JDeveloper-Is it suitable for enterprise-level systems?

I develop 'traditional' Oracle forms/reports applications in
client-server systems and I am considering using Java for future
application development. Such applications are usually
keyboard-intensive, having screens capable of rapid data entry as
well as providing MIS reporting functions via crystal reports
/oracle reports/SqlPLus. My questions are:
o Is JDeveloper designed to build such applications (e.g. having
menus, hot keys, menu shortcuts, function key re-definition & the
ability to 'tab' a user thru fields)?
o Does JDeveloper have any in-built reporting tools and if not,
which reporting product do you recommend for use alongside a Java
application built using JDeveloper?
o Are there any reference sites having any major multi-user
applications built using JDeveloper?
o I've had my fingers burnt trying to develop using Power
Objects - I'd rather not make that mistake again
Is anyone else in the developer community doing this stuff - I'd
love to hear your views ... Thanks in advance for any info you
can provide ...

Hi Keith,
the Remote Support Component is currently only working for Enterprise installations. We already got another request for Edge support, but it is not yet decided about it.

  • Enterprise level capacity planning

I am trying to look at capacity planning at an enterprise level and wish to get summarized views of captured data across a number of hosts and instances. I would like to be able to see the tablespace stats for all of our instances in one graph or report, and not have to view each one separately. The OEM capacity planner does not seem to provide any such views and from what I have discovered in the repository it looks as though separate tables are created to hold captured data for each instance eg table space data for prod01 will be in table a, tablespace data for xcpt02 will be in table b.
Has anybody got any ideas on how to use the Capacity Planner for Enterprise Level Capacity Planning?

    Hi,
About packaging : Always deploy your application in ear format using weblogic
(not a single war (WEB module) + single jar (EJB module)) Ref http://edocs.bea.com/wls/docs61/programming/packaging.html#1051556
"WebLogic Server can bypass the intermediate RMI classes because the EJB client
and implementation are in the same JVM." If you have large data exchange between
EJB and WEB you're gonne save a lot process time (including garbage collect process
time to clean RMI object copies). For our application with save up to 7%just
    using ear format for deployment.

  • Suitable for big enterprise applications?

    Hello,
I am an advocate of Apex in our Oracle Forms shop, but received the following statement: "I am afraid that because of its 2 tier architecture (entire processing is taking place in the DB) it is not suitable for big enterprise applications".
Please help me respond to this.
Not by saying "yes, it is" or "no, it is not, the person is right", but by saying why it is or it is not.
    References would be nice too.
    Thanks very much, in advance,
    Gabor

As the Director of IT for my company, here's why we use APEX as our main data entry/reporting solution:
    1) Centralized data. All the data resides in a single place. No duplication and no wondering "Is this everything?"
    2) Anywhere access. Because it is web/browser based, your users can gain access to the system whether at work or on the road. My company operates in the transportation industry across more than 8 states and we support many traveling managers. Web-based access and wireless connectivity enable them to be anywhere and get access to real-time data.
    3) Instant deployment and updates. With APEX, content and new functionality can be instantly deployed across an entire organization without the need for expensive software management agents. It also eliminates versioning problems because it ensures everyone is using the same version. You can't do it that simply with a normal enterprise application.
    4) Cross-platform Compatability. Again, because everything is browser-/standards-based, users can use Apple, Windows, Linux, smartphones, etc. Most standard applications have to have specific components written to interact with each type of device or operating system. With web applications, you can develop once and deliver everywhere.
    5) Rapid development. I can have a basic application developed including table definitions, etc. in a matter of days BY MYSELF.
About the comment, I'd like to know what types of enterprise applications AREN'T 2-tiered or even 3-tiered applications? You have a presentation layer and a data layer in all applications; the application doesn't house the data itself. The main difference between APEX and many other applications is the delivery method: instead of a proprietary/internal transfer of data between the data layer and the presentation layer, it's being run out over the Internet. Frankly, the concern isn't about the tiers, it's about something else and the objector doesn't want to tell you the real reason.

  • Error while performing Risk Analysis at user level for a cross system user

    Dear All,
I am getting the below error, while performing the risk analysis at user level for a cross system (Oracle) user.
    The error is as follows:
"ResourceException in method ConnectionFactoryImpl.getConnection(): com.sap.engine.services.connector.exceptions.BaseResourceException: Cannot get connection for 120 seconds. Possible reasons: 1) Connections are cached within SystemThread(can be any server service or any code invoked within SystemThread in the SAP J2EE Engine), 2) The pool size of adapter "SAPJ2EDB" is not enough according to the current load of the system or 3) The specified time to wait for connection is not enough according to the pool size and current load of the system. In case 1) the solution is to check for cached connections using the Connector Service list-conns command, in case 2) to increase the size of the pool and in case 3) to increase the time to wait for connection property. In case of application thread, there is an automatic mechanism which detects unclosed connections and unfinished transactions.RC:1
    Can anyone please help.

  • Is N level workflow in SRM suitable for BRF rather than the two step approv

Could anybody give some information about N level workflow in SRM abt whether it is more suitable for BRF (business rule framework) for agent determination rather than the two step approval workflow ?

    Hi Rita,
BRF is process level configuration.  You will have to define a schema and it will be tied to a Business object (say BUS2121).  Schema consists different process steps.  Each process step can be tied to a work flow (Task id).  So, it doesn't matter whether 2 step or N step WF in BRF for the process step.  Agent determination will happen regardless.

  • Availability of the SAP Discovery System for Enterprise SOA

    Hello Everybody,
will the SAP Discovery System for Enterprise SOA only be avaliable as a appliance as I've read on NetWeaver04s on Discovery System? Will there be a normal installation like a IDES System?
Perhaps a good idea for a quick start would be a peinstalled Linux Based VMWare Image :-).
    Regards
    Gregor

    Hi Gregor,
among the reasons for shipping the Discovery System as an appliance are legal reasons. So as long as there are 3rd party components involved (from SAP perspective) you'd need to be an official distributor for them. Obviously this restriction applies to VMWare Images as well.
An IDES-like installation is facing the challenge of integrating multiple components (that normally have to be installed separately) and their configuration data during the set-up already. This can be done as the example of Rapid Installer shows. But it is certainly more work to accomplish it.
As always: Making a complex system easy to use/set-up requires extended efforts behind the scenes. So it is always necessary to find the trade-off between "time to market" and "plug-and-play". So currently the availability as appliance is a compromise of both.

  • System file not suitable for running msdos or windows files ???

    Please help...
    I download the itunes 6.0.5 setup.exe file.
I open it and I see a pop up with Quicktime and Itunes on it. It quickly loads and then a new application opens (a C:// black box
It quickly gets an error (16 Bit MSDOS Subsystem Box) error reads that the system file is not suitable for running msdos or window files. Close or Ignore (neither allow me to load 6.0.5
    I am using windows xp

You use probably a UFS file system, right ? Then in this case, use the "-i" option with a value less as 8192. 8192 is the default value for a UFS filesystem that is between 3GB and 1 TB size.
But if you want to store 10M of files, UFS will be limited to 1M per TB : 64-bit: Support of MultiterabyteUFS File Systems (System Administration Guide: Devices and File Systems)
In this case, use instead UFS a ZFS filesystem that supports 2^48 entries !!!

  • Need U2ltdate.dll for Cyrstal Reports for Enterprise on 64 Bit systems

I am working through migrating older reports from a very outdated version of Crystal into a newer version and trialing Crystal Server 2013 with Crystal Reports for Enterprise.  The only problem I am running into is that I have added the u2ltdate.dll to the correct folder inside of windows/system32 and in the program files(x86)/SAP BusinessObjects/SAP BusinessObjects Enterprise XI 4.0/win32_x86 and the win64_x64 as well just to be sure but I am still getting the following error in crystal reports: "UFL 'u2ltdate.dll' that implements this function is missing."  Does anyone know what I am missing or if I need a different dll for 64 bit?  Thanks!

    hi Warren,
you may wish to look into replacing the formula code that calls this dll with built in date functions instead. please see your online help for more info on Date() functionality.
also, please see this post from Don Williams on using this dll in a 64 bit program. it deals with a 64 bit vs app but I am assuming that the necessity to recompile to 64 bit would be the same when trying to utilize the dll in 64 bit enterprise.
in this post Don also mentions that the source code is no longer available for the .dll and in that case you'd need to look at switching the formula syntax from referencing the dll to using built in functions.

  • Suitable user interface application for a billing system

I am seeking an appropriate friendly user interface application that is appropriate for a billing system to interact with an oracle 10gr2 database.
    Thanks

I'm not sure I understand the question.
If you have a billing system, presumably the billing system has a user interface. It's not like you could just bolt a new user interface over the existing one without a tremendous amount of effort.
Are you looking to purchase a new billing system with a user-friendly interface? If so, it seems odd to post that here. Presumably, you'd want to create an RFP that vendors of billing systems could respond to.
Are you looking to build a new billing system? If so, there are dozens of languages, frameworks, and APIs that could be used. Without more information, no one could possibly provide any useful recommendations.

  • BADI/User exit for ME18 to specifically check for Approval Level...

    Hi all,
I hope this is not a repost. I have found none so far in SDN forum. However if do, please point it to me. I will gladly close this thread.
Ok, i need a userexit/badi, whichever will do, to check for user approval levels in ME18.
So far I couldn't find a user exit/Badi that is suitable in my SAP system using SMOD and the program that find user exit by TCODE.
I hope SAP do provide a user exit that can actually check for user Approval Level in ME18.
Can anyone share this info on this issue?
    Thanks,
    William Wilstroth

There are few enhancement points available for ME18. Please check them once.

  • Does NetWeaver / XI suitable for a generic BPM package?

    Dears,
We are focus on deliver BPM solution and service.  We are very interested in NetWeaver XI/BPM.  But would like to confirm the NetWeaver function is suitable for a generic BPM solution.  We are convinced that XI can do EAI/process integration very well, especially integrated to SAP.  But further more, We want to know if the XI can play a workflow role as well as Ultimus workflow.  For instance, organization management, security management, multi-level approval process, send alert/message/mail, workflow monitoring.
Any comment would be very appreciated.

No, at the moment it is possible to have an organization managment and approval process is not possible with BPM. However, the BPM process can be integrated with the SAP/non-SAP workflows in the application systems to enable the organization management and approval process.
Sending of alerts/messages/mails and monitoring is suppoted by BPM.
During configuration time a workflow template is generated for each BPM process develped in XI. So all the monitoring avaliable for workflow can be used to monitor the BPM process
I am not sure of what do you mean by security management in BPM?

  • Details on Adapters for Enterprise Applications

    Hi
I am new to OBIEE. Going through the whitepaper, it is mentioned that adapders are available to connect to heterogenous data sources like RDBMS, OLAP Sources, XML sources and Enterprise Applications among others. I am particularly interested in the last option. Please point to the documentation that has more details on these adapters and what configuration if any needs to be done
    Thanks
    Ariv

    Hi Daan
Thanks for your response. The link you have given takes me to the documentation for BI Apps(prebuilt BI Solution built on top of the OBIEE platform).
I am looking for details on the below
    ORACLE ANALYTICS ADAPTERS
Oracle BI Server has an extensible and open connectivity layer with
a set of adapters that are responsible for communicating with source
data servers. An Oracle Analytics Adapter is a dynamically loaded
library that can be configured to run within the Oracle BI Server
process itself or in an external process. Individual adapters have
been built to communicate with for the following systems:
    • Relational Database Systems: including Oracle, UDB DB2,
OS390 DB2, AS400DB2, SQL Server, Teradata, Red Brick,
    Informix, Sybase, and Microsoft SQL-Server.
    • Various Host Data Sources including VSAM, IDMS, IMS, and
    CICS.
    • Enterprise Applications including Oracle, Peoplesoft
Enterprise, JD Edwards Enterprise One, Oracle e-Business
Suite, and SAP R/3 and mySAP.
    • OLAP Sources including Oracle Database OLAP Services,
Microsoft Analysis Services Cubes, Hyperion Essbase, and
    SAP BW Infocubes.
    • XML Data Sources including access to other types of data
servers (e.g., other non-relational servers), Microsoft Excel
    spreadsheets, and Web Services.
What are these adapters and what sort of configuration needs to be at server/client level or is it totally trasparent to the user/administrator?
    Thanks Again

  • Is Mountain lion support SAP on large Enterprises level

is Mountain lion support SAP on large Enterprises level?

SECOND FOLLOW UP TO MY "QUESTION" about Mountain Lion sleeping on the job after applying update to OS X 10.8.1.
In the event Apple Support staff is monitoring this discussion, this post is pertaining to a late model 2011 macbook pro primarily used for work for photo processing (RAW), video capture astrophotography with subsequent video editing and playback, picture/drawing creation and compilation, basic office functions such as accounting, spreadsheets, word processing and basic online activity.
Concerning this systems two specific issues and the one of shortened battery life affecting all other systems these are the resultant observations and recommendations for work arounds.
    1. System goes to sleep while downloading a file unatended resulting in long or failed downloads.
    No Improvement since update.
Workaround – I play a movie file while downloading, it's simple, it works, it's obvious on my desktop and doesn't involve installing more software or changing settings that can be forgotten.
    2. Garbled display when undocking from a cinema display requiring hard restart resulting in lost data.
Marginal Improvement since update – the application of the update to version 10.8.1 has improved but not eliminated the garbled display to a partially garbled display that can be salvaged by changing screen resolution.
Workaround – Open the lid and wait for the display to appear then undock.
    3. Short Battery Life
Marginal Improvement since update – battery life is approximately 10% longer on this machine.
Workaround – None, recharge more often.
Disposition – Mountain Lion 10.8.1 is still not worth upgrading to at this time.
Mountain Lion added a lot of nifty features that I have no interest in pertaining to my work.  I stick to a few basic programs I use which I need a Mac to run.  Given the shorter battery life, garbled display and the fact that the system shuts down while working unatended on a job this version OSX is not an improvement.
