps (plus Photoshop CS4) have no trouble printing.
Thanks in advance for any assistance.

Something doesn't add up since PS CS4 works ok. What's different about CS5? 64bit?
My guess would be that Photoshop is the only app you use that prints PostScript through the Cocoa drivers, and thus the only one hitting that particular part of the driver software.

  • Xerox Phaser 8860 on Network-How to turn off popup print job confirmations?

I recently upgraded to OS 10.6.4 and as expected I needed to reinstall the drivers for a few peripherals. One of which was the Xerox Phaser 8860 which is on the network. Everything works, but now after each print job prints out a window pops up in the center of the screen notifying me that ::Job### has printed on Xerox Phaser 8860::. It causes no serious problems, but it does knock me out of what ever program I am using. Which can get extremely annoying when I'm drawing and I repeatedly get halted mid (pen/brush) stroke. It stays up on the screen for about a minute and a few times it has remained up. There is an option to close, it simply gets really annoying after the 30th time. Common sense would suggest to not draw while a file is on it's way to the printer, but my work day is a constant flow of drawing, printing, color tests and editing. It's not practical or good for deadlines to stop drawing to wait for a print job to come out and the pop up window to go away.
I tested printing from the other computers, which are PC's using various versions of windows and they all come up with the same pop up window (though theirs come up at the bottom right of the screen). They do not receive confirmation windows from the other printers not on the network.
This suggested to me that this was a setting with the Xerox software. However, I spoke to the technical support for Xerox and they said that the pop up window had nothing to do with their software and claim that it had to be generated by the Mac OS 10.6.4.
I am regularly printing from the following programs:
Photoshop, InDesign, Illustrator, Adobe Acrobat, Word, and Excel. The pop out window has acquired while printing files from all of these programs. I doubt that has any relation but I thought I'd add it, just in case.
I would very much like to know how to turn this confirmation notification off in OS 10.6.4. Or if anyone has an thoughts on what software could be the culprit.

In CWIS go to Properties > General > Printer Defaults and disable the Startup page  As for garbage prints, That sounds like a PS error. And they are almost always due to improperly embedded fonts. Have all your users switch the following in their drivers (Picture is the global driver, but the regular driver will have the same option.) Essentially by default the printer uses its own locally stored fonts on the jobs, but when the fonts are misunderstood, or unknown it winds up printing wingdings.

  • HAVING PROBLEMS WITH OS 10.6.8 PRINTING WITH XEROX PHASER.  MacPro crashes when printer warms up. Does anyone have a solution? 6360 DN

I've been using Macs since 1984.  Have been using Xerox Phaser printers for ten years.  But with the last update to OS 10.6.8 last summer, I've had problems with crashing when printing.  My MacPro crashes when printing via ethernet prot with Xerox Phaser 6360DN or when the printer warms up.  Worked fine with OS 10.6.7.  Internet postings suggest this is a common problem for all Mac users with Xerox Phaser printers.  Apple put out an update to 10.6.8 to address the problem.  I downloaded it but it did not solve the problem.  Have tried all the Xerox drivers along with Apple drivers.  Can't solve the problem.  Xerox says it's an Apple problem.  Does anyone KNOW how to solve the problem?

sorry, just saw that i was accidently in the snow leopard section....i reposted under the correct section. here's the link.
