Is LabVIEW based on NI-DAQ ?

I want to get NI-DAQ for Linux.
Does Labview 7.0 full development version
for Linux include NI-DAQ ?

Comedi never will be ported to Windows I would assume. Its
architecture is very Unix centric and porting to Windows
would be basically impossible without a complete redesign.
Comedi will be improved with new support for sure and it
will only get more stable if users are using it and providing
feedback and bugfixes.

There are two options for you. The NI Measurement Hardware
DDK is supported on both Linux and Windows (and some other
systems too including MacOS X and the NI realtime platforms).
It is the low level and I mean "low level" API you
are probably
talking about and is basically the same on all platforms it
supports.
Another option might be to look into UEI as an alternative.
Their hardware has Windows and Linux drivers which I would
assume have the same API.
> By the way. OpenG do not concern to low level.
No, the OpenG library is a LabVIEW VI library to interface
to the Comedi library which handles the low level stuff.
It is possible to write a VI library which might call Comedi
but is for the rest compatible to the NI-DAQ VIs.

No, LabVIEW is a paid software license, Linux or not.

Once running the labview program which contain DAQ Assistant and can be run without any error before, the message box of "ERROR-50405....." appear which capture down in the attachment. We use PCI6221 and LabVIEW 8.0 in Windows XP. I also found that the Device Manager of Window have recognized the PCI6221.

    Hi~
This error is due to signal interference between the device and the computer. This could be environmental or due to the PCI Controller. You can on a different computer to see whether this problem persists.

  • How can I make LabView 6.1to detect DAQ NI-USB 6008

I have a LabView version 6.1, recently I bought a new DAQ model NI-USB 6008, I could not use it with my Labview version. Please, how can I adapt my DAQ for version 6.1 or update my LabView to detect my DAQ? Please advise me to a free applicable solutions. Thanks very much

The USB 6008 requires DAQmx which requires LabVIEW 7.0 or greater. The upgrade to 7.x (or the just released 8.0) is not free. The only other solution I've heard of is to use the Call Library Function Node to make your own calls to the DAQmx dll. This would not be for the faint of heart or anyone wishing to come up with a quick solution.

  • Feedback on "Labview based Advanced Instrumentation Systems"

Should on add he book "Labview based Advanced Instrumentation Systems"
by Sumathi and Surekha to a collection of Labview Books? How would
you compare it "Labview for Everyone" by Travis and Kring?
    Howard

    Hi Howard,
Travis and Kring is a classic Labview book and always recommended. We have not really looked at the other book but after looking inside it looks like it some good applications and examples. It really depends on what you are looking for--for fundamental knowledge of LabView I would go for Travis and Kring. Hope this helps.

SInce you list your "student number", you are probably using the student edition.
You cannot build standalone executables with the student edition.
You need LabVIEW professional. If you only have LabVIEW full, you need to purchase the application builder seperately.

  • Copyright issues for a LabVIEW based application

Has anyone filed a Copyright for a LabVIEW based application? Copyright office is asking for printed code, which may not work in the case of LabVIEW. Any suggestions?
    Ravi Beniwal

My general experience with copyright and patent law (copyrights in both music and software) is that, for the copyright process, no individual is going to evaluate your code and "approve" your code/program as with a patent application. The documentation of the code is necessary to build the record that you have created "x" method and someone should not copy your "x" method. I would send a print out of your code in G and perhaps a flow chart.
If you are looking for protection as to what you program does then you may want to consider patent application, but this is significantly more expensive than the copyright process. Also, under the copyright law, your work is considered copyright protected from the day at which you display copyright info on all of the objects and this is important in proving (later, if needed, if someone copies your work) that you have sought to actively protect your intellectual property. So put (c) 2005 on all the materials that contain your code and or application.

  • How do i read out the actual voltage range of the daq board as calculated by labview based on my input voltage range

I am somewhat new to DAQ so I hope I describe this well enough, but I have encountered a requirement for my VI that I am not sure how to obtain from LabVIEW. It is my understanding that when using a DAQ board (I'm using a PCI-6034 E) you can specify the voltage range you expect from your measurements, and then the software calculates the actual voltage range it will be measuring to ensure that you get the best resolution in your range that you can given the voltage step size, etc. of the equipment. I know how to extract the voltage input that I enter into the virtual channel, but I was wondering how I can extract the actual voltage range that the hardwar
e/software is using based on its own calculations from my input. Can anyone help me with this?

If I understand correctly, you want to retrieve the actual gain value (and, therefore, usable input range) used by your DAQ card for a particular measurement.
I think there's a good KnowledgeBase entry with your solution entitled "Programmatically Determining the Gain Used by a DAQ Device". Here's the URL:

  • How can I create software start and stop trigger in LabView using 6023E series DAQ card? I don't want to use the external trigger.

I am using 6023E DAQ card to collect the signals, such as AE, Force, Torque from the machine. I want to collect only some part of signal for example between start triger and stop trigger. I'd like to know how I can creat those triggers in LabView from one of the channels that I am acquiring at the same time. I found one or two library file that is only for start trigger. I know that this is availabe in some of DIAdem functions. Please let me know if you have done some example for this requirement.

If you are wanting to create a software trigger based on an analog input voltage in LabVIEW, there are several options. One suggestion would be to compare the voltage values from one input channel to a number within a loop. If the input voltage crosses that threshold (is greater than the number), have a case statement that will acquire data from the other channels. This would simulate a software start trigger in LabVIEW.

  • About using the labview in real time DAQ system

    Hi All
I designed a DAQ board based on PCI bus by myself, using labview for my graphic display application software. DAQ board generate PCI interrupt every 20us(50kHz). then PC respond it and read the data from DAQ board, that means the sampling frquency is 50kHz. the DAQ driver is generated by NI-VISA. it goes well after installing. I am sure that VISA detecte the PCI interrupt and triger a PCI interrupt event every 50kHz.
But I face a problem, labview can not respond reading data in a real time. so does labview can not be used in the real time system? or is there something wrong with other else? if that is true, how can I solve it?
by the way, I read the VISA help document. found there are two ways to respond PCI interrupt. one is callback, the other is queuing. I use the second way. I beg your help.

I think you can use buffered signals with some changes on your circuit, with real time can be hard to implement with not supported hardware.

  • Text file - Labview - Blinking LED (eg daq)

    Hello all,
I am totally new to labview. I'm supposed
to read data from a Text File, then use the file in labview to generate
an output when certain conditions are met. The output is in the form of
a daq card (emant) which has LEDs and i'm supposed to make it light up.
    Help me.

    Hi Krum,
    Thanks for the post!
I would recommend looking at the example finder, Help>>Find Examples. There are examples on reading from text file AND software triggered DAQmx tasks with pre-loaded waveforms (i.e. data from text file). I would try and produce some code, and then post it if/when you get stuck.
Otherwise, maybe try asking some more specific questions.
