That is not legit, it is a scam to gain access to your computer and information.

Received a notice saying my computer is infected, wants to install MacProtector.mpkg. Is this legit?

It's a varient of the MacDefender antivirus scam.
For those infected with the MACDefender malware, the following steps are recommended:
1. Open Applications > Utilities > Activity Monitor and quit any processes linked to MACDefender.
2. Delete MACDefender from the Applications folder.
3. Check System Preferences > Accounts > Login Items for suspicious entries
4. Run a Spotlight search for "MACDefender" to check for any associated files that might still be lingering.
Change all the names above to MacProtector.

I got an email saying my account was suspended until I verify my account info, is this legit?

No, it's a phishing scam. Ignore it and do not click on any links. If you want to check your account is OK go directly to http://appleid.apple.com .

• What is the recommended security software for MacPro? I am getting popups, including offer to sell Mac Sheild. Is this legit?

What is the recommended security software for MacPro? I am getting popups, including offer to sell Mac Sheild. Is this legit?

No, it is not legit, it's a scam. Avoid such popups and DO NOT under any circumstances fall for any claims that your system has been infected by viruses and download any of this "scareware". See:
http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4650
For additional information, see also:
http://www.reedcorner.net/news.php/?p=138
http://www.reedcorner.net/guides/macvirus/
If you do a forum search on Mac Defender, Mac Protector or Apple Security Center (this fake has a lot of different names) you will also find a lot of threads about this.
The most recommended "security software" is "none", beyond common sense and normal caution. If you do, however, decide you wish to run antivirus software, I think that the donationware clamXav should be more than enough provided you remember to scan your system from time to time. iAntivirus has also been recommended by others, though I have no personal experience with it.
If you are running Windows on your system, either via BootCamp, Parallels Workstation or another solution, then that copy of Windows is subject to all the myriad exploits common to the Windows world, so you need to take full precautions, including running both antivirus and antispyware software.
Regards.

• I keep getting a box asking me to upgrade the system. The box has a click for more info, but when I click it will not open. The overall box stays on the screen only a few seconds. I cannot be sure that this is not a scam.

There are no details about which version the update applies to.
I cannot be sure that this is not a scam so I have not uploaded it. The fact that the box stays on the screen for only a few seconds, before the regular Firefox screen opens, suggests that the box wants the user to make a quick, uniformed, decision, and to press "Next" rather than find out about the changes.

Did you ever install a Firefox 4 beta (or RC) version in the past?
It is possible that you are still on the beta update channel if you ever installed a Firefox 4 beta version or a release candidate.
You can check that by looking at the pref app.update.channel on the about:config page.
If the value of that pref is beta then it is better to download and install the latest Firefox 4.0.x release.
You can find the latest Firefox 4.0.x on this site:

• I rcvd an AppleService emaiDue to recent updates we are asking many of our customers to confirm their information this is nothing to worry about. We are making sure we have the correct information on file..." Is this real or a scam?

I rcvd an AppleService email
Due to recent updates we are asking many of our customers to confirm their information this is nothing to worry about. We are making sure we have the correct information on file and that you are the rightful account holder. Failure to comply with this may result in your account being suspended.
Is this real or a scam?

If you changed your Apple ID, you will not be able to update any of the content that you used in the past. The worse case scenario here would have been to change the password. Really all you needed to do was go on the Apple site and change the password, unless you provided them with information. This will make it difficult for you to deal with turning off Find My iPhone and other Apple ID related steps. All you really needed to do was delete the email.

On Instagram you offer a free iPhone for 20K tagers and followers, is this true or a scam.

It is definitely not an Apple promotion. Whether it's a genuine offer from someone else we don't know but it sounds rather unlikely.

Apple requests that you forward these types of emails to them as follows (from http://support.apple.com/kb/HT4933):
If you receive a suspicious email, select the message text so that it is highlighted. Choose Forward as Attachmentfrom the Message menu (OS X Mail) or the Actions menu (Outlook). Send the email to [email protected] This provides Apple's legal department and law enforcement with useful information to help prevent future phishing emails.
