Issue with Mail and Gmail

I'm trying to configure the built in Windows 8 Mail app to work with my custom domain.
GMail is configured where I have multiple email addresses -- both the @gmail.com address, but also with my own @example.com style domain.  From the browser, everything works as expected.
However, in the Windows 8 Mail app, it's greyed out:
Where is this coming from?  How can I configure this?
Help!
Dave

I can't solve it either, but would love an answer! Would save a LOT of headache.
I learned that outlook accounts do allow sending from aliases. So the work around I've set up is:
1) Create outlook email for my main/primary account
2) Create an outlook alias that is identical to my gmail alias (that's what those multiple from fields in gmail are treated as, aliases)
3) Set my gmail to forward to my outlook email
Now I receive email from that preferred work alias in my outlook account, and can send messages with the "From" field I need. All in one account in the Windows Mail App.
This is okay for now but quite sub-optimal, because with the forwarding there are sync issues, mail isn't delivered instantly (sometimes 20-30mns!) and I am getting duplicates all over the place. When I pause the gmail forward I get no messages, when I turn
it back on I get two copies of everything, not sure what that's about.

  • Issues with Mail and SMTP and Gmail Accounts

So this isn't a question....more like a solution that I had to figure out.
We have multiple gmail accounts in our family and after upgrading to OSC Yosemite our gmail accounts wen't haywire.  My wife was sending emails that eventually were sent from my gmail account (mass neighborhood emails at that.....and all replies came to me instead of her).  I spent about 2 hours investigating and put together several different threads that finally fixed out problem.  The root of the issue is that you can share the same Incoming Mail Server for all of your gmail accounts and your mail will go to the accounts that it is supposed to go to, but you have to have individual Outgoing Mail Servers for each of your accounts otherwise all outgoing mail will come from one account only.  I don't know why this happened, it is a pain in the butt, but here's how I fixed it with 3 gmail accounts running through 1 mac.
1st - you need to remove all of your gmail accounts from mail via Internet Accounts in Settings. Just highlight the account and hit the minus sign at the bottom.  You won't lose anything if you have your gmail settings set to default which backs everything up to Google's servers....it will all load back to you mac and it will all be available online at gmail.com
2nd - you need to add back all of your accounts one at a time (and follow all of the following steps for each account before adding another).  Select the plus sign and choose Google (for gmail accounts only).
3rd - Give your gmail account a recognizable name in the "Name" field (if you have multiple Gmail accounts to add, you will want to distinguish between them).
4th - type in your username ([email protected]) and password.  Make sure to add the suffix @gmail.com.
5th - Check the boxes that you want to add to your mac (mail, contacts, calendars, messages, notes).
6th - Click the "Details" button to ensure that you have an adequate description (see # 3 above) if you are going to have multiple gmail accounts to add.
7th - Open the Mail app.
8th - From Mail Preferences/Account Information Tab - make sure that you account is Enabled (check box next to "Enable Account", make sure that you have an adequate description name, email address is correct, Incoming mail server is imap.gmail.com, Username is your normal gmail login username (absent any suffix like .gmail.com), password is your gmail password.
9th - Then, from Preferences click on the Advanced tab and....Uncheck "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".
10th - Then, go back to Account Information Tab and.....from the Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP) dropdown box, select Edit SMTP List....
11th -  You need to create an individual SMTP Server Account for each gmail account that you plan to add.
12th - To do this click the plus button.  Server Name should always be smtp.gmail.com.  Type in your own Description (I recommend naming it after the gmail account that you plan to attach it to).
13th - TLS Certificate should be "None"
14th - Click the Advanced Tab - From here, uncheck the box for "Automatically detect and maintain account settings".  Then make sure Port is 587 (default is 25 for some ungodly reason).  Check the box for "Use SSL".
15th - Set authentication to "Password".  User name MUST contain a suffice (i.e [email protected]).  Password is your normal gmail password.
    16th - Click OK.
17th - Now your back at Preferences/Account Information - Link your account to the SMTP server that you just created by using the dropdown box next to Outgoing Mail Server (SMTP).
18th - Save all changes and close out of Mail App.
19th - Restart Mail and recheck steps 8-15....for some reason my passwords kept getting erased, but they eventually saved and took.
20th - Add another gmail account by following these steps and then recheck all along the way for passwords, suffixes, everything.  You will want to make sure that your accounts are all properly linked to their respective Outgoing Mail Servers (hence the distinct naming descriptions).
21st - Once you have added multiple accounts send email between them to make sure that they are being sent from and received to the correct accounts.

That's a ton of informatiion to take the time to write out step by step and share with strangers.  I really, really am grateful to you.  I've been dealing with this for a month, half the month I kept changing my passwords and kept assuming I was making some mistake.  It used to work fine.  About a week ago I started looking for a solution and couldn't find one that worked.
You have changed that sir!  I'm good to go, stress level will lower when I am on my Mac, and I'm so glad to not have all these messages popping back up that I was done with!

  • 10.4.8 update - issues with mail and airport

Gah! Just as I was signing up so I could post on this board, my airport connection went bye-bye.
Initially I tinkered with my router (linksys) settings. Recycled everything a bajillion times. Not sure what caused a partial resolution, but my connection is no longer crawling, but it drops a few times a day. The only solution at this point is to recycle modem and router and restart computer.
Now I am having issues with my mail application. Whenever I "get mail" I am prompted for my password. I type it in, plus check the box "add to keychain". App searches for mail. So I went into account prefs and noticed there is no password in the dialog box. I type it in. If I save and close the dialog and then reenter, the password is once again missing. Huh??
So I reinstalled with the combo update (I had previously installed via software update), verifying/repairing disk before, repairing permissions after.
I have removed the system config folder in order for the system to create a new one.
When I look in keychain access, the only thing in there is the airport login. I have also performed a keychain first aid. Nothing appears to be wrong.
    Any suggestions??
    I patiently await responses.
Oh, and I applied the first update in proper fashion as well. No weird third party stuff, etc. And I didn't have any of these issues pre-update...
    mbp   Mac OS X (10.4.8)

    1. Reset the router by holding down the button in the
    rear for 10 seconds.
I've done that ad nauseum, plus tweaked router settings, plus recycled modem/router many times. It does not appear to be a problem with the router hardware or software.
    2. Toss your Mail Account, and make a new one.
If indeed that is the solution, is there an efficient way to save/export messages so I don't lose them?

Mail keeps asking for my password and i go to safari enter my email and password exactly as i do in Mail and still does not work.  does anyone has any idea if I'm doing something wrong or is it Yahoo?

  • Issue with Mail and limited account rights

Has anyone else noticed similar problem as I did:
When you don't have permission to create new mailboxes to root of an mail account and then turn on automatic moving to Junk folder, and saving of sent messages on server, it just discards all Spam-marked and sent messages. By deafult at least Mail seems not to be able to handle similar folders created as subfolders of Inbox.
Issue is quite annoying, while account where these limited rights occur, is quite important and there is nothing I can do with the permissions.
I don't know if Mail worked correctly, when using only one account, but when using multiple accounts at least, this problem occurs. Is there any solution available?

All mailboxes under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash and Junk are account mailboxes (with the exception of the On My Mac named mailbox under Trash in the mailboxes drawer) which are created and managed automatically by Mail. You cannot create mailboxes/subfolders under In, Drafts, Sent, Trash or Junk.
The "On My Mac" named Trash mailbox under Trash in the mailboxes drawer is created automatically by Mail when selecting a message for deletion located in a user created "On My Mac" mailbox.
When switching to saving messages on the server for a .Mac or IMAP type account, I believe the existing messages in the locally stored Sent mailbox for the account should be transferred to the server stored mailbox which will be located under the IMAP account named icon in the mailboxes drawer.
Regarding switching Junk Mail from Training to Automatic, what is the setting under the Mailbox Behaviors tab for automatically deleting messages from the account's Junk mailbox?
The only mailboxes you can create are "On My Mac" mailboxes which are stored locally on the hard drive and if you have a .Mac or IMAP type account, you have an additional option for creating a server stored mailbox for the .Mac or IMAP type account which will be located under the .Mac or IMAP account named icon in the mailboxes drawer.

  • HT6030 I am still having problems with Mail and Gmail

    Using OSX 10.9 MacPro.
despinte installing the mail update on the 7th Nov 2013,  may mail does not sync and update with my gmail accounts accross my devices?
    what should I do?

as rediculous as this is, I enabled "all mail" under the labels, then went into the actual apple mail settings and checked some box about updateing immediately (for deleted items) . then I had to quit mail then open it back up  - it "appears" to have synced properly. I'll let you know if it all comes back, but this is really a pain in the butt, I swapped from Entourage a few months back because it started acting weird with gmail.
anyone have any other mail options if this continues to not work? I don't want to have to pull gmail in my browser to move read items each day.
    thanks for all the help.

  • Help with mail and gmail

I set up gmail but I dont want it to bring in all the old messages especially the unread junk mail which I just leave alone, sometimes I delete....
Anyhow how can i make it that it stops getting all 745 messages from previous and starts getting just new stuff

    Hi,
See this article with one explanation about doing this.

  • Issue with Mail and Office365

I'll start off by saying I work in IT support so I know my way around. I'm having problems seeing email in the native Mail app that came with my Macbook Pro.
I can add my Office 365 exchange account and download all the folders but Mail does not show anything in my inbox. Emails come in to my iPad and iPhone but when I try to read new email in my inbox, I see nothing. Also Mail would not quit when I removed my old IMAP account.
I got everything transitioned to the Exchange account using Outlook for Windows so I need to save nothing. I can see everything in the webmail so I know my email is working and delivering fine because it gets to the iPhone.
Needless to say my software is all up to date so I think I need to completely wipe out all my Mail settings and preferences. I've tried adding/removing/rebooting and always the same result: I see the folders and mail in the other folders, but no mail in my inbox.

I work in IT support as well. I have a client with a very similar problem. She is running Mac OS 10.7.5 on a MacBook Pro, and only sees about 60 - 70 of the messages in her inbox through the native mail app. She has well over 1000 in there if you look through our Office365 webmail interface. Her iPhone seems to get all the emails correctly. She has tried deleting and recreating the account setting with the same result. I cannot find a setting that would limit the number of emails she is seeing within the native mail app. I had seen one post that said if notes were checked to sync it would cause problems, but she does not have that checked. It also suggested setting up the account through the app instead of the system preferences, since notes is not an option that way. Her account was setup through the mail app last time instead of the system preferences, but we got the same results.

  • TS3276 I have issues with mail unexpectedly quitting, any suggestions?

Has anyone ever had issues with mail and/or Safari "unexpectedly quitting" repeatedly and the only thing that seems to temporarily fix it is to restart the computer?

Launch the Console application in any of the following ways:
☞ Enter the first few letters of its name into a Spotlight search. Select it in the results (it should be at the top.)
☞ In the Finder, select Go ▹ Utilities from the menu bar, or press the key combination shift-command-U. The application is in the folder that opens.
☞ Open LaunchPad. Click Utilities, then Console in the icon grid.
    Step 1
Make sure the title of the Console window is All Messages. If it isn't, select All Messages from the SYSTEM LOG QUERIES menu on the left. If you don't see that menu, select
    View ▹ Show Log List
    from the menu bar.
Enter the name of the crashed application or process in the Filter text field. Select the messages from the time of the last crash, if any. Copy them to the Clipboard (command-C). Paste into a reply to this message (command-V).
When posting a log extract, be selective. In most cases, a few dozen lines are more than enough.
Please do not indiscriminately dump thousands of lines from the log into this discussion.
Important: Some private information, such as your name, may appear in the log. Anonymize before posting.
    Step 2
Still in the Console window, look under User Diagnostic Reports for crash reports related to the process. The report name starts with the name of the crashed process, and ends with ".crash". Select the most recent report and post the entire contents — again, the text, not a screenshot. In the interest of privacy, I suggest that, before posting, you edit out the “Anonymous UUID,” a long string of letters, numbers, and dashes in the header of the report, if it’s present (it may not be.) Please don’t post shutdownStall, spin, or hang logs — they're very long and not helpful.

  • How do I sync Mail with Outlook and Gmail in browser?

I really like the Mail app in OS X, but I've noticed that it's not synced with the browser version of my email accounts, so anything I do in Mail (e.g. read an email, delete/trash it, etc) is only reflected within the app and not in my browser.
Just in case I didn't explain that properly: For example, if I read an email in Mail, and then switch to my Outlook account in Safari to check if that email has been marked as read, it would still appear as unread. If I delete and trash and email in Mac, that same email appears exactly where it used to be in Outlook, completely untouched.
This bothers me for two reasons. One, even if I were to stick with Mail and not touch my Outlook/Gmail accounts in Safari again, I still wouldn't like the idea of my inbox being all messy if I were ever to log back in. Two, Mail doesn't seem to have any options to create folders and subfolders as far as I'm aware, so my emails which are very neatly organized in Outlook are all lumped together in Mail's inbox. So even though Mail is a neat little app, I still have Outlook and Gmail bookmarked.
I'd like to know if there's a way to sync Mail with my email accounts in-browser, so that any changes I make in the app also show up when I log into my actual accounts? Maybe I'm just missing something or if this is not possible at all, please let me know. Thank you!

You have to set those accounts up as IMAP. Right now you probably have them set up as POP3 accounts.
Pop3 account are one way. You download your mail to your computer and send mail from your computer and it all stays on that particular computer. Imap stores everything on the mail providers server. Incoming and outgoing mail is always on the imap server and can be gotten on multiple devices. All sent mail is store on the server also and can be viewed from multiple devices.
With outlook that might not be possible. Not sure if individual outlook accounts can use imap. I do know that the office365 side can as that is what my company uses and some people are using macs and other email program other then ms outlook.

Is Mail still "spinning"?  If it's been doing that for a while, I'd kill it, using either Activity Monitor or the OS X application picker.  Then relaunch Mail and see what happens.
    Two "by the ways":
    1) Your system details mention an PPC iMac.  Since a non-Intel Mac can't run OS X 10.6, you seem to have another Mac.  You might want to consider updating your system details.
    2) You seem to have been misled by the poor labeling of the message composition fields on this forum into trying to enter your entire post into the "subject" field.  In the future, just enter a summary of your post there and the main text into the field below it.

  • Apple Mail and Gmail IMAP

With the iPhone coming to Verizon soon, I'd like to move back to Apple Mail from Gmail, but still want to keep Gmail as my source because my domain is setup with Google Apps but mostly because of the unparalleled spam filtering Gmail has. My problem is that even though I've configured Apple Mail exactly as Google recommends (shown below), I still have some issues.
From the Mail menu, click Preferences > *Accounts > Mailbox Behaviors*
    Drafts:
Store draft messages on the server > *do NOT check*
    Sent:
Store sent messages on the server > *do NOT check*
    Junk:
Store junk messages on the server > checked
Delete junk messages when > Never
    Trash:
Move deleted messages to the Trash mailbox > *do NOT check*
Store deleted messages on the server > *do NOT check*
I want to have true IMAP functionality here, but I'm not getting it. Sent messages work fine...if I send a message, it shows up in Apple Mail in the Sent folder and when I go to Gmail it is also in the Sent folder. BUT...when I delete a message in Apple Mail it goes to the Gmail *All Mail* folder (in Apple Mail and Gmail) and never shows up in the Gmail Trash on either Apple Mail or Gmail...where it should. I've tried changing the settings under *Apple Mail > Trash* but that doesn't fix the problem.
I realize some of you might be inclined to say "It's Google problem...ask there" but I'm hoping a Gmail user here might have had this same issue before. Even as a dedicated Apple person for many years, I still can't give up Gmail and their spam filtering that Apple Mail can't come close to. Thanks for any suggestions.

Thanks, Andy. I should have posted a closure statement on this thread as I finally figured everything out. The most frustrating thing is Google's own advice at http://mail.google.com/support/bin/answer.py?answer=78892# couldn't further from correct. After many hours of experimenting with settings, I finally came up with the correct ones. In fact, I'm in the process of writing an article about it since there is simply no definitive guidance on the web that I've been able to find in the time I've searched.
Your comments are on target...everything on the *Behaviors Tab* needs to be checked (excepts Notes) and the *Delete when* settings must be set to Never. But there are a few other things that must be done, including some changes on Gmail Settings before Mail and Gmail will be perfectly synchronous. I'll post the entire solution on this forum when I finish the graphics.

  • Mail and Gmail IMAP

Hello, having weird and annoying issues with Mail application.
Sometimes my ports just switch by themselves from 587 to 25 for SMTP. Is there a reason for it? Any fixes? Can't provide more details on this, very random.
After working 3 or so days my Gmail account stops working. Asks for passwords but it never accepts it. My office POP account also stops working. Have to restart the mac couple times to get the connections working again.
Are there any recommendations? Thanks in advance.

In the list of available SMTP servers to use as the Outgoing Server, is there more than one entry for the Gmail server? If or when pared down to only one, have you selected "use this server only"?
What model Mac are you using, and how much free, available, disk space do you have on the hard drive, or if partitioned, on the boot partition?

  • Mail and Gmail two-step verification

For the last several days I've been encountering an issue with Mail.app and gmail where my application specific password is valid for one day only. This is not the case for the application specific password I have set up to work with Mail on my iPhone or any other apps. I have used two step verification successfully for months until one day, inexplicably, I was alerted that my password was incorrect. As I mentioned, this happens now on a daily basis.
For what it's worth, I've tried what's listed in this thread to no avail.

    Any help would be appreciated.

    Hi All,
I used to have that sort of problem,
first you could go to the connection doctor on you mac (it's on your 'Window' - > 'Connection Doctor' )
then check if your google account 'Smtp tab ' and 'Imap tab '  are all on the green light
If one of it is not connected ( Which means 'red' light ) , here is my solution .
Go  your keychain access ( comman + space 'keychain' )
    click tab 'LOGIN'
On the search tab Find either SMTP/IMAP  (Depend which got the red light)
There will be several accounts shown up if you have multiple email account registered on you mac mail.
find manually the account of your gmail account (Double click each one of it to check which account it )
Check again if you have 2 key chain on one single account
After you find your google account on your key chain  and check the box "SHOW PASSWORD"
Change the password according to the google 2 step verification password
click save changes .  (enter your admin password)
    Hope this will help
