Java 1.4.2 Silent Installation Windows
Hello i have a big problem with the Java 1.4.2 Silent Installtion under Windows. With Java 1.4.1 everything worked without any problem, i have already tried to record a setup.iss file to use the Installation like with Java 1.4.1, but the installer does not create any file.
The way with the command line arguments from the sun description also doesn't work (http://java.sun.com/j2se/1.4.2/docs/guide/plugin/developer_guide/silent.html)
Has anyone a solution or the same problem?
Has this been resolved?
I'm having an issue with it also, using the command line as such:
j2sdk-1_4_2_02-windows-i586-p.exe /s /v "/qn ADDLOCAL=jrecore IEXPLORER=0 INSTALLDIR=D:\Progra~1\j2sdk-1_4_2_02 REBOOT=Suppress JAVAUPDATE=0 /L D:\temp\jvm142install.log"
I've also tried different variations of the commands in "", but still no luck.
From the command prompt it appears to hang, but comes back to the command prompt about 10 seconds later and nothing gets installed.
Previous to installing it from the command line, I had installed it manually, and ran add/remove programs to remove it from the system.
Is there something I should check in the registry that might be prevening the above command to run?
InstallSheild's web site was helpful, but gave command line options for the msiexec to run.
Any help would be appreciated!

MikeHi Mike,
did you install all required rpm's? You could check this with my open source project which is also using silent installation method. Furthermore also ASM setup is included. ;)

Silent installation in Java Plug-in
Hi people, i am trying to do a silent installation of the java plugin, i have manage to do it but something goes wrong because when i want to look at any applet in my browser it doesn't work. With the appletviewer i can see my applets.
Some one knows what have i to do to make my applets work in the browser?
i have created the silent installation but in the browser it doesn't go with applets.
Please help.
Thanks.Guys,
I am a newbie with this plug-in stuff, but I have one for you...
I had the plug-in 1.3.0_02 working fine with the applet However, now I upgraded to 1.3.1_02 and for the life of me won't understand why it won't just use the new plug-in - but insists on downloading the old plug-in. ??? why??
Aren't the geniouses supposed make it backwards compatible or am I supposed to hang on to all the plug-ins. -

Command line variables are specified using <name=value>; for example:
*[ session: | compName: | compName:version: ]variableName=" valueOfVariable"]*
Session/Installer variables are specified using:
*[session:]varName=value*
Ex 1: session:ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraHome"
Ex 2: ORACLE_HOME_NAME="OraHome"
The lookup order is session:varName then just varName. The session prefix is used to avoid ambiguity.
Component variables are specified using:
*[compInternalName:[Version:]]varName*
Ex 1: oracle.comp1:1.0.1:varName="VarValue"
Ex 2: oracle.comp1:varName="VarValue"
The lookup order is compInternalName:Version:varName, then compInternalName:varName, then just varName
Please guide me proper installation of oracle silent mode..

Silent installation JRE over a intranet without admin privileges
HI,
I do know how to perform a silent installation of JRE.
The problem i am facing is the users present in my intranet are not normal users and dun have Administrative Rights.
So i am facing a problem when installing JRE...
Is there any work around to install without administrative privileges?
My network has 500 systems and its either Win 2000 or XP systems.
I need to do this in a week to get my product running in all the user's machines!!
Help out guys!!
AnandSun has answered this very clearly in the JRE INstallation Instructions:
"Note - you must have administrative permissions in order to install the Java 2 Runtime Environment on Microsoft Windows 2000 and XP. " -
Silent Installation with JRE 1.6_04
Hi All,
We are creating a batch file silent installation of Sun JRE. I am able to uninstall JRE and Install JRE. However I have issue while setting the parameters such as AUTOUPDATECHECK=0 SSL_V2_COMPATIBLE_HELLO=1 while installing.
Has anyone tried this ?
I use below batch file to install JRE
jre-6u4-windows-i586-p.exe /s ADDLOCAL=jrecore IEXPLORER=0 MOZILLA=0 JAVAUPDATE=0 AUTOUPDATECHECK=0 SSL_V2_COMPATIBLE_HELLO=1
Has anyone succesful with all the parameters?
Rajesh AlexAfter long time I found solution to this issue.... I want to share to all
(Silent installation wont work with JRE 1.604 and I had to set the SSLV2 client to true for SSL)
There is 2 levels of settings for JRE 1.6 either at user level (Policy) or at System level
User Level
C:\Documents and Settings\ralex\<User Application Data Folder>\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.properties
deployment.security.SSLv2Hello=true
System Level
<Windows Directory>\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.config
To set this at System level , we have to create 2 files under
1 C:<Windows Directory>\Sun\Java\Deployment\deployment.config
a) deployment.config
deployment.system.config=file:///C:/WINDOWS/Sun/Java/Deployment/deployment.properties
deployment.system.config.mandatory=true
b) deployment.properties file
2 Delete the deployment.properties file under C:\Documents and Settings
We have repackaged JRE Install .exe and after installation the script will do the above changes...

SIlent Installation (1.5) just copies files
I tried the silent installation as described in Silent Installation. But even after rebooting the client, it still shows and uses the old version. "java -version", Java control panel all, Windows installed software, ... all show just the old version, but the files of the new version are properly installed.
I noticed that a Java application was running on the client. So I retried by deleting the new JRE files, rebooting the client (still no sign of installation of the new version). And tried to rinstall the new version via remote silent installation. This time it canceled installation saying that it is already installed, but the client does not have anything of the new version - even not in the registry. ?I saw that the installation was not done on the
client but on the server!!! When I think about it,
stating the client via setting the client network
path at INSTALLDIR= just copied the files on the
client, but the rest of the installation was done on
the server. I thougth this "silent installation" also
works for remote installations, like sayd in the same
doc:
It is intended for:
system administrators who want to deploy Java Plug-in
and the JRE on multiple PCs in the Intranet
environment without user interaction
LOL. I can see how someone could misunderstand. When a "system administrators" installs applications he uses specialized tools that allows him/her to remotely run those install program on those clients. It wouldn't do him much good if 1000 or so remotely run installs all had GUI interfaces. He just wants something that just runs without a GUI, installs and then quits. That is what "silent installation" does for a "system administrator". -
Need help with a Silent Installer for Photoshop Elements 10
I can't seem to get the silent installer working. I've used the Elements 9 instructions for 10 but I still get pop-ups requesting info:
http://helpx.adobe.com/photoshop-elements/kb/silent-install-volume-license-photoshop.html
I cannot find any info at all relating specifically to Elements 10. Before I go digging into the msi with ORCA (preferable to have something I can deploy in Active Directory through GPO) I tought I'd ask here@mtarggart
Delete the blank between /UL and 1033, and it will work. :-)
@Davide M, thanks a lot for your helpful article!

I've tried the above command and I keep getting prompted to select an Install Language. I'm trying to install this on Windows 7 x64 Enterprise. From an elevated command prompt pointed to the directory of the Elements install files (C:\PSE 10), this is what I am typing: start /wait setup.exe /UL 1033 /V"SERIALNUMBER=xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx-xxxx".
For the ones who want to use installation from a server share,
change "Setup.exe" by using \\Servername\Share\Setup.exe
and set \\Servername\Share to your Servershare.
The last thing I've been searching for was setting the right country
and stopping PSE from asking me which country I am living in.
Seems as if there was an additional switch e.g. "Country=244" for US.
