Itunes keeps locking up

I have the latest iTunes and it just freezes after it opens. The only way to get it to close is to Force Quit.
It has been this way for months and I thought a update would fix it but it didnt
Any ideas how I can get my iTunes to work again?

No. As long as you don't have any ''dvd'' downloads and all your songs and apps are from iTunes, they won't be deleted. Just make sure to remember your Apple I.D for your account that has all of your music so when you re-download iTunes you can get your music back.
Hopefully, in the six months while the OP was waiting for your reply, they figured it out.

  • ITunes Keeps Locking Out!

When I open up iTunes and start moving songs to my iPod, the iTunes program keeps locking me out. When I go to drag files over to my iPod Icon on the left panel, they start copying over... then in the middle of the transfer, the appearance of the iTunes program fonts change slightly and a small white box appear in the upper left hand corner of the program covering up "file" "Edit" and "Control."
If I go into the search panel of Itunes and typoe in anything in that box, instead of it appearing there, the text appears in the small box in the upper left hand corner.
In addition, the iPod itself never comes out of the "Do Not Disconnect" mode.
Anybody have an idea as to what is going on?

As an update, it happened twice yesterday.  Both times I attempted to make a purchase I had to verify stuff.

  • ITunes and Vista -- iTunes keeps locking up

I'm running iTunes on a new Vista machine. Every now and then, it will lock up and I will get a message saying iTunes is not working. Then it automatically closes the program. Is this a bug with the new iTunes software? I'm running the latest version, and never had this problem before. I'm just afraid I'll lose all my playlists, etc., if this keeps happening. I do have everything backed up, though.
Thanks for any help you can give me.

    It's a Windows thing.
On XP, right-click on My Computer from your desktop. Choose Manage > System Tools > Event Viewer > Application and see if there is anything from itunes around the timestamp it crashed.
I'm sure it's fairly similar for Vista.

  • ITunes keeps locking up my MacBook

As of just a couple of days ago, if I start up iTunes, not only does iTunes freeze, but any other application running on my laptop does as well. I can click on any of them and they show as the top open app, but there is no function. Clicking on anything does not work, even a right click on iTunes to force quit. I think the last thing I did with iTunes before it went bad was updated my podcasts Monday morning. While that was going on I threw out all of the old ones I'd already heard (not unusual) but then retrieved one from the trash because I had been mistaken about hearing it already. Not sure if that is relevant or significant. I have downloaded and reloaded the latest version of iTunes, which I already had, but it did nothing.
Any ideas how to fix this?

    Hi Shaun,
I too have this problem that occured about a week ago. Now, not only I cant access itunes, dropbox is being corrupted too.
Need help in solving this frustrating problem too

  • ITunes keeps on locking up...HELP.

    Hey guys,
Recently iTunes has been locking up a lot and I had to press altctrldel and stop the process. It keeps on saying Not Responding every time I try to exit and it is not doing anything. I tried to uninstall and reinstall iTunes and its associated applications, but I have still had the problem and do not know why it is happening. I have a relatively fast computer with 3.0 ghz P4 processor and 2 gbs or Ram. I don't understand why this is happening. Let me know if you have a solution. Thanks
    What I've done so far:
-Checked for plug-ins and removed, there were none
    -Recreated iTunes library
    -Removed iTunes preference files
-Uninstalled iTunes and associated apps and reinstalled
    -Checked for Viruses, spyware, adware....etc

I just got an iPod Touch for Christmas, and halfway through loading my CDs onto it, iTunes now locks up without fail. I cannot even complete one CD without having to restart my computer. This pretty much renders iTunes completely worthless and disallows me from adding my music. Please advise soon or I'll be forced to return all of the products I have purchased.

  • HT1349 iMatch keeps locking up iTunes as it tries to set itself up on my PC...

I am using iTunes, and trying to set up iMatch, and it keeps locking up iTunes when matching songs to the store and uploading my songs that are not in the store. It just won't finish and basically shuts down iTunes in the process... Apple online support keeps asking me for my serial #, but my main computer is a PC. I use an iphone and ipad to sync with my computer's itunes and thought iMatch might be the way to go to get everything together...

    Hello there, deelish.
A great Knowledge Base article that has some valid information is:
iTunes: Specific update-and-restore error messages and advanced troubleshooting

The pertinent section for you would be:
Restore loop (being prompted to restore again after a restore successfully completes)
Troubleshoot your USB connection. If the issue persists, out-of-date or incorrectly configured third-party security software may be causing this issue. Please follow Troubleshooting security software issues.

  • Itunes keeps saying it is a locked disk or you do not have the write permission. What is happening?

iTunes keep telling me that i havea locked disk or you do not have write permission. How can i fix this? I have deleted and reinstalled it.  It will let me open it on another user but will not let me sync. Says Ido not have enough authority..

Navigate to your iTunes Music Folder via Finder, Get Info, and make sure that you have read and write permissions. If not, click the lock, enter your password, make the change, and then Apply to Enclosed Items (found under the Gear symbol).

I downloaded iTunes 9, but it keeps locking up. I tried re-installing it, but that did not work. Any suggestions?

I'm having similar issues with not much useful to report. I'm hoping to uninstall and revert to 8.x (which worked very well) until they figure it out and or we give 'em enough useful information to correct the issue.

As with all clickwheel iPods, you can reset this iPod by first toggling the hold switch on and off and then simultaneously pressing the select (center) and menu buttons for approximately 5-10 seconds. This is a common fix should your iPod behave unexpectedly or lock up. Once reset, the iPod should display an Apple logo for a few seconds before showing the main menu. This procedure is similar to rebooting a computer and damages none of your music or data.

  • My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me mad having to put my pass code in all the time and the screen keeps going blank :( HELP!

My iPad keeps locking itself every few seconds, any ideas how to fix it... Drives me crazy as the screen keeps going blank and I have to constantly put in my pass code every few seconds. Can someone help me out please. The pass code lock is set at 10 minutes but it's happening every few seconds :(

I've run into the issue and it seems to be related to an app not fully supporting the iOS you're on, the reboot doesn't usually solve it.
I've solved it in the following manner(s):
    1) Backup the device to iCloud, then erase the iPad (Content and Network Settings).
    2) Setup the iPad and choose to restore from iTunes/iCloud Backup (wherever you backed it up)
    3) Perform any software updates
I have not tried simply performing the software updates (which may fix it, but if it doesn't you won't be able to perform the above steps).
    Enjoy.

  • Find out why Apps Account keeps locking

    Hi,
We are currently having an isuse where the Apps Account keeps locking and this is causing issues for out users.  We have rebooted the databases a few times and after a few minutes the Apps account will lock out again.
Is there a log file that we can view that shows what applications were accessing the Apps account at the time of this occurring?

    FORCE IPAD INTO RECOVERY MODE
    1. Turn off iPad
    2. Turn on computer and launch iTunes (make sure you have the latest version of iTune)
    3. Plug USB cable into computer's USB port
    4. Hold Home button down and plug the other end of cable into docking port. Do not release button until you see picture of iTunes and plug (very important)
    5. Release Home button.
    ON COMPUTER
    6. iTunes has detected iPad in recovery mode. You must restore this iPad before it can be used with iTunes.
    7. Select "Restore iPad"...
    Note: Data will be lost

  • Restore my library -  iTunes keeps freezing up

I'm trying to restore my library from the backup discs that I created.  iTuens keeps locking up as soon as it asks me if I want to restore from the discs.

Put your ipod into disk mode to restore it:
    Reset (Menu + Centre Button)
As it is resetting (when the screen goes blank) quickly hold down the Play and Centre buttons until your ipod tells you it is disk mode (indicated by a tick on the screen)
Plug your ipod in a Mac or a PC, eventually it will pick it up with iTunes and request a restore.
Never plug out an iPod if it has not been ejected.

Itunes keeps asking to verify pament info, every time I do it 1 dollar is being charged. How to fix?

I'm having the same issue.  I've been completely locked out of the app store because MLB.com is trying to charge me $3.13.  I recently updated my phone to iOS 7.0.4 and I need to re-download my apps.  It doesn't seem very fair that I cant access the apps that I have paid for and my FREE apps because of one app.  I would understand if MLB at bat wasnt working but I now have ZERO apps on my phone minus the basic ones that come with iOS...Someone help us!!  =O
