Is my box faulty

I've got a 1st gen Silver Vision box and it's been very unreliable lately.
This first started in July when my ITV\C4 channels kept breaking up.
Then a few weeks ago all channels kept getting a message saying that the signal quality was too poor or the level was too low. My IDTV had no problems. I even tried a separate aerial cable in another room to see if that was the problem but the same thing happened.
In the last few days it's started rebooting itself.
Tonight for example, all channels were fine early evening. When I switched on the box later on, it complained of poor\low\bad signal on ever channel and automatically rebooted itself, over and over again.
So far I've tried...
Restarting my Home Hub
Restarting the power adapters
Soft rebooted the Vision box (dozens of times)
Hard rebooted the Vision box (3 times - and lost all my recordings!)
Does anyone have any suggestions please?
Thanks

It'll usually take 2-3 days for them to get back to you, it's just a case of waiting.  In the mean time, you may be able to get around the low/poor reception message by following the advice in this thread Click Here although it states for SCART connected boxes, mine is connected by HDMI and was having a similar issue and this seems to have helped.  I suspect that there is a bigger issue as Masona has hinted to, but this might ease things somewhat.

  • You View box faulty?

Hi I did a manual software update about a month ago as my box was not responding to the remote control (yes I did change the batteries), was taking a long time to load the guide pages and it was acting generally very slow, so was hoping that the update would help. The update was successful and the box is now on: Manufacturer software: 20.9.30 Component software: 2.8.18 Platform configuration: 1234 I am now having a problem with a lot of the recordings. Some of the recordings only show a short amount of recorded time (some as low as nine seconds), and when playing back other recordings the box will lock up half way through and the picture will disappear. Leave it about five minutes and the playback will come back automatically from where it left off. I am thinking that it is a fault with the hard drive. Just recently on the forums I noticed that some people are "upgrading" to the new G4 T2100 box. Has anyone succeeded in just upgrading the box without having to sign up for another 12 months or having to pay out any more than the £35?

    Update:
The box now will not boot up.
Managed to get it started once and where it normally says "nearly ready" with a bluish background, the screen was totally pink with no words on screen at all. On the front of the box where it normally displays the channel, was just one word. FULL.
Last night it was not full as was still showing 60% free.
I have tried now at least 20 times and the box will not boot.
If anyone has any ideas what to do now then I am all ears.
Has it finally kicked the bucket?
p.s  Apart from phoning BT, is there a page on BT.COM which will tell me if I am still in contract?

  • RF pass through not working in High ECO mode stand...

I recently changed the ECO mode on my BT G4 DTR-T2100 box from Low to High - I have the RF loop through power option set to On but when my box goes into low power standby (red light on the front) my TV picture starts pixelating.  The moment I press the power button on the BT box the TV displays a normal picture so it looks like the box is not providing power to the RF pass through when in low power standby?  Any one else have the same problem?  Is the box faulty or is there a problem with the software?

That is how the box is designed to work.
If you look at user guide P29 of the current version on the web it explains that you need to be at Low eco mode for RF loop thru.
Thanks - makes some sort of sense I suppose though it would be more obvious if the RF option was disabled if the High Eco option is selected.

  • YouView SCART

I have recently upgraded from a vision box which was connected via SCART to a YouView box conected via SCART "straight swap".
Everthing works ok exept there is a permanent on signal on pin 8 of the SCART lead which is forcing my TV to switch to the YouView box even if it is not switched on resulting in a blank screen is this condition normal or is the box faulty?
This is somewhat of a hazard as we have allready gone out and left the TV on as no lights show in this state.
The Vision Box worked fine signal switched to box and defaulted back to normal TV reception when swiched off.

Can't believe nobody knows the answer to this question if I had an HDMI connection on my TV I would have used it.
The BT help desk which appears to be in India is about as much use as a chocolate fireguard and the Youview one isn't much better.
What appears to be a brilliant piece of kit spoilt by bad support !!!!!!!
    Shame on you BT.

Hello, I wonder if somebody could help me?
I'm using Garage Band after using Logic for years (yeah, I know). When I go to add an effect to my parameters box it doesn't do it. I am correctly following instructions. Is my system faulty?

My first thought was to wipe the machine and start all over from scratch, but I've already loaded up a lot of software (personally purchased!) and I'm not sure how the process works on OSX 10.7 now...
Well first off your going to have to backup all your files off the machine to a external storage drive, not TimeMachine and disconnect.
Dont' forget exporting bookmarks, email addresses or product keys, email information, passwords for sites etc.
Next you hold command and r keys and boot into Recovery HD, which is a bootable parittion on the boot drive, like a DVD install disk, but not seperate.
Disk Utility > Select the OS X partition > Erase > Security Option: Zero All Data, this will map off a lot of bad sectors ahead of time, takes a bit.
OS X Lion partition is the other bootable partiton, which your going to be erasing from the Recovery HD parittion, get it?
Next install Lion,  using your AppleID and password, from Apple's servers, you will need a fast internet connection and reliable too.
Lion will install and you reboot, setup the same named user account(s) (different password is fine) on the machine,
    install programs first, before files
last install files from backup placing the content of them into the same named folders of Music, Pictures, Movies, Documents etc., but not Library. (you should be seeing it anyway)
    That's it.

  • Faulty you view box

Hi, Please could someone tell me if I may have a faulty box as the picture keeps freezing. I cant use the remote control to do anything, even turn it off. I have to turn off at the mains and then wait for it to restart. I can then watch the channel it is on but cant then get the guide to work ? Hope this makes sense but ive had to turn off 5 times tonight and getting fed up with it .

Take a look at this PDF
    http://videos.youview.com/support/maintenance_mode.pdf
Try the methods here and if that doesn't work then time to report a faulty box. However if you phone up just now they will simply get you to go through these processes.

  • Bt vision box 2nd box is also faulty!!

okay, so im not a big TV viewer, but i do like to record programmes and watch them when the weathers bad, etc.  My Silver box crashed, as out of date a few months ago.  Promised a new box,  which took 4 weeks to resolve because the advisor said they would send out a box,  but BT dont. (bad management advice to staff???)
Eventually an engineer arrived,  provided a box, which has lasted about a month.  It developed a time delay from pressing a button on remote to actually activating the changeover  of about 30 seconds, doesnt sound much, but a bit frustrating when your trying to catch an important news story.
Now engineer came a week ago,  reset the box,  that didnt work so a week later a new box provided, and guess what, it keeps switching itself off !!!  Im not sure if its updating or if its just fed up.  But I really do dispair.
Not only do we now have to keep a paper list of programmes we record because we have to re enter the details with each reset or new box,  but im half way through recording a programme and the whole thing stops, and im left with half a programme.
Ive been offered £20 compensation for one months NO USE of BT vision and considering it was freeview programmes and nothing could be watched,  I had hoped that would be sent asap, but have been told it will be on my next bill  which is in august.  Con??
    Sky TV really is beckoning.

Enquire about a Youview box. These are much more reliable than the Vision Box, and are currently replacing the old silver boxes.

  • My iPod shuffle, which I prchased in 2009 only worked for a short time so I put it back in the box and just recently took it out. I will not charge and the power light does not come on. It was faulty from the start and thought I was out the money I paid.

My iPod shuffle only worked for a short time. It will not charge  and the power light does not come on. Bought it in 2009. Put it back in the box and in my desk. Recently tried to get it to work again but no luck. Anyone else have this problem? Very disappointed with the product although my wifes work perfectly.

Can't say I haven't done the same kind of thing...keep finding things I had every intention of...
If you have the chance stop by an Apple Retail store and talk to them about it...they often work deals for replacement of out of warranty non-working items for prices around half price.  Won't hurt to stop by and see what they will do for you.

  • On the rare occasions Apple replace a faulty ipad with a new one, does it come in a plain brown box

    Like the refurb replacements do?

I cannot swear to this but If you received a replacement in a plain brown box, it is a refurbished iPad. A brand new iPad would be boxed in the original brand new box.
Why would Apple put a brand new iPad in a plain brown box? The answer to that would be, they wouldn't.
Once again - just my opinion.

  • HELP - CK-200 NO SOUND OUTPUT - FAULTY???

Hi... please can someone help, I'm at the end of my tether.
Last week I bought a CK-200 (ISO) and fitted it straight in my KIA Ceed.
All worked well for about two days, then I noticed when I started the car there was no start-up sound and no sound when the phone rang etc
I reported this to the dealer who supplied it and they sent me a new ISO Cable/Loom + a new black box/controller thingee.
I fitted these on Friday and everything was GREAT
Saturday I used the car and everything was fine.
Then next time I got into the car... NO SOUND...
Could it possibly be that there's a faulty batch out there? ISO connectivity is a universal standard isn't it... and there's certainly nothing wrong with my car radio/cd...
Please can ANYONE shed some light on this...

    Hi
From what you have said, it sounds like it COULD be one of two things.
A damaged cable, or a bad / weak earth which is not enabling the mute function.
One way to test this would be to connect a standard headphone to the 3.5mm socket on the control box. If you hear the call audio, it's a mute problem.
To get around this, snip the black wire that leads to the 4 way multiplug and earth it separately to a good chassis ground in the car.
If you are not comfortable doing this, I strongly recommend calling a professional installer, after all this kit is designed to be professionally installed.

  • Engineers not carrying boxes?

Please hear my tale of woe and be warned.
I recently changed from BT vision (rubbish box that started to freeze and forget recordings) to the Youview as I signed up to netflixs and few changes to my account and packages. This was all fine and box arrived when stated and i installed box and was instantly impressed as it worked some much better. Then after 2 days then the trouble hit.
The box cuts out it forget the channels and mainly the Sky Sports which is frustrating during a game. I have to retune the box all the time and it even cuts out and reboots itself. I informed BT and they got me to do the maintance mode reset and turn on and off etc etc. and wait for 2-3 days to see if the problem persist. Oh course the problem persisted they then agreed to send an engineer a few days later.
The engineer arrived and  messed around with the settings and what not and said he done a software update but what I have described is a common problem with these old refurbished box. Hang on old refurbished box?? I just signed up to a new 12 month contract and they have given me a rubbish second hand box! Surly that cant be so the engineer was doing a few more tests concluded the box is faulty but working ok at the moment and I had a I went online and sure another there's a G4 box which is smaller faster lighter etc etc So I asked the engineer why have I been sent this old box and how do I get a new one is that something he can swap for me he replied that the does not carry boxes on his van and I would need to get and openreach engineer out or get BT to send one.
So I rang up AGAIN saying I still have the issue and the engineer said the box is faulty but he can not replace it as he doesn't carry them (whats the point in that) I need openreach to turn up. The person I spoke to said I should have been sent the G4 and agreed as I was in the first month still they will send someone to swap it for free but can ot just send it out to me.
Another day off work and right on time an engineer turns up again. Guess what he was not a openreach engineer either and someone who also has no boxes on there van ( I struggle to understand what the point in these guys are)this engineer  said everything is fineif I have a problem I have to contact BT direct to get them to send an openreach engineer.
Im getting pretty sick of it now and cant get the time off to keep sitting waiting for the wrong guy to turn up. How hard can it be to just send me the correct box ill happly return this rubbish one and to be honest I simply regret the whole ordeal and wish I never re-signed for 12months either the engineers are lying which I doubt as 2 have said the same thing or BT has not got a clue how pointless these people are if there job is TV repair and they don't carry spares?!.
Can anyone one here please please point me to how I can get an openreach guy to come with the correct box or simply better yet just get one sent like when I signed up?? otherwise im stuck with this rubbish for a year!!

    Hi Therobster85,
Welcome to the forum and thanks for posting, I'm sorry about the problems with your Youviewbox.  I wanted to clarify that BT Openreach do not maintain or carry Youview boxes either this is solely done by the Qube engineers and I am really sorry about that incorrect information.

  • BT vision box

Hi my BT vision box has broken the HDMI port won't work, I've tried multiple cables and its defiantly not the cable or the TV that has a fault. I have just spoken to a VERY rude customer advisor who actually asked to speak to "the man" as I didn't understand what he was saying apparently. He is insisting that he needs to send out an engineer to install a new BT vision box...Is this normal practice? He said that a new one wont be able to be connected to my home hub, However, I am sure when I ordered BT vision 2 years ago (about a month after getting the Internet) that I didn't require a BT engineer to come out. I don't mind an engineer coming out but I am on nights all next week, and he will be coming between 1 and 6......Not ideal really.
sorry for the rant. Just want to make sure its essential for the engineer to come out.
    Thanks.
    Aimee

I had a faulty box with the same HDMI problem when I joined.
I think the engineer just makes sure it is the box at fault before he gives you a new one.
Just think of him as a nosey postman

  • A broken down Bt vision Box

Disheartened at the ever so convinient 5 hours slots engineer come in, and unwilling to take time off a new job, I asked Bt to send me a new box - here is the chase email - lets see hiow this goes.....
    100816-010428
I do not understand why it is taking so long to reply to my email from Monday the 16th August
The box is not working - it will not turn on. We have had no power cuts and there is nothing wrong with the plug so the fault lies in either the box or power cable
I am now suffering loss of service and loss of Sky sports for another weekend. As I have already explained I have no intention of taking half a day off work to wait for an engineer to tell me something I know already
I cannot understand the company's intransigence over this - the cost of replacing the box is less than the man hours would cost to send the engineer
If you want the faulty box back I'll send it via Royal Mail
    Pls respond

  • New BT Vision+ box always has red power light

My father has just re-subscribed to BT Vision and received a new Black Vision box. Setup went through OK. Update received and installed fine at first boot. However, the Power light has never changed from being red, not the record light, but the power light.
The Box is working fine, you can watch, record pause, rewind, on demand everything. But the power light refuses to change colour, as I understand it should show either Blue, Purple or Red. Well we've never seen either of the first two. Any ideas? We tried turning it off completely overnight - no change.

Sounds like it's faulty, ring the THD 0800 1114567 and get another one sent.

  • BT Vision Box is rebooting

About a month ago I got sent a new BT Vision Box and in the last few days it has started rebooting every 10 minutes or so
Beginning to get a little annoying .....
Does anyone have any experience of the same ?
    thanks

Every 10 minutes sounds like a faulty box, a software corruption or a bad mains supply. Check that the mains cable is fully pushed home at both ends.
    Is the box well ventilated?
    If that's all OK, ring support: 0800 111 4567
