Javascript to import xmp file

Hi all,
I am trying to import metadata into the pdf file by perl script. In that using GetJSObject to do it.
$jso = $pddoc->GetJSObject;
$jso->metadata($xmp_data);
here $xmp_data contains xmp file data. i am getting error like this
Win32::OLE(0.1709) error 0x80010105. "The server threw an exception" in METHOD/PROPERTYGET "metadata"
OR is there any other way to set the metadata ie. custom data into the pdf file.
If anybody have idea, please share it. It's urgent task for me....
Thanks,
Vaasu

By simply javascript also i am getting error like this
"Could not create internal representation of XMP metadata".
Code:
this.metadata=("C:\Documents and Settings\vasanthi\Desktop\TEST\009388\009388.xmp");

  • Importing xmp files or keywords to raw files

Any ideas on how to import pre-existing keywords to raw files?
I have xmp side car files in the same directories as my raw files, but when importing into aperture, the xmp files are ignored. I have tried annoture to sync between iView and aperture, but found with large amounts of images, it is dreadfully slow, and did not actually import any keywords in my case. I can also get a list of keywords per image in a tab delimited file.
    Thanks!

Sorry for answering my own post, but I figured out a slight work around, and others may be interested:
I have my photos arranged in folders containing 75-125 photos each. For each photo I created an iView catalog. Each catalog was then imported into the appropriate album in Aperture using Annoture.
My struggle earlier was trying to load all my images into a single iView catalog. Annoture seemed to double count images, and choke when synchronizing large numbers of pictures (1000+).

  • Can't import XMP-Files from Bilora/Jobo Geotagger in Aperture 3.0.1

    Hello,
now I use Aperture 3.0.1 and have buy the Bilora Geotagger with the Photo GPS Software from Jobo.
But when I import the RAW-pictures in Aperture, Aperture says, can't read some files, that means the XMP Files. When I look in a editor in the XMP-files, they are version 1.0, I think they must works.
What can I do, or is this a bug in PhotoGPS or Aperture?
    Regards Ulrich

The solution to that problem was that the problem is Windows 7, and that iTunes and Quicktime are required to get audio to work.
As I listed in the first post, I have a mac (running off of the mac OS), and both iTunes and Quicktime already. So, that answer from that forum doesn't help.
I downloaded the sample thing successfully and ran it. So, there's still something wrong.
    Thanks for the effort, though.

  • How do I import xmp files that contain edits from another computer?

I edited some images on my laptop and the Metadata Catalog settings show changes are written into the .xmp files.  I copied both the CR2 and corresponding .xmp files to my Desktop computer.  When I imported the images into LR 5.5, the edits did not show up.
How do I get the corresponding .xmp files to update the CR2 files?  Or do I have to start over and import the LR Catalog from my Laptop for just this series of images?
If I send off my CR2 files for someone to edit and they send me back the .xmp files containing the edits, shouldn't I be able to update my original CR2 files???
    Thanks, Marc

Also for the info to be read 100% both computers need to be using the same version of LR. (e.g. Lr 4.x will not apply all the info from LR 5.x)

  • Geotagging raws/ importing xmp files

I'm shooting exclusively in Sony ARW raw format and look for an solution, now for over a year, to geotag my images inside Aperture - so far with no success. It seems to be an unholy alliance between Sony, not allowing to embed geotagging information into their RAW formats, and Aperture being unable to import xmp sidecar files.
I can import import a folder containing ARW files with accompanying xmp files (created with an application like Geotag and containing the geotagging information for the unaltered RAWs) into Lightroom, and have all geotagging information incorporated into the EXIF fields of the Lightroom database automatically.
But so far I found no way to get this information into Aperture, neither natively, nor with the help of Automator actions, AppleScripts or plugins.
I really hope, the next version of Aperture improves on this. Meanwhile I've downloaded the Lightroom 3 beta to check whether this could become an alternative to Aperture ...

  • Importing .xmp sidecar file doesn't populate IPTC info??

Good evening everyone.  I've been trying to import .xmp files alongside some of my old movies to save me from having to retype the IPTC info such as location, etc.  I have a folder which contains the .mov file I want to import, along with the .xmp file of the exact same name.  I thought this was automatic (at least from my perspective), put I guess not?  The .mov file imports just fine, but Aperture doesn't seem to populate any of the metadata fields with any info from the .xmp file.  I've tried this with different videos/xmp sidecar files with no luck.  Am I stuck re-entering all the metadata by hand?  I really don't have much info, but I have several hundred files I'm trying to re-import, so it could be a long week.  In case it helps, here's the xmp sidecar file that was created when I used iView Media Pro software pre-Aperture:
    Thank you!!

The Photoshop and/or Bridge forums would be more likely places to get answers to your questions. This forum is inhabited more by programmer types interested in implementing the XMP specification in applications we write.
I'd expect CS2 to ignore CS1 panels so I doubt that's the issue. Panels don't interfere with each other--they just offer different views of the data. In any case, move the extra panels to your desktop and see what happens.
As far as I know, all you need to do on the Mac is drag the CS1 application folder to the trash to uninstall it.

  • Import XMP Metadata From File

In Beta4, the Import XMP Metadata From File command would import data found in an xmp file.
    In V1, it's not working...or am I missing something.
(I do understand that Export XMP to File will write the data into the image file itself.)
    Ideas?

  • How to import Raw + xmp files

Running OS 10.4.11 and recent 2.1.4 upgrade for Aperture. I successfully imported my images from my Nikon D300 and now have a folder on my desktop with my assistants RAW Canon D20 and D40 images with xmp sidecars.
I have updated all raw upgrades and still cannot see his images to import them out of the folder. Can anyone help me out? Does Aperture not import sidecars or recognize images with sidecars? (I have the do not import duplicates unchecked)

Where did the xmp files come from, ie. what app have they already been in?
    What is the file extension?
Can the files be recognised in preview or any other program.
Should not make a difference but have your tried moving the folder to anther location other than the desktop, I have imported many images from the desktop so would doubt this, but need to cover all bases.
Can you drag the folder from the desktop into Aperture?
Have fiels been renamed since coming from the camera?
Can you rename a single file and see if AP sees it?
Took me a few lines but I think I have the answer, given they are from a 20D and 40D are the files Canon sRAW? If so they are not compatible with Aperture!

  • Photoshop Elements 10 not importing GPS data from xmp file

PSE 10 is not importing GPS information from the xmp file. Lightroom correctly records the
GPS data but this info in not brought in when I add the photo to the PSE 10 catalog.  Has anyone experienced
    the same problem?

The Google map module and geotagging have only just been added to LR4, released this week. There is no longer a map feature in Elements since Adobe dropped the earlier tie-up with Yahoo. Adobe reserves the right to change and amend partner services and this has disappointed many users of previous versions of PSE. It’s possible that the map could be re-introduced into future versions of PSE but don’t count on it and given the significant price cut on LR4, the decision could be strategic.

  • Importing geotagged jpeg and raw photos with xmp files issue

I had a folder of photos (all unique, no dupes) from two different cameras. Some were .jpg and some .cr2 (raw). I used an external app on my Mac 10.6.x called PhotoLinker to geotag the photos based on gpx track files. I wrote the metadata out to .xmp files, done by that app. So then I had a folder with .jpg, .cr2 and .xmp files I then moved them to another volume and did an Import Move operation in LR3.  For the raw images, all went fine.  The images were pulled into LR and they each had the geotagged data for location. But for the jpeg images they were imported into the catalog in LR but none of them had any geotagged data for the location.
Can someone let me know if they have encountered this problem and what they did about it?  Is this a bug?
I even selected one of the JPG files in LR grid view, then did a read of the metadata from a file. The upper left corner displayed that the metadata file was being loaded from XMP.  But again, no geotagged information. If I load that same .xmp file back into PhotoLinker it shows the geotagged data still there.
What gives?  Why is this happening?
    What I am using...
    Mac OS 10.6.8
    PhotoLinker 2.2.9
    Lightroom 3.4.1

Thanks for the response and answer, Ian.
That strikes me as really odd. I realize that jpgs can have metadata within the image file and maybe the issue for LR is which does it consider to have priority. However, if so, why not present a dialog asking the user?
I would suggest Adobe plan on filling the gapping hole LR has when it comes to geotagging support. It currently provides very minimal support.

  • Import error on XMP files when bringing in image sequences to AE cs6

    Hey everyone,
I'm having difficulty getting AE 6 to import my still image timelapse sequences.  It throws an error called-unsupported file type extension.  I did not have this problem with cs 5.5.
    My workflow goes as follows.
-bring RAW stills into bridge and batch edit them in camera raw.
-move stills to LR timelapse and de-flicker them
-import still sequence into after effects.
The xmp files should change as I edit them in camera raw and in LR timelapse but they will not import into AE cs6.
Any help would be greatly appreciated,
    Thanks for your time.

They are still pictures that were shot in RAW on a still camera.  It calls them cr2 files in windows explorer.  They are raw image files brought into bridge and when edited in camera raw-the metadata is saved to an xmp file that accompanies each image.  Then you bring the images into LR timelapse and it just adjusts the xmp(metadata) files to deflicker them.  Much in the same way that camera raw works.  You do not have to export the still at all because all of these changes are saved in the metadata.  Then you drop the still sequence into AE and export it as video.  It just wont let me export them into cs6 with these xmp files.
The raw files are called cr2 files and without the xmp file-they will import into AE.  I tried importing some other camera raw files (NEF files) into AE with the xmp's and it worked.  For some reason it does not like these RAW cr2 files with the xmp metadata.
Thanks for your time and help,

  • Filters not importing with xmp files

I have an editor do my culling and color correction with Lightroom. She sends me the xmp files and she uses the stars and color filters to show which images she has picked but sometimes the stars and filters don't show up.
Her color correction is there, as I can see which images have been worked on, but I can't filter out the ones she hasn't chosen as the stars don't show up.
This is so frustrating, what is the issue?
She uses a Mac and I use a PC, but sometimes we have no trouble at all.

What version of Lightroom are both of you using? Because there is a better way to handle this if you are both using LR5. You send her the catalog and Smart Previews file, she could just send you the catalog back, and then you do an Import from catalog. That will pull in all her edits and metadata changes. If she perhaps did not Save metadata after she had made her ratings that could possibly explain it. Its the older way of doing remote editing and its definitely prone to error or mistakes.

  • Importing XMP sidecar with PSD files

I've got a boatload of PSD files in Aperture with keywords and other metadata. I want to import these into LR5.
Aperture will not (AFAIK) write the metadata I have in Aperture to the files themselves since they are PSDs. But it does write to XMP files, so I exported a test batch, PSD + sidecar of same name to a folder. I go to import that folder into LR5 and it works, except no metadata.
I checked the metadata in the sidecars with a text editor; it's there.
I tried the Metadata>Read Metadata from File menu; nothing.
    What's up?

Thanks. One problem is that Aperture doesn't seem to put things in the XMP that I'm interested in, or in places I wanted in sidecars. I didn't get too far into it, but it seemed to write a more complete set of data into the tiffs than into the sidecar for the same file. I didn't really care if it was in XMP or exif or IPTC or wherever as long as it was useful in LR. As it turned out, exporting to tiff with the metadata from Aperture was the fastest way to go for thousands of files.
BTW, anyone have a nice chart with where various bits of metadata are stored by common applications? Although each has it's own standard there doesn't seem to be enough agreement about where a "keyword" or "tag" winds up in exif, IPTC, XMP, xattr, etc. Annoying. Supposedly Mavericks in the MacOS is gonna have some support for tagging (gee, welcome to the 21st century) in lieu of labels; wonder if they'll make any use of any of the formats we use.
BTW, Graphic Converter 8 was very helpful in massinging metadata and reorganizing in the move from Aperture to LR. After all these years it still proves to be super useful.

  • Importing XMP sidecar files into Aperture 3

I don't seem to see the effects of importing the XMP files with a referenced or managed RAW file. I tested this by opening a RAW file from Bridge into Camera RAW. I then adjusted the file, which created the XMP file. When I import the file into AP3, I see the master RAW image, but none of the adjustments. (I can tell this since I did a dramatic halftone to the original RAW). I expected to see the results of the halftone in my AP3 file, but did not.
    Am I missing something here?

The XMP import capability is limited to metadata/IPTC type info - NOT ACR adjustments and such - those values are specific and make no sense to Aperture. This is true in reverse as well - ACR/Bridge/LR/NX2, etc, etc may pickup IPTC type metadata from XMP or embedded values but NO software will translate adjustment values from another piece of software that are stored ad metadata.

  • Importing "Corrupt" Libraries/Images/xmp Files Into LR 1

I've experienced the "corrupt library" problem experienced by so many, in which LR 1 tries to "upgrade" libraries that worked perfectly well in beta 4.1, but then apologizes because they're "corrupt"--and then exits when you hit the OK button to acknowledge the false error report (because OK is the only option you're given). I eventually fired up LR 1 successfully by first moving the existing library out of its subfolder in My Pictures. While that's a start, I do not want to forever lose the crops, tonality adjustments, etc. that I made in LR beta, so what's the next step?
When I look at my "old" folders in Windows Explorer, I can see the RAW image files and their corresponding .xmp files. If I try to Import one of those old folders into new LR 1, however, I only have the option to select "Supported Files," which do not include those beta-created .xmps. [Aside: Missing is the Select Folder button to automatically import the entire folder. What's up with that downgrade from beta???]
So, if I Ctrl + a to select the entire contents of an old folder, all my RAW images get imported fine into LR 1, but not the information regarding the prior LR beta edits. Does anyone know a trick for recovering that beta-generated information--which, I assume, resides in the .xmp files, which I'm not given the option of importing into LR 1?
Hopefully, Adobe won't abandon all of us who helped them beta-test the product.

I'm also struggling with this frustrating 'corrupt library' syndrome, and I haven't imported anything from the Beta, I created a whole new library in version 1. When prompted to back up I got the dreaded corruption warning. Any bright sparks out there figured out an easy way around this?
