JS metadata CS3 & CS2

I have a script in CS3 that writes to the documents meta data using:
myDocument.metadataPreferences.setProperty("http://ns.adobe.com/pdfx/1.3/", "myTitle", myTitle);
This works fine in CS3 but does not work in CS2.
if I try:
app.activeDocument.metadataPreferences.setProperty("http://ns.adobe.com/pdfx/1.3/", "myTitle", "myTitle");
In the console of ExtendScritp Toolkit I get:
Result: undefined
I need to make a CS2 version of this script so if anyone has any suggestions it would be greatly appreciated.

Looking to CS2 & CS3 rererences, the way to define Metadatapreferences is the same.
MetadataPreference.setProperty (namespace:string, path:string, value:string)
so it's quite weird.
Here is a example written by Olav,
Maybe you can watch for info in it :
//MetadataExample.jsx
//An InDesign CS2 JavaScript
//Adds metadata to an example document.
var myDocument = app.documents.add();
with (myDocument.metadataPreferences){
author = "Olav Martin Kvern";
copyrightInfoURL = "http://www.adobe.com";
copyrightNotice = "This document is copyrighted.";
copyrightStatus = CopyrightStatus.yes;
description = "Example of xmp metadata scripting in InDesign CS";
documentTitle = "XMP Example";
jobName = "XMP_Example_2003";
keywords = ["animal", "mineral", "vegetable"];
//The metadata preferences object also includes the read-only
//creator, format, creationDate, modificationDate, and serverURL
//properties that are automatically entered and maintained by InDesign.
//Create a custom XMP container, "email"
var myNewContainer = createContainerItem("http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/", "email");
setProperty("http://ns.adobe.com/xap/1.0/", "email/*[1]", "[email protected]");

  • Brightness/Contrast Problem in CS3 & CS2

    When I adjust (using legacy option) the sliders, then hit okay, the adjustments don't apply, and the image reverts to it's original state as if I hadn't adjusted the contrast or brightness at all. It did this in both CS3 & CS2. Has anyone else had this problem before?
    My workaround was to make a B/C adjustment layer and then merge visible to a new layer, but it did the exact same thing. The new merged layer didn't have the B/C applied to it. This is very strange.

    We should move on but calling someone rude because they misunderstood something and made a poor judgement is uncalled for.
    Moving on I think that the advice to use curve instead of B?C would offer better control
    As to why the adjustment layer you used did not have an effect as expected there may have been a small selection active when you invoked the layers adjustment everything seem to work but it is is only being applied to what might be a very small selection. Perhaps one you are accidentally creating. Check to see if you have a selection tool active and watch how you are moving the cursor.
    I hold the stylus in a funny way and sometimes make a selection and swear i am not touching the tablet with the stylus but on more careful observation or by just hitting escape or command D and then making the adjustment all is well.
    This might not be your problem but it is the only one I can think of at the moment.
    if this is the problem keep in mind this is not really a photoshop problem or solution and an unlikely scenario, even though it is a possible one.
    No one here would be expected to know this and of course it can be quite off base.

  • Can I Export Metadata Using CS2?

    Hi Everbody,
    I'd like to generate a text file for my client with filenames, captions, and credits. Can I do this from CS2 somehow? I can't see how to do it in Bridge or Photoshop at this point. Thanks in advance for your time, folks.
    Phil

    Phil,
    Go to www.creativescripting.net
    Look for the barred rock scripts. There's a script in there that exports metadata to a csv file.
    Make sure you download all the docs too!

  • Problems opening & resaving NEF files with CS3/CS2

    I seem to be having problems sending my NEF files to Photoshop from Aperture. This started happening just today & I'm not sure what to do.
    What happens is that when I open a NEF file in external editor, instead of just opening up as a psd file in CS3 or CS2 directly like it used to do, it now opens Adobe Raw instead which means that I am unable to resave back into my Aperture Library. Is there anyone who has experienced this as well? Any suggetions as to the cause and a solution? I tried checking preferences for both Aperture as well as Photoshop but nothing seems to work.
    The only thing I can think of is having just updated Adobe Raw to the latest version, 4.3 I think. Other than that Aperture did start up about a week ago & declared my library corrupt & proceeded to rebuild my library. Other than that it was behaving normally until today. Its really irritating & counter productive to be unable to resave my edits in Aperture.
    Any help or suggestions will be very welcome indeed. Thanks in advance.

    Thanks for the tip Eduardo, but I checked the preferences and they seem to be correct.
    It seems that only images in certain projects were affected. Could be the ones that Aperture rebuilt earlier. I guess I may have to try exporting the raw files from the affected projects, then deleting and reimporting the projects again. I did try to rebuild the thumbnails but it doesn't seem to help.
    Does anyone have any other suggestions for me to try before I do this?

  • Inaccurate import of DWG into CS3 (CS2 okay)

    Boyees...
    I work in an engineering environment and just updated to CS3. I'm pretty happy except for a foible in the import engine for DWG files. For some reason the import engine has changed and now the size of imported mechanical files is wrong. As an example, if I import a 10-inch square DWG file it gets imported into CS3 as 9.9945-inches square. CS2 does not have this foible and imports accurately.
    If I copy and past from CS2, it retains the proper dimensions.
    I hope Adobe fixes this...
    Jb

    If you want this fixed you will have to make a little effort, I once made a bug report at CAD files and Adobe responded they fixed that issue but there were others I mentioned and they responded and I had a little influence but only a little and one or two things were changed besides the issue I reported.
    Then Adobe no longer asked me about issues related to CAD. So I think they stopped receiving bug reports about CAD issues like this one whcih we receive frequently on the Forum.
    If you ll file this bug report then it might have influence nd they might come around and see if thy can fix it.
    It is important you tell them how this adversely effects your work flow. I believe this may never have actually been brought to their attention.
    I know I have never filed it as an issue since it does not affect my work.
    Here is were you report the issue, if you don't report it it will not be fixed as they will not know the issue exist.

  • Upgrade to Photoshop CS5 from CS3/CS2/6.0

    I purchased Adobe Photoshop 6.0, then upgraded to CS2, then CS3.
    Can I upgrade to CS5?
    If so, can I install the trial and later activate it once I have the key?
    Since the key is an upgrade key, what is it going to ask for to verify the fact that the CS3 version (which was an upgrade) was based on a full retail version?
    The reason for all these questions is that I'm going to be upgrading from Vista 32 bit to Windows 7 64 bit. I'd like to just install Photoshop CS5 and try it out, then order the upgrade to complete the install later. I'm concerned about an upgrade not being appropriate (1) and a need to install Photoshop CS3 completely and then run the update to CS5. If I have to do that, I may just install CS3 after my Windows upgrade.
    Thanks in advance for your responses. While I did see some questions about upgrading, I missed this exact scenario if it was previously posted.

If I have to do that, I may just install CS3 after my Windows upgrade.osted.
    The upgrade process is really quite straightforward these days - even on a new box which has never previously had Adobe software installed.
    Upgrades are as good as full versions once installed. When installing upgrades, all that matters is that you have a serial number to an earlier qualifying version handy - Adobe has given up tracing this all the way back to your full version which could be up to 20 years ago. Upgrade serial numbers can only be verified by serial numbers up to 3 versions back anyway so Photoshop CS does not qualify for a CS5 upgrade.
    There's no need to install older versions on a new computer before installing the CS5 upgrade version. It's actually the full code on the disk regardless of whether you purchased a full version or an upgrade - the serial number tells the installer if you've bought an upgrade or full version license.
    When you enter your upgrade serial number for CS5, the installer will ask you to enter an earlier qualifying serial number (full or upgrade does not matter). I've successfully completed this exact scenario myself several times.
    The only caveat to the above is that there is a world of difference in licensing terms (and serial numbers) between a suite and a standalone version. If you install a CS5 suite trial then want to keep just the Photoshop component (and enter its serial number), you'll have to uninstall the entire suite first then install the upgrade version of standalone Photoshop CS5. Then enter your CS5 serial number then verify by entering your CS3 serial number.

  • Illustrator CS3/CS2 text engine comaptibility with CS

    Is the text engine in Illustrator CS2 and CS3 backward compatible with Illustrator CS? We are considering upgrading to a newer version but need to understand the impact on the original text - much of which is in foreign languages.

    The basic text engine changed at AI 11 (CS) and, to the best of my knowledge, has remained the same since.
    If you can't get a clear answer from Adobe on this, post a small test file created in AI 11. (Use a font we're likely to have, e.g, Arial Unicode.) Those of us here with 12 and 13 will then open it and report the results.
    If you haven't yet seen it,

    is Mordy Golding's original post on the new text engine, now archived as FAQ #5.

  • I do not have cs3, cs2, or cs1 illustrator. But i just purchased a new cs4 for my ibook g4, how can i install without previous serial numbers?

    Hello...I'm still kind of fresh to the Apple world.  I did not know that you needed previous apps to add an old one.  In my pc days, you just cleared your drive.  Help!  I hope I didn't blow my money on an old laptop and new program!!!!

    Mattie,
    When you buy an Adobe application second hand, you need a licence transfer through Adobe. The (final) application cannot have been used for any kind of upgrade, but it may be an upgrade itself and require serial numbers from the one(s) that went before it.

  • Trouble creating an object where I want within a layer in CS3/CS2

    Whenever I create an object it will go to the top of the layer. I click on the name of the object I want it to be on top of, but 99% of the time it goes to the top of the layer. I know I can move it after I make it, but it's kind of a drag. Threw out prefs. This is on a G5, system 10.4.11, 4.5 gigs ram. Don't know about CS4.
    Seems like this shouldn't be an issue. Am I doing something wrong?

    Actually, if you think about it, it would make much more sense to have some control over the location of a newly drawn object in the layer stack. In fact, if you think about it, the only time it would make sense for a newly drawn object to appear at the top is when there is no way of specifying otherwise, as in Illustrator.
    If I know where in the stack I want an object, it is inefficient (and strange) to have to draw it, select it, cut it, select the object that I want in front or behind it, then paste it... if you think about it.
    Long aware of the Paste Behind, Paste in Front commands. But I've thought about it: they're an inefficient way to place new objects in the layer stack. Better to hightlight an existing object, start drawing and have that new object appear above the selected one.
    And if you think about it even more, if I can select an object and paste in front of it, why shouldn't I be able to select an object and draw in front of it? Same idea, but far more elegant and parsimonious, don't you think? We dispense with all the selecting and cutting and selecting and pasting this way.

  • Apostrophe glyph does not transfer from CS3 to CS2 by inx

    Can someone please confirm this: The Apostrophe glyph does not transfer by inx from CS3 5.0.2(640) to CS2 4.0.5(688).
    It does transfer by inx from CS2 4.05(688) to CS1 3.0.1(838).
    It also does roundtrip in CS3, CS2, and CS.
    This is not a problem for me now that I know about it. I just wanted to report it for the benefit of others, as this is a commonly used character.
    I tested this with Times (T1) in a very simple file containing just the apostrophe glyph followed by the lower case "x". These tests were conducted in Tiger 10.4.11.
    It seems like it may be related to the similar problem with bullet glyphs that has been mentioned by Sandee and others in this forum.
    Al

    I can reproduce the report by Klaus of being able to put in the "missing" apostrophe with a text editor. <br /><br />But using TextWrangler I was unable to find the "missing" apostrophe in the CS3 inx by searching for "'" or "0027" (the Unicode value for the apostrophe).<br /><br />Now, since IDCS3 is able to open its own inx including the apostrophe glyph, it must be encoding it in the inx in some special way.<br /><br />Exploring the IDCS2 inx for a test file with the string "CHICKEN 'N WAFFLES" shows that it is saved as "c_CHICKEN"+"&apos"+";N WAFFLES". Then searching from the top for the string "&apos", finds 5 instances of it. While a simillar search for "&apos" in the CS3 inx finds only one instance of it.<br /><br />Clearly IDCS3 and IDCS2 write their inx files differently. No surprise there. Searching the CS3 inx for *parts* of "CHICKEN 'N WAFFLES" locates:<br /><br /><txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Helvetica"><br />               <pcnt>c_CHICKEN </pcnt><br />          </txsr><br />          <txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" ligt="b_f" font="c_Helvetica" OTca="b_f"><br />               <pcnt>e_SSSq</pcnt><br />          </txsr><br />          <txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Helvetica"><br />               <pcnt>c_N WAFFLES</pcnt><br />          </txsr><br /><br />Now if I paste in a copy of the lines :<br /><br />          <txsr prst="o_u65" crst="o_u62" paln="e_cent" ptfs="c_Medium" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Helvetica"><br />               <pcnt>c_N WAFFLES</pcnt><br />          </txsr><br /><br />after the first occurrence and save the file from TextWrangler, it will then reopen in IDCS3 with the text string "CHICKEN ''N WAFFLES" (note the two apostrophes).<br /><br />But in the case of the string " 'x" as the only contents of the text frame where the apostrophe *does* transfer from CS3 to CS2 it is encoded this way:<br /><br />          <txsr prst="o_u6b" crst="o_u68" ptfs="c_Regular" ptsz="U_18" ligt="b_f" font="c_Times (TT)" OTca="b_f"><br />               <pcnt>c_ &apos;</pcnt><br />          </txsr><br />          <txsr prst="o_u6b" crst="o_u68" ptsz="U_18" font="c_Times (TT)"><br />               <pcnt>c_x</pcnt><br />          </txsr><br /><br />Note the "&apos" in that code, which is what CS2 is able to import.<br /><br />Conclusion: IDCS3 does indeed save the apostrophe in the inx in a completely different way than IDCS2, and in different ways under different circumstances. So the bug is that Abobe forgot to take into account how the new way of writing the apostrophe would affect IDCS2's ability to import it. <br /><br />Al

  • Bridge CS3 ver 2.1.0.100 most  buggy bridge ever

    With previous versions of bridge for CS3 I had occasional problems. The most vexing was that some Canon xti Camera raw files (CR2) and dng files could not have their file info changed via bridge. When I would right click on these files, the file menu that came up would lack the choice for modifying file information. It was impossible for these few files to use bridge CS3 to get to fields such as document title, author, author title, description, etc.
    If I opened the same exact files in the bridge for CS2, it was possible to modify file info for every one of them. The problem files when later opened in bridge CS3 would show the file info put into them with the CS2 bridge--the one that worked. It was still impossible however in bridge CS3 to modify the file info for these occasional files.
    I made the great mistake of upgrading to bridge CS3 2.1.0.100. Today I took more than 240 photos. It is not possible to modify the file info for any of them with lousy bridge 2.2.0.100.
    The new version also crashes much more often,simply disappearing without any error messages.
    In addition, at least some photos whose file info could be accessed via the older version of bridge CS3, no longer allow such access under the newest bridge version.
    The new bridge version is a massive step backward.
    Open challenge to Adobe--I will be happy to send you 200 plus problem files that only work properly with older versions of bridge. You could use them to fix bridge.

    I have found CS3 less buggy that I expected.
    I have found "Bridge CS3" outstanding, but no doubt, some will experience problems.
    Experience is great teacher
    But I do keep CS2 on my machine for those times I cannot wait for whatever fix might be necessary.
    Do not worry.
    The problems many are having, whatever that may be, and it is somewhat varied, will most likely be worked out in CS4.
    I contribute many of these problems to be lack of control over the hardware that the software must function on. Windows vs. Mac ideologies rear their heads here. I use Windows and that is definitely my problem.
    Get used to it.
    CS4 whatever = CS3 whatever with most problems fixed.
    CS3 = CS2 with most CS2 problems worked out with some tool palette changes users have been asking for years, along with "some" real graphic ability improvement, along with some abilities that probably > 80% of us will never use. Better camera support in Camera RAW.
    Most all of this depends on how much money you have to devote to Photoshop, its upgrades , and the cost of the demands for appropriate hardware.
    Note:
    I was just using the "spelling checker". On this forum "Photoshop" is an unrecognized word. It wants to spell it:
    "Photo shop"
    or
    "Photos hop"
    Go figure.
    Just my 2 bit opinion which wouldn't buy you a cup of coffee or anything else.

  • Question about CS5 Upgrade from CS3

    Hi everyone,
    I have Adobe CS3 and want to upgrade to CS5.  I noticed Staples are selling the CS5 upgrade version for a decent price.
    But it doesn't state if it's for CS4 or CS3/CS2.  I contacted them, but they said they are both the same.... but I don't know if I can believe them.
    Is the upgrade version for CS4 and CS3/CS2 the same thing in retail outlets? (i.e. you can enter in a CS4, CS3, and CS2 serial number for the same disc or is there separate products for each previous version - i.e. CS4 upgrade is different than a CS3 upgrade?)
    I noticed when you buy it from the Adobe Store or even other sites like Newegg, they are marked as 'CS4 Upgrade' and 'CS3/CS2 Upgrade'... but on Staples its only 'Upgrade' and they told me it 'probably works for CS3 as well'.
    Link to product on Staples site:  http://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?CatIds=&webid=885931&affixedcode=WWhttp://www.staples.ca/ENG/Catalog/cat_sku.asp?webid=885938&CatIds=&AffixedCode=WW
    Your help is greatly appeciated!
    Thanks!
    J

    The upgrades are different in that they require different serial numbers for the upgrade. I don't believe you can use the CS 4 upgrade if you only have CS3. Call Customer Service to get an official response.

  • CS3 will not reload

    Something caused Photoshop CS3 to be corrupted so I uninstalled and reinstalled and I get the same error message. HAve been trying for a month and now I am desperate. The error message comes up with photoshop is first starting. All it says is that Adobe Photoshop encountered an error and will now close. No numbers . . . nothing. I have uninstalled and deleted everything, ran CCLeaner afterwards and then downloaded a fresh copy, installed  . . . same message.
    I am really in dire straits now with upcoming projects. Help will be so appreciated.

    Well, if you see the splash screen (the rectangular window that shows what Photoshop is loading) during startup, it can help you find out the source of the problem. (And, in turn, we can most likely help you out.)
    Just below the version number in the splash screen, there's a line that shows what's currently loading.  For example, you might see "Reading Preferences" and "Initializing Panels" and similar messages.
    Try starting Photoshop and pay attention to this loading line. The last item that displays is most likely where the problem lies.
    If you need to try starting Photoshop a few times to catch what it says, then go ahead.
    If the last thing is "Building TWAIN menu items" then see Photoshop CS3, CS2, or Photoshop Elements fails to start after installing a scanner. (This document, which is for CS4, actually has better info, but doesn't give the right location for CS3.)
    If it's something else, just let us know and we'll try to help you out.
    And if you're not even seeing the splash screen, let us know that too.

  • Activate copy of illustrator cs4, i have CS3 design prem. installed

    One of my users has a copy of CS3 design premium installed and we bought a copy of Illustrator CS4 to install on his machine.  After the install it asks me for the CS4's S/N then asks me to supply a serial for any previous copy of illustrator cs3/cs2/cs and this is where the problem is.  I dont technically have a serial for any previous copy of illustrator CS; i have serials for the full Creative Suite 3 Design Prem and when I try to punch in that serial it doesnt like it.  so now currently the user is using Illustrator CS4 in trial mode...
    All copies are legit - media in hand

    If I understand correctly, you're out of luck. I think you can install an upgrade for the entire suite or an individual application depending on what you had purchased and installed before. The AI 14 (CS4) upgrade installer is looking for a standalone installation of an earlier Illustrator. The CS3 suite serial number, therefore, is not recognized.
    It's all very silly to me, but if I'm right about this, your only recourse is to purchase the CS4 suite or the full install (not upgrade) version of AI 14.
    Hope you kept your receipt for the AI 14 upgrade version.
