If I want to reset my iPod touch 2nd generation, how do I put all of my purchased music and apps back on the iPod?

Sync it from your computer.

  • IPOD Touch 2nd Generation A1288 will not Restore/Reset

I have an iPOD Touch 2nd Generation A1288 that has gone into disabled mode. The Apple instructions for putting my device into recovery mode are not working and I have a new computer that has never connected/synced with this iPOD before :-( . iTunes just keeps telling me it can't connect to the ipod because I need to type my password into my ipod. IPOD screen still just says disabled. I have tried to get it into restore mode so many times that the "power off slider" won't appear on screen anymore when I hold down the sleep/wake button. The screen just goes black. When I press the home button the disabled screen pops up again.  Do I need to take my iPOD to an apple store? The iPOD is named with my name and I have my ID to show the iPOD is mine so will they help me at the store? I have been researching for hours it seems and I just can't find further help on restoration/reset. Side note: was my daughters old iPOD and she does not remember what the password is. Ugh... teenagers! thanks ahead of time.

No reason for an Apple store visit. It not an ID problem at all
Place the iOS device in Recovery Mode and then connect to your computer and restore via iTunes. The iPod will be erased.
iOS: Forgot passcode or device disabled
If recovery mode does not work try DFU mode.

    For how to restore:
    iTunes: Restoring iOS software
    To restore from backup see:
iOS: Back up and restore your iOS device with iCloud or iTunes
If you restore from iCloud backup the apps will be automatically downloaded. If you restore from iTunes backup the apps and music have to be in the iTunes library since synced media like apps and music are not included in the backup of the iOS device that iTunes makes.
You can redownload most iTunes purchases by:
Downloading past purchases from the App Store, iBookstore, and iTunes Store
If problem what happens or does not happen and when in the instructions? When you successfully get the iPod in recovery mode and connect to computer iTunes should say it found an iPod in recovery mode.

  • IPod Touch (2nd Generation): Erase and Reset all contents before selling

    Dear all,
I have an iPod Touch sencnd generation and I am about to ship it out to someone who has bought it online. I want to delete *all* the important info I have on this piece of hardware and reset it to the default settings. I have gone through the following steps so far: settings > general > reset > "erase all settings and contents."
But I wonder if with a sophisticated software someone can still recover my previously stored passwords and private materials on this iPod Touch. How is it possible to completely zero out the hard drive just like you'd do on a computer? How reliable is "erase all settings and contents" by the way?
    Many thanks,
    Ron

I would be satisfied with what you did.  The iPod touches use Flash storage so there is no hard drive.  You can tr erasing all contents amd setting a few times since that overwrites existing data.  From the Users Guide:
Erase all content and settings:  Connect iPod touch to your computer or a power
adapter. Choose General > Reset and tap “Erase All Content and Settings.”
This resets all settings to their defaults and erases all your information and media:
Â On iPod touch 3rd generation or later:  by removing the encryption key to the data
(which is encrypted using 256-bit AES encryption)
Â On iPod touch 2nd generation:  by overwriting the data
Important:  You can’t use iPod touch while data is being overwritten. This can take
up to four hours or more, depending on the model and storage capacity of your
iPod touch. (On iPod touch 3rd generation or later, the encryption key is removed
    immediately.)

  • HT1430 i recieved an ipod touch 2nd generation as a gift and they have reset it to factory settings and now its stuck on a screen showing an adaptor with itunes music symbol on it. I do not know where to go from here.

I recieved an apple ipod touch 2nd generation as a gift and they have reset it to factory settings and now it is stuck on a screen with an adaptor showing with the itunes music symbol at the top of the screen.

    Restore...
Connect via cable to the computer that you intend to use for sync.  From iTunes, select the iPad/iPod and then select the Summary tab.  Follow the on-screen directions for Restore and be sure to say "yes" to the backup.  You will be warned that all data (apps, music, movies, etc.) will be erased but, as the Restore finishes, you will be asked if you wish the contents of the backup to be copied to the iPad/iPod.  Again, say "yes."
At the end of the basic Restore, you will be asked if you wish to sync the iPad/iPod.  As before, say "yes."  Note that that sync selection will disappear and the Restore will end if you do not respond within a reasonable time.  If that happens, only the apps that are part of the IOS will appear on your device.  Corrective action is simple -  choose manual "Sync" from the bottom right of iTunes.
If you're unable to do the Restore and you have IOS-6 or lower, go into Recovery Mode per the instructions here.  Also, if you have IOS-7, read this.

  • The speakers on my iPod Touch 2nd generation stopped working.

The speakers on my iPod Touch 2nd generation stopped working.  The volume doesn't even register - can't turn it up or down.  On occasion the headphones will work when plugged in.  Turned it off and on, tried reset, nothing works.  I bought it second hand so no AppleCare. What can I do?

Try restoring the iPod via iTunes on your computer.  First from backup and if problem persists restore to factory defaults/new iPod.

  • Ipod touch 2nd Generation can't download Apps?

My nephew was given a ipod touch 4th generation, and so he gave me his ipod touch 2nd generation; after resetting the ipod and setting up an account on itunes, as well as authorising my computer, this ipod can not download apps like angry birds, however it could before! Please explain why this is and how i can fix this?

The 2G can only go as high as 4.2.1
Many developers when they updated their apps to support iOS 5 and 6 dropped compatibility for iOS 4.2.1 and earlier.
Your only way is if you have the version that was compatible on your computer such as in the recycle bin/trash or in a computer file backup. In that case delete the current version that is in your iTunes App library and replace it with the older version. Then sync.

  • Missing Apple Application iPod touch (2nd generation

    Help,
I can't find the App Store /Safari icons on my Ipod Touch (2nd generation) anywhere. I tried to enable/disable Restriction several time and the icons are still missing ? I even tried to reset the ipod touch and it doesn't seems to work still.
    thanks,

    Try:
    - iOS: Not responding or does not turn on
    - Also try DFU mode after try recovery mode

    - If not successful and you can't fully turn the iOS device fully off, let the battery fully drain. After charging for an least an hour try the above again.
    - Try on another computer
    - If still not successful that usually indicates a hardware problem and an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is in order.

  • IPod touch 2nd generation. Where is app button? Had it before.

where is app button on iPod touch 2nd generation? I have an iTunes button that takes me to the store, but no apps in the store. Just music.

If you forgot/do not have your Restrictions passcode the:
    - Restore from a backup that was make before you added the Restrictions passcode. If you restore from a backup made with the Restrictions passcode the Restrictions passcode is also restored.
    - Restore to factory settings/new iPod.
    - If you are up to it see:

  • WRT310Nv2 vs. iPod Touch 2nd generation (WPA2)

I'm trying to connect an iPod Touch 2nd generation to my WRT310Nv2 'WPA2 Personal' network.  I already previously connected:
    4 PCs
    2 Tivos
    1 Wii
    1 iPhone 3GS
The iPod Touch is running a clean install of iPhone OS 4 beta (yes, I know - I like to play).
The iPod Touch sees the network but doesn't accept the passphrase.
I really don't want to revert my network to insecure WEP just for this **bleep** iPod Touch.
    Anyway know the magic trick?
It looks like other manufacturer routers don't have this problem.

Are you getting any error message...?
First thing to do is try and reset your iPod. This is just like rebooting your computer when a program is frozen. To reset, hold the sleep wake button on the top of the iPod Touch and at the same time, hold the Home button/key. Continue to hold until you see the Apple Logo, then release. When the screen comes back, go to Settings/and tap on WiFI. This will display networks available and within range. Choose a network by tapping on it. Enter a password. A check mark will appear in front of the Network Name if you connect.Go to your home screen (press the Home Button/Key) and launch Safari and try to connect with a webpage. If the issue persists, try resetting your network.
Try changing the Wireless Channel on the router and check. Also reduce the security on your router from WPA2 to WPA and check if that make any difference.

I have an iPod touch 2nd generation and my touch screen doesn't work, at all. What should I do?

    Try:
    - Reset the iOS device. Nothing will be lost
Reset iOS device: Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears.
    - Restore from backup. See:

Apple will exchange your iPod for a refurbished one for this price. They do not fix yours. I say not worth it for a 2G

A third-party place like the following maybe less. Google for more. Again, likely not worth it for a 2G

  • Ipod touch 2nd generation help

    Hello all,
I just recieved a hand me down ipod touch 2nd generation and is experiencing one major problem. Whenever I try to do anything on it, music, apps, etc, it will randomly shut itself off (the screen does an old tv gray line flash to the center thing before turning off), just to see the apple logo appear as a reboot on it's own.  do not believe it was ever jailbroken (considering it's last owner wouldn't know how). it is on os 4.2.1, and the battery is depleting at a normal rate considering how old it is. I have tried turning off the wifi, blutooth, deleting all apps other than stock, reset all settings, and of course went into safe mode and not in safe mode to reformatt the thing in itunes more than once. Any ideas? It's too bad, because it is in good shape and works fine other than this one major flaw, and of course for the price of customer service and repairs, I might as well get a new one.
    Thanks,
    Nicholas.

All yu can do is to try the standard fixes:
    - Reset. Nothing will be lost.
Reset iPod touch:  Hold down the On/Off button and the Home button at the same time for at
least ten seconds, until the Apple logo appears
    - Restore from backup
    - Restore to factory defaults/new iPod.
If you still hyave the problem you likely have a hardware problem.

  • My Ipod touch 2nd generation won't turn on.

My Ipod touch 2nd generation won't turn on, except when I plug it in. When it's plugged in, it works fine, but when I unplug it, the screen turns black. The secont i plug it in again, it shows the apple logo as if i shut it down. When unplugged, it is unresponsive, i've tried everything with the home button and power button, doesn't move, it's just black. I've reset the Ipod, I know it is not a software issue. Sometimes it works, but as soon as i push the sleep button it doesn't turn back on till plugged back in. The battery's bad, but it can still last up to 30 minutes. I don't think it's worth buying a new battery, may as well buy an Ipod 5. (pretty cool)

i just bought this ipod touch 2nd generation and te wifi is greyed out ive tried resetting and looking for airplane mode but its not there any help please????

    See:
iOS: Wi-Fi or Bluetooth settings grayed out or dim
One user reported that placing the iPod in the freezer fixed the problem. A trick that works frequently with iPhones:
Settings > AirPlane Mode ON, Do Not Disturb ON
Power down and wait 5-10 minutes
    Power up
Settings > AirPlane Mode OFF, Do Not Disturb OFF
If not successful, an appointment at the Genius Bar of an Apple store is usually in order.
