Java EE 5 Tutorial case study source code is AWOL

I'm new to Java EE and am using the tutorial to bring myself up to speed. I have downloaded the file that contains all of the source code for the tutorial (by clicking the "Download" link from any page in the tutorial), but have noticed that the file does not contain the code for the case studies (chapters 37 and 38). Does anyone know where I can get my hands on the code for the case studies?
Thanks!

Nevermind!
For some reason, clicking on the link to download the tutorial file while at work resulted in getting a previous version of the file (j2ee-5_0-beta-doc-tutorial.zip) that does not contain the case study code. When I downloaded the file at home, I got a file (javaee-5-doc-tutorial-1.0.zip) that contains the case study code.

  • Where can I find Java 1.5 swing (JTabbedPane class) source code

    I've installed Java 1.5 and 1.6 JDK's on my PC. I was told that after you do this there is a jar file that contains Sun's Java source code (the .java files) that gets installed along with the JDK. However, I have not been able to find this jar file. Does anyone know where I can find the Sun Java 1.5 Swing library source files? Specifically I am trying to edit/modify the JTabbedPane class.

    I find the src.zip on my work PC, where I installed the 1.5/1.6 JDK back in 2007. Looks like when I installed the JDK's on my home PC that I did not get the src.zip file??? Anyway thanks for your help.

    Of course the programming classes given don't claim to teach more than the basics that are required for the theory of the more advanced classes, but some

  • How to read the Java source code (in Netbeans)

    I use OS X10.5.5, NetBeans 6.1 and JSE 6 on a 64 bit mac.
    When I downloaded NB6.1 it had JSE 5 as it's default (and only) java platform. I ran Software Update to get Java 6 from Apple, used the Java Prefrences utitlity to set JSE6 as default. In NB I added the JDK6 platform, registered the JDK6 javadocs and noticed that I also have the option of registering the Java source code.
    I have three questions:
    1) How do I make JDK6 the default in NetBeans. The JDK5 keeps being default after I did the steps above and I don't see anywhere to change that.
    2) How do I read the Java 6 source code? I can see sun provides [source code| http://download.java.net/jdk6/] for their supported platforms. I dont see Apple doing the same for its JDK port. What would I need to do to get to read the java SE6 sources? or is it actually hiding somewhere in the /System/Library/Frameworks/JavaVM.framework/Versions/1.6.0/Home hierarchy?
    3) Where does the JVM look for the binary code to run when I make a call to, say java.util.ArrayList or any other library. In my naivety I would have assumed it would be a .class file somewhere in the java Home folder, but I don't see anything like it.
    thanks in advance,

    This is taken from the help included with netbeans. In response to question 1.
    By default, the IDE uses the version of the Java SE platform (JDK) with which the IDE runs as the default Java platform
    for compilation, execution, and debugging. You can view your IDE's JDK version by choosing Help > About and clicking the
    Detail tab. The JDK version is listed in the Java field.
    You can run the IDE with a different JDK version by starting the IDE with the --jdkhome jdk-home-dir switch on the command line
    or in your IDE-HOME/etc/netbeans.conf file. For more information, see IDE Startup Parameters.
    In the IDE, you can register multiple Java platforms and attach Javadoc and source code to each platform. For example, if you
    want to work with the new features introduced in JDK 5.0, you would either run the IDE on JDK 5.0 or register JDK 5.0 as a
    platform and attach the source code and Javadoc to the platform.
    In  , you can switch the target JDK in the Project Properties dialog box. In  , you have to set the target JDK in the Ant script itself,
    then specify the source/binary format in the Project Properties dialog box.
    To register a new Java platform:
    Choose Tools > Java Platforms from the main window.
    Click New Platform and select the directory that contains the Java platform. Java platform directories are marked with a
    in the file chooser.
    Use the Sources and Javadoc tabs to attach Javadoc documentation and source code for debugging to the platform.
    Click Close.
    To set the default Java platform for a standard project:
    Right-click the project's root node in the Projects window and choose Properties.
    In the Project Properties dialog box, select the Libraries node in the left pane.
    Choose the desired Java platform in the Java Platform combo box.
    Switching the target JDK for a standard project does the following:
    Offers the new target JDK's classes for code completion.
    If available, displays the target JDK's source code and Javadoc documentation.
    Uses the target JDK's executables (javac and java) to compile and execute your application.
    Compiles your source code against the target JDK's libraries.
    If you want to register additional Java platforms with the IDE, you can do so by clicking the Manage Platforms button.
    Then click the Add Platform button and navigate to the desired platform.
    To set the target Java platform for a free-form project:
    In your Ant script, set the target JDK as desired in the javac, java, and javadoc tasks.
    Right-click the project's root node in the Projects window and choose Properties.
    In the Sources panel, set the level of JDK you want your application to be run on in the Source/Binary Format combo box.
    When you access Javadoc or source code for JDK classes, the IDE searches the Java platforms registered in the
    Java Platform Manager for a platform with a matching version number. If no matching platform is found, the IDE's default platform is used instead.

  • Dynamic-side Box? Can't read source code with java

    Hi all,
    I am trying to read a source code of a web page with a java program. I can connect to the page and read a part of the source code without any problems however after a while when it comes to a part where mozilla and opera identifies as "dynamic-side box" my java program fails to read the source code and stops reading the rest of the page.
    Here is the part of the output I get from mozilla:

    Thanks in advance, regards...

    Hi,
    That is what I was trying in deed! I was trying with a Scanner but I also tried with the link you have given. That also failed. Somehow java stops reading the source when it hits "dynamic-side box". However there has to be a way to skip this. If mozilla can do that, I know that java also can. I wonder how....
    Cheers...

  • All source codes of jmf documentation are missing ?

    Hello,
    I'am learnig jmf by reading the jmf documentation in the oracle website.
    But all source codes in jmf documentation are missing because the website is oracle, and not sun.
    For example, in this page http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/documentation/swingjmf-176877.html ,

  • CREF source codes

    Hello,
    Is there a possibility to get CREF simulator source codes somewhere?

    Do you know if the source code that can be accessed by joining the Java Card Forum covers the full source code of CREF or is it just a minimum reference implementation (regarding cryptography and the optional packages)?

  • See source code in Eclipse

    Hi,
    I'd like to see the source code of standard java library in Eclipse without downloading source code. Is that possible and how to do that?
    Thank you very much.
    Ran

    Normally, when you download a Java SDK, and you install it, it automatically installs a src.zip with it inside the JDK (for ex. C:\Java\sdk1.5_013) .
    If you then right click your project, take properties, select java build path and go to the libraries tab, you can see your JRE unsed by eclipse.
    When you open thatone, you have rt.jar, and several other jar files.
    You can edit the source attachment of every jar file (i don't know which one is needed) to point to this src.zip, and then you can open the sources.

  • How to hide source code

    I was asked to develop a java program(like API) for other using. However, is there any way like in C++ DLL in Java that I can hide my source code? Thanks in advance.

    Hi,
    Java can be decompiled easily, so the only way to hide source is to obfuscate the source. You can find obfuscators on this link http://mindprod.com/jgloss/obfuscator.html .

    java.lang.RuntimeException: Uncompilable source code - missing method body, or declare abstractwhen I try to instantiate a class using reflexion as following:

  • Help me in finding the entry points in the source code of java.....

    hi...
    I want to design a compilation server and apply some of the optimization technique's like inlining, SSA and others.
    So i require to find the entry points in source code from where i can include my code and check the performance of the program at level it is performing .
    Please help in this problem....
    and i also like to know what are hot methods in java context?

    BigDaddyLoveHandles wrote:
    Do you even know Java? Why not just let the HotSpot optimization do its thing?Good point, I would try either of two things.
    If you have a good understanding of Java internals and are confident you could optimise code better, I suggest you contribute to the OpenJDK and we can all benefit.
    Otherwise I suggest you try using the optimisation built into the compiler and the JVM.
    Note: the JVM optimises the code dramatically in ways most normal people won't have thought possible.
    The compiler doesn't optimise the code so much as it leaves this job to the JVM.
    Two examples;
    - say you call a small method often. The JVM can inline this method for you. (the same way a compiler would) However say this method can be over-ridden and later your program calls a different implementation, it can inline both methods even if the new method in a new class didn't exist when the first method was inlined.
    - In a 32-bit JVM, 32-bit registers and references are used. In a 64-bit JVM 64-bit registers and references are used without needing to recompile the code. However there is a third option of using 32-bit references in a 64-bit JVM. In this case, it assumes the bottom 3 bits are always 000 so it shifts the reference down 3 bits allowing you to access 32 GB using 32-bit references. Again, you can use this with libraries which were compiled before 64-bit JVMs were available.

  • Generate java source cod/ contect menu

    I am new to JDeveloper, so please excuse the ignorance. I am using JDeveloper 9.0.3.10.35 and UML modelers 9.0.3.9.4. I am going through the JDeveloper tutorial( Modeling Java Classes tutorial). I design a Class model and i try to generate java source code for some of the java interfaces in the design. The tutorial sates: Choose Generate|Java from the contect menu.
    Any idea where is this mysterious conext menu? There is a generate option under model but every thing is grayed out...Any help would be appriciated.

    Thanks Lisa. The problem really was with the poor instructions provided and a tired mind. There is no "context menu" ala right click on something BTW, right clicking on the main design page does not do any thing and right clicking a class only gives the properties. Anyway, what was meant, i think is to select Java from the main menu "model" and then select Generate/Java. Now since the code is "automatically generated", the Java option was grayed out and that threw me off.
    To descover all this i re-did the whole tutorial with only one class and viola, the code was there.

  • Source Code Control for Java development in 6.20

    I am new to Java development. How do you control source code (versioning/transport) for Java development with the base R/3 is 6.20. I believe Java Development Infrastructure (JDI) is only available in 6.40. Is this the correct statement? Anyone that has work on 6.40 with Java can explain?
    Let say we have this setup:
    Applications are in 6.20
    Portal will be EP 6.0
    Do we need Web AS 6.40 to develop Java for Portal with base R/3 of 6.20. Or we can use Developer Studio to create Java accessing R/3 6.20 and display in Portal 6.0. If this is the case, how do you manage transport is you are not using JDI in 6.40.

    Hi Nablan,
    I believe you are development J2EE applications. JDI only runs with WebAS 6.40 which supports J2EE spec. 1.3. The developed J2EE archive will not be able to deploy to WebAS 6.20 which only supports J2EE 1.2 spec. So if you want to deploy the created software build from JDI and deploy it to WebAS 6.20, then the answer is unfortunately no.
    But, if you just want the Portal be able to display your application in an iView inside, then maybe you can just develop and deploy your application to the WebAS 6.40 system. Then create an iView in your EP to point to the app in the 6.40 system. That way your app will not need to deploy to WebAS 6.20.
    Regards,
    Marc

  • Has anybody written a Java program to get Source code from a URL ?

    Hi,
    I have a program written in another language (Not Java) to basically
    pull in the source HTM or HTML code, given a URL.
    ex. getsource www.any.com output
    So, ==> output will contain the source HTM or HTML code of
    www.any.com.
    Is there a Java program that do the same ? Like to see it.
    Please append here, or provide pointer to get it.
    Thanks,.... -- gte99te

    Here's a quick program that does just that.
    I'd suggest taking a look at the Java Tutorial, at it's section on using URLs descibes how to do this, and it shouldn't tank more than 45 minutes to get through.
    import java.io.*;
    import java.net.*;
    public class SavePage{
        public static void main(String[] args) throws Exception
         // make sure we've been given a URL
         if (args.length != 2)
             System.err.println("Usage: java SavePic <URL> <filename>");
             System.exit(1);
         // convert the string argument to a URL
         URL url = new URL(args[0]);
         // open a connection to the resource with the given URL
         URLConnection connection = url.openConnection();
         // get an input stream from the connection, and wrap it in a buffer
         BufferedInputStream bis = new BufferedInputStream(connection.getInputStream());
         // open an output file and get an output stream to it
         FileOutputStream file = new FileOutputStream(new File(args[1]));
         // wrap[ the file's output stream in a buffer
         BufferedOutputStream bos = new BufferedOutputStream(file);
         // read each byte from tne connection, and write it to the file     int b;
         while( (b = bis.read()) != -1 )
             bos.write(b);
         // clean up
         bis.close();
         bos.close();
