Hyperlinks - how to create a hot spot link?

I would like to link to a new page from a button at the footer area only.
This would not have a main menu level link.
So where would I add the page in the site plan?
Would I add a page to a 2nd tier and hide the name?

You can add the page as top level page. When you're creating it in Plan mode, right-click the page thumbail and click Menu Options -> Exclude Page From Menus. This will make the page not appear in the main level menu link. You can call the hyperlink by selecting the object you want to have the hyperlink then clicking the drop down in the Control Strip where it says Enter Link. Select the page you would like to link to.
As for the footer link, I suggest using real text and applying the hyperlink to that by selecting the text frame and typing in the link. If you still want to use a hotspot, you can create a rectangle over the area you would like to link. Edit the rectangle to have no stroke and a 1% opaque (probably white) fill, then you will be able to use the link feature for that area. The biggest worry for creating a hot spot is that it may not line up correctly in all browsers as the page reflows, and depending on the rectangle's fill the link may not work properly in IE.

How to create a hot spot for a browser filled image?

I have a background image created in Photoshop in the browser fill, scale to fill.
This is my landing page and would like to create a hot spot or "invisible" rectangle to link to another page in my site when clicked.
I have this done and working, however, my problem is that when my browser size is enlarged or reduced, the spot where I want the hot spot to be changes in size and location.
I want to create a hot spot that will keep its form around my logo no matter the screen size.
I have tried this with a no fill box and white stroke to see how it reacts with each fill property but cannot figure out how to create a box to be in a fixed position that will always match up
with the browser fill image location and size.

Have you tried to pin the box on page so that it should be in fixed position ?
Also if want the box to be on some specific position with page scroll, then you can try applying scroll effects which would scroll the box on page but within defined positions.

I called Verizon today......stopped in to the store today......My neighbor told me they waved charges for her one time. Lots of charges.....But I'm am getting no help. Not even an offer of a payment plan to help me out. I went back just 6 months and I have over paid for 19G.....Seems like they would like to help out their loyal customers!!!! Does anybody have any suggestions on how to deal with them? We are not wealthy....or I would just pay this and walk away......

There is a big misconception in what customers believe a cell carrier is obligated to do.
You pay a set price to use up to that amount of xx data. It makes no difference if you use it to the paid limit or way under. Its like peace of mind when you don't have to worry about a data counter.
Your daughter used the data, your plan is quite clear of what overage charges are. Why should or would Verizon wireless just forgive the charges because you are a customer? Your daughter used the data, get the money from her. That is the responsible thing to do.
There is no "I have been a loyal customer so please remove the $120, or $250, or $2,000.00 since I did not mean to use it"
Your electric company, or gas company or any other company does not remove valid charges. Why should Verizon wireless?
Just pay the invoice and don't think you are being mistreated because Verizon is a business and not a charity.

Yes but only if your AirPort Express (AX) uses WDS to wirelessly join a network.
If your wireless network is created by another AX or an AirPort Extreme base station (AEBS) it shouldn't be a problem.
If your wireless network is created by any other product, it probably won't work since most 3rd party devices are not compatible with Apple's WDS.

What model and firmware is the 2TB TC?
What firmware is the AE?
Does the AE get good signal from the TC in its current location?
Signal can only be extended that is received intact.
Is it extending on 5ghz? As I remember it a Gen2 AE is only single band, although you can choose either 2.4ghz or 5ghz.
I am fairly sure you are going to tell me your TC is AC model..
I would do a couple of things..
1. Fix the wireless name, make it short, no spaces and pure alphanumeric.
2. Fix the wireless channel for 2.4ghz so it is not going to jump around.
3. Get real results from the AE in its current location for signal strength.. this is really only possible on v5 utility. And that is a double pain with Mavericks because you cannot use it.
Apple have removed all the useful diagnostics from the airport utility. There is next to nothing left. So you need to use the computer and its diagnostics to find signal levels in the location.

How to set up TimeCapsule (4th) to create own private (wired) network behind Airport Express (5th) that is set up to join existing wifi-network of fritz adsl modem/router?

I work in an office building with free Wifi to connect to the Internet. I want to be able to use this internetconnection, but at the same time I want to shield of my own wired network.
I've made the following configuration:
- fritz adsl modem / router
- Airport Extreme (5th gen) set up to join existing wireless network (green light, works)
- Lan-cable from lan-port AE to wan-port TC (4th gen)
- Lan-cable from TC to Mac
- Lan-cable from TC to Printer
When I set my TC (network-settings) in bridge-mode everything works fine, but my Mac and Printer get an IP-address from the fritz modem / router and are visible to others.
I tried to set TC in NAT/DHCP-mode, but then I get the error message that I should set a static IP-adress for TC. When I set TC in DHCP-mode, it looses connection to the AE. I'm not sure what to do now. Does anyone know how to set up my TC and create my own private network and still be able to get on the internet?

You are using free internet.. so there is a price to pay.. that is convenience and non-ideal network setup.
The better alternative is to pay for your own connection. Then you are completely free of the possibility of others in the bullding seeing your connection. (as long as you secure the wireless).
But I think you are probably over worrying about public wifi.. if it is setup right.. ask the building admins.. it should be setup so each user cannot see another users connection. This is typical for most wifi setup and simply means you can see internet connection but nobody else on the connection. ie other wireless users.
Having a router with NAT makes it then more secure again and allows clients on your own network to interact with each other. But you can setup wireless to the free wifi for every client.. (depending on how many IP you are allowed).. and run a secondary network without internet access. This is easy for desktop etc where you have a wireless and a wired connection but less convenient for mobile devices.. unless you use a cloud connection and each client can link and share via that.
Have I made the explanation worse??
Think of it this way.. if you had 3 laptops.. all 3 could connect to the internet from the building wifi.. but they cannot talk to each other or share resources in local office. You can put resources out in the cloud, that can be shared.. but that adds traffic and most free services are not fast.
Now you can also plug all three into Time Capsule by ethernet.. and share local resources. Files, printers backup etc. This network is not connected to the internet at all. Each laptop has internet via free wifi and local connection.
For devices like iphones that have no ethernet or other method.. you could use local wireless and public wireless.. but in turns.. still the only advantage is less issues with double NAT.. if that causes problems.. then this is an alternative.

I'm about to purchase my second external hard drive for backups and I was wondering if it is safe/plausable/possible to plug a usb hub into the USB port of the Airport Express to connect my two hard drives (and maybe a printer) to connect all three of these devices to my local network? Unfortunately, the AirPort Express will not support a hard drive connected to its USB port. Only compatible printers are supported.
So, while you could connect a powered USB hub to the AirPort Express, it would only function correctly with multiple printers.
To support a hard drive, you would need an AirPort Extreme.

I use 2 airport express devices (an old and a new model) in our home. At night, I want to turn the wireless network off. In the morning, off course, I want to turn the wifi back on. For several reasons I want to do this from a linux machine.
Is it possible to do this? Is there an API or telnet access to the airport express devices to get this done?

Creating and Extended Network with 2 Airport Express Units

I had an extended network using 2 express units but one of them broke. The old network was setup with an older version of Airport Utility and I can't seem to repeat the set up a new network with the new express unit I have bought.
The simple setup procedure using Airport Utility 5.5.1 only appears to allow you to 'join' the remote Express unit to an existing network, there is no 'extend remotely' option.
I remember doing it last time by creating a WDS network which agrees with instructions I have found here - http://broadcast.oreilly.com/2009/03/taming-an-airport-express-wds.html
I set up the first Express as a base station with a network and select 'Participate in a WDS network' and 'Allow this network to be extended' under the wireless tab. Under the WDS tab I 'Allow wireless clients' and add the hardware address of the second express unit.
I then update the express unit but I get a WDS error which states, "This Airport wireless device is set up as part of a WDS network but no other AirPort wireless devices were found."
This seems to be a chicken and egg situation.
Any help would be appreciated.

But, I can't figure out whether you want to configure it with a "base" and two "remotes", or whether you want to configure it with a "base", "relay" and "remote"

How can I create an ftp site when using Airport Express?

I am very new to computers and have never used a Mac before. I'd like to create an FTP connection with a friend in another city to get large files transfered. I've followed the instructions in the Sharing pane but my friend still isn't able to get through. I'm assuming it's because there is a firewall in the Airport express and I need to create a port to get the files through. Can anyone help with this? I seem to be having trouble creating an address that works. I also seem to have a non-static IP address since it changes each time I check it.

Possible to connect hub or bridge out from Airport Express?

Sorry if this is redundant; I've looked for a post like this but not specifically found it.
I'm running a network that is comprised: DSL Modem -> Cisco Wired VPN Firewall/Router -> Airport Extreme (via Ethernet) -> Two Airport Express (One in Living Room, One in Bedroom), via wireless and set to extend the network (connecting the AX to the AE via wire is not possible). The entire network works just fine; both AX work fine, connect fine, good signal, etc. My dilemma is that as it sits, the AX ethernet out can be connected to either +(choose one)+the television OR the DirecTV receiver OR the AV receiver.
+*Obviously, I'd like to connect to all three.*+ I'm considering two options, and wondering about their viability.
1. Connect a hub or bridge to the ethernet out of the AX, and connect the TV, DirecTV and AV Receiver to the hub/bridge.
2. Replace the AX in the bedroom with an AE, which would be set to extend the network and use the ethernet ports on it.
I would appreciate comments on this; if both will work, is one approach necessarily better than the other? Also, if appropriate, any tips on settings as well. *Thanks in advance!*

I added a Cisco switch ( I trust their stuff for reliability...even though it's just s awitch, I'd rather pay the $12 more to buy Cisco vs. Fry's house brand), and it is working like a charm. Netflix is streaming to our Flat Screen, internet radio is streaming to our AV Receiver, we're able to stream our iTunes from several computers in the house to our AV Receiver, and we are receiving on demand DirecTV. Hi, I live in a house with 3 floors. My router and my timecapsule are located on the 2nd floor and I want to extend my network wirelessly to the first floor and the ground floor by adding several (2) Airport Express stations to my network. Is this possible?

That's because you can only wirelessly "extend" the network one time, not two.
Apple's "extend" setup works like the hub and spokes of a wheel. The Time Capsule would be your hub. There can be multiple AirPort Express devices, but each Express resides at the end of a separate spoke...and it communicates directly to the hub....not to another device at the end of another spoke.
The second extender is "joining" the network, but it provides no additional wireless signal coverage when it "joins".
You will need to move the second AirPort Express closer to the Time Capsule.....to the point where the display indicates that both Express devices are connected to the Time Capsule.
Another approach might be to move the Time Capsule to the central area on the 1st floor, then locate an AirPort Express above and below that area. That would work.
If that is not possible, then you will need to think about a wired Ethernet connection from the AirPort Extreme to the location of the second AirPort Express.
