Is the Flesch-Kincaid Readability test supported by Pages?If so, where/how?

Dear all,
I was told Pages had a feature to tell you the Flesch Reading Ease Score of your text, but I can't find it anywhere. I've searched the manual and the help and gone through every menu and sub-menu and Inspector palette I could find - without luck.
Any thoughts?
All the best,
Joseph

As far as I know, you can't use this feature directly.
The used formula is:
Pages may give us the number of words and the number of sentences, not the number of syllabs.
I looked in WordService, it doesn't give the syllabs count so, we can't do what you want.
But, maybe there is, somewhere buried in Unix components, a tool able to return this count of syllabs.

    My new wireless keyboard doesn't have a page down key. Very customer-hostile, at least in Office Apps. The list of available keyboard shortcuts doesn't inclue Page Down. Anyone know how to program a keyboard shortcut for Page Down?

    Figured it out: fn + down arrow

  • Flesch-Kincaid

    There was a 5 year old post asking about using the Flesch-Kincaid readablity index in Pages. I was hoping that there might be some new information out there on whether or not this is an option for Mac Pages users yet. Does anyone know if there is a download/upgrade or option to use this index in Pages now in 2010? I already know the formula and I know it can be used in Word, but I could really use it in Pages.
    Thanks-Tracy

    Nothing new about this third party tool.

  • What is the max number of hyperlinks supported in a PDF docment?

    What is the max number of hyperlinks supported in a PDF docment?
    How do I find out how many hyperlinks there are in a PDF document?

    I don't think there's a limit to the number of links you can add to a file...
    This code (taken from the reference files) will report the number of links in your file:
    var numLinks=0;
    for ( var p = 0; p < this.numPages; p++)
    var b = this.getPageBox("Crop", p);
    var l = this.getLinks(p, b);
    console.println("Number of Links on page " + p +" is " + l.length);
    numLinks += l.length;
    console.println("Number of Links in Document is " + numLinks);

  • Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease in JavaScript

    Hi,
    I'm making a PDF to test students' level of English and as an automated marking aid I would like to give each writing part a Flesch-Kincaid Reading Ease score automatically.
    I have found this website https://www.addedbytes.com/blog/code/flesch-kincaid-function/ which has the Javascript calculations but I need help incorporating it into my form.
    I've added the functions to the Document Javascripts but need it to look at a text field where a student would have typed and then to give the score in a separate text box.
    Is this possible with the code supplied? If so, any help getting it to work would be greatly appreciated.

    Thanks for the quick answer.
    That proves I'm not experienced enough with this to tell the difference between Java and PHP.
    Any experienced developers here fancy a challenge? In the meantime I'll Google to see if I can find the code in Java.

  • Server 2012 R2 SMB - The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.

    Hi,
    We are having issues with Server 2012 R2 SMB shares.
    We try to write some changes to a file, but we first create a temporary backup in case the write fails. After the backup is created we write the changes to the file and then we get an error:
    The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.
    It looks like the backup process keeps the original file in use.
    The problem doesn't always occur the first time, but almost everytime after 2 or 3 changes. I have provided some code below to reproduce the problem, you can run this in a loop to reproduce.
    The problem is that once the error arises, the file remains 'in use' for a while, so you cannot retry but have to wait at least several minutes.
    I've already used Process Explorer to analyze, but there are no open file handles.
    To reproduce the problem: create two Server 2012 R2 machines and run the below code from one server accessing an SMB share on the other server.
    Below is the code I use for testing, if you reproduce the scenario, I'm sure you get the same error.
    We are not looking for an alternative way to solve this, but wonder if this is a bug that needs to be reported?
    Anybody seen this behavior before or know what's causing it?
    The code:
    string file =
    @"\\server\share\test.txt";
    if (File.Exists(file))
    File.Copy(file, file +
    ".bak", true);
    File.WriteAllText(file,
    "Testje",
    Encoding.UTF8);
    The error:
     System.IO.IOException: The process cannot access the file '\\server\share\test.txt' because it is being used by another process.

    Hi,
    There is someone else having the same issue with yours. You could try code in the article below:
    “The process cannot access the file because it is being used by another process”
    http://blogs.msdn.com/b/shawncao/archive/2010/06/04/the-process-cannot-access-the-file-because-it-is-being-used-by-another-process.aspx
    If you wonder the root cause of the issue, the .NET Framework Class Libraries forum can help.
    Best Regards,

  • The images imported to my stage turn up as blank and render every image previous to the rogue imported image as red squares that fill the perimeters of the image which then renders the publishing and scene testing features in flash useless, what can i do

    I have been working on animating a scene in flash for a few weeks and recently I have encountered a problem with importing my images on to the stage where the images I import do not turn up, however the key frame that I attempted to import the image onto shows that it is occupied by an image and every frame previous to the key frame that just imported an image that does not show turns up as a red square that fills the original perimeters of the image, there is no solution to this problem any where on the forum and the adobe technical support staff will not help me find a solution to this problem what can I do to get Flash running normally again and fix this problem?????
    Also after the first time i publish a preview after i begin using flash, flash renders the publishing and scene testing features as useless and claims that there is no HTML template found, or if the images if i import any images onto the stage that come up blank and render every image previous to that image as a red square and then try and publish a preview  flash renders the publishing and scene testing features as useless and claims that there is no HTML template found. What can I do to fix this problem??? there is no solution on the web anywhere to this problem either.

    I don't know if Flash has a memory limit of its own. The memory for your Flash file is based on the available memory on your computer.
    There is a limit on the number of frames that you can have in any given timeline. I think that it's about 15000 frames, but that's a guess. Flash does all of its work at runtime, this means that no part of your animation is pre-compiled like it is in a video file. So the more objects that you have on the stage, the more work Flash has to do. It follows that the more objects that there are to animate, the more work your processor and the video card have to do.
