Isp help

I need help in picking a isp. I am currently using verizon as an isp but am having trouble attaching jpgs to messages (and other issues). verizon is no help saying it is a mac thing. I used a friends excite account with no issues.
anybody recommend a mac frendly isp?
Thanks

This is an addition to the above post. A friend said I might be having a proxy issue that will not allow me to attach files to my e-mails?

  • E4200 static ip from ISP help...

    Hi, all.
I have an E4200 that used to work properly with our ISP until we had to perform a reset.  It lost all of its settings, of course and now we're just trying to get it back online.
The info provided from our ISP is as follows:
    Network ip address
    Gateway
    Subnet
    Usable Range
    DNS1
    DNS2
I entered the above info. into the network setup fields (with the exception of the usable range ip addresses since there were no fields for that), saved, and rebooted the router.  It still will not work properly.  I can't get past the router and in the Cisco quick utility on my phone, for instance, shows no ip address provided from the ISP.
Any ideas?  Is there some setting I overlooked?
    Thanks for the help!

Hi there! Are those settings for the router configuration or for your computer? If those are for the router, this article from Linksys is helpful  : http://kb.linksys.com/Linksys/ukp.aspx?vw=1&docid=91dbbf0c772e48b9bebee106abb837c9_3979.xml&pid=80&r...

  • Change of ISP password stops mail sending from iPad

My ISP has a glitch in connecting to hotmail.  They have incorrectly claimed to have fixed it but, in doing so, advised that some domain mail would not work without the domain mail password being changed.
I have changed the password in my desktop but changing it in my iPad mail has killed sending mail.  Not only from my domain mail but also my personal mail and my gmail.
Failed mail goes into my personal mail, outbox.  Very odd.
Nothing will go and the ISP help desk seems to be at a loss.
I can't check the outmail server settings on the iPad, though the in-mail is still correct.  (How can I check the out gate, BTW?)
Anyone have a solution?  To think one change - the domain mail password - could damage all mail.
    Grateful for solutions, please.
    Thanks
    Ron

As noted, yes there is an easy way to check the Outgoing server settings.

  • Wireless and hard wired router giving me an error message, network cable unplugged

I have  two Linksys routers, WRT54G and the BEFSR41.  Have run the install disk on both, but once I link my CAT 5 Etehrnet cables to the router, I get the unplugged netwrok cable error.  I have internet access through my cable modem directly to the PC, but once I run the connection through the router I get the error.  Linksys help line was lost, as was my ISP help line.  Tried assigning IP, physically unhooked and rehooked all the cables, etc., etc.,  I thought maybe I had a bad router with the hard wired, but wireless is same error.  Any suggestions??

    Try this setting:
    1)  Lower down the Ethernet card speed to 10Half Mbps .....
    2)  Use any other cable ...
    3)  if still you are getting same error ..... reset the router for few seconds .....
          See if it works ....

  • Upgrading from OS 8 to OS 8.5 and then to 8.6.

    Hello,
I would like to know, please, if I need to reinitialize my hard drive on a Performa 6220 CD (Power Pc) in order to install OS 8.5 over my OS 8.0 and the subsequent upgrde to OS 8.6? I do not know if a computer this old will allow OS 9.0 and I need to get an operating system that will put "Apple Remote Access" into my control panels. I realize it is part of the Open Transport system which is way above my head. I am trying to set up this computer with a dial-up ISP for a friend, and I can never find plain old "Apple Remote Access" in the control panels for which the ISP help line personnel keep asking. I am using a 56K Supra Express modem, but cannot make a connection. Please, does anyone have suggestions? Thank you.
6220 CD   Mac OS 8.6 or Earlier

Your computer is able to run Mac OS up to 9.1. If you were to install 9.1 I would recommend re-initializing the hard drive during the installation process.
As far as I recall you do not need to reformat the hard drive to install 8.5, but changes were made with the SCSI Manager so it's a good idea to at least update the drivers using Drive Setup. This is non-destructive, but it's still a good idea to backup beforehand.

  • Remote access to non mac e-mail account

My office is based in UK where I have a dual processor 1.8 G5. I use a 12" G4 laptop to pick up e-mails when travelling abroad. Currently, the only method that my ISP offers is a dial up account using a UK number that gets very expensive due to the number and size of the associated e-mail attachments. I understand there is a PC programme that allows a secure connection to the office PC through the internet hence giving access to my e-mails. However, my local Apple store cannot help with a MAC equivalent. From what I was told, Remote Desktop 3 does not seem to offer this facility. Neither can my ISP help as their webmail system only allows me to read certain size attachments and is very cumbersome to use.
    Can anyone help?

Well, one possibility is to enable Remote Access on your dp 1.8 G5, install X11 on your G4 laptop and Thunderbird on your dp 1.8 G5. Then you can use Thunderbird (running on your dp 1.8 G5) to read your email; from your laptop, start X11, and in the default xterm window do ssh -X <your dp 1.8 G5's IP-address or hostname>; after logging in, run Thunderbird. ssh will route the X11 requests from the Thunderbird client over its secure connection to your laptop's X11 server.

I would like if some one can send me a video tutorial on how to do it.
I have a website that I am runing so I guess I can use that if I need something like Hosting and Domain things.
I want to know if it is posible that I can some how configure it so I can view the camera on one of my websites page.
    For exaple: www.example.com/mycamera???
If not well I would love to here the options I have.
Thank you very much in advance!

    Rogerio,
I have never seen a router like you have and I wouldn't dare advise you about changing the settings. It appears that it is a router/modem that was provided by your ISP. If this is the case, I recommend that you call your ISP and ask them for Port Forwarding assistance. You need to forward port 80 to the LAN IP address of your camera. The LAN IP address of your camera is the IP address that you use to log into the web interface. You should not need to change any settings on the camera. After you have had the ISP help you forward the port to the camera, go to ipchicken.com and you will see your WAN IP address. Write that address down and then go to a remote location and type it into your web browser. You should get the login page of the camera. Note that your WAN IP is subject to change. You can ask your ISP to provide you with a static IP address which will be an additional charge each month but your IP address will not change. Another option is to use a service such as dyndns to create a unique URL that you can use to access the camera remotely even if your WAN IP address changes. We can discuss that after you get access to the camera if you have further questions.

  • "Connection reset" when trying to access Apple Discussion Forums

I am unable to log onto the discussion forums from my iBook since changing my ISP to a satellite Broadband service (Bordernet) in Australia. When I attempt to do so I get a message in my browser "The Connection was reset while page was loading."
I can access the site without problems from a PC on the same LAN without any difficulties - hence my ability to post this message.
Have also had some intermittent diffiulty in sending emails with (small) attachments (250-400k).
The ISP help desk suggested I reset the timeout in the Outlook Email program on the Windows machine to maximum. Did that, no change with the iBook.
Doesn't seem to be a issue of the Apple.com servers being overloaded, as I can fail to manage a log on with the iBook and easily do so with the Windows machine within seconds of switching machines.
I've also checked that passwords and logon name are the same on both machines.
Have tried connecting the satellite modem directly to the iBook as well as through the router (a D-Link 704-P) and the speeds are consistent -- so close to the same that they virtually identical.
Don't have any firewalls set on the iBook or through the router software, only on the Windows machine, and it is the one that works!
Have set up the proxies and port settings suggested by the ISP (10.16.143.73:9877) which result in a general speed increase earlier on, but did not solve this problem.
The people at the ISP haven't come up with an answer yet.
Is there a way to set the timeout on an ibook? (Altough I suspect that this is a red herring as I'm not so sure that settings in an email program will effect other internet settings as well...
Could there be other settings on the iBook that may be slowing things up enough to make this happen?
    Any ideas?

I'm going to assume you meant... "NsurlerrorDomain: -1005".
    Is it a Linksys Modem?
    By the way... NSURLErrorNetworkConnectionLost

Available in Mac OS X v10.3 and later.
Sooo, while it may be something as weird as Satellite alignment/interference, I've read that trashing the whole Users/nnn/Preferences Folder fixid it, but maybe installing Applejack...
    http://applejack.sourceforge.net/
Once installed, reboot, hold down the CMD+s keys, when the prompt shows, type in "applejack auto", (without the quotes), and let it run all 5 things in the series... thinking maybe a .cache is being held over from your previous setup!?
Anyway, once you really need Applejack, you can't install it or download it! :_)
Waiting to see if we get anywhere with this tact.
Oh yeah, that plist will be regenerated on a restart.

  • Unable to log onto broadband internet

Recently changed motherboard to K7N2 DELTA2-LSR. However I cannot log onto the internet from home using the onboard network card and ethernet modem.
When I try to make a new connection manually, the option "connect using a broadband that requires a user name and password" is greyed out. My ISP help desk says it's due to corrupted network hardware.
    How can I overcome this?
    Aztech ADSL ethernet modem
    Win XP Pro
    AMD Semprom 2400
    512MB ram

Just a thought, not all modems and routers are necessarily compatible.Go to Aztech's website and see iif possible firmware/driver update is available that might have the answer.A possible workaround would be to install a PCI card and disable onboard.

  • Slow outgoing email

Incoming mail is as quick as ever, but outgoing mail, even small or short emails take at least 30 seconds now, using either my iMac or Macbook.  It seems to have happened since I changed routers after the previous one failed.  My ISP help line couldn't help - they don't think it's the router settings, I've checked settings in Mail preferences, I've deleted old disused accounts & can't think what else to do.  It's not an enormous problem but I would like it to be as fast as it was previously.  There was a recent software update but I think that was just to Safari, nothing to do with Mail.  Connection doctor shows the SMTP accounts succeeding but taking a long time.  Thanks for any help.
    Janet

Janet, the genius bar couldn't help because my ISP blocks access except from clients' computers using their home wi-fi! Apple said Time Warner had been a consistent thorn in their side this way. You can't test email from the store, only from home!
Carlo, my only NON-apple account (I have two personal accounts) is a google account. So "Svynchronize all accounts" does not appear under the Mailbox menu, only "synchronize google."
Anyway, Janet and Carlo, both: thank you. I finally fixed the issue myself, by going back to the account settings and calling Time Warner. Turns out, one of their techs had long ago told me how to adjust the settings when I'm away from home, and I'd failed to RE-adjust them once back. The change was instantaneous once I made the minor corrections. So nice to have the instant WOOSH of outgoing mail back again :-)
And nice, too, to know there are helpful folks like you on the forum.

  • Pop account apparently storing multiple passwords in Mail

On my G5 desktop, when I check my email, I successfully receive all messages, but the mailserv indicates a failed password.(I am in direct voice contact with my mailserv administrator during the test procedures) The same issue does not occur with the same account on my Powerbook. I deleted and reinstalled the account on the G5. I also have a second account with the same provider and it works fine. I deleted the keychain items associated but still have the problem. I noticed that when I did not put the password in the software, and simply responded to the popup askeing for the password, I still got messages, but the number of failed password flags on the mailserv increased each time I responded to the popup. It appears Mail enters some sort of loop to check the mail, sending the correct password and then an incorrect password, or vice versa, in one mail check event.

Thanks for the help. My ISP helped resolve the issue.
For some reason, perhaps a manual adjustment made in error during original setup, the Authentication was set to NTLM instead of MD5 Challenge-Response.
The effect was to seek authentication as NTLM first, creating a "Failed password" error on the ISP operating log. The mailserv then cycles to to NTLM as an alternate, thereby allowing authentication and download of messages to the user.
The time delay is negligible, hence the User has no indication of the first check being made with the wrong authentication. Only the ISP could see the error as it was logged.
    Life continues.

  • I redid the account settings for the outgoing SMTP server like you told me, still doesn't work -w hat is the PORT #?

all of a sudden I can't send e-mails. Tried turning computer on and off - nothing. I went into account settings and noticed the port # was 25 and next to it it says default is 465 so I changed the port # to 465 - didn't help. I have no authentication already. IS there something else I should change? nothing looks out of the ordinary to me - I am completely lost - if you can help me I greatly appreciate it!!!

It looks like you have the SMTP set to use no password instead of normal password like your POP server.
ISP help desks are worthless as you have discovered.
There is no phone support for Thunderbird. Your ISP is doing you a disservice by giving you any number for Thunderbird. There are some people out there using the name and charging you for help. Be warned.
