Job_queue_processes

Hi friends
I have a BD that it has created several jobs, 5 of which they execute themselves to 1:00am and the parameter job_queue_processes is 1. I see in DBA_JOBS view and apparently executes all jobs without problems and in simultaneous form.
i dont understand that because i read in another web page that for my case, for example, the parameter must have a value greater to 5, than are jobs that is executed in simultaneous.
Anyone can explain me?
...and i read the oracle documentation about that, that is the reason for my question.
thanks in advance.
Cesar

Hi Cesar,
Can Anyone can explain me? Probably not, but I'll try!
Me, I just set it to a large-enough value and leave it be . . .
Dr. Hall has these notes on setting job_queue_processes from his book "Oracle Job Scheduling":
http://www.remote-dba.cc/t_jobscheduling_18_Oracle9i_scheduler_.htm
the job_queue_processes parameter sets an upper limit for the number of job slaves that can be spawned to execute jobs. The value assigned must be between 0-1000; with zero being the default.
The job coordinator spawns as many job slaves (j000 to j999) as are needed to execute the outstanding jobs, making the job_queue_processes parameter redundant in Oracle 10g. A job slave gathers metadata from the scheduler tables to enable it to execute a job. Upon completion of a job, the slave process updates any relevant information in the job table, inserts data into the job run history and requests another job from the job coordinator. If a job is not available, the job slave sleeps until there is work to do. The job coordinator periodically terminates idle job slaves to reduce the slave pool.
Hope this helps. . .

  • How to set 'job_queue_processes' ?

    Hello,
I have installed Oracle 10 on Linux RedHat Advanced Server 3, and during the database creation part of the install I got the message 'ORA-12547: TNS: lost contact' several times. At the end, I was told that the configuration failed because job_queue_processes must be greater than or equal to 1. I set job_queue_prcesses to 1 in init.ora When I ran emca to configure the database, I got the same error message at the end: "SEVERE: 'job_queue_processes' must be greater than or equal to 1'.
    Am I setting job_queue_processes correctly ?
    job_queue_processes = 1
Is it neccessary to shutdown and restart an oracle process before the new job_queue_processes setting can take effect ? If so, can someone please show me what to stop and restart ? If not, can someone please show me how to correctly set job_queue_processes ?
    Thanks,
    Colm.

Thanks for the response, I am new to Oracle, and I do not know in what context you are supposed to invoke the ALTER SYSTEM command. Is it after connecting to Oracle with sqlplus ? If that's the case, that won't work because I cannot connect; I am getting the following:
    $ sqlplus /nolog
    SQL> connect / as sysdba
    ERROR:
    ORA-12547: TNS:lost contact
    SQL> alter system set job_queue_processes=10 scope=both
    2 ;
    SP2-0640: Not connected
The 'lost contact' message is what I was seeing during the Database Configuration part of the install.
    Thanks,
    Colm.

  • Job_queue_processes set to 0

    Hi guys,
    one question.
Next Weekend i have to migrate the database cluster from the old server onto new server but there is one Problem. How can i prevent that all database jobs are running after starting the database?
I read about the parameter job_queue_processes, you can set them to 0 and it prevents the run of each database job.
Is this right, and if yes is this true for dba_jobs and dba_scheduler_jobs?
    best regards
    sascha

    Hi Mark,
    Hi Pierre,
in this case i have to set job_queue_processes to 0 (disable all dba_jobs)
and to set MAX_JOB_SLAVE_PROCESSES to 0 with DBMS_SCHEDULER.SET_SCHEDULER_ATTRIBUTE.
+(In special scenarios a dba can still limit the maximum number of slaves to be started by the coordinator by setting the MAX_JOB_SLAVE_PROCESSES with the DBMS_SCHEDULER.SET_SCHEDULER_ATTRIBUTE procedure.)+
    Is this right?
best regard and thanks for your fast response

  • Job_queue_processes question

    Hi,
In my RDBMS I have set the Job_queue_processes parameter to 2 and created a job with the dbms_job package.
Is it possible that Oracle starts my single job twice at the same time? The job - if it find data to process - is running for 2 minutes, the job_queue_interval is set to 60 sec and the job is schedule for every half minute.
    Regards,
    Tamas Szecsy

A single job will never be run multiple times simultaneously. After the job is run, the INTERVAL parameter is evaluated. If you've set the INTERVAL to 30 seconds, the job will start, run for 2 minutes if it finds data, wait 30 seconds, and start again.

  • Propagating messages with job_queue_processes = 0 ?

    Hello,
is it possible to propagate messages between queues (on different databases) with jobs disabled. Was looking into manual and AQ packages to find appropriate procedure, but no luck so far.
We need this to test propagation before all jobs go online.

    Hello,
No it will not work if are using the supplied functionality.
Propagation utilises dbms_jobs up to and including 10.2 and dbms_scheduler jobs in 11.1 onwards in order to propagate between queues. If the databases are distinct then you obviously need network connectivity between the two databases as well.
You could of course come up with your own solution but then you would be re-inventing what has already been provided.
Setting job_queue_processes=0 could also potentially affect other functionality.
    Thanks

  • Determine the value of JOB_QUEUE_PROCESS parameter by considering HW ?

    Hello Experts,
Is there any formula to calculate the value of JOB_QUEUE_PROCESS parameter by considering underline database server hardware?

  • How many Job_queue_processes are required?

    Hi all,
I want to know how many Job_queue_processes are required to drive 50 schedulers.
According to AQ manual. it says "at least 2 for message propagation" and "set higher values if there are many queues", however, there is no sizing guidelines.
If you have an experience to create many schedulers which has multiple destination queue, please let me know what number you set to job_queue_parameters.
NOTE: In our environment, we have 50 schedulers, and each one of it has 3 destination queues.
    Thanks in advance.

    Hi ennisb,
Now we have 50 schedulers, and we need to propagate 100 messages per second in total. Required throughput is not so high, but we want to set latency=0.
I think it is better to set job_queue_processes at least 50. However, I wander whether I need extra jobs to realize better performance and/or stability...

  • 11g - job_queue_processes parameter default to 1000 (also the max value)

    Hi,
I'm just playing with my first installation of 11g (11.1.0.6.0 on Windows XP) and I'm looking through the parameters, default values etc.
I've noticed that if I create a database without specifiyng a value for job_queue_processes it defaults to *1000* (also the max possible value). Is this normal? A good idea?!! Why have they set the default so high? I would think setting it this high may lead to resource problems (O/S resource problems for example) and that most sites would not need to go anywhere near this high. What does the team think...?

  • Enabling job_queue_processes

I tried to enable 'job_queue_processes' with a value of 2 in my init<SID>.ora but even after doing this and restarting the whole Oracle system, Discoverer Plus still says that 'job_queue_processes' is set to 0. Running Discoverer 10gR2 with Database 9.2.02.

It seems that your Database is not using the same init<SID>.ora file you modified, it might be using spfile. If you have DBA privileges you can solve this issue by using "ALTER SYSTEM..." command to set 'job_queue_processes' .

  • Impact of job_queue_processes parameter in oracle 10g

We have recently migrated 9i database to 10g.During business hours we will reduce the parallel jobs running to 5 and during night hours we set to 20.
After migration to 10g we faced major performance impact.Rest of the parameter we kept same as oracle 9i except obsolete.
Would change of this parameter will impact this performance?
What are other parameter we should check?
Can anyone help me regardng the performance improvement. This causes major business impact.
    Thanks

    Hi,
When does you database becomes perticularly slow? In the day time ot night time?
What are the scheduled job (apart from queues) on your database? Is there any relation between the scheduled jobs running and your database slowing down?
Is there a stats collection job? Is it taking same time as before or taking longer?
    Run this SQL,
    select s.username,b.sid, a.STATISTIC#, name, b.value
    from v$sesstat b, v$statname a, v$session s
    where a.STATISTIC# = b.STATISTIC# and ( name like '%physical%' or name like '%consist%' )
    and b.sid = s.sid and s.program not like 'oracle@%'
    order by 2,4
Do you know about the views I have used in there? You can figure out the session with extensive read, write and select activities from here. Also, you will need to apply your logic there.
    Best luck.
