Itunes won't recognize my ipod.  It recognizes my ipod touch and iphone 5.  I have reset it, tried the other USB port, updated everything, and restarted my imac.  Any suggestions?  I'm going imad!

My ipod 5th generation is not being recognized in itunes.  I have updated everything, cord and cable looks fine.  My mac recognizes my iphone 5 and ipod touch.
I also continue to get the "not supported by fire wire" message too.
Any sugestions?

Have you restarted your computer?  iTunes updated?

Well, there is always the possibility that it's been jailbroke, in which case, you're out of luck.  However...

    - First see if resetting the iPod will make it visible in iTunes so you can restore the iPod.
    - Next see if placing the iPod in recovery mode will make it visible.  For recovery mode see:

  • I currently have one iTunes account for my personal iPod Touch and for my work iPhone and iPad.  Can I create a separate account for work and keep my current account for my personal use - on the same computers?

I have an iTunes account for my personal iPod Touch - have had for several years.  When my work provided me with an iPhone and now and iPad 2, they all fall under my personal iTunes account.  Is it possible for me to create a separate account for my work devices and apps, while leaving my personal account intact?  I use both my compter at home and at work to sync occasionally.

A much simpler solution would be to go into Settings > Store and turn off Automatic Downloads

  • HT4623 my ipod touch is dead. I have charged it, tried to reset it but nothing is happening. Any suggestions on what to try next? I connecte to iTunes and tried tried revive it that way...but nothing is happening. Can someone please help me?

My ipod touch is dead. I have tried charging it, resetting it, using iTune refreshers etc.....nothing is happening...the screen is still black.

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode
How to put iPod touch / iPhone into DFU mode « Karthik's scribblings
    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • HT5868 How do I get my iPhone to "always" trust my laptop (using the same USB port) if I don't have iTunes?

I only connect my iPhone to one laptop; I plug it into the same USB port each time. I do not have (nor do I want) iTunes on this laptop. Hence each time I plug the iPhone into my laptop I have to enable it and hit "Trust". How do I get the iPhone to recognize my laptop indefinitely and only ask the trust question if I ever plug into a different device?

As far as I know you cannot do so.  The "Trust" setting is actually stored as a line entry in the iTunes preference file.  No iTunes, and there is no Preferences file to record your choice.

  • ITunes won't work on iPod Touch.

I'm having troubles accessing iTunes via my iPod Touch. When I select it on the home page, it opens, then loads for 3 or 4 seconds, and then the screen goes black for a second and it returns to the homepage. I've tried restarting the iPod, but it doesn't help at all.
    Any input is most appreciated.
    Thanks in advance.

Assumng that your problem is that iTunes does not see the iPod try:

  • ITunes won't connect to Ipod touch

Hi I have an iBook G3 with OS 10.4.11. The latest version of iTunes I can download is 8.2.1. I just bought an iPod Touch 3rd generation 32 GB from which I thought I could use with this version of OS and iTunes. Turns out when I plug it into my laptop, it says that this version of iTunes will not support iPod Touch. When I go to the download page for iTunes, it says that 8.2.1 does support iPod Touch. I tried redownloading 8.2.1 to no avail. Can someone please help me? I am in the process of trying to save enough money to buy the new MacBook Pro but until then I need help!
    Thank you

It does seem odd that a Mac with 10.4.11 and iTunes 9 will not sync.  The Apple page for the OP iPod model states 10.4.11 and iTunes 9: http://store.apple.com/us/product/FC008?mco=MTM3NzY1NzA  So if iTunes 9 did properly install it is curious what the issue would be?  >I tried installing the iTunes 9 and it installed but still when I plug the iPod in, it says I need 10.1 or later of iTunes

  • ITunes Won't Sync with iPod Touch

Since migrating to my new iMac my old iPod Touch would not sync with iTunes. After following the articles on reinstalling the mobile device support I found that the iPod would only sync with iTunes once before it was necessary to reinstall again. Not very helpful.
Anyway, the solution is here! Run software update, as there is an iPhone SDK patch ready and waiting for you. Downloaded and restarted the iMac, and hey presto we have an iPod again, hoorah.

Bingo! Worked for me too (running Software Update and installing the iPhone SDK update).
I'm also staggered that this isn't explicitly mentioned as a likely fix in the general troubleshooting page for this connection problem on this site. As someone who diligently -- but manually -- downloads all patches and updates, I never use Software Update, and yet I could not find the iPhone SDK update available to download manually.
Background: my 2nd gen iPod Touch refused to be recognised by iTunes after upgrading my machine to Snow Leopard. iPod recognised by iPhoto and in iTunes on another Mac. Tried every troubleshooting item on the list at:
    http://support.apple.com/kb/TS1591 and http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1747
Notice that the suggestion to try Software Update is way down the list and is easy to disregard if you prefer to update your machine manually, as I do.
Given the number of users with this problem (I've read through dozens of posts looking for a fix for a good three weeks now) you'd think someone at Apple would reorder the troubleshooting list or at least highlight this option. Hopefully anyone else with this issue will stumble upon this thread, as I did, and get a happy result.

  • ITunes won't sync with iPod Touch after factory reset

I recently bought a used iPod Touch 3rd Generation 32GB and I erased and reset all settings on the iPod. It told me on the iPod to hook it up to iTunes, so when I got home that's what I did but I can't use my iPod on iTunes. The only thing that pops up is upload images which it can't because it is a 3rd Generation iTouch.
    HELP PLEASE

    Start with some basic steps:
    - Restart both your computer and iPod
    - Try another usb cable
    - Try another usb port in the computer
    - Make sure iTunes is up to date
    - Temporarily disable any security software and/or firewalls
For further troubleshooting steps have a read through the article below based on your computers operating system:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for OS X

  • Itunes won't read my ipod touch 4th Generation

Sometimes, when I plug my ipod touch into the computer, itunes doesn't see it.  It doesn't happen often, but when it does, it's fustrating.  If anyone out there knows how to fix this problem, I would love to hear their advice.

Here is the general Apple article:
iOS: Device not recognized in iTunes for Windows
However, based on your symptoms you may have a poor connection somewhere. Have you tried a different cable, different USB ports.
Also, look at the dock connector on the iPod. Look for abnormalities like bent or corroded contacts, foreign material and broken or cracked plastic.

  • My computer (windows XP) nor itunes is recognizing my 4g Ipod touch and I need to restore it. please help...

So today I decided to change my Itouch password. After realizing the code was an awkward movement for my fingers I changed it to something easier. HOWEVER I ended up forgetting the code and locking myself out. I then learned I had to recover my ipod, which I wasn't to worried about thanks to iCloud, but my computer nor itunes will recognize it. I usually do all my itunes stuff on my friends computer and I already did the msconfig thingy. Please help, i"ve been at this since 8:00 pm

If your iPod Touch does not have volume buttons on the left side then it is a first generation and iOS 3.1.3 is as far as you can go.  If tou have volume buttons, you can go higher using iTunes,

  • Videos won't play on iPod touch though they show they have been synced.

Transferred 3 digital copy movies through iTunes to iPod Touch 4th Gen. Now in Videos App movies are "gray" and won't play.

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Unsync all videos and resync
    - Reset all settings
Go to Settings > General > Reset and tap Reset All Settings.
All your preferences and settings are reset. Information (such as contacts and calendars) and media (such as songs and videos) aren’t affected.
    - Restore from backup. See:
    iOS: How to back up
      - Restore to factory settings/new iOS device.

  • I set up an iTunes acct and downloaded an iTunes card yesterday on an iPod touch and it said it was successful but I had trouble and best buy said the iPod didn't sync. Can I now set it up on my iPad?

I tried to set up my daughters iPod touch yesterday on my mother's computer. I used an iTunes card and set up an iTunes account and it said it was approved however none of the app boxes ever showed up on the iPod. The only thing that shows up is a cord and an iTunes logo. I went to best buy and the technician told me the iPod didn't sync with the computer when the iTunes were downloading. Today I learned whatever computer you set you iTunes account up on and sync your iPod to is the only one you can continue to download onto your iPod. Since I wasn't successful in syncing the iPod the first time can I now set the iPod up to my iPad and if so did I waste the iTunes card that said was successfully downloaded on my mother's computer yesterday?

Okay, but this is nothing new.  Purchased content has ALWAYS been permanently tied to the AppleID account used to buy it.  It has never been transferable between accounts, or playable on computers not authorized for that account.
It has nothing to do with how you sync or save your OWN music.  You cannot authorize your computer for music bought with an AppleID that you do not control.
