"Itunes has stopped working" in Windows Vista 64bit

I am at my wits end!  My I tunes will usually load but if it opens in my library and I try to access the Itunes store it always crashes with the "Itunes Has Stopped Working" error message.  "Windows is checking for a solution" follows but nothing is ever found.
I've tried completely removing Itunes and reinstalling. I've tried updating all drivers including the one for my ATI video card. I've scanned for viruses and maleware.  I even downgraded from Itunes 10 to Itunes 9 which seemed to work for about a day.
I've also done the sfc /scannow which showed some file issues but none that looked to be a problem.  One thing....my Gateway PC came preloaded with Windows Vista and I do not have an installation disk.
When I check the details on the crash this is the info that I get:
I've tried just about everything I could find I still keep having this problem.  Usually Itunes will start but if I click on a song in my library or try to go to the Itunes store it will crash.  Here is the info I get about the crash:

Does anybody have any ideas or hints?  Would upgrading to Windows 7 potentially fix this problem?
HELP!!!!!

If we're talking about the (third-party, not-produced-by-AMD) ATI Tray Tools utility, the drivers for the utility are a bit scruffy. They've caused some trouble for the QuickTime Player since before the itunes versions 10.x came out, but after a while the issues started to ramify through to iTunes as well as QuickTime. The precise nature of the symptoms seems to depend on which combination of iTunes/QuickTime versions and ATI Tray Tool versions you've got, too.
On a 64-bit system, it's probably worth trying first adding iTunes.exe to the Auto 2d/3d and osd exception list. But just recently someone got past this sort of thing by disabling "Show FPS" on a 32-bit system:

    Hi,
    I need help!
Everytime I try to open iTunes, it always says "iTunes has stopped working", and close program. I have installed iTunes 7.5, 7.6 and 7.7 versions, all of them encounter such issue when I try to open iTunes.

  • "itunes has stopped working", on Windows Vista during sync.

I just got an iPhone 4 with 4.2.6 software and just downloaded iTunes, so it is the latest version. Tried installing it in as Administrator. I uninstalled Quicktime. Uninstalled then reinstalled iTunes. Even tried compatibility in XP, and even during an uninstall/reinstall I set the iTunessetup.exe as Administrator and in compatibility in XP.
This is frustrating. It is why I never bought an iPod before, because I couldn't even get my cousin's one to sync with iTunes a long time ago. I don't want to update it just yet to the 5.0.1 software. Has anyone found a fix for this?

I was prompted for a quicktime update yesterday and ever since I can't connect my ipod.  message says ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly.  suggested i uninstall and reinstall itunes, which i did.  still no success.

Everytime I open itunes I get a message saying itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution

I have the same issue. An iTunes help page (iTunes for Windows Vista, Windows 7, or Windows 8: Fix unexpected quits or launch issues - Apple Support) suggested I hold down shift and control when clicking to open iTunes, which opens iTunes fine for me. That would mean the problem is in the third party plug-ins that work with iTunes. However, the help pages did not say what to do with the plug-ins once I knew that was the issue. The pages said to find the plug-ins and move them to the Desktop, which I did. That's where the help pages stopped, which is ridiculous. Does anyone know what to do from there?

Try copying the QTMovieWin.dll in the  c:\program files (x86)\common files\apple\apple application support folder to the c:\program files (x86)\iTunes folder. I had same problem and it's fixed this bug.

  • I have iTunes 11.4 and Windows 7. Using iTunes on Windows 7, I get message that iTunes has stopped working and Windows will close the program and notify me if a solution is available. Same message for last two days. Anyone else getting this?

I have iPad 2, iPhone 5s, both with iOS 7.1.2. I use PC with Windows 7 and hard wire internet service and iTunes to update apple products; no wi-fi. I updated iTunes to v11.4 on 09/11/14. I ran Windows update on 09/10/14. I did not try to open iTunes on my PC until yesterday 09/16/14. I got the message: "iTunes has stopped working. A problem caused the program to stop working correctly. Windows will close the program and notify you if a solution is available."  I got the same message today.  Does anyone know if this is a Windows problem and if a solution is coming or an iTunes problem?  I can get iTunes on iPad and iPhone.  All other programs PC are working correctly.  I use Norton Internet Service on PC.  I ran virus scans and repair/reinstall iTunes yesterday on PC.

  • Itunes launches fine however I cannot connect to the Itunes store.  It says that Itunes has stopped working and windows is looking for a solution.

Everything seems fine until I try to access the ITunes store.  Then I get a message that ITunes has stopped working and that Windows is looking for a solution.  Then it tells me that no solution has been found and closes down Itunes.
I can still sync music / podcasts to my ipod and iphone.  I am still getting podcast downloads automatically for the ones I have subscribed to.
This is the first time this issue with not being able to access the Itune stores has happened to me.  I was just there 2 nights ago.

  • "iTunes has stopped working" error in Vista

    Hey all,
This question is for my cousin. He has iTunes installed on Vista. It has been working before. It came up with this error, seen on www.ashrat.id.au/itunes.jpg
He has uninstalled iTunes and re-installed it several times. He also downloaded and installed the latest version of 8.0.1, of course rebooting the computer after installation.
Nothing odd seems to have happened beforehand to cause this. However, does anyone have any suggestions to fix the problem? This error comes up nearly right away when launching iTunes and the main interface doesn't show.
Thanks in advance for any help.

Same problem here with Vista Ultimate Edition and ITunes 8.0.1.11. I get the "ITunes has stopped working" generic Vista error msg. Quicktime v755.90.70 also gives the same generic message. I've done the "slash and burn" uninstall method for both Itunes & QuickTime as outlined in the support section (remove both apps, remote QT add-ins in \Windows\system32, run the MSI installer cleaner from MS) reboot, re-install and still no luck.
I've also disabled DEP system-wide (since Itunes cannot be configured to run without DEP), I've run Itunes as "administrator", and even tried running it in Vista Safe Mode but still am still not able to run either application.
A bit deeper analysis into the Eventlog / Application log reveals the following:
"Faulting application QuickTimePlayer.exe, version 7.55.90.70, time stamp 0x48ba1f5c, faulting module QuickTimePlayer.exe, version 7.55.90.70, time stamp 0x48ba1f5c, exception code 0xc0000409, fault offset 0x0000130d, process id 0x1ba4, application start time 0x01c94752a45e7550."
    and for Itunes....
"Faulting application iTunes.exe, version 8.0.1.11, time stamp 0x48e41bb0, faulting module unknown, version 0.0.0.0, time stamp 0x00000000, exception code 0xc0000005, fault offset 0x646f4320, process id 0x1a88, application start time 0x01c9475198965590."
I'm really stuck at this point with no real way to get Itunes to work. I'd really, really prefer not to reload Vista. Any ideas would be greatly appreciated.

  • "iTunes has stopped working" on Windows 7 64-bit

First time using this forum so please forgive me if I am posting this in the wrong place.
I bought a new Gateway desktop running Windows 7 64 bit.  The first thing I tried to install on this new computer is iTunes.  I downloaded and installed V10.5.1 64 bit from the Apple site.  Every time I try to open iTunes I get "iTunes has stopped working" and it shuts down.  I am not able to get into iTunes at all.  I read all the support forums regarding this issue, cleaned my folders, uninstalled and reinstalled, etc and nothing is working.  Can someone please help me?  I am not a techie and do not have debuggers, etc.
    Thank you for your time.

i had the same problem try this out, it has worked for me.
go to my computer > local drive (C:) > Program Files (X86) > Itunes.
once you get there if you see an Itunes icon that just says "Itunes" change the file name to "Itunes.exe."
then try and boot up itunes. lemme know if this works for you

  • Itunes has stopped working on windows

My itunes has stopped working on BOTH of my windows computers.  HELP!

I was prompted for a quicktime update yesterday and ever since I can't connect my ipod.  message says ipod has been detected but could not be identified properly.  suggested i uninstall and reinstall itunes, which i did.  still no success.

  • Itunes has stopped working in windows 8 when I try to access itunes store

itunes seems to be working ok, but when i try to access the itunes store, i get a message that itunes has stopped working correctly and windows will close the program.  i have uninstalled and reinstalled itunes several times (the recommended long way, which uninstalls all apple programs), but i still have the same problem.  someone please help so i can access the itunes store!!!

Exact same thing is happening to me. Couldn't find where to view the Itunes version number after a quick look. I hate the "simplified" interface by the way. On windows 8.1. Really starting to hate itunes, very buggy, and apple device locked down content (I'm looking at you TV shows and Movies) make it a pain to use.

  • Does anyone have a fix for "iTunes has stopped working" error, using Vista?

When I try to start up iTunes I get an error message "iTunes has stopped working" and I have to close the program. I have performed a complete uninstall of all things Apple and reinstalled iTunes but no joy.

Did you after uninstalling iTunes (and before reinstalling) checked if the following directories where also deleted ?
(These directories store your iTunes and also other Apple Products settings...)
    For XP:
    Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple Computer
    Documents And Settings\All Users\Application Data\Apple
    Documents And Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple Computer
    Documents And Settings\<user>\Application Data\Apple
    For Vista:
    Users\Public\Apple Computer
    Users\Public\Apple
    Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Apple Computer
    Users\<user>\AppData\Roaming\Apple
Note: Deleting these directories also deletes the settings for other Apple Programs
Ps: Always make a backup before deleting.

  • ITunes has stopped working.  Windows is checking for a solution and will notify you when one becomes available.  I am running Windows 8.

When I try to access the itunes store I receive a message Itunes has stopped working and is
searching for a solution...Will notify you when one is available...I am running Windows 8.   Any suggestions?

This is the simplest fix, if you're still having a problem with it.  I had the same problem, am running Windows 8.1.  Just be sure to reboot after you copy the dll (dynamic link library) file indicated.
    Copy QTMovieWin.dll from:  C:\Program Files (x86)\Common Files\Apple\Apple Application Support
    to: C:\Program Files (x86)\iTunes
Let me know if you have a problem.
