Is charging my iPhone 6 plus overnight bad for my batteries "lifespan"

The iPhone has a very smart charger built into the phone. The thing that plugs in to the wall is not a charger; it is just a power source. Likewise, the Lightning cable is not a charger; it is wires plus a digital to analog converter built into the plug. The charger itself is inside the phone, and it will not allow the battery to be overcharged. It stops charging when the battery reaches 1000%. So the best way to manage your battery is to charge it overnight, every night. Whether you think it needs charging or not. That way it will always start the day with a full charge.

  • Is charging a iPhone 5 overnight bad

I'm just wondering. I've been charging my iPhone over night for like 2 weeks and I was just wondering if that harms the battery. Also, should I use the battery fully until it drains to zero, or plug it in before it discharges? Thanks.

You cannot Overcharge the iPhone... Not necessary to fully Discharge the battery... You can charge it whenever is convenient for you.
This is what Apple has to say  >  http://www.apple.com/batteries/iphone.html

  • I forgot my ipad on charge after 100%,is this bad for ipad battery?

I forgot my ipad on charge after 100%,is this bad for ipad battery?

Once the battery was fully charged, the smart circuitry stops charging the battery.  Power is then used just for running the device, and the charging circuits will not cut back in until the battery has spontaneously drifted down by 5%-10% of a full charge (which should take days with a normal, healthy battery).
You cannot over charge any Apple device.

  • Is it bad to charge my iphone over a 100% for an 1hour?

So I plugged my phone in to charge but totally forgot to check how much it was charged to  after a couple hours I look and it's 100%
Is it bad to charge your iPhone over a 100% this is my first time ever doing it and I have a iPhone 5s?

You can and should charge as often and as long as possible... deep discharges are hard on lithium batteries.  Normal mobile use will usually result in the one charge cycle/month that Apple recommends although it's OK to fully discharge and then recharge to 100% every once in a while to recalibrate the battery meter.
Also, you cannot overcharge the device, thus you can leave it plugged in as long as you like.

  • Should I charge my iphone 5S overnight?

I've heard mixed opinions and was wondering if I should leave my iphone on charge overnight and if it will affect my battery life.

It only costs somewhere near .50 cents a year to charge your phone... (see link)

Apple designed the iPhone to handle all sorts of charging events.
Overcharging? Not possible (otherwise the phones would explode every day)
Will it damage the battery to be on AC power for days?
    No
Why is my iPhone hot while being charged?
When using the iPhone + charger (usually in the car) due to the heavy demand of the screen + GPS + data connection all going at the same time, there is a significant spike in processing/heat generated from that.
Once again, Apple has designed the phone to handle it.
If you don't feel comfortable charging a hot phone, let it cool down (which is wise anyways)
Lastly the iPhone is fully charged at 98-100% it will shut off the charging circuit and then run on AC power, (that is what the plug symbol means)

  • Is charging in dock every night bad for the battery?

I am getting an iPhone 4 in a few days and was planning on getting an iHome dock to use as an alarm clock for college and work and things. If i plug it into the dock every night to use as alarm clock will it lessen the battery life?

No. When in a dock it is running on the charger and does not use the battery. See:

  • Using a power bank good or bad for iphone battery lifespan?

I currently use iphone 5, i see many aid product made now such as power bank,
but a question comes in my mind , is that good or bad for our battery lifespan?

Are you referring to cases with battery packs in them?
If so, most have a switch to turn the battery in the case on or off.
Having the iPhone or any phone in a battery case is neither good or bad.  It is merely a way to extend the "life" of the device between charges without the need to physically plug the device in as there is always the extra battery onboard.

  • Is it ok to charge your iphone overnight?

Hi. So I charge my iphone 5 overnight. I was wondering if overcharging it could harm the iPhones battery. Please answer :)

You cannot overcharge it. The phone will only charge as long as it needs to. I connect mine every night so it is nice and fresh in the morning with a full charge.

  • Can you use the iPod connector cable to charge the iPhone or

only the cable that came with the iPod?
Also, I put the iPhone briefly into my old inMotion speakers and a message
came up saying that the device didn't support an iPhone and would either not
charge my iPhone or have bad consequences for my iPhone-i wasn't sure-it did
    work in the speakers tho.

I use an iPod connector almost all the time and have never had a problem, even after market iPod connectors, but you'll get a different response depending on who you talk to. The guy at the Genius Bar told me yes, but phone support said no. Short answer...You should be able to use the iPod connector.
When you plug the iPhone into some 3rd party devices, you'll get a message stating "not compatible with iPhone" but that is because you are going to get interference because of the cell signal. You can put it into Airplane mode to avoid the interference or just deal with the interference and just click OK. That being said, I have read other posts where these devices do cause damage to the iPhone so proceed at your own risk.

  • Charging problem Iphone 4

When I charge my Iphone 4 overnight for about 7 hours it says it is fully charged at 92% battery. What is the problem? The phone is up date to with firmware and such

Try resetting your iPhone by pressing and holding the sleep and home buttons at the same time until the Apple symbol appears (ignore the slide to turn off).  This can take several seconds to reset.
If that doesn't work, run the battery down until your iPhone turns itself off, then give it a full recharge.

  • Charging your Droid MAXX - overnight charge versus not?

Can anyone settle a debate over the best charging practices for Droid MAXX? The salesperson strongly advised me to "never" leave the phone charging overnight. He said this will drain the battery over time because the new batteries have a set number of charging hours. However, the tips that are being delivered directly to my new Droid MAXX explicitly state to leave the phone charging overnight  to get the best battery life during the day. Which charging method is best to get the most out of my battery over the duration of my two-year contract?

I also have a new Droid Maxx. After MUCH reading on this matter, I have downloaded a free app called Battery Full Notification. It will beep or whatever sound you select when the battery has reached 100%. That's ALL this app does. I read in many forums that it is bad for these batteries to be left on the charger after full. I put mine on the charger beside my bed when I go to sleep(plug in - NOT WIRELESS...those chargers generate alot of heat which also damages the battery) . I leave the phone turned on since it is also my alarm clock. When it beeps, I unplug from the charger and go back to sleep. In the morning, I turn the phone off and restart to clear any "gunk". I start the day with 97 or so % battery and usually finish with around 40%. I have gone two days just to see if it would....but with my normal, moderate use it is comfortable to not run out of juice before lunch like I did with my old Thunderbolt. I also read that half or partial charges are best for longterm battery life than draining completely and charging to full. Hope this helps. And enjoy your new Maxx.....I SURE AM!!

  • Is using a 12 volt charger bad for my iPhone 5?

Is using a 12 volt charger bad for my iPhone 5?  I just purchased the iPad Air and it came with the same lightning cable that was included with my iPhone 5.  The only difference is that the charger that came with my iPhone is a 10 volt and the one that came with my iPad Air is a 12 volt.  I find it would be easier if I could just use one cable instead of two, but I'm afraid that the12 volt charger would mess up my iPhone.  Can anyone help answer this question?

There is no problem using the iPad charger with the iPhone. I've been doing it for years because it's just easier. The iPhone will stop charging when it reaches capacity. If you look at the Apple Online Store, you'll see that the 12-volt charger they sell is listed as working for both iPhones and iPads.
    Best of luck.

  • When/how to charge the iPhone for optimal battery life?

I have an iPhone 3G 8GB. I was just wondering what the best way to go about charging the iPhone is, in order to optimise the battery life?
Should you wait until the iPhone is really flat/ low battery and then charge it up full, or are smaller and more frequent 'shallow' charges healthier?
I also heard somewhere that every couple of months or so it is a good idea to let the battery run completely dead and then charge it up, in order to calibrate it or something... but that doing this too often could be detrimental.
Any help/ advice would be greatly appreciated! I don't know if I should let my iPhone run really low before charging it or if smaller more frequent chargers are the way to go.
    Thanks!

Thanks! I did read over that and have taken the steps mentioned and fiddled around with settings of my phone to optimise use. I was just wondering if anyone else had anything else to add about charging habits specifically and what works best... I think mainly I'm just being paranoid about my phone dying prematurely since it's the first time I've owned such an expensive gadget!
Also, can you overcharge it? Is it bad to leave it on the charger overnight? I've done some searching in other threads/ webpages and there seems to be some discrepancies but for the most part people seem to think that it will be fine?

  • Is it bad to charge my iphone all night?

They have told me that is bad to leave the iphone charging all night cause it can be bad for the battery.

"They" are wrong.  The iPhone will stop charging when full and leaving it plugged in overnight won't hurt it.
