Is there a preinstalled/preconfigured Oracle VM (Virtual Machine) ?

I would like to play around with Oracle and in the past it has been a PITA to install it or set it up. Has Oracle created a developer version running on Linux that developers can use to learn how to interact with it?
Thanks

Are you looking for a preconfigured version of Oracle Database? If so, then yes -- you can download preinstalled templates for Oracle VM from eDelivery for Oracle Database 10g and 11g.
If you're just looking for a database, why not try [Oracle XE|http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/database/xe/index.html]? Free to use and comes in a handy RPM format for EL-based distributions. Includes APEX as well.

  • Oracle BPM Virtual machine

I recently downloaded and set up Oracle BPM virtual machine on 64 bit windows 7 enterprise edition.
When I started JDev 11.1.1.6 on virtual machine and tried to create BPM Project but it did not give me option to create BPM Projects. JDev 11.1.1.6 on virtual machine allows me to create BPM Project Templates etc instead of BPM projects where I was able to see this option on my local JDev 11.1.1.5.
Would like to know if this is a latest change in JDev features or is this some bug with the latest edition of virtual machine?

I am not sure about this but In also used to have a BPM suite with jdev on a linux VM. If this is the same one then it was only ever intended for workshops and the like and you will not get full functionality from the VM.

  • Oracle Linux virtual machines failing to boot

We have 2 oracle linux virtual machines on one host machine, both running Oracle Linux release 6 update 2 for X86_64. Both were built identically with oracle 11 installed on them. Both machines were working ok until this morning when the host machine rebooted. After the reboot, the virtual machines now hang during the boot process. The login prompt never comes up. The database does not start up on both machines. The machines are up enough that I could putty into them. In  startup.log, the following is listed for the two machines. One is named demo, the other test.

The demo machine is looking for a redo log file. The file does not exist. If that file ever existed, what would make that file disappear? The test machine does not have any redo log files either but the test one is not even looking for it.
What could have gone wrong with these?

  • Oracle BigDataLite Virtual Appliance confirmation

I'm trying to follow the instructions for installing the
    Oracle BigDataLite Virtual Appliance
    Oracle BigDataLite Virtual Machine
    I'm running VirtualBox 4.3.6
    7-Zip 9.2
Running on Windows 7 Home Premium 64 SP1 with AMD FX 8120 with 16 GB (a stock aspire M3450)
And there seems to be a disconnect in the PDF for the quickdeploy, as if in the rush to create the quick deploy document something was left out, or the process was not tested before posting for download
    Specifically: from the PDF
After all zip files are downloaded, extract them with 7zip.
    In Windows:
Right-click on file BigDataLite-xxx.zip.001 file and select 7-zip->Extract Here
The extraction will create the BigDataLite-xxx.ova appliance file.
Well the above is NOT happening
First the files are named at OTN as
    BigDataLite-2.4.1.001
    BigDataLite-2.4.1.002
    BigDataLite-2.4.1.003
    BigDataLite-2.4.1.004
    BigDataLite-2.4.1.005
    BigDataLite-2.4.1.006
Not as the naming convention in the PDF documentation which is requesting a .zip.001 extension
Can someone run a confirmation that a ova file can be created?

    Thanks for replying:
I'm getting the correct checksum for 4-5-6
What seems to be happening is that I'm getting a bad download

I'm downloading "yet again", even if you did get good files then could you do me the favor of downloading any of the three and confirming the issue?
Possibly tossing a file in some dropbox app that works?
I hate asking, but what you got at dev-days on media might not be the same?
I'll give you a helpful for the response, but honestly I usually don't mess these things up, get to one reston way myself... and believe there is an issue
    But again thanks
    BigDataLite-2.4.1.004, BigDataLite-2.4.1.005, BigDataLite-2.4.1.006 were correct

  • Dadenie virtual machine based on Linux 5.7

Linux Operating System is installed on a virtual machine that is deployed on VSphere 4.0. On the virtual machine deployed database Oracle 11.2.0.1.
The other day there was the fall of the virtual machine with the database. First, the process was killed DBW0 respectively, and stopped the database.
After that, after some time the process has caused vmmemctl oom-killer, and the operating system to hang.
Tell me because of what might fall in a virtual machine and in what direction to dig. Download the database is minimal. In this night it did not loaded.

It looks like you are experiencing low memory exhaustion. The kernel uses low memory to track allocations of all memory. When low memory is exhausted, it doesn't matter how much high memory is available, the oom-killer will begin killing processes to keep the server alive.
I suggest you check your host and guest memory usage and allocation in VSphere, and make sure it supports your guest systems. Chances are probably that you do not have enough physical RAM to perform the tasks, or do not have enough memory allocated to your virtual machine, or have a process in your guest system that causes memory starvation because it is not configured correctly, e.g. Oracle SGA.

  • Can't create Virtual Machine

I want to create Virtual Machine used iso image (Oracle Enterprise Linux 5 update 3). I use one Shared pool master & Utility Server (in same machine), and 2 Virtual Machine Servers. I can't create Virtual Machine it display Error and log display My iso file doesn't exit! and Server Name display N/A.
and I have 1 question about topology
Once I create Server Pool I choose
    - Shared Pool Master , Utility Server , Virtual Machine Server (by default) but when I add Server (choose Virtual Machine Server)
Then I deselect Virtual Machine Server in Server Pool
I'm not sure that Server Pool can be only Shared Pool Master and Utility Server OR Shared Pool Master , Utility Server , Virtual Machine Server (by default)
    Thank you so much

    Hi Fujimaru,
a.) In each server pool, each server can have different responsibilities. In a server pool there exists exactly one server pool master, multiple (at least one) utility servers and multiple VM servers.
These roles can be on one host or distributed. So yes one server with all three roles is possible (that is the standard if you only have 1 server in your server pool).
b.) There are 2 types to create virtual machines from installation media.
If you create a PVM (paravirutalized guest) which is recommended for Linux, then you have to use an NFS share with the .iso file extracted, and cannot use the ISO file directly.
If you create a HVM (hardware virutalized guest) you can use an ISO file.
However this ISO must be imported first into the OVM Manager (Under Resources, ISO Files).
For this the ISO have to be placed in a subfolder under the iso_pool folder (in an OVS repository, e.g. /OVS).

  • Virtual Machines disappear from Hyper-V Manager on reboot

I have a Windows 2012 RC server that has fail-over clustering installed (single server at the moment), and it has an iSCSI disk that is configured as a CSV volume.  When I create a new VM in Hyper-V Manager, I am storing the .vhdx and machine definition
on that CSV.  Everything is good until I reboot the server.  Once I do that, the VM disappears from the Hyper-V console even though the symbolic link to the server still exists in C:\ProgramData\Microsoft\Windows\Hyper-V\Virtual Machines.
I have tried to add the VM to the cluster manager (Configure Role...High Availability Wizard), but it fails with no error message that indicates why it is failing.  I get the following two errors in the report:
An error occurred while configuring the virtual machine configuration resource 'Virtual Machine Configuration MYVM' with information about the virtual machine.
    and
There was a failure configuring the virtual machine role for 'MYVM'.
Please, override 'Header' property The object has been deleted from the cluster.
The first error occurs after "Notifying virtual machine configuration resource 'Virtual Machine Configuration BUF-FS-SQL' that its configuration has changed..."
I sense it might be related to permissions on the CSV, but not sure what permissions may need to be set?
    Thanks,
    Bob

That did not work.  VM still does not show up after restart. I have tried to import the VM from the original location on the CSV, but I get:
"Hyper-V encountered an error while loading the virtual machine configuration from C:\ClusterStorage\Host\Hyper-V\Virtual Machines\Test\Virtual....\GUID....
Hyper-V encountered an error trying to access an object on computer 'localhost' because the object was not found.  The object might have been deleted, or you might not have permission to perform the task.".....

  • Do mobile apps developed with Flash Builder 4.5 rely on a redistributable or virtual machine?

I'm very new to Flash Builder 4.5 and am still trying to get my head around it.  I'm freelance and my primary code pimp has asked me to justify using FB 4.5 to develop mobile apps rather than something like PhoneGap or native SDKs (Objective C, Java, etc.).
I'm quite impressed with FB 4.5 and it seems quite plain to me that FB 4.5 tries very hard to provide all the tools necessary to create iOS/Android/Blackberry apps all from a single code base but I'm wondering a few things:
    1) Does this require the use of a redistributable or virtual machine?  I'm wondering both from a performance standpoint but also just to understand better how FB 4.5 provides this magic one-project-for-all-platforms capability.  I'm guessing there must be some kind of virtual machine abstraction in use -- or does FB 4.5 generate a fully native application for each platform without the need for a machine abstraction layer?
    2) Has anyone encountered a situation where any of the target platforms lack features or behave differently?  E.g., "I cannot access some hardware feature like the accelerometer on Android under certain conditions."
    3) Can anyone speak to the relative benefits or penalties that FB 4.5 offers relative to PhoneGap or other HTML 5 solutions?

Try to avoid using MX components in mobile apps.

  • C# - Get Azure virtual machine status

Hey, how I can get virtual machines current status using C# code?
When you open Azure portal and you navigate under "Virtual Machines" you can see all your virtual machines there.
You can also see virtual machines status, example "running", "stopped", etc...
My question is that, how I can get this status using C# code? One VM is status "Running" and another VM is status "Stopped".
I have tried several different approaches:
    However, none of them work...
    Console.WriteLine(role.RoleName);
    //Console.WriteLine(role.ResourceExtensionReferences[0].State); // returns "Enable"
    //Console.WriteLine(deployment.RoleInstances[0].PowerState); // returns "Started"
//Console.WriteLine(client.Deployments.GetBySlot("demovm", DeploymentSlot.Production).Status); // returns "Running" both cases, which is wrong.
Any help, how I can get status "Running" and "Stopped", using C# ?

    Hi Nicolas,
We can use Get Deployment Rest API to get Azure VM status, please try below code. You must make sure that the request that is made to the management service is secure. For additional details, see
    Authenticating Service Management Requests.

    string path = string.Empty;
    string btn = string.Empty;
    string HostServiceName = "<Azure VM name>",

  • IOPS metering of Hyper-V virtual machines.

    Hello,
In Hyper-V there is very usefull resource metering, which shows AggregatedAverageNormalizedIOPS.
Also in Hyper-V is storage QoS, there you can limit IOPS of Virtual Machines vhdx files.
These IOPS which are shown by hyper-v resource metering and used for QoS are the same IOPS. I mean if I limit VM to 500 iops then and resource metering show maximum 500 iops.
I really need to monitor these IOPS in SCOM 2012 R2. Need to see lets say all VMs IOPS in single chart. How to make it ?

It is the only related MP I can find. If it cannot meet your requirement, I think you need to author one based on PowerShell script. The link below is for your reference.

  • VM Manager doesn't recognize virtual machine

    Hi there.
I've created 2 virtual machines (Red Hat with EBS-12i), a vision and a fresh install and I have the VM manager installed in another machine. It all worked fine untill the day that I had to move the machines to another place and I was forced to change the IP of the machines.
After I made the IP changes I lost the access to the vision virtual machine, the VM manager sees the fresh VM but doesn't sees the vision.
Do you know if there is a tool that can probe the VM server to search for the virtual machines or the configuration file where there is the location of the VM?
    Thanks and regards,
    Ricardo Vilhena

On the Resources tab of VM Manager, select "Virtual Machine Image" and then import --> From Server Pool. It will find all the running VMs that exist in /OVS/running_pool/ that are not already being managed by VM Manager.

  • After restoring from TC from Yosemite to Mavericks, I lost my Parallels virtual machine.  Any way to restore?

My situation was that my older iMac met the bare minimum requirements to use Yosemite so I went for it.   It was super slow so I decided to go backwards from Yosemite back to Mavericks.
I booted in the internet recovery mode and restored from my TC backup.   Took a long time (like 9+ hours) for this process to run its course.  When it completed, all appears well except that it seems I've lost the virtual machines I had installed using the software Parallels.  This makes sense I guess as my hard drive was wiped to make room for it.  It didn't hit me that this would happen as when I upgraded to Yosemite it was working just on that part of the hard drive.  Just ran with going backwards (my fault) for not thinking that the entire hard drive would be wiped.
So, long intro to asking, is there any way to restore that virtual machine from a TC backup?  Not sure if those files are saved somewhere on the Mac or in TC to somehow restore?
    Thanks.

Boot to the Recovery Volume (command - R on a restart or hold down the option key during a restart and select Recovery Volume). Run Disk Utility Verify/Repair and Repair Permissions until you get no errors. Erase and format the hard drive (Mac OS Extended (Journaled). Then reinstall the OS. Use Setup Assistant to transfer from Time Machine.

  • Preinstalled ODI on Virtual Machine

    Hi,
Does anyone know where can I find Preinstalled ODI Virtual Machine which Oracle uses for developers day ? I need to do inhouse training and want to install it on each candidates laptop. Any pointer would be greatly appreciated.
    Thanks & Regards

    Hi,
I don't think such a VM would be publicly available. However there is a demo environment which can be help you achieve your objective.
You need to download the companion version of ODI i.e
    from the below link
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/middleware/data-integrator/downloads/index.html
choose to download "Oracle Data Integrator Companion 11gR1 (11.1.1.7.0)"
This comes with a built in demo environment built on a HSQL repository which can be used for Training and Learning purposes and is very easy to configure and get it running.
There is no need to install this, and can simply be copied over to different machines.
Refer this doc for detailed instructions -- > http://docs.oracle.com/cd/E15586_01/integrate.1111/e12641/install.htm , section 2.3 Installing the Demonstration Environment
