JDBC Connections showing IP Address instead of Hostname

We have recently installed BEA WebLogic Integration 8.1 with SP4. Our first implementation of BEA WebLogic Server was with 6.1 with SP3. The JDBC Datapool connections to our SQL Server showed the Hostname of the physical machine the BEA Server was on, in addition to the application it was using to connect with. The current implementation of 8.1 with SP4 shows the IP address instead of the Hostname and DOESN'T show the application that is being used to connect with. Is there any way to force it to show the hostname and the application it's using to connect to the SQL server via the JDBC connection pool?

  • Ciscoworks Expert needed--RME show IP address instead of hostnames

Please take a look at the pics,
In RME and many other modules, it display the IP addresses , instead of the Hostnames as the ID for the devices(we want to use the hostnames for the devices). I saw the settings at Common Service/Global Setting was at IP(see the attach pictures). I then changed it into SysName and rediscover the devices. It didn’t work. It shows the same thing.
Anyone can advise me how to correct it?

  • DCR Shows Ip address instead of Hostname in Ciscoworks LMS 3.1

I've struck a problem with not being able to update the device hostnames when I do a discovery.
I'm aware of bug CSCsv65933 Discovery does not update display name in DCR and have ordered an upgrade.
I am still concerned however that there may be something more fundamentally wrong in the name resolution process.
Testing name resolution using the resolver.pl script fails for reverse lookups. Reverse lookups using nslookup work fine (output below)
    D:\Program Files\CSCOpx\bin>perl resolver.pl 192.168.36.7 BNE3750-A-L31

Based on other posts I studied it would appear that resolver.pl should do reverse lookups.  Any clues why it might be failing for me.

  • Prompt shows IP address instead of domain/host

Our server is setup at 10.0.1.1 (actually it is at public IP address. Here I am giving this like that). Our DNS server (on another system) maps this IP to ourdomain.net. Everything was working fine. If anyone logs into the server, he will get prompt like this:
    ourdomain:~
All of a sudden, this started showing our IP address instead of ourdomain at the prompt. DNS is working fine. I checked host and dig. But for some reason, IP address is showing up. How can I fix this ?
    Appreciate any help.
    Thanks !

You mean when logging in using ssh?
You say you checked the DNS but is this IP used publicly and the DNS IP used on that server you own ("public") DNS which is the DNS responsible for public lookups (SOA) of that servername/domain?
If it is a public server and the DNS is correct any public DNS IP/server (which allows recursion from your IP) can be used on that server to look itself up.
What does "hostname" in terminal on that server say?
Remove any HOSTNAME=-ourdomain.net- from /etc/hostconfig on that server.

  • Trouble with AT&T  Wireless connection - shows IP address 169

I recently got at&t wireless. Connected via router on ethernet. Put in wep address, and according to at&t I am connected - address is listed as 169, which means I'm not. They said that I need to contact Apple. I went to the store for help but because it is a third party, suggested I post a message here for assistance. I'm a novice computer user, and am totally confused. Any suggestions???

Beanfield's procedure is on the money, except that if I read the situation right, it's the Airport Configuration Skyangel wants to change. Also, it should be sufficient to drag Airport to the top of the list in Network Configurations.
An address is the 169.254 network generally means the problem is in the IP layer of the networking stack. It signifies that the Mac has established a link-layer connection to the wireless router, but is unable to get DHCP. There are two possible reasons: the first, which Beanfield addresses, is that the Mac isn't asking, most likely because it anticipates getting the information from PPPoE. The second is that the wifi router isn't responding.
If Skyangel does what Beanfield suggest, except using "Airport" instead of "Ethernet", and it doesn't fix it, we've most likely eliminated the first possibility and have to move on to the second.

    All Pages are not visible...
Please any one help me to do this....
So its not possible to say to anyone ,,,,u have to add this ip Addrss in the path.
Please Provide the Permanent solution ,,even by giving IP address also all pages and Iviews must see..
    Regards
    Sushma

    Hi Sushma,
I am not sure if the same apply when you access the URL through the IP. The SAP BI works on the concept of Fully Qualified domain names for access and also there is a system of web dispatchers which are configured for the domain name to handle report requests.
Also with portal in place you will not be able to see the URL of the application running within portal
for example the URL we see are
ttp://<xyz>.com/irj/portal but then the individual URLs for the applications running within the portal cannot be seen...due to security reasons.
That could be the possible case.
Regarding Use of Portal at client place:
    1. You can use the VPN connectivity. You will only need to give the access rights to the perticular id & that will be all.
    2. Assign the portal port to the some global address. That will work.
But, I suggest, VPN is better.

  • NAM shows MAC address instead of IP address in host

    Hi,
Product: Cisco Prime NAM Appliance 2304
    Version: 5.1(3)
Problem: We only can see MAC address on Hosts table in NAM, not IP address.
Does anyone know what happen and how to fix it?
    Thanks!!!

I wouldn't worry too much about the address shown in the Remote Management tab.  The ARDAgent process, which is what is listening on his computer for connections from Remote Desktop, binds to all active network interfaces and ultimately that's all that matters. Of out curiosity though, to what IP address does the "unknown-b8-8d-##-##-##-##.home" dns name resolve?  Is it the WAN address?  I can't imagine it resolves to a private address like a 192.168.
In any event, let's focus back on the network structure. Does the BT router have both a hard wired LAN ethernet port as well as a WiFi radio for LAN connections?  My guess is yes. I am also assuming that he does *not* have another router attached to the BT LAN ethernet port like an Airport basestation that is serving the WiFi connections.  Typically, the LAN ethernet port is given, via DHCP, a real Internet accessible address but the addresses served via DHCP for wireless clients are private network addresses only.  It's seems unlikely to me that the router is automatically forwarding incoming connections to a private network address on the WiFi network.  But if he plugs his Mac in to the ethenert LAN port on the BT router then you should be able to connect directly to the address given to it via DHCP because it *should* be a real Internet accessible address.

  • Cannot protect SharePoint farm that uses SQL server IP address instead of hostname?

Hello, I am trying to configure DPM 2012 R2 protection for a SharePoint 2013 farm. The DPM agent was installed on the WFE and SQL server and they are reporting a "OK" status from the DPM console. ConfigureSharePoint.exe -EnableSharePointProtection
was also ran on the WFE. When I try to set up my protection group and expand the WFE server I get the following error:
"DPM cannot protect some of your datasources until you install agents on the following servers : 10.1.1.12. (ID: 956)"
That IP address is the SharePoint SQL server IP address. For whatever reason the person who installed this SharePoint farm configured it with the IP address of the SQL server instead of a DNS name.
I know the DPM agent is working properly on both servers because I can enumerate their volumes and databases. I'm certain this error is due to SharePoint using an IP address for the SQL server instead of a DNS name or alias. Is there a workaround for this?

The fix for this may be to add SQL server client on the frontend and then add aliases for 32 and 64bit to the backend sql servers.

  • LMS 4.2.1 Discovery IP instead of hostname

    Hi,
we use LMS 4.2.1 and we noticed a strange behaviour when starting a discovery.  From aprox. 160 devices some devices are displayed as IP Address instead of hostname. Every device is DNS resolvable and has a value for "hostname"
I´ve tried every possible option in the global discovery settings but some devices have the IP instead of their hostname
Can you tell me how to fix this? Thank you.
    Chris

DNS is often not understood and just as often implemented badly
When it is working correct you can do 2 things:
    ping hostname
will start ping towards the IP address of the host.
    ping -a
will resolve the ip to a hostname if possibe and then start a ping towards the IP address.
Often only the first works. Reverse lookup is required by LMS as well.
if you can fix the DNS you can always create a local hosts file
    Cheers,
    Michel

If i understand what you are saying then you are seeing the WiFi indicator after connecting but Apps are saying that they are not connected to the internet?
Your router may not have given your iPod a valid IP address. Go to Settings > Wifi > your network name and touch the ">" to the right to see the network details. If the IP address starts with 169 or is blank then your router didn't provide an IP address and you won't be able to access the Internet.
Sometimes the fix can be to restart your router (remove power for 30 seconds and restart). Next, reset network settings on your iPod (Settings > General > Reset > Reset network settings) and then attempt to connect. In other cases it might be necessary to update the router's firmware with the latest from the manufacturer's support web pages.
If you need more help please give more details on your network, i.e., your router make, model and version, the wifi security being used (WEP, WPA, WPA2), etc.

  • ISATAP Router connectivity for INTRANET resources...they still show fe80 addresses.

So, in following various troubleshooting documents, it has led me to this point.
I worked through the article DirectAccess Client Cannot Access Intranet Resources, which led me to the section
To troubleshoot why an intranet ISATAP host does not configure an ISATAP address because the intranet resources I've allowed both show a fe80 ipv6 address (meaning they are not getting configured via the ISATAP router).
I was able to walk through all of its steps without errors.  I did have to alter it slightly as I'm not using ISATAP fully, but limited mode with a custom ISATAP DNS name that is pointing to the DA server internal IP address.
The next section in the article To troubleshoot an ISATAP router is where I run into issues.  I go through the process, using my customized ISATAP name, which pings, etc.  I get to step 8 and this is where it goes off the rails.
I do a netsh interface ipv6 show interfaces.  I have TWO interfaces with the name isatap.longstringoflettersandnumbers
which each represent one of the two NICs in the server (One public one internal).  The document states it should be the intranetDNSSuffix.  So, I added the DNS Suffix to both NICs, rebooted the DA Server.
Question, should these be listed as isatap.something or should they be my custom isatapname.something?
My understanding is ISATAP.DOMAINsuffix is blocked globally by default unless I unblock it (which I haven't).  I'm using a custom ISATAP name, lets say customISATAP.DOMAINSuffix.  I have a GPO setup to enable ISATAP and point them to my custom
ISATAP entry for restricted systems.  I can verify they get those settings because their isatap state is enabled and they have the custom isatap as their router.
But...they are not getting routable ipv6 addresses.
    My configuration is as follows:
    NLS - 2012 R2 Server
DA - 2012 R2 Server with Win 7 access turned on.  Dual NIC, one internal and one external.  External points to a F5 then out to the wild.  Dashboard shows all green for status in my DA.
PKI - Setup and configured.  Certs assigned (I believe, but I don't think Certs will stop ISATAP from assigning the correct ipv6 IP)
Win 7 Enterprise Test DA client - Can connect, shows as connected, but only resources I can get to is the domain controller, I can access the sysvol and netlogon folders.  I cannot access other intranet resources.
    Thanks for any assistance.

Hi there - it is a recommended route to not use ISATAP as Matt suggested. The option / process I use which always works is to use a management server with a static ipv6 address (read native ipv6 as recommended). The easiest way is as follows. Go to your
configured DirectAccess Server and note the IPv6 address ending in 3333::1 . Now go to your management server and open up your LAN connection. Let's assume your management server is on 192.168.1.10. Open the ip6 tcp properties and add a static ip6 address.
Paste the ipv6 address from the DA Server in and change the last digit (3333::1) to 3333::10 to match the ipv4 digit. Set the mask to /64 /96 or /128 as per the DA Server. Paste the ipv6 address of the DA Server as the default gateway . Leave DNS Alone. Then
go back to the DA Server choose infrastructure and remove your management server. Apply the settings to write the GPO. Re-Add the management server and apply the GPO. Then reboot the management server, check DNS for an ipv6 address and you are good to go.

  • Jdbc connection set source ip address

    Hi
Is there any way to specify the local (source) ip address of a jdbc connection ?

The server which runs my application has many ip addresses and

No, certainly not in the JDBC API. I don't believe there's even a way to do this in the java.net Socket API. There's the very slimmest of slim chances that a particular driver might implement something like this, in which case it would be in the driver's documentation. However, the chances are so slim that I'd bet strongly against any driver doing this.
The source address is usually picked by the operating system, based on the routability to the target IP address. Basically, the OS network services looks at the target IP and says to itself, "which (logical) interface can get there? That's the source IP I will use". If your host's routing says there are multiple routes to the IP, then it will pick one; if there's only one route to the particular IP, there will be only one interface (and therefore source IP) that can be chosen.
There's no reason Java or a driver couldn't be extended to do this, but no particular demand either; the problem is usually dealt with at the network layer.

  • JDBC connection over IPv6

    Hi
I have an MS SQL Server 2005 Database Server and a Client computer on two different subnets.
There is also a DNS Server, which contains both an IPv4 (A) and IPv6 (AAAA) DNS record for the Database Server.
I've disabled IPv4 routing between the two subnets so that the Database Server is only accessible by IPv6 from the Client computer.
I am then unable to connect to the Database Server from the Client using JDBC.
I have tried increasing the loginTimeout in the JDBC connection string, but this doesn't appear to make any difference.
    I get a java.net.ConnectException in about 20 seconds.
If I remove the IPv4 (A) record of the Database Server from the DNS Server, the JDBC connection then succeeds.
Does JDBC iterate over all the possible addresses of the Database Server?
Is the loginTimeout the correct parameter to try to increase, to allow it to iterate over the possible addresses?
There is a similar problem with MS SQL Client - see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378428(SQL.90).aspx
But increasing the connection timeout allows a successful connection.
    Thanks

Alain: A machine may have multiple IPv6 addresses, as well as an IPv4 address.
You may not be able to get to the machine via all the addresses, depending on the network route.
If a driver gives up on the first DNS lookup (which probably will be the IPv4 address), it'll never try the IPv6 addresses. However that is NOT what you are testing.
As described in your first post there is a route. Routing works if the final location is found. After that a refused connection is a refused connection.
Alain: In my test, IPv4 routing is disabled between the two subnets. So there is no IPv4 routing between the two machines, only IPv6.
    >
But even so, to me it is still two different IP addresses. Just as if you try to create your own replication by having two database servers on different IPv4 addresses. If the client is supposed to be using one address then the DNS should be set up that way.
Or use the address. Because the point is not the IP address, the point is the DNS look up.
Alain: With IPv6, it is common for computers to be assigned more than one address for routing under different hierarchies.
If you're saying that the DNS lookup should be set up to return only one IP address to client computers trying to connect to the DB Server, DNS will need to be set up differently depending on where the client computer is.
    >
Again looking at it from the point of someone developing a driver the only option I would allow is that one might be able to specify a configuration value that says to try a IPv6 address first. That would be in the driver, not JDBC. So you can look to your driver for that.
There is a similar problem with MS SQL Client - see http://msdn.microsoft.com/en-us/library/ms378428(SQL.90).aspx
But increasing the connection timeout allows a successful connection.
I do not see anywhere in that link that it claims that the setup you are using would work Alain: apologies. It was the wrong url link.
I meant, http://blogs.msdn.com/sql_protocols/archive/2005/10/12/480192.aspx.The scenario there is SQL Server is configured to listen only on IPv6 addresses and disable all IPv4 addresses so that only IPv6 connection can be accepted. The workaround is to specify the IPv6 address of the target machine explicitly to force SNI to use IPv6 connection directly or to use longer timeout value. I don't see that in that blog.
It says that if you have addresses that some different behavior might result. It specifically refers to using an IPv4 address (not DNS) and failing on that and then attempting to use a IPv6 address (again not a DNS) and even in that case it might fail.
Alain: The blog is talking about a hostname resolving into multiple addresses. I quote from the blog, with bold for emphasis,
"In most cases, the connection string does not need to be modified if the <servername> is specified using server hostname or FQDN (Full Qualified Domain Name). If the server machine has dual-stack, *its hostname or FQDN will be resolved into multiple IP addresses*, including at lease one IPv4 address and multiple IPv6 addresses. *And SNI will attempt to establish connections using these IP addresses in order and use the first connection that succeeds*. IPv4 addresses are attempted first if both IPv4 and IPv6 addresses are present. This logic is transparent to the users of ODBC, OLEDB or ADO.NET.
And it doesn't say anything about that some clients already do this but merely that they can.
Alain: SNI does, from the quote above. A test also shows that it does try all the addresses that DNS returns, with the caveat that the connection timeout has to be increased.
Unfortunately it looks like the MS JDBC driver doesn't do likewise.
Myself I don't really consider that a valid option for most use cases for drivers. If I have a data center then I am not normally going to be using both types of addresses. And if I am both will work. And if there are variation in subnets then I would expect that if DNS is in use then it would be set up to correctly represent that. Thanks for your input on this thread. Much appreciated.
