... it says I need to authorize again. When I do it each time it says I've used 3 or my 5 but then I say OK and try to play the song again and it brings up the name/password box, and I go around and around. I've deauthorized the computer, and authorized it again but no change: says 3 out of 5 again. Some songs play, some don't.

That suggests the track is damaged.
If your country's iTunes Store allows you to redownload purchased tracks, I'd delete your current copy of the track and try redownloading a fresh one. See the following document for instructions:

Otherwise, I'd report the problem to the iTunes Store.
Log in to the Store. Click on "Account" in your Quick Links. When you're in your Account information screen, go down to Purchase History and click "See all".
Find the item that is not playing properly. If you can't see "Report a Problem" next to the item, click the "Report a problem" button. Now click the "Report a Problem" link next to the item.

When you look at your iPhone, are you looking in the Music app or in the iTunes app? Be sure you are looking in the Music app, and look in the Songs category. If your songs are not here, you may want to try syncing your information again through iTunes. To do this, uncheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync in the bottom right corner of iTunes, and then recheck "Sync Music" and then click apply or sync again.

How can I make my Apple TV more reliable? It takes a day to download a HD movie on a T1 to play later, but when I try to play the movies, Apple TV can't, and says try again later. Doesn't the day download time put the HD movie on the Apple TV device?

How can I make my Apple TV work? I downloaded two movies, to play later, on April 4, 2014. I tried to watch them this evening only to get a message they are not available and to try later. How long can it take Apple to download the movies? I encourage anyone thinking about buying an Apple TV to get a different media player that is reliable. Try the following steps, check whether things are working after each step where appropriate, before trying the next.
Restart the Apple TV (Settings > General > Restart).
Restart the Apple TV by removing ALL the cables for 30 seconds.
Restart your router.
Reset the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Reset all settings)
Restore the Apple TV (Settings > General > Reset > Restore)

My partner deleted my itunes (10) library. I use a WD external back-up and retrieved my itunes library, but when i try to play a song i get the message 'could not be used because the original file could not be found Would you like to locate it?'

My partner deleted, by accident my itunes library. I have an iMac 10.6.7, Itunes 10. I use an WD passport as an external back up and retrieved my itunes library but now get the message "could not be used because the original file could not be found. Would you like to locate it?" so itunes is not recognised the exclamation marked songs, how do i get the retrieved files recognised. At times I get fed-up with Apple blocking files being used, although I like the product its restrictions are so silly!

You not only have to retrieve the library file from the backup drive but the actual music files (usually stored within the "iTunes Media" folder) as well.

Okay so I bought a song called Harlem by New Politics today off ITunes but when I clicked to play the song it said 'This computer is not authorised to play "Harlem".' So, I authorise it and I still can't play it! And no, it won't play on my IPod.

5th gen touch downloads audiobooks but when i try to play, the screen "bounces back" and I can't. Help me please!

This just started happening. I have no idea why. The ipod is new. The audio book downloaded in itunes fine. It shows up on my ipod. I touch the screen and pic of the book and the screen scrolls to the "play screen" and then bounces back so I cant play it.

Try:
- Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost

- Unsync all audio booksand resync
- Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.

I bought an ipd shuffle for my daughter. I have old songs from frostwire that I downloaded on the shuffle. When I try to play the songs, I get "Please use Itunes to sync music". What does that mean?

Dear jester,
Apple created iTunes to try and stop piracy, and if you look at the lime wire site, it says they were shut down for piracy.
You will have you buy all the music through iTunes or you can download music to iTunes from a CD.
