Is it worth purchasing an alternative router?

Just got fibre enabled last thursday and since last night, it was running pretty great. I've got the Infinity 2 package, so I was getting a sweet 74Mb Down & 18 Up.
Last night however, it had dropped, significantly, like - all the way down to 20 and nothing had changed in my router settings. Typically when I ping google.co.uk, I'd get 14 - 15 ms, last night, it was bouncing around to 250ms, which I didn't understand.
I also spend a lot of my time at home online gaming, and for the first time, I was rubber-banding like crazy. One minute I'm standing somewhere and it'd throw me back to where I was a few seconds earlier. Ping would usually be 20ms, then all of a sudden it'd throw me to 70ms and then drop back down again.
After reading the forums, I've gathered that it's potentially a problem with the HH5, and if so, then I don't really want it anymore, I'd much rather purchase an alternative, stable router. Though if it's not as simple as that, I'd be happy to listen to info!
But in all seriousness BT, please sort it out. Customers pay for the Infinity 2 package for a reason, dropping below speeds that Infinity 1 offer is not acceptable.
Also, currently not at home at this time so I can't provide any logs/information.

I have recently been upgraded from adsl to infinity 2 with unfortunately an ongoing issue of speed being less than half of that promised.
The facility I miss most on a home hub is the lack of remote management. I spend a fair time away from home and find it a real irritation that BT doesn't allow remote access to a hub. How can we change port forwarding or even check sync speeds or reset without access.
I haven't decided yet which router/VDSL modem to go for but the TP link seems good value for money, allowing USB media storage as well as an FTP server.
An Asus possibly does more, and if you are still not satisfied with the firmware supplied with it there are custom ones available with even more features.

  • Alternative router settings to replace hh4

    Hi all
I have recently purchased a Cisco rv220w router to replace my home hub 4. I have tried and tried but can't seem to get the router to receive an internet signal. I have used pppoe and changed the user name to that of my home hub.. I think one issue might be that my new router is asking me for a password and the hh4 doesn't have one?
Any one on here had any luck or can share some advice about using an alternative router? Would a call to bt help?
    James

Just to confirm, are you on Infinity or adsl broadband. If on adsl broadband your new router does not have an adsl modem it is only a router and that would be the reason it won't work.
If you are on Infinity I presume you are connecting through the Openreach modem as your router does not have a VDSL modem built in and would not work with out the Openreach one.

  • I purchased a new router and now can't connect my Iphone 4S to it.  All my other devices work fine.  How do I get the phone to connect.  It finds the router but wants IP address: CHCP/BootP/STATIC.  I am confused!!

I purchased a new router and can not connect my IPHONE 4S to it.  All my other devices connect fine including my IPAD.  HELP!  I am not a techie!! I am a newbie

My guess is that when you see the router on your phone, you press the blue arrow on the right - thats why you see all the IP stuff.   Don't press the blue arrow.  Press further to the left. You should be prompted for a password then.

  • MFBF and Alternative Routing Sequence

    Hi;
We are using REM in PP.We confirm via MFBF. And we create routings via ca01. I want to use alternative routing sequence during confirmation.
What should I do? or Is it possible for REM?
    Thanks.

    Hi;
Thanks for your answers. I dont want to create new production versions. But routing informations are change.
Ex: I have two machines in a production line, lets say it A and B. This line has a work center code in SAP ( lets says Line1)
When I use only machine A I produce 100 pieces in 5 minutes with 2 worker. But when I use A & B at the same time I produce 100 pieces in 3 minutes with 3 worker.
Machine A and B are connected to the same conveyor belt, so I put the pieces in the same palette. And during confirmation I use Line1 as workcenter.
What should I do to post the exact activities ?
    Thanks for your information.

  • I purchased a new router and now I can not connect to my time capsule. What should I do?

In the past, I have just used my time capsule to back up my macbook pro. It connected wirelessly and everything worked great. I recently purchased a new router and now I cannot connect to the time capsule. Please help!

Is that other router the "main" one?  If so, you'll have to configure the Time Capsule to "join" the network created by that router.  The details of how to do that and whether it's possible may depend on the brand and model of that router, but I have no details on that.

  • Alternative router to hh3

ok so the hh3 is an ok router for standard use BUT not ideal for advanced use, NAT loopback and dyndns being the main issues, so what is a good alternative router to use that does a proper routing job,
    guess the main requirements are
it needs to support connection to infinity
    needs to support dyndns
needs to allow NAT loop back
    802.11n

A quick check of the TP Link forum for the TP-Link TL-WR1043ND seems to indicate that it does.

I'm pretty sure TP-LINK wired routers support NAT Loopback, I have test it with my IP camera, it works.

  • Navigation App with alternative routes Lumia 1020

Has anyone found a good navigation app that will give an alternative route?
With my android phone I've used Google maps and Scout.  I can't find one for the Windows phone.

    Hi @ewand ,
There must be an option to make the Audi completely forget the phone, as well as removing the car from the list of known bluetooth devices on the phone, then start the pairing again. It is unclear from your previous post if this has been tried already? (Re-pairing can be interpreted in different ways).
I am puzzled why it would work on one phone and not the other similar phone.

  • Want to propose Alternative Route in Order

    Hi friends,
I would like to know what configuration settings I should be doing for to propose Alternative Route in Order.
    Condition is as below.
Rec Zone(X)Shipping Zone(Y)SH Cond(02)+ Trans Grp(0001) = Route( ABC) .Here I want to propose (popup) laternative routes.
Please reply soon.Waiting for your kind reply.

    hello again.
also look into IMG > SD > Basic Functions > Routes > Route Determination > Maintain Route Determination.
if you are just defining a combination of departure zone and receiving zone, click 'New Entries'.  if you are adding alternative routes, select a combination and click Route Determination without weight group.  in the next screen, you can make your assignments based on Shipping conditions + Transport group + proposed route.
if weight group is relevant, then click on Route Determination with weight group.  in the next screen, the weight group and actual (alternative) route can be assigned together with the transport group and shipping conditions.
    regards.

Hi is it worth purchasing  for 1500$ a used imac 27 inch 2010 i7 quad core 2.8Ghz 16 Gb RAM 1033 mhz HDD 1TB  atiradon hd 4850 and it (got out of mac sotre 3 days ago(guarantee) New screen New motherboard new harddrive)

    This is a good deal.
I paid that for my 2009 27 inch iMac with similar specs through an Apple Reseller.
Is this from an individual or Authorized Apple Reseller?
If from an individual, then there will be no type of warranty.
An Apple Authorized Reseller wil have a warrany period of 30 days to six months depending.

  • Is it worth purchasing 10.6

I have two imacs connected to a Netgear DG834GT router. Also connected to the router is a Konica Minolta PagePro 9100 A3 mono printer at the moment. Both my computers use system 10.5.8 and print via appletalk. I do not seem to be able to print any other way if I put the ip address into ipd or lpd. It seems to recognise the printer but the print queue comes up as printer busy will try again in 30 seconds.
Is it worth me purchasing 10.6 as I understand this system does not include appletalk, or is there another way for me to get over this problem?
    Thanks
    Chris

    Thanks Greg.
Your suggestion worked. I had tried the other two options but thought the HP jetdirect protocol only applied to HP printers, so did not bother with that. I have Applecare on both my Imacs and I have phoned them twice with this problem. They have spent at least 20 minutes trying to help me out, I spoke to an Adviser, and also a Product Specialist, neither of them could help me. I even asked them if I should try HP jetdirect protocol and they said no. Eventually they told me to contact the printer manufacturer.
My printer has always worked fine. The only reason for thinking of going with 10.6 is I thought it might be quicker. I would not upgrade if I thought I had to change my A3 mono laser printer. It is nice to have the help of someone who knows what they are talking about.
    Thanks again.

  • Setting up alternative router: TD-W8960N

I have downloaded the file from
    http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/hardware/TP_link/wa8960/infinity/td_w8960setup.html
but when I try to import it I keep getting an error message about it being an illegal image.
I assume I am missing a step somewhere, can anyone provide guidance?

Thanks Keith. Not sure my techie expertise will stretch to this. Will give it a go but think I just wasted £30.
I would expect the details in the manual would be clearer, as the new version does support EWAN. If you were only looking for an Infinity router, then the TD-W8960N, would not be a good choice, unless you were using it for ADSL, while waiting for an upgrade to Infinity.
Its like the HH3 and 4, in that respect. The list on my website was for replacements for the HH3, which is what I assume you were looking for.
The TP-Link TL-WR1043ND would be a much better choice for Infinity only.
I would take a close look at the manual, I am sure its going to be quite straightforward.
I have just looked, and there is a quick setup option, which leads you through the options.
    See http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/hardware/TP_link/wa8960/infinity/setup1.jpg
     Just choose Ethernet WAN
    Then.
    http://forumhelp.dyndns.info/hardware/TP_link/wa8960/infinity/setup2.jpg
Then choose PPPoE and make the username [email protected]
    Password BT
The Openreach modem will connect to LAN port 4.
To be honest, I think its worth you giving it a go, you will learn a lot in the process
It has lots of extra facilities, and is a bargain at £30.
