  • Aready had an account my computer crashed and had it repaired they put in a new hard drive now I can't install the new download how do i fix this

Already had an account had to have a new hard drive put in my lap top they wiped out my info I need to install the new download
but I keep getting an erroe message " unable to download itunes 64 setup exe. The connection to this server was reset". What do I do?

This completely *****. iTunes lists none of my music, although the music is on my iPod. When I click on the sync button, it starts to sync -- for about 5 seconds -- and does nothing. So I had to manually import all of my music from my hard drive into iTunes, but it still won't sync. Same thing with videos and photos.

  • Apple put in a new hard drive, but not the computer is VERY LOUD!

I just got my 13 month old Intel iMac back from the Apple store -- it needed a new hard drive. When I first turned on the computer, it was very loud, and I thought they gave me someone else's computer by mistake, so I checked the Serial Number, and apparently it's my computer.
I can't take this noise. What's going on? The fan wasn't broken, but this sounds like a new fan in the computer that is much louder than the old fan.
Also, the Apple geniuses told me the computer would use Time Machine to install all my old settings (I have an external hard drive hooked up to the iMac). But it's not working at all. Whenever I tell the new hard drive to "Restore to a Time Machine Backup" and select the backup hard drive, the computer screen goes gray, and it starts all over again (with the "Hello" screen in all the different languages.
Please help. I guess the MIP issue is the noise -- I can't work with a computer this loud. It gives me a headache. Should I just take it back to the Apple store, and have the noise fixed first? There never was a noise problem before I took the computer in for the broken hard drive.
    Thanks.

    HI,
    Try resetting the SMC. http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1543
If that doesn't help, take it back.
Tip... whenever you take a computer in for service and you pick it up, make sure it's running without problems *before you leave*. Especially in this case where you got it home and now have this noise issue.

  • Solutions for using jvc's new hard drive video cam

does anyone have any experience using jvc's new hard drive video camera (GZ-MG50U) with usb in puts on OS 10.3.9? any suggestions on software soltuions to edit captured video?

Just to give you a quick run down on what MPEG-2 is... it is a highly compressed format, meaning that the moment your footage was saved as an MPEG-2 file, information was thrown away. That's what compressors do, throw away redundant information such as color information. So technically, the image in MPEG-2 is not as good as if it were captured in DV... on the flipside of that, converting that DV footage into MPEG-2 would reduce the quality of the DV footage, so technically, you would be even at this point.
Where things get ugly is when you take that compressed footage and convert it into another format for editing. This process is lossless, but the file size bloats immensely in the process. Which means when you take that converted and edited footage and run it through the compressor again to convert it back into MPEG-2 so that you can burn it onto a DVD, it has lost still more information than the original footage that you shot. If you take any footage and run it through a compressor several times, it's like re-recording over the same VHS tape... each recompression reduces quality.
This is why you don't want a device to goes directly to MPEG-2, whether it be directly to a DVD disc or a hard drive. DV and HDV are both editable formats... yes you have to capture the footage and then convert it to MPEG-2, but you also have the opportunity to edit it along the way. Cameras that go straight to MPEG-2 assume that you don't intend to edit anything, just burn it to a disc and call it good... sort of like owning a disposable camera... you're buying the convenience of not having to do anything with it.

  • For restoring, does a new hard drive constitute a "new Mac"?

I have a current Time-Machine backup, and I replaced a failing hard drive with a brand new one.
But instructions for restoring an entire system via Time Machine differ, depending upon whether you're restoring "to the same Mac" (Time Machine is required) or "to a different Mac" (Migration Assistant is required).
While I am in fact restoring to the same Mac, if it has a new hard drive, does the OS consider that to be a "new Mac"?
I had trouble restoring from Time Machine, once before -- tricky business with user accounts, etc. -- so it's critical that I do this the correct way, so that I can inherit the existing Time-Machine backup history.

Thanks for the help. Unfortunately your answer is different from mende1's (above). So, I remain confused.  :-/
He says Time Machine will treat it as "the same."
You say Time Machine will treat it as "new."
To answer your questions, The backup is Mountain Lion 10.8.2.
Yes, I replaced the drive, myself, and it's working perfectly. Why is that relevant?
How do I restore the drive and maintain access to my Time-Machine backup history?
    Thanks.

  • Can I put a 1 TB hard drive on my early 2011 8gb/2.4 ghz 13' macbook pro

I would like to upgrade my early 2011 macbook pro with a 250 GB hard drive to a 1 TB drive.  Is this possible?  What internal hard drives will fit into the 13" macbook pro?  it has 8 GB of RAM and is the  2.4 GHZ model.
    Thanks Laurie

yes you can install the largest capacity HDD that you can find.  It must be 2.5" (3.5" are for desktops) and no more than 9.5mm in height.

  • Putting in a new Hard Drive

So i got the new Mac Pro 2008 model and im seeing the hard drive getting close to full. Time to look for something to drop in that 4th empty slot. And I'm thinking the 1TB bugger. Now my question is after i drop it say i get 2 of them and want to upgrade the "filled" drive should I just drop in and initialize the first 1 TB drive. Then shut down, remove the old one and swap out or is their something else i should be aware of?

Two ODD SATA ports that can be used internal or external and are bootable. I use one port for TimeMachine for drive external.
I even keep a 2nd drive with an older copy of TimeMachine just in case, which I update and plug in only on weekend.
You can slice and dice in half a dozen ways.
500GB = 465GB usable space, then take 50GB for safety.
1000GB = 933GB, and 'after taxes' etc comes in around 800GB I would guess.
External dual SATA case from OWC www.macsales.com black $67 and NewerTech SATA extender w/ PCI $24. Even if you only use case for one drive.
SATA + FW cases can run $109 and some seem to have sluggish performance due to the case's FW/SATA bridge.
It really sounded like your were RAIDing the 500's for your system when I first read your question.

Virtually any DVD burner that can connect to your Mac will work. They start at $40 on Amazon.
