Is it possible to disable the possibility to shut down the iPhone when a passcode lock is set up?

If my iPhone is stolen and the thief shut it down I wouldn't be able to locate it anymore.
Is it possible to disable de possibility to shut down the iPhone when a passcode lock is set up?

That is true, and if it is restored to factory settings, and so on.  Find My...works when a device is connected to the internet and logs itself in as long as it has not been "sanitized" so it is not recognized.

enable prohibition shutdown option, with out a jail break tweek
Apple should think about this, if not already in the new IOS 7

    No.
The battery will run out sooner or later anyway, even if you could prevent shutdown.
iOS 7 includes a feature that prevents anyone wiping and then re-setting up the phone without your AppleID and password.

  • It won't eject the Ipod without shutting down the entire laptop....

I have what I guess is the 'classic' 30g iPod it has no problems syncing at all my problem comes in when I try to 'eject' it. I have tried getting itunes to 'eject' and the response comes up:
"The iPod _ cannot be ejected because it contains files that are in use by another application."
This happens if Itunes is the only thing running OR when I shut Itunes down and try to eject it with the icon in the task bar (blonde I don't know what it's called but a screen comes up and you click the 'stop' button and it's supposed to turn lose of things that you connect with the usb cord) and I get the same message "other applications are using the ipod shut down all applications and try again later"
I have tried starting the laptop then itunes and connecting the iPod or running half a dozen different things it makes no difference. The ONLY way I have found so far is to completely shut it down (restarting the comp doesn't give me enough time to get it unplugged before the laptop 'grabs' it again and shows the do not disconnect screen) the ONLY thing I currently have 'syncing' to the ipod is music... no pictures, no calendars, and no contacts.
I have downloaded the newest updates for both the Ipod and Itunes.... any one know why it's doing this and how to make it quit? .... having to shut everything down just to make this 'turn loose' is getting old real quick and I would like to have contacts, calendars, and pictures back.

Fair enough. Another thought along similar lines ... even though you're getting a slightly different set of messages, the sorts of applications discussed in the following document are also worth checking on:
Windows Vista "No Disk" or "Exception Processing Message" alert occurs when ejecting iPod after enabling disk use
... and also the application discussed in the following thread:
    http://discussions.apple.com/message.jspa?messageID=6828218#6828218
(Thinking about the latter one, because if it's a background process that is checking the iPod, then that might cause grief even though your Task Manager is not showing that any other applications are running.)

Play it safe with the charging.  Use the wall charger for at least an hour and then connect to the computer.  If iTunes still denies that it exists, go here:

I have an older macbook pro and the hard drive is starting to go (making loud noises). i tried to back up to an external hard drive (my passport essential se) using time machine and the computer keeps shutting down. the same thing happens when just trying to save my pictures from iphoto to a flash drive. suggestions to complete backup please?

Sounds like you'll need to access that drive while it is not booted. You need to replace it anyway, so do that, then one way or another (ext enclusure, et), access it and copy files.
If you keep trying to boot it, you might kill it for good and not get your files, so just swap it out first.

  • Alerts - Text Message "To Shut Down the System"

    Hi Experts,
I want to set a Alert message to pop up for all the users of Business One.Lets say the message is "Shut down the system".Can we set this predefined Alert in B1? I tried ,but it asked to link the query.I don knw how .....pls help.

In order an alert to work, not only a message is needed, more important is the event to trigger this alert.  What is your condition to alert user? If this condition is not directly related to B1 itself, such as you want all user out of B1 system, then an email broadcasting to a distribution list would be a better tool to use.
    Thanks,

  • Is it possible to kill a (last) task without shut down the hole App?

Is it possible to kill a (last) task without shut down the hole App?
For example you wanna open/import something in Adobe AE and the finderdialog hangs.
You dont have any chance to save your work before quit the app.
May it could be a code in Terminal or something like else.
So, is it possible to whrite it down for me please?
    thx frank

You can kill any individual process by using Activity Monitor, selecting the process, and using the Kill Process command. The location and precise phrasing of the command will vary by version of OS X; in Mavericks it's the "x" button at the upper-left corner of the screen.
If it's some part of the application that has hung, though, it's highly probable that killing a process associated with the application will bring down the entire program. In such as case there's almost never any option. In the case of the application hanging in the file open/save dialog, then I don't believe that there will be any way you can recover without forcing the entire application to quit.
    Regards.

  • Is it possible to continue downloading OS X Lion after shutting down the computer?

I am downloading the OS X Lion app on my MacBook Pro and is only at 180mb after an hour. I am downloading this app for free because I recently purchased a MacBook Pro. Is there a way I can continue the download even after shutting down the computer? Will I be charged the next time I try to re-download the app--as in, will the code for downloading the app for free expire?
    Thank you SO much!

I downloaded OS X Lion over the period of a day or so and what you have to do is pause the download (for a snow leopard user that should be in your dock) and then shut down your machine. When you boot it back up, you should be able to resume the download by clicking the OS X Lion logo and typing in your Apple ID info and the download should resume at the same spot where it was when you left it.

  • Is it possible to shut down the MAC automatically while being in sleeping mode?

    Dear all,
on my MacPro I use a setting that after 30 minutes of inactivity, the machine moves into sleeping mode. That works well.
Additionally I'm using a setup within the energy saving section, that the Mac should shut down every day at 10:00 pm and start or wake up every day at 07:00 am.
But it seems, that, if the Mac is in sleeping mode at 10:00 pm, he cannot shut down.
Does anyone has the same experience and/or knows any help?
    Thanks in advance - helee29

    Dear Martin,
    Thanks for reply.
I checked the logs as mentioned, but honesly saying I'm not experienced enough to understand all this notices.
What I found out in the meantime by testing (try and error) is:
    - if the Mac is in working mode (just the screensaver is working) the automatic shut down and restart to set times works perfectly.
    - if the Mac is in sleeping mode, it doesn't shut down automatically at the set time, but makes an automatic restart at the set time
Ergo there is a problem to shut down the Mac automatically while in sleeping mode, but I still don't know what it is.

  • Prevent Certain Users From Shutting Down the Mac

    Hello,
I have a group of Mac Minis which are secured in an equipment rack. When someone shuts the computer off, the rack has to be moved and the Mac powered-on, manually. This is not as easy as it may seem. Is there a way to remove the "Shutdown" item from the Apple menu. I need the "Logoff" and "Reboot" the options to still be available. I do nt have an OS X server, from which to project these settings from Workgroup Manager. Is there some .plist I can edit, or permission I can change?
    Thanks

Not possible without hacking the system and even then it is not foolproof. If you Google something like mac os x disable shutdown you'll get an idea of the situation.
And if you could remove the command from the Apple menu there is still the key combination to deal with.
If this is a social problem, users mistakenly shutting down the system then maybe education would be a better approach to take.
If it is willful or the inconvenience of this being done is very great then maybe you should suggest getting the serve for $20 just to have the ability to handle this.
    regards
Message was edited by: Frank Caggiano - it does appear that tinkertool says it does address the 'shutdown option in the finder'. Interesting to see if this is the Apple menu. Worth a shot

  • Can't open Elements 8 more than once without shutting down the computer

After starting up my computer, I can open Elements 8 (organizer and/or editor) and work as usual.  However, if I close the program, then check email or work on something else, and then I decide to open Elements again, I get the opening screen, click Organizer, and it just disappears.  When I shut down the computer, it says there are programs waiting to close, but it shuts down quickly despite that.  Once I have restarted, all is normal again, until I decide to open Elements twice.
    I have Windows 7 professional.
Do I need to reinstall Elements 8?
    Cam

It sounds like the Organizer and Editor aren't closing all the way, which makes it so you can't re-open them.
To know for sure if this is the case, after you close either program, open Task Manager (CTRL+SHIFT+ESC), go the Processes tab, click the option at the bottom to show processes from all users, and then scan the list for PhotoshopElementsEditor.exe and/or PhotoshopElementsOrganizer.exe.
If there, then that means they aren't getting closed.
As a temporary workaround until you find out why they won't close, you can end the process in Task Manager instead of rebooting the computer.
As for the cause, it is possible that something else you have running in the background, perhaps security software, is causing the issue. To determine if that's the case, restart the computer without any startup items or non-essential services, and then run Elements 8. Here are some instructions:
    Windows 7/Vista: http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb404913_en-us
    Windows XP: http://go.adobe.com/kb/ts_kb404984_en-us
If you can close and re-open the Editor/Organizer properly without anything else running, then something was preventing the program from closing properly. Use a process of elimination to determine what; something similar to this method:
    Open the System Configuration utility.
Re-enable approximately half of the items that were disabled.
Click OK, and restart your computer for the changes to take effect.
Check if you can close and re-open the Editor/Organizer.
If you can't anymore, open the System Configuration utility and disable half of the most recently enabled items.
If you can still, open the System Configuration utility and re-enable half of the remaining items.
Go back to Step 3, and continue dividing the items into halves until  you have determined which startup item or service is causing the issue.
Once you have isolated the problematic startup item or service,  contact its manufacturer for an update or configuration information, or  leave it disabled.

  • When i try to open dmg file for newest version of itunes, my mac pro does not open to install and freezes my main desktop toolbar so i can't select the apple to shut down, it also enables me to open any other programs?HELP PLEASE

i've been forced by my comp to shut down several times by holding the power button because of the inability to select the apple and shut down correctly..idk if i got a rare mac virus or bug.. and some programs simply won't open when clicked on.. i don't know how this is possible after years of great performance..

Where did you get this "dmg file"? To install the newest version of any Apple software, including iTunes, all you have to do is use Software Update from the Apple menu. This doesn't download any dmg, it automatically installs the software for you.
Maybe try repairing your permissions from Disk Utility (in your Utilities folder).
Also - What version of OS X do you have? Please update your forum profile so we can help you better.
