JDK 6 Installer Hangs on Applying Patches

I'm having difficulty installing JDK6 Update 3 on a Windows XP box. The installer hangs forever on the applying java patches step and after a few hours I've had to kill the process. I've also tried the Update 2 installer and even a 1.5 installer, and these end up hanging as well. I've searched around the web and been unable to find any help on this, so I'm hoping someone might be able to provide some insight before I resort to reinstalling XP on the machine. Thanks in advance.

I'm having the same problem...:-(

  • Java installation hangs when applying patches

    Hi all,
I recently removed my java application from my computer then tried to reinstall from the add on plug in in firefox. The program would hang at applying patches. After serveral cleanings of the failed attempt, and many hard reboots later (because the entire system would hang and not reboot from the start menu), i found that firefox 2.0.0.4 does not support the latest version.
I then tried the next version down.. same thing happened. So I tried to downlaod it for just IE7, that also yielded the same result. Bottom line... the program keeps hanging at applying patches, doesn't seem to do anything for at least 30 minutes, before I give up and have to hard reboot my computer.
I've tried searching the problem on google, but have found nothing that resembles my problem or fixes it, following removal and installation leads.
    Please help!

  • Can't apply patch level 14 to installation server

I'm trying to apply patch level 14 to the installation server using the nwsapsetupadmin tool.  I have installed previous patches with no problem, and I have just installed the Business Explorer patch with no problem.  But patch 14 for SAP GUI 7.10 fails.
    I click Patch Server.
    I select the patch. (gui710_14-10002995.exe)
It extracts and validates the patch.
I click Next to apply the patch.
I see a splash screen and a black cmd window appears for a split second.
Then nothing.  Here I should see a progress bar while the patch installs.
    Any ideas?
    Thanks.
    Tom

    Hello ALL...
for the reason you must have a look in the NWSAPSETUPADMIN.log...
Or you open an OSS MESSAGE in BC-FES-INS  and  attach there the log files from
    your installation server.
Then i can have al ook at this and can support you.
A possible reason is that the patch is already installed on the server...
Or an exception is raised in the .NET framework...
All is possible, but it is very hard to analyse without the logfiles.
    Best Regards, Sven

    Hi,
As a part of R12 upgrade.
once The Installation creates APPL_TOP, COMMON_TOP, INST_TOP and 10g Oracle Home
Now we are connected to R12 application.
    Applied patch AD.A 4502962.
Run the American English upgrade patch driver
    cd $AU_TOP/patch/115/driver
    adpatch options=nocopyportion,nogenerateportion
Please enter the name of your AutoPatch driver file: u4440000.drv

  • Apply patch for 10g

    Hi, Good morning:
I am trying to apply patch for my newly installed Oracle10.2.0.1, I downloaded the Opatch utility and extracted it directly into oracle_home, and then I downloaded the latest patch 5500927 and extracted into oracle_home/opatch....
Now, if I do ' opatch inventory ' under oracle_home/optach, it will give
    D:\Oracle10g\OPatch>opatch lsinventory
The system cannot find the file specified.
Java could not be located. OPatch cannot proceed!
OPatch failed with error code = 1
If I do 'opatch lsinventory ' under oracle_home/opatch/5500927 it will give :
    D:\Oracle10g\OPatch>cd 5500927
    D:\Oracle10g\OPatch\5500927>opatch lsinventory
'opatch' is not recognized as an internal or external command,
    operable program or batch file.
I know I have JVM in my machine, and the JDK is version 1.4...
Can anyone help me ? what did I do wrong?
    Thanks a lot.
    Wendy

what a sec..the home does not look right, did you change it on installation?
    set oracle_home=d:\oracle\product\10.2.0\db_1
    set oracle_sid=your_sid
    opatch lsinventory
if that doesn't work, look at your PATH, see what is going on there
you might want to put the "opatch" sub-dir into your path..or create a couple of CMD files to set it all the time.

  • Apply patch Java SE Critical Patch October 2011

    Hello,
Server: Red Hat 5 Enterprise Edition
    java –version
    java version "1.6.0_06"
Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
Java HotSpot(TM) Client VM (build 10.0-b22, mixed mode, sharing)
    According to Oracle information
    http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/topics/security/javacpuoct2011-443431.html#PatchTable
If I had JDK and JRE on my server, I should apply patch.
I don't know if at my server is JDK installed. Is this JDK: java version "1.6.0_06" ??
I know that JRE is installed: Java(TM) SE Runtime Environment (build 1.6.0_06-b02)
I'm planning to apply patch: JDK 6 Update 29. (https://support.oracle.com/CSP/main/article?cmd=show&type=NOT&id=1361232.1)
I downloaded zip file for Linux. Readme file says:
    ------------------------- Begin Of File -------------------------------
    Bug Number: 9553040
    Product Name: JavaSoft JDK 1.6.0_27-fcs-b07
    Platform: Linux-i586
    Bug Information:
    Instructions for installing this patch:
    1. Extract JDK provided in this patch.
    2. Upgrade the JDK within the Application Server $OH per the instructions in
    one of the following Notes:
    Note 272808.1 -- 10.1.2
    Note 396096.1 -- 10.1.3
    Note 444462.1 -- 10.1.3 (upgrading to JDK6)
    3. Upgrade the JDK within the Database $OH per the instructions in Note 418399.1
Note: This patch download also contains the standalone JRE install. Follow the Oracle product instructions for using the
standalone JRE. If there are questions on using the JDK or JRE with Oracle products, please contact the specific
    product Support team accordingly.
Note: Release Notes for the JDK can be found here: http://www.oracle.com/technetwork/java/javase/releasenotes-136954.html
    ------------------------- End Of File -------------------------------
It is not clear how to update or patch JRE. Do I have to?
    Should I install patch?
    Please, help.

I'm in the same boat you are in. The wonderful world known as gov't IA vulnerabilities has identified the JDK within the database home as being a vulnerability and in need of a patch. If you are lucky enough to actually find the patch, the readme for the patch tells you to read another Note "3. Upgrade the JDK within the Database $OH per the instructions in Note 418399.1". Unfortunately that note is nowhere to be found. It's referenced a number of times if you search within oracle support, but it is missing. In the mean time an outstanding CAT I finding with multiple vulnerabilities is hanging over the environment.
No you're not. The thread is about upgrading Java as a standalone software product - that is no problem at all. What you are dealing with is the wisdom of Oracle to make a Java runtime an integral component of their DBMS (based upon your "JDK within the database" comment). In that context you should not be seeing the JDK as a standalone thing; there is only the Oracle DBMS, that it has a JDK built in is besides the point. Any security vulnerabilities there are, they are in the DBMS. The only security patches there are to apply are for the DBMS. Perhaps those security patches will also apply fixes to the built in JDK, who knows. You'd have to ask Oracle that.

  • OBIEE11g: How to check current environment installed/applied patches?

    Hi all,
Does anyone know how to check current OBIEE environment installed/applied patches? I don't have the patch installs anymore and now trying to figure out how to view them. My current environment is OBIEE 11.1.1.5.

    Hi,
I am trying to integrate oracle apps with Oracle EBS 12R and following Doc Id:376811.1 from metalink.
I have successfully installed patch 5983637, but when I try to install patch 4960210 on it, even though I stopped all the services on app server, i get the following error:
Certain files which need to be reinstalled by oracle universal installer are being used by one or more applications.
Please close any running applications before continuing.
NOTE: when I upgraded the existing OracleAS 10.1.2.0.2 Infrastructure to Oracle Identity Management 10g (10.1.4.0.1) I created a new oracle home and installed my components there (unknowingly), so not sure if this causing problem.

    Hi,
when i'm applying patch 9593176 the following errors appeared :

System intact, OPatch will not attempt to restore the system
OPatch failed with error code 74i've checked the OAS version and it's 10.1.2.3.0

    Quite obvious:
    oracle.developer.forms, 10.1.2.3.0 whereas
Oracle Home : /oracle/div4db/11.1.0which seems to be the oracle home of a 11.1 database. Did you set the oracle_home environment variable to the oracle home of your forms installation before invoking opatch?

    Dear Techies,
Thanks alot for your fast response.
We are trying to upgrade Solution Manager Stack from
    ST-PI 2005_1_700  to ST-PI 2008_1_700 ,
While applying patch it was suddenly stopped with an error
    "Manual modification adjustment is neccessary"
While I tried to adjust it.
In Note correction tree. This the message with " green tick"
"0001293326 EWA: Newest ST-PI Is Rated 'Outdated'; Wrong RTCCTOOL Date"
and is not allowing me to proceed further.
    How to go about.
    Thanks in advance.

Implementation  From http://service.sap.com/supporttools->ST-A/PI download the addon upgrade package ST-A/PI
01N_700SOL. Upload to tx SAINT (just as you would  do for an installation) and install as per note 69455
Then restart report RTCCTOOL and choose 'List->Refresh from SAPNet'.
            4. [Note 539977  ]     ST-PI Support Packages
Description     Addon supportpackage level 4 for ST-PI 2008_1_700 for 7.00 [patches up to level 4 for Basis tools for  services]
Implementation  Open http://service.sap.com/supporttools-> ST-PI 2008_1_700 ->Supportpk. Add patch SAPKITLRD4 (and predecessors if not yet implemented) to download basket. Release basket via  Maintenance optimizer. Upload from frontend int  transaction SPAM, define a queue and import the queue.
            6. [Note 539977  ]     Note 1312413 for ST-PI
Description     Maintenance Certificates for SPAM/SAINT may get periodically overwritten by invalid ones on ST-PI
2008_1_7* SP 00. Prevent this proactively, even if you do not yet use the automatic maint. certificate
                                  distribution.
Implementation  We recommend that you implement the Supportpackage SP1 for ST-PI 2008_1* to solve the error. Only if
not possible implement note 1312413   with not version >=12 using SNOTE. Regarding automatic maint.
                                      certificate distribution see http://service.sap.com/maintenancecertificate.
            9. [Note 1293326  ]    EWA serviceprep correct. in sequence.
Description     Wrong alerts appear in EWAlert Service preparation section (Newest ST-PI Rated Outdated / Wrong

Implementation  Implement the coding correction of this note 1293326   with SNOTE to solve the wrong service preparation alerts. Else if you do not mind the wrong alerts simply set this recommendation manually to green after reading.
    These are in green status
    Successfully implemented addons/ transports/ notes

While I tried to implement the note "69455" system is giving the message that there are no valid corrections and is coming out of the process
"Note 0000069455 cannot be implemented since no valid correction is available."
And is same for other notes also.
    How to go ahead.

Make sure that no oracle processes are running on windows, stop all services again and use the task manager to kill any oracle process that is running. But first read de README.txt that you have with your patch, there is all the steps you need to follow to perform that installation.
