JAVA PATCH LEVEL

Hi Experts,
I need small information on JAVA Patch level.
Presently we are on Patch level 15 in portal system and latest patch available in market place is 19.
Please guide me which patch level can i go and apply.
Regards
Jan

The best practice is to go with one step lesser than the highest patch available, because to get the fiexes to the problems with the highest patch will take some time and the 18 patch should have got the fixes by the time highest patch is released. and also you might get the possible issue with the patch 18 from the people who already adopted it or from the market place (you can get the report on impacts ) before proceeding to apply. The other point you need to consider is the patch 19 functionality and its immediate applicability as per your scenario.
Thank you,
Shyam

  • Abap and java patch level

    Hi,
I have a portal installed on a standalone java based on sp13.  I also have a backend ECC5.0 on a web as abap (sp9).  If I want to connect the portal to the backend ecc, do I need to upgrade the abap to the same patch level as the standalone java (ie. sp13).
Also, I have installed the portal via rapid installer, which has also created a new sld for me.  If I want to add the abap as a new technical system in the sld, is it required that both the java (of which the sld is based) and the abap be of the same patch level?  thanks!

    Hi,
If you want to connect to the backend system , both the Portal and ECC (Back end System ) need not be of the same pacth level. And you can also add the techincal system in SLD of diffrent pacth levels.
    Thanks,
    Tanuj

  • How do I see the Kernel patch level in Java ONLY instance?

Could someone please tell me How do I see the Kernel patch level in a Java ONLY instance?
    In Abap, it is simple!
In Java I see in the System Info: Kernel Version:  7.00 PatchLevel 108458.44
BUT that doesn't correspond to the real patch level which I can see when I do disp+work which gave me 111

    Hello Yechezkel,
I am not sure whether the patch number you are looking for is available.
Typically you can use "-v" to display the patch level of SAP kernel programs. When I run "jcontrol -v" or "jlaunch -v", the patch number is blank (at least on the 6.40 release I checked)
The SP level should be able to tell how current the Java instance is updated, especially for NetWeaver 7 systems always patched with JSPM stack.
    Best regards,
    Victor

  • Kernel Patch level in JAVA Engin

    Hello All,
I have planned to upgrade the kernel for JAVA engine (Version 640) and checked for the patch level. It appears as release 640 and i am not able to find the patch of the kernel(tried in system info page and jalunch -v option). Later I came through a thread in this forum which stated there is no patch level for Java Kernel. Is this right? If this is right then how do we upgrade the kernel for Java engine
    Kindly clarify
    Regards,
    Anand

    Hi,
In Java, kernel are identified in SPS not in terms of patch level like in ABAP systems. so whatever will your SP stack level of your portal, the same will be the kernel level of your portal.
So if you want to upgrade your portal kernel alone, you cant. You have to upgrade your whole Portal SPS to take your portal on new kernel and SP stack level. Latest SPS Available in the market place is 24 as of today.

  • What level of Java patch should be applied With ABAP patch level 19

    Hi All,
I have a newly installed Netweaver 2004 s XI system. the support pack level is
    SAP_ABA         0019
    SAP_BASIS      0019

    ST-PI                 0016

What should be the level for Java package and JSPM should be applied. Can we apply level 17 or should ABAP and JAVA be of the same level??
    Regards,
    Priya

    HI,
Actually now my Java version and all java patches are on the level 19. But my IGS is on level 13. The highest level available is also only 16. So do i need to upgrade my IGS as it will require kernel upgrade or level 13 is ok?

  • Error while applying Java Patch 16 on WAS 640 ABAP+JAVA

    Hello Masters,
I am in process of applying Patch 16 to my BW 3.5 WAS 640 ABAP+JAVA systems.  I have successfully applied ABAP patch level to 16.  Now I am applying to J2EE Patch 16 to system. I did prerequisite check and everything is okay.  Platform - Sun Solaris 9, Oracle 9.2.0.6.  When I click on apply Patch 16, it goes thru central instance profile, java home directory okay. After this it is asking me to supply file for JCE and I gave path for file "jce_policy-1_4_2.zip".  after that it extracts this file to Java_home/jre and at point when it tries to extract visual.dat, it throws following error :

    Hello Digesh,
The firt thing please go to os level prompt for <SID>adm user and type echo $JAVA_HOME. What is the value that is reflected after issuing the above.
Also please check that your SAP-J2EE instance is running properly or not.
The JCE is used for Weak and strong encryption.
Also please check the instance.properties file. Does it contain proper parameter as per your SAP installation.

    current portal version: version=6.0.2.29.0
    current C&COLL version: CM_COLL version=60 SP2 Patch 5
Before applying this patch, i applied CM&COLL patch 4 hotfix 8 and the DBPATCH included in tht. Now, after applying CM&COLL patch 5, i tried to apply DBPATCH which comes with CMOLL patch5 SAR file. My database is oracle database. While applying this patch i encountred following error:

Please provide me solution urgently and which path i should follow to retore at file system level?

    Hi,
You have to restre both (application + database). If you have taken offline backup then you restore as it is and try again.

  • How to determine 640/J2EE Startup Framework Binary Patch Level?

    Hi All,
We are running BI ABAP with Java Add-in on WAS 640/SUSE/Oracle.
In the ABAP world, there are many options for determining the current kernel patch level.  Disp+work -v, SYSTEM->STATUS, etc..
How do I determine the patch level of the J2EE startup framework (ie: jlaunch, jcontrol, etc..)?  If I run these commands with '-version', I get a patch level of 0. From System Information, the Cluster Kernel Version is 6.40 PatchLevel 105424.313.
What I am trying to determine is if I have the binaries that map to the latest applied SP (18).  Do I need to download J2EERTOS18.SAR and apply the bits or has that already been done?  Or is the current patch level for the bits fro the J2EERTOS14.SAR file?  Etc...
    Any tips/suggestions?
    Thanks much,
    Greg

    Hi
    You can check the patch number like this;
    D:\usr\sap\FT0\SYS\exe\uc\NTI386>jlaunch -version
Failed to reserve 1610612736 (0x60000000) bytes before loading DLLs (error 8).
    jlaunch information
    kernel release                700
    kernel make variant           700_REL
    compiled on                   NT 5.0 2195 Service Pack 4 x86 MS VC++ 13.10
    compilation mode              UNICODE
    compile time                  Jan 23 2008 20:42:28
    update level                  0
patch number                  128                         <<< Here is the patch number>>
    source id                     0.144
While regarding which file(s) to apply, please notice that the files you are not talking like
J2EERTOS16_1, is part of the J2EE support package stack, which can be applied with JSPM.
Regarding the kernel, you can alway refer to note 19466, and downlaod the lastest kernel from:

  • Query Functionalities affected after Java patch application 20

    Hi ,
We applied Java Patch 20 to our Development System. After this application we are getting Error in running the Bookmarks, error while creating complex formula and the functionalities like Back to Start,Back one Navigational Step are not working properly in BI 7.0 Queries.
    Thanks & Regards,
    Jackie

We have run with this patch for a long time now and have never encountered an issue like this.
Are you using JInitiator or the Java Plugin (recommended)?
Have you tried clearing the JAR cache on the client? Your FMB's also might be corrupted somehow - have you tried rebuilding them on a Developer Suite with the exact same patch level as the Application Server?
You could also try the new super-merge patch 7703734, which supersedes the previous super-merge 7482020, and see if that helps in any way.
If that doesn't help, you should log an SR on Metalink and get Support to help you solving this.
    Hope this helps,
    Jacob

  • Should we follow the sequence while upgrading to latest patch level?

    Hello,
While applying patches in any module say HR,if my current level is SAPKE60028,Can I dirrectly download SAPKE60034
& upgrade it or should I follow the sequence?
    SAPKE60028,SAPKE60029,SAPKE60030,SAPKE60031,SAPKE60032,SAPKE60033,SAPKE60034.
    Regards,
    Rachel.

    Hi Rachel,
You cannot directly upgrade from a lower level SP level to higher SP level directly for ABAP stack by skipping the ones in between. You will have to follow the sequence and it will also not let you to proceed say from SAPKE60028 to SAPKE60030 unless you have the SAPKE60029 in between. The prior level is checked as a prerequisite in order to advance to the next level.
However, for JAVA statck upgrade it is possible because in Java whatever patch level u choose it is consolidated. For instance, if you are at patch leve 12 at present and want to upgrade to level 17 then the patch level 17 is a consolidated package consisting of all the levels from 1 to 17.While upgrading it removes all the existing previous SP and deploys SP level 17 right from the beginning i.e level 1 to 17.
    Thanks,
    Saby..

  • Patch Level Info

    Hi All,
Currently we are on SPS 14 (Patch #7) for Java and Patch #3 for KMC. How to look for this info from portal? Now we are planning to apply SP stack 16. This will push up the current patch levels. Is there any way we can find the patch level info for SPS16?
    Please suggest.
    Regards,
    Subashini.

    Hi Subhasini,
If you are using the EP in Netweaver 2004s or later, The portal version page under System Administration -> Support does not exist anymore.
    Solution:
For finding out the version of installed products, launch the default page of the Web AS (http://<host>:<port>) and navigate to the "System Information" page. This page shows a table called "Software Components". For displaying the versions of all installed software and development components, click on the link "all components" in the upper right corner of this table.

    Laksh.
