JPA - lazy loading for LOB field
Hi all,
JPA 1.0 specification mandates that all JPA-compliant implementation support lazy loading for certain kind of entity field.
For LOB fields lazy loading is OPTIONAL.
I am experiencing odd runtime behaviors on my custom software which would point to this feature not being supported.
Can anyone please tell me if SAP JPA 1.0 implementation on NW CE 711 implements this feature or not?
Thanks in advance
Regards
Vincenzo
Hi Vincenco,
I am sure that this is the same as with single-valued relationships (@OneToOne, @ManyToOne): Lazy loading would require bytecode manipulation/generation, so SAP JPA does not support it in 7.20 (and of course not in 7.11)
See tulsi jiddimani's elaborate answer here: Re: JPA: Documentation on LazyLoad.
In 7.30 enhancements, you really can find lazy loading support for single-valued relationships with getReference.
http://help.sap.com/saphelp_nw73/helpdata/en/68/f676ef36094f4381467a308a98fd2a/content.htm
but @Lob and @Basic is not mentioned.
If you need lazy loading in 7.11, you have two alternatives:
1. Put the Lob fields into separate entities, work around the missing feature in SAP JPA with ugly @OneToMany - Relations
2. Use another persistence provider like EclipseLink, read Sabine Heider's blogs about integrattion of EclipseLink in SAP NetWeaver and static bytecode weaving for lazy loading. /people/sabine.heider/blog

Disable Lazy Loading for Navigation Properties on Entities in EF 5
Hello all,
Can we disable Lazy Loading for Navigation properties on any entity?
If yes, how we can achieve the same.
Thanks,
NareshHi Naresh;
If you are using code first you can do the following to turn off Lazy loading for a given navigation property. For example
lets say we have a Customers table and a Orders table and a Customer can have 1 to many Orders the following POCO class has a ICollection that is mark as virtual, This causes Lazy loading to happen when a property of order is accessed.
// Lazy Loading Enabled
public class Customers
public int Id { get; set; }
public string Name { get; set; }
public virtual ICollection<Order> Orders { get; set; }
To turn off Lazy loading remove the virtual key word as follows:
// Lazy Loading Is Disabled
public class Customers
public int Id { get; set; }
public string Name { get; set; }
public ICollection<Order> Orders { get; set; }
To turn of Lazy Loading for all entities using Code First you can do the following in the constructor of the DbContext.
public class MyContext : DbContext
public MyContext()
this.Configuration.LazyLoadingEnabled = false;
If the above does not meet your needs please tell us what version of the Entity Framework, which context type you are using, for example ObjectContext or DbContext, and which modeling you are using such as Code First, Model First or Database First.

Toplink JPA LAZY loading in Java SE works without javaagent?
hi there,
I tought that mappings like
@JoinColumn(name = "join_col_name")
@ManyToOne(cascade=CascadeType.ALL, fetch=FetchType.LAZY)
private RelatedObject relObj;
with TopLink JPA in Java SE environment works ONLY with the
-javaagent:toplink-essentials-agent.jar
JVM parameter?
the strange thing is: I did 2 test runs, with and without the java agent parameter. I also could see that in the first case the weaver is working, in the second the property "toplink.weaving=false" is printed to the console BUT if I access the LAZY mapped attribute of the object instance it works in both cases - I expected a NullPointerEx. in the case without the javaagent.
Is there anything I missed?
HansChris,
thank for for the tip about verifying lazy or eager fetching. The results are interesting - or better: confusing - to me:
I have built a test project with 3 entities:
Entity A hast @OneToMany to Entity B and
Entity B has ManyToONe to Entity C
A <-- B --> C
ALL relations are marked with FetchType.LAZY in all directions.
When I simply run the test project via main()-method out of eclipse, WITHTOUT specifycing a -javaagent parameter in the run dialog, I can confirm using your test case that the realtion IS LAZILY FETCHED.
So, I do not really know how this should work without the javaagent.
You mentioned statically weaved classed - is this the default case when no agent is present, how is it done? Toplink logging says that weaving is NOT active:
ServerSession(16821027)--Thread(Thread[main,5,main])--property=toplink.weaving; value=false
so how can the lazy loading work then?

Data not loading for new Fields InfoObjects from DSO to InfoCube
Hi Gurus -
I have a DataSource that is providing data to existing DSO then to Infocube. My client asked me to added couple fields to DataSource and get the data to DSO and then DSO to InfoCube.
Here is the Old scenarion: DataSource -> DSO -> InfoCube.
Here is the New Scenation:
DataSource ( Added new fields) -> DSO (added new InfoObjects for Corresponding DataSource FIelds) -> InfoCube( Added new InfoObjects to mapped from DSO)
I added the new fields to DataSource, added the corresponding InfoObjects to DSO and InfoCube.
I successfully loaded data from DataSource to DSO. Data is populating for the new Fields/InfoObjects in DSO.
But when I load data from DSO to InfoCube, I don't see any data for New Fields InfoObjects in the InfoCube.
Data from DSO to InfoCube is loading fine for the Old InfoObjects Fields but not for the New InfoObjects I added in InfoCube.
-SonaliHi,
Why dont u debug the load through DTP debugging and check what happens to the source field and target field once it passes through the transformation. You can easily trace back where the fields are becoming blank.
The loads which you have mentioned earlier did it have values in Added Records/Transferred Records column for the cube.

Enable lazy-loading for web dynpro ?
Hi,
i have an oss message opened, where i got the following message:
If you wish to change the start-up mode or enable lazy-loading,
these can be configured.
Please go to Windows->Preferences->Web Dynpro
and you can set the lazy loading or other start-up modes here
which will be then configured by default in your application-j2ee-engine.xml.
Please see attached snapshot.
Best Regards,
Vidya
what does he mean by 'windows->preferences->Web Dynpro' ??? WHERE do i have
to do this !
best regards, MartinHi Martin,
You have to change these setting in SAP Netweaver Developer Studio, when you open SAP Netweaver Developer Studio, you will have a Windows tab on the Top level Navigation, open that and Choose Preferences, and finally Choose "WebDynpro"..and make the changes..
Hope this helps,

JPA lazy loading with Firebirdsql
I'm trying to use FetchType.Lazy in @OneToOne associations, with a firebirdsql database.
Toplink JPA generates the sql query as follow:
SELECT FIELD1, FIELD2, _TOPLINK_FIELD3_VH, ... FROM TABLE.....
This select gets this error msg:
Exception [TOPLINK-4002] (Oracle TopLink Essentials - 2006.8 (Build 060829)): oracle.toplink.essentials.exceptions.DatabaseException
Internal Exception: org.firebirdsql.jdbc.FBSQLException: Exception. nullError Code: 0
(it can't find the TOPLINKFIELD3_VH field)
Is this an issue related to firebirdsql support on Toplink?
Or is it a issue related to firebirdsql JDBC driver/database?Don't double post. I've removed the thread you started 3 hrs 16 minutes after this one with the identically same question.

SQL loader for empty field at the end of the line
Hi,
I have following data file for sql loader. I am using Oracle 11.2. The table structure is table_a(id number, name varchar2(32), nbr number).
1, zzzz, 123
2, bbb,
3, ccc, 33
4, ddd,
Currently, I am using "TERMINATED BY ',' " in the control file for SQL loader. However row2 and row4 were thrown into the bad file. Any suggestion for me to load row2 and row4 into the table as well?
Thanks,Two of three columns in your table are named with reserved words.
My first suggestion is to run this query:
SELECT keyword
FROM v$reserved_words
ORDER BY 1;My second suggestion is that your read the FAQ and learn how to use tags to post listings to these forums so we can read what you post.
My third suggestion is that you go to my SQL*Loader Demos page of my website:
http://www.morganslibrary.org/reference/sqlloader.html
and look up "TRAILING NULLCOLS." -
How to configure lazy/eager loading for each JPA query
Hi!
I have extensive EJB model (entities with many child entities, entities with association to other large (many fields, BLOBs including) entities, and so on) and I would like for each JPA query configure what properties or associated entities (actually - in arbitrary depth) of selected entities should be fetched.
E.g. for one query I would like to fetch only Order (and no data of associated entities), but for other queries I would like to fetch Order, Order.Customer, Order.ShippingAddress.ZipCode and nothing else ( e.g. if there is Ordere.Route, Order.Billing and other associations, then I would like not to waste resources for fetching them). In both case the select clause of query can include only Order, but the results should be different - i.e. - there is no associated data in the first case and there are some associated data the second case.
I know that one solution is to declare all associations as lazy and then - after reading the result of query - do some touching for retrieving the associated data:
String check = order.Customer.toString();
check = order.ShippingAddess.ZipCode.toString();
But I see 2 problems with this: 1) it is not nice (resources are wasted for simply touching associated entities); 2) I assume that each "touch" operation generates other query to database that could be executed together with the original query. So - it would be nice to configure JPA query somehow to let it know which associations will be required from the result and which not.
What is the best practice?
I found, that JBoss server has lazy-loading-group configuration, but - I guess - it is JBoss specific:
http://docs.redhat.com/docs/en-US/JBoss_Enterprise_Application_Platform/4.2/html/Server_Configuration_Guide/Loading_Process-Lazy_loading_Process.html
besides - it is XML and it would be more pretty if query configuration could be done with annotations!JPQL has a "fetch" construct in which you can force a lazy element to be fetched using a query - I must note that I have had unexpected results with it in the past but that was using an old version of Hibernate and I wasn't very experienced with JPA yet.

Lazy loading or indirection for direct to field mapping striing object
Hi,
I need to achieve indirection for String instance variable, currently mapped using direct to field mapping.
This field is a text column in sql server storing large data which is rarely read.
Recently we have been noticing that it is causing lot of IO on our SAN system.
Is there a way indirection can be achieved for this which is currently mapped as direct to field.
I have tried using indirection in transformation mapping. But profiling db indicates above mentioned text column is still part of the select query.
Thanks
NageshHi Nagesh,
There is no support for lazy loading of DirectToField mappings in TopLink 10.1.3 POJO persistence. Typically, people who have large CLOBs or BLOBs will put them in a separate table to avoid loading them with their owner. If you can't refactor your data model to accomodate this things get more complicated. Do you ever update these large structures are they read only in your application? If they are read only then a very simple approach is to not map the large data column and instead lazily load the data with a report query.
Ideally you would upgrade to TopLink JPA in 11g where lazy loading of Basic mappings is supported. :-)

It seems you cannot clone objects with attributes using lazy loading in JPA
I have an entity with an attribute using lazy loading:
@Entity
public class B {
@ManyToOne(fetch=FetchType.LAZY)
private A a;
@Entity
public class A {
Assume the following code:
A a1 = new A();
A a2 = new A();
B b1 = EntityManager.find(B.class, ...);
b1.setA(a1);
B b2 = b1.clone();
b2.setA(a2);
Now with lazy loading enabled I get b1.getA() == a2 instead of b1.getA() == a1. Moreover, the debugger displays the same value holder in b1 and b2 for the attribute a. It appears as if cloning does not make a (deep) copy of the value holder managing the attribute a.
How can I create a copy b2 of b1, such that the value holder managing a in b1 is a different object as the value holder managing a in b2?
Thanks, Thomas.I have filed a bug to have this addressed in Oracle TopLink 11gR1. I would recommend you file a bug against TopLink Essentials in GlassFish or if you have a support contract report the issue to metalink to have the issue resolved.
If this is urgent I did try fixing the issue with a small helper method using some reflection. This method is simplified through its throwing of Exception. If you wish to use something like this I would recommend proper error handling.
* Helper method for cloning an entity and fixing the woven value-holders to
* complete a proper shallow cloning.
public static Employee clone(Employee entity) throws Exception {
Employee clone = entity.clone();
// Now fix the cloned ValueHolder references
Field[] fields = entity.getClass().getDeclaredFields();
for (int index = 0; index < fields.length; index++) {
Field field = fields[index];
if (field.getName().startsWith("_toplink_")) {
field.setAccessible(true);
ValueHolderInterface vhi = (ValueHolderInterface)field.get(entity);
Object value = vhi.isInstantiated() ? vhi.getValue() : null;
field.set(clone, new ValueHolder(value));
return clone;

Toplink.weaving=true gives PersistenceException; for Lazy Loading config.
I could use some help configuring my persistence.xml file, trying to make sure Lazy loading is configured properly. What I see in the logs normally is that Toplink defaults to Eager fetching on my JPA objects. So according to
http://www.oracle.com/technology/products/ias/toplink/JPA/essentials/toplink-jpa-extensions.html

The size limit of the OCI LOB Array Insert is 64K for one field?
I have a table with 4 field, and one is BLOB field. I want to insert 16 rows in one OCIStmtExecute. I know I can specify the iter parameter with 16 to execute sql 16 times.
I found example in "Application Developer's Guide - Large Objects" in page "Data Interface for Persistent LOBs 13-17", there is a example function called "array_insert". It shows the usage of OCIBindArrayOfStruct, but can only insert LOB with same size, the LOB field of each row filled with the same size data.
But I have to insert LOB with different size, for example 8K for row 1, and 16K for row 2, 128K for row 3. Than I find the alenp parameter of OCIBindByName/OCIBindByPos. It is "pointer to array of actual lengths of array elements."(OCI document). So I think I find the solution for my problem. But the type of alenp parameter is ub2*, is it means I can only insert 64K data for each row in my array insert? It is too small, I hope I can array insert BLOB with 16M each row.
Or there is any other solution for my problem? I look forward to it for a long time! thanks every one!It is called Data Interface to work with LOB datatypes by APIs designed for use with legacy datatypes. I can specify SQLT_BIN to bind memory binary data to BLOB column, and INSERT or UPDATE directly. It can be without LOB locator and save round-trip to the server. This is very fit my needs, because I have to insert very much BLOBs to server as soon as possible.
I have make a test program, and multi-row with different size blob( less than 65536 bytes) can be insert at one time, without locators. Multi-row wiht same size blob( more than 64K) also can be insert at one time--the alenp parameter is not used. I only can not insert multi-row with different size blob( more than 64k) because the type of alenp is ub2*.

Error loading large field with sql loader for 8i
I want to load a large field (30K) to a database, where I use "long" datatype for it. But I can't because it loads hexadecimal characters, or it get stuck in a loop and does not load anything. I have tried using clob and long in the database and using char(40000), char, and log varraw in the control file. Any idea or suggestion?
Thanks a lot.Hi,
from what I see you are running sqllldr in Windows and your database server is on AIX. Is it a remote server or a local network server?
The ORA-12170 error can be raised for many reasons: firewall issue, database down, listener down, bad sqlnet.ora parm, network trouble, etc
If your network is slow maybe that is the reason. You may post also SQLNET.ORa configuration and try to reconfigure parameters SQLNET.INBOUND_CONNECT_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.SEND_TIMEOUT, SQLNET.RECV_TIMEOUT in sqlnet.ora to larger values.
If your problem is not solved, please post your SQLNET.ORA configuration.
You can check here for details about setting it: Profile Parameters.
