Is it possible to pause a contoured motion?

I'm using the NI-73xx palette to construct a contoured pattern. Everything works fine, but it won't be practical until I can get it to pause and resume exactly where it left off. I tried using the velocity override VI but couldn't get it to work. I think it's because contoured motion calculates the velocity for you, so you can't change it even if you tried to set it. Any ideas? Thanks!

I can't think of a way to simply pause any moves in the NI Motion API, but I would recommend looking into doing what I described above. Essentially, if a move gets stopped, programmatically update the buffer going to the contoured move based on the current stopped position. This will generate smooth motion while retaining the desired travel path. Besides a contoured move, there are no other options for "continuous" motion; the other move types are used as finite moves and trajectories.

  • Is it possible to pause a video clip?

    Hi,
Could anybody tell me if it possible to pause a video clip for a few frames and then resume playing later in the project?
I guess I could chop the video clip into several discrete shorter clips and create some static freezeframes, and then play them all one after the other to crate the same effect.
But that sounds clumsy so I wondered if there is a way to pause/resume a video clip within a project.
    Thanks.
    Meme.

Many thanks for the pointers. I excitedly booted-up Motion to explore further...
... but I couldn't find anything called Timing remap or re-timing etc. Then it dawned on me that I should have specified that I'm still using Motion 2, and I guess those features are only available in Motion 3?
However, armed with the new phrase 'Timing Remap', I dived back into Google and came up with this article:
    http://www.kenstone.net/fcphomepage/speed_changesmotion.html
This explains how to use the Scrub filter (also available in Motion 2) to control the playback of video clips relative to the project.
Its a bit fiddly, but I'm comfortable with basic arithmetic, so I can certainly use it to achieve the effect I want (basicaly I need a video clip to pause and then resume a few times throughout a project).
So thanks again for the feedback. It really did help.

  • Is it possible to make a stop motion animation in premier pro ?

    hi
there is it possible to produce a stop motion animation within premier pro

Paint strokes are always on a 2D plane in 3D space, and always in "local 3D" which means they cannon interact with other objects (unless you keep them as 2D).
However, you can animate particle emitters and replicators along a motion path in full 3D space and wrap around objects.

  • Pause in blend motion routine

I am using a blend motion routine (derived from the example that ships with the board) to blend 3 sets of x-y points on two axes on a PCI-7344. The rountine works great except when I ask for movement in only the x direction or only the y direction. In both cases there can be pauses of 3 seconds or more between blend moves. If I have movement in the x and y direction, then there is never a pause. Why would this occur? For example if I am at 0,0 and the next set of points to belnd through is 100,0, then I will get a pause. However, if I the next point is 100,100, then there will be no pause. The stepper motors are being run closed loop at 10,000 steps/rev with 10,000 counts/rev on the encoders.

With blend factor 0 the axes decelerate to a stop and start the next move immediately after that. With blend factor -1 the acceleration phase of the next move starts as soon as the deceleration phase of the first move begins. In this case the axes don't stop between each move which is the main reason why blending is used. The disadvantage of this method is the fact that corners in the move profiles get rounded. The degree of this rounding depends on the acceleration/deceleration values.
Here is one possible scenario why the wait occurrs:
A short move is executed and during this move you load new trajectory parameters but this process isn't finished by the time you send the new blend command. In this case the move decelerates to a stop. In thi
s case the 7344 tries to reach exactly the target position you have specified for the move. As the resolution of your encoder is very high there is a good chance that the target position isn't reached exactly. Thus the board starts some pull-in moves until the position is reached (by default after three pull-in moves the board gives up). If your program would have been able to send the next blend command fast enough this sequence would have been skipped.
The pull-in moves are only executed when there is a difference between the encoder position and the calculated position. Thus they are only executed in closed loop systems.
    Possible solutions:
    1. Configure the "Move Complete Criteria" in the axes' trajectory settings in MAX to accept some displacement (deadband parameter)
    2. Reduce the velocity for short moves or don't use very short travel ranges at all (this might not be possible).
    3. If nothing of this helps or don't use blending at all. Use buffered contouring
instead (please refer to the shipping examples).
    Best regards.

  • Have an item pause before final motion...

Is it possible to have an object pause for a bit before it starts it's final motion when using scroll motion?

There is currently no way to introduce a pause in animation over time during a continuous scroll. However, you can achieve similar effect by using anchor links and navigating to the position using the anchor which stops the scroll (and thus animation) once it has reached a specific point in scroll.
    Hope that helps.

  • Possible to do the 3d motion tracking text in video with only adobe products?

I am very interested in doing some 3d text in some video with motion tracking, such as you see in the opening shots in the show Fringe.
You will have a scene of maybe a street in the city, the camera is looking forward and moving, you have 3d block text that seems to be just hovering there up off the ground but looks like a real physical 3d object in the shot as the camera moves around.
I have been looking up tutorials for this in After effects on youtube but they always use other non adobe products as well such as boujou or 3ds max,  I am wondering if it is possible to make the same shot with only adobe products. If so, what whould I use other than after effects.  And lastly, can anyone point me to a good free tutorial using only adobe programs if there is one out there?
I have seen one video of someone adding text to a moving video but it was flat or plastered onto a wall and not the nice block letters that look like a sculpture in the video.
    Thanks.

I am wondering if it is possible to make the same shot with only adobe products.
No, you can't and that settles all your other questions. For tutorials, refer to VideoCoPilot's matchmoving and set extension stuff, but even then you will need to at least use some comemrcial third-party plug-ins.

  • Is it possible to do this in Motion?

Hi..I recently watched a clip on YouTube and I was wondering if it was possible to do something like this in Motion?
    http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=N4jwfpCut9o
The first one is at :25.  You see more of them throughout the video.  I'm think this is After Effects, but just wondering..
    Thank you for your help.

You could easily do this in Motion.  This is simply moving various elments with graphic treatments on the screen. If you have FCP X, take a look at some of the Video Transitions that ship with it.  They are similar enough that you could break them down to get an idea of how to create this type of animation.
Basicly, the transition effects in your video from youtube  are just masked video, still backgrounds, text and a few filters.

  • Is it possible to pause a for loop?

    Hi all!
I wonder if it's possible in anyway, without using any
timelines, to "pause" a for loop.for a couple of second if some
statement returns true during the loop?
I.e. like this sketch up of a code example:
    Thanks for any help :)

there is no way to pause or slow a for-loop or while-loop.
you would have to code for breaks in your for-loop(s) or use
setInterval() or an onEnterFrame loop to control the loops
    execution after it starts.

  • Is Rotoscoping possible without Green Screen in Motion 5?

I want to track a moving object and replace its back ground. I don't use Green Screen back ground.
Is it possible in FCPX or motion 5 or at least with any plugins?

In Motion you can use masks and motion tracking to assist in rotoscoping. What all is needed will depend heavily on the details you are trying to track in your footage.
-Manual tracking can be done with masks and multiple masks can be combined for complex shapes.
-The Match Move behavior or Track Points behaviors may work well for getting masks to follow 4 corner items or to follow a basic shape.  For example I use Match move often to track  faces and then adjust the mask shape as needed.
-As Karsten pointed out, there are also plug-ins that can assist.
The more comfortable you are with basic rotoscoping techniques and tracking,  the easier things will be.  Take time to review the documentation for Motion on Masks and Tracking.

  • Is it possible to pause uploading to iCloud photo library in iOS?

When uploading photos to iCloud photo library from OS X, there is an option to pause the upload.
This is useful to give your internet connection some respite (e.g. during periods where traffic management policies apply).
I can't find such an option in iOS. Am I missing something?

You can try using a JavaScript disabling extension. This may disable more than you want it to though.

  • Is it possible to replicate this in Motion 4?

    http://www.videocopilot.net/tutorial/dynamic_machine_gun/
I was thinking that the link behavior might be able to accomplish this, but it doesn't seem to allow for the source image/footage of a particle system to be changed based on position or in any other way. Are individual particle emitters the only way to accomplish this effect?

Pretty much all of the portions of the tutorial can be replicated in Motion 4 - the only thing that won't work is the algorithmic reading of the surface map to determine which particle emitter to turn on.
You could work around this by duplicating the path of the particle emitter for each surface and manually activating each emitter at the proper point.
I did request the ability to read image characteristics and use them to alter parameters in a presentation to the Motion engineers, but they did not add it to Motion 5.

  • Possibility to pause drawing of a scene or group of nodes temporarily

Is there any way to temporarily pause the javafx runtime drawing operations?
The issue I'm having is that I have a sort of physics simulation running with tens of different physical objects. The objects have their x and y co-ordinates
bound to circles that are used for visualization.
Now, while I'm doing the physics calculations inside Keyframe, it seems that for each location update of the objects, the screen gets a refresh and this grinds the whole simulation to snail speed.
So if there would be a way to disable the drawing temporarily, maybe the performance would be better?
    Like this:
    disableDrawing()
    updateCoordinates()
    enableDrawing()

After a quick look, I didn't see anything in the API that seems to do exactly what you are asking (I may have missed it), but I can think of a few ideas that might help:
    1. The most obvious solution is to just write your own listener, or update trigger, instead of binding.
    2. Are you able to drive the physics simulation yourself? If so, I would just step the physics simulation multiple times for each view keyframe, or sync the number of steps with what can actually be handled by the view (javafx). After all, animation doesn't normally exceed 30 fps, so binding the view to a model that is updated say, 90 times a second, is a bit excessive.

  • Is it possible to pause my iPod update?

All other downloads in iTunes are able to be paused and then resumed later, but I noticed that the iPod software download just has a 'x' instead of a pause symbol. The download is absolutely huge (650mb) and I have a slow internet connection so it says that it's going to take 14 hours... I've tried to download it multiple times but I am unable to close my laptop or let it go to sleep (I have caffeine turned on to prevent that), not to mention our internet is unreliable out here in regional Australia and it drops out at least once a day...
Is there anyway to either pause the download and be able to resume it later, or get the update from another source (at my nearest Apple store, for example...)?  The iPad update is even bigger (it says it will take 3 days...) so I'm kind of desperate here. If there's no way to get around this lack of pause button, I will probably have to give up on getting the iOS updates...

Try downloading the update file directly and then installing it.
    Get it here:
    http://www.felixbruns.de/iPod/firmware/
Manually install it by holding your "Option" key down when clicking on the "Restore" button in iTunes and select the firmware file you downloaded.
