Is Bandwidth monitoring possible?

Hi,
I wanted to monitor my internet usage. Is it possible to build a bandwidth monitoring application using ActionScript 3.0 (with AIR + Flex).
Aim:
Get total downloads and uploads going via ethernet.
(If possible display the list of ethernet cards and wifi cards and the user can select the one needed to be monitored).
Also get the time of connection.
+(optional)
Automatically monitor if any transfers goes any ethernet or the ethernet after selecting the specific one thereafter.Any resources or any ideas regarding the above.
Thanks.

Dear Siva,
we did nearly the same in LV 4.0 times where the G Webserver was not integrated into LV. The only difference is that we used a java applet instead of javascript. It was running fine with Netscape 3 and Internet Explorer 4 on Win NT 4 machines.

  • Inserting a Flash video and the Bandwidth Monitor

I am new to Captivate, and I want to be sure I'm following
some practical guidelines for inserting Flash video in my Captivate
    slides.
I know there are quite a few variables relating to practical
bandwidth usage--basically, we are creating elearning presenations
that will have "talking head" videos embedded within. These
presentations will be available for download via our LMS site, both
    within the US and overseas.
I have utilized Captivate's Bandwidth Monitor to gauge the
bandwidth hit each video slide is responsible for. However, I don't
believe the numbers I'm getting back: because I've set each
embedded video to "Pause slide till end of video", all the slides
are reporting the same length in seconds, KB per sec and Video KB
    numbers.
Can someone suggest a practical method for setting up the
videos such that the Bandwidth Monitor can interpret them
correctly? Can you also suggest a rule of thumb for maximum length
for each slide with an embedded video (320 X 240) in it?
    Thanks in advance,
    Carl

  • MIB Required for Bandwidth Monitoring on Cisco 3800 and 3900 series Routers

    Hi Team,
    Need your help here.
I am planning to do Bandwidth Monitoring on Cisco 3800 and 3900 series Routers. I want to know the exact MIB which I need to use for getting this done.
    Thanks,

  • Server bandwidth-monitoring

so..right now, I'm using ntop (http://twilightlair.net:5000) as my bandwidth-monitor for my server. The two problems I have are that:
    1. When looking at traffic summaries, it lists specific hosts with how much traffic they've sent/recv'd. instead of the destinations they're going to (i.e. which subdomains and whatnot.) It does say what subdomains they've gone to when you look at detailed info but that doesn't help much if there all a million hosts to sift through.
    2. Almost half my traffic is just listed as "Other TCP/UDP Ports." The only way I see to get port-info is the "last minute distribution" on the bottom of the main page, not a monthly summary or something of the like.
    any ideas?

I'm not a big fan of ntop for the same reason.  I'm currently evaluating bandwidth monitoring tools to see which best fits my needs.  There's a great listing of bandwidth monitoring tools for linux, along with a short description on this page: http://www.ubuntugeek.com/bandwidth-mon … linux.html  I've learned of a handful of tools I didn't know about that I'll be experimenting with.
My needs are slightly different than yours, however.  I need to take bandwidth measurements throughout the day at sample intervals and record the results into a log file or csv.  I'll combine this with a script I wrote to upload a large file during the bandwidth test.  I need to know the maximum upload rate in order to dynamically adjust my traffic shaping parameters.
Let me know which tools you end up using.

  • Ea4500 and bandwidth monitoring

    Hi.
I have a ea4500 router with 3 pc's, 4 iphones, 2 playstations, ipad, ps vita, house cat, and a printer all wired into the internet.  There are four of us in the family all using the internet but I suspect one of us is using considerably more than the other.  I live in the country and my current isp has us on the max available account - 50 gigs / month.  Lately we have been hitting 45 in less than 3 weeks into the month.  I would like to know which of the things connected or which person is using the most of the bandwidth up.  Is there a program that doesn't require a phd in quantum physics and networking that can monitor this for me and spit out a report on who or what is the hog here?

Bandwidth monitor does not come handy with this device. However, you can dig a little deeper through Google to find third party software that could monitor bandwidth consumption for every device inside the network. I found one that monitors the bandwidth consumption of each application installed on my computer. This one only monitors one computer not the network. You might be able to find a network monitor if you dig a little dipper through the net.

  • Bandwidth monitoring on a Catalyst 2960

Hello all, I'm working with two Catalyst 2960 switches and I would like to know if there is a way to monitor bandwidth on individual ports. Ideally I would like to have one graph showing a bandwidth usage reading on each port. I tried using the Network Assistant to accomplish this, but I was only able to view one port at a time. I also tried using a traffic graphing program from Paessler, but a MIB file is needed to allow the program to connect to the switch. When I ran a search on the network management page the 2960 was not on the list for MIB supported products. Is this type of graph possible to do? Or is there a more effective way to accomplish what I would like to do. Any ideas or suggestions would be helpful.

Hi, we have just swapped all our avaya switches with catalyst 2960 (12, 24 and 48 ports) and 3750 (48 ports with 10gig module).
How do I find what port I should monitor for bandwith graphs?

  • Bandwidth monitoring by Protocol

I am trying to find a way to monitor bandwidth usage by protocol on each of my client machines.  This will give me info on any offending applications/services causing high bandwidth utilization.  It sounds like the 2960s I have do not support netflow, so that might be out of the question trying to get that info from the switch. I could possibly use port mirroring, but can't find any software that could help track usage by ip and protocol. If you have any ideas, please let me know.
Thanks for the help in advance.

I have my 2960s paired to a Cisco isa570, not sure if that supports netflow, doubtful.  We will be moving away from the ISA570 at some point, it is feature rich, but lacks enterprise support and functionality.  Let me know if you think there is anything else I may be able to do.  Even if it involves snmp on the workstations that would be fine too.  Thanks for the response!

  • WAN bandwidth monitor?

Does anyone know a way to monitor the WAN traffic on a network? My ISP caps me at a certain amount of GB a month (up/down) and I'd like to monitor it on my end if possible? I realize this might be more a router thing though since we're talking monitoring the network of more than one machine...

  • Dual monitor possible on G3 Beige 300?

I would like to be able to use a dual monitor set up, one for all my menus, and the other for workspace in each program. I am running OS 9.2 now but will be upgrading to OS X shortly after the holidays. Is this possible? What kind of hardware/software would I need. I already have 2 monitors, both 15 pin traditional PC monitors, one already being used by the G3. Any help would be great.

The Mac has been able to support multiple monitors arranged into an "Extended desktop" since the Mac-II days. Every well-behaved Mac Application can be used with it, and the monitors can be completely different and it still works great. The left half of a window can be shown on the left screen in 32-bit color, the right half can be on the right screen in Black-and-White. When you scroll it, they move together. There is no additional software needed.
Each display needs a Video card for its screen buffer. There is one built into the Beige G3 motherboard. Its 2 MB VRAM standard can be expanded to 6 MB VRAM. The built-in had a "two-row" connector -- you need a VGA adapter or Multiple Scan adapter to change to three-row "VGA" connector AND provide the right code so that the right resolutions can be supported.
Additional display adapters can be plugged into an available PCI slot. Mac-specific ATI cards with 16 MB VRAM or more and VGA connector are popular, and well-supported into Mac OS X. Allan Jones recommended a list on a post nearby:

  • Using Macbook AS a monitor, possible?

Currently I have a dual 1.8 G5 without a monitor, and a working Macbook 2GHz. What I'm wondering is... is there any way for me to use the laptop as a monitor for my desktop? Optimally I'd like to be able to use the keyboard and mouse on my laptop as well, but I'd settle for just the display. I've tried Googling it, and found that it really isn't possible from a PC... but I'm hoping there's a way with Macs!
Any information would be greatly appreciated.

No, there is no video in only video out.

  • Automagically configuration of external monitor - Possible?

I use my laptop for everything, except server stuff. In the office I have an external monitor I like to use in stead of the laptop screen. Now, using Gnome I have to enable the external monitor, and disable the laptop screen before this works. Is it possible to do this a bit more automagically each time I connect it? Does not need to be gnome specific if there are other ways.
    Cheers

Noble wrote:I'm using the intel driver, if that helps.
On a eeepc with the Intel driver I have on my startup script:
    CRT=`xrandr | grep "VGA1 connected"`
    if [ "x${CRT}x" != "xx" ]; then
xrandr --output LVDS1 --off --output VGA1 --mode 1680x1050 --pos 0x0 --rotate normal
    fi
You will have to find out what is the xrandr output at your system.
This works if the monitor is (or is not) connected, it doesn't try to handle 'hot' connections.

  • Connect to separate large monitor possibility

I have the PowerBook G4. Is it possible for me to connect to a separate lrg flat screen monitor? If so what do I need for the connection, and does it have to be an apple monitor, or any suggestions of the best ones to look at. Or do I have to just save and buy the I-Mac.

Your Powerbook can drive an external monitor, and it doesn't have to be an Apple monitor. The maximum resolution supported on the external monitor depends on which Powerbook model you have, but all 17" models can support at least 2048 x 1536. The physical dimensions of the screen don't matter; it's the resolution that does. Whatever monitor you use, you will want to run it at its native (maximum) resolution, so that shouldn't exceed 2048 x 1536 pixels unless your Powerbook has a 1.67GHz processor (in which case it supports up to 2560 x 1600.

  • Are 2 external Mointors + Laptop Monitor possible?

    Hi guys!
THe question is for the old T61 series and for the T510 series cause we have both in usage.
I want to connect two external monitors to my laptop which is on a docking station.
Because there is a VGA and a DVI Port I have connected both to the docking station, my Windows 7 32bit is recognizing both when iam looking on the screen resolution.
But i can´t extend or duplicate my desktop to both of them at once.
So my question is if its even possible to have 2 external monitors with the laptop montitor running simultaneously?
I hope you can help me
    Bes Regards

yes, but you would need a USB2DVI or USB2VGA adapter, if you need more performance, then you could go with.
    1. Advanced dock and add an additional graphics card to support 2 additional monitor, to get 4 external monitors.
    2. Get DIY Vidock or Vidock, and a desktop grade graphics card, if you get a ATI 5870 Eyefinity edition, then you can get another 6 external monitors support, for a total of 8 monitors.
But in your current setup, you can only support 2 monitors, they can be either 1 internal + 1 external or 2 external.

  • Network and Bandwidth Monitor Suggestion?

I was wondering if anyone had a suggestion for a network monitor application that runs well on Leopard Server. I would hope it could provide statistics on different ethernet interfaces as well as filter down to ip addresses. I've used Network Monitor (but it doesn't seem to filter down to monitoring ip addresses) and ntop but I don't know if runs on Leopard. It would be used to check for bottlenecks as well as monitor bandwidth usage for individual ip's. Thanks for any suggestions.

Solarwinds is one of the best tools our clients purchased for pinpointing issues on their LAN. All too often a tech points to the network as a problem, only to find through Solarwinds that the problem is related to CPU or memory or disk space, etc. Solarwinds is easy to use and the amount of time and trouble it saved payed for itself many times over in a very short amount of time.
