Jtree look like a family tree

Hi,
Just wondering if anybdy has ever seen or written a jtree with the root node at the top in the middle and the nodes expanding below kind of like a family tree?
Is this possible to do using JTree or would I have to write my own component?
Any hints would be appreciated!

Not sure... it is a JTree basically, but the root is at top center instead. You could probably rework the layout manager the tree uses, or maybe by setting component orientation? Give those a try.

  • Please help me in Database designing like "Legacy" family tree

    I want to design a database like Leagacy System(Family Tree). So any one can give me the database if you have or give me your Idea about the tables needed.

    If wanna keep this simple, you can have 2 tables at least, one is the actual information (Names, Classification, ...etc) and the other is a lookup (Dictionary) table which contains the Classification information that need to be looked up.

    If the former, post some code and ask a specific question about what you don't know or understand. Better still, post a SSCCE that clearly demonstrates your problem.
    If the latter, you might consider asking the source, since we know nothing about it. Of course, I'm assuming you have the right to use the code.

    If you go to Settings do you see an entry for the Nike app? There is no way to delete or hide that app?
    Have you tired using the Spotlight search? Maybe you just can't find it.
    Next would be to restore a gain. First from backup then next to factory settings/new iPod.
    The Nike app you can download/install
    Nike+ Running for iPhone 3GS, iPhone 4, iPhone 4S, iPhone 5, iPod touch (3rd generation), iPod touch (4th generation), iPod touch (5th generation) and iPad on the iTunes App Store
    Does work on the iPOd. You just do not get all the information that GPS/cellular connection can get. You will still be able to get distance/footstrikes like the installed app an you do not need the shoe sensor.. It uses the built-in sensors on the iPod

    not only can you not put font tags on a page title.
    its nested wrong.
    in any case the font tag is deprecated
    secondly
    whats with these style declarations?
    .aliensheading { color: #008080;}
    .aliensheading { color: #008080;}
    .aliensheading { font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;}

    .aliensheading1 {font-family: Verdana, Geneva, sans-serif;}
    its just duplication of the same thing
    is aliensheading any different to aliensheading1 at all?
    and again here
    .GREEN1 {color: #008080;}
    .GREEN1 {color: #008080;}
    .GREEN1 {color: #008080;}

    thirdly what is this???

  • After updating a program (Family Tree Builder), I started Firefox and now have a special tool bar for My Genealogy every time I start up....did not ask for it, don't want it....deleted the program, but how do I fix Firefox?

    I then deleted Firefox as a program and lost all my bookmarks, special apps....how do I delete the special tool bar (and start page) without having to delete Firefox and my setups.

    Hi ed652gray. You may uninstall the toolbar on the Control Panel, using the "Uninstall a program" option. Look for something like "Family Tree Builder Toolbar" or "My Genealogy Toolbar".
    If you only want to hide the toolbar, you can check this article:

  • How do I build a family tree on macbook pro

    Any suggestions/recommendations on how to build a family tree on my MacBook Pro? Should I use Numbers or Pages? I am used to using Window based programs. Not interested in paying $100 for a template.
    I am starting with my grandparents, then their 8 children (my aunts and uncles), then my generation (cousins), then our children, and 1 more generation. Would like to add birth/death/married dates, and possiblly geographical info.
    I appreciate your help and time - thank you.

    Best of all would be an application designed for the purpose, such as (for example) MacFamilyTree, but you can make a mock family tree using cells in Excel or Numbers.

  • Looks like I have an operating system/software incompatibility

    Still working on trying to resolve the problem I posed earlier today in the "MacBooks" Forum. Here's what I'm dealing with:
    In 2002, I impulsively bought a MacBook, loaded several of my favorite apps, but otherwise really didn't use it until 2010 — when realizing that my desktop iMac was about to fail, I quickly loaded  a stack of valuable documents onto the MacBook (probably via the local area network I was using at the time).
    Since then, the MacBook has been just sitting on my desk . . . untouched, except for the endless stack of papers accumulated on top of it. (Also disconnected the LAN when the back-up Mac I was using for storage and emergencies bit the dust 1-2 years ago.
    Yesterday, I decided it was time to clear the desk space, so booted up the MacBook intending to transfer the documents to a CD before removing them from the Mac; but ran into a problem when the CD/DVD icon failed to show up on the desktop.In addition, although the MacBook runs fine when the  CD tray is empty, it  immediately freezes when the disk is added . . . while  MacBook itself  NEVER loads if the CD is already in the tray when I first turn it on.
    Apple Menu and Extension folder both show the CD/DVD driver, but error message states  "this MAc does not support  the Apple DVD driver."
    The only explanation I can think of is a conflict between the OS and the CD player, but if so, don't  understand why, since the CD player was original equipment on the  MacBook when I bought it from a dealer (probably around mid-July 2002).
    It's also unlikely that I upgraded the original OS — especially since it is still using version 9.2 . . .  and I just read an old press release stating Apple was switching to OS X for all Mac's effective by the end of August 2002.
    As a long-time  MacUser, I have a stack of OS disks for Macs I purchased when disks were still part of the package . . . including Version 9.2 (dated 2001) . . . an undated Apple Hardware Test  . . . and a DVD install disk for Mac OS 10.5 — as well as later upgrades.
    If I were  certain things wouldn't go from bad to worse, I'd consider loading  the 10.3 or 0.4 disks, but first would like to hear  from someone who can clue me in regarding  possible risks.
    BTW, spoke by phone with a live Apple rep this morning (actually 3 different ones, because my call  kept being escalated) but he was unable toa dvise me, because  his job training didn't go that far back.
    BTW . . .Current  product list below is incorrect, but I was unable to update it.  At the moment, in addition to the MacBook, I am down to just a late 21.5-inch (late 2012)  iMac, LG  external optical drive and  iPad Mini (all purchased last summer).

    Not sure  what happened to the update I submitted yesterday . . .or where it went — but I have made a little  progress:
    After  combing thru the web for 36 hours, I found a couple of helpful leads, including one that mentioned early MacBooks sometimes had problems dealing with CDs with recording capacities of up to 80 minutes. When I checked, sure enough the Memorex disk I was using  fell into that category; but in the process of  checking it out, I also discovered that I had inadvertently loaded  2 graphic images onto the disk . . . forgotten to label it and put it back in the box. But it also was unable to read a brand new Memorex disk from the same sleeve of disks, either.
    And as it turned out, neither could the built-in optical drive on my old back-up iMac, or the external portable DVD writer I bought to replace the built-in one missing from the newer desktop Mac I bought last year. However, all 3 could read the 74-minute pre-recorded Verbatim disk containing music and the 80 minute Imation disk with graphic images, while MacBook was the only one unable to open a pristine 80-minute Verbatim disk.
    The bottom line was that when I contacted Verbatim for help in understanding why the MacBook could open that company's 74-munute disk but  not an 80-minute disk, the tech support rep recommended upgrading the firmware — a suggestion I temporarily put on hold, after suddenly remembering I also had a thumb drive that might work. . . It did!! . . . At least to the extent that I've been able to transfer small batches of files  from the MacBook to my newest desktop Mac.
    The downside is that now that some of them made the journey safely, the majority still can't be read because they were converted to linux while in transit.
    The reason, of course, is obvious (or at least I think it is). Although I never bothered to examine the documents after I transferred them (for safety's sake)  to the MacBook when I realized my "backup Mac"  had serious problems, the only ones I might have been able to open then were the ones created in Word, or updated Photoshop software. But most of the documents were created in PageMaker and versions of Adobe Illustrator commonly used  when I bought the MacBook back in 2002.
    IOW — it looks like the Verbatim rep probably was correct. The  OS on the MacBook likely needs updating — something I actually might be able to do.
    Because my only purpose in buying the MacBook was related to a specific family event, there is no question that I bought it some time between mid-June and mid-July, 2002 — less than 2 weeks before Apple announced that by the end of August 2002, all Macs sold would be using 0S 10. But since I had the sales receipts to prove how recently I had bought my MacBook, Apple agreed to send me upgrade disks.  I'm not sure how or why, but I ended up with disks for both OS 10.3 and OS 10.4 (as well as update disks for all other versions except 10.8.3 — which came pre-installed on my current Mac, but without backup disks)
    Now being old enough and wise enough to look before I leap — while I'm assuming  it's safe to use the first set of install disks, I'm curious to know if doing so:
    1. . . . will enable the MacBook to read any new, commercial CD-R disk, and
    2. . . . is likely to prevent me from retrieving old PageMaker disks long enough to save them as JPEGs and/or PDFs
    Although my telephone call yesterday to Apple support was escalated 3 times, I eventually was able to speak with a tech support rep. But according to him — "because 2002 MacBooks are now  obsolete," he has never been trained to solve problems on them. Click.

  • What has caused an app I purchased (Family Tree Maker for Mac) and currently have installed, to disappear from the Mac Store. Does this mean it is no longer sold?  If so, how will I get update notices or re-download if needed?

    I purchased and installed Family Tree Maker for Mac from the App Store about 6 months ago.  I heard that possibly a new version was coming, though I had not received any update notice.  I went to the App Store and it no longer shows the app, either as available for purchase or as an app I have previously purchased.  So I can't get any information on the app, support, etc..  How can an app I have purchased disappear from the purchased list???  How can I get update information or support links? (contacted FTM website and phone support and they said if I bought my program from App store, I have to get update information there).....the Update Info button in my program is actually greyed out!!  So the program I bought doesn't even have the normal update link!!  I thought one of the advantages of App Store purchase was being able to redownload the program in the unlikely event it was lost....ie: no need to worry about having the install CD.  So now I only have my installed, operating copy and no way to reinstall if it crashes due to corrupt data, etc.!!  Not a happy result from an App Store purchase!  And I must say the circular references in the support link are frustarting...apparently there is NO live support for the App Store itself!

    Thanks for THAT tip: iTunes acct. history DOES show my (few) Mac app purchases, buried in with my MANY iPhone and iPad apps!  So I CAN prove I bought it (7 months ago, not 6), but you wouldn't know it from the App Store app on my Mac!  But that does leave a few other ?'s hanging: like how could I download it again, or check for updates (as I said, the version installed has the "update" button greyed out!  Ancestry.com (who sells it online and support it for other buyers said update info for App Store purchasers comes through the App Store.
    I may just be out of luck with this because after 7 months of ownership, they (Ancestry) just replaced FTM with a new version (Family Tree Maker for Mac2) that is NOT an upgrade (though prior owners get $4.00 off on a $52.00 purchase!!).  I'll probably just plump for that....direct from Ancestry.com...and give up on the Mac App Store, because the new version reportedly has major enhancements in sync-ing your family history record between your computer and the cloud program available online.  Genealogy software, like everything else is migrating to the cloud, but one really does need a resident program on their device because you're often collecting data "in the field" in libraries, historical archives, cemeteries, etc. where you really can't get online in many cases.  Fortunately, more and more of the source data is coming online, so more and more can be done from home!

    Hi,
    (Umm, I was only away a few days - Community Specialists are supposed to wait a week)
    The Messages app is basically iChat with the iOS Messages app added on.
    This adds the iMessages features.  (essentially Apple's Own Messaging service like AIM or MSN but more like a system without a Buddy list)
    If you happened to have Migrated your User account from your old Computer you may find that the System Preferences > Mail, Contact and Calendars pane has picked up on both emails and Names and IDs used in iChat and they may be active for Messages.
    On first run Messages will tend to ask for an Apple ID to be "registered" with the iMessages service.
    Once you have done this it will open the Main Messages window (It has become a Tabbed Chat and Interface combined purpose window that is "always On" by default.
    As Braden has said you can add a Screen Name or Jabber ID  or a Yahoo ID.
    The Add Pane reduces the AIM Variants for MobileMe and @Mac.com to just AIM (add the Screen Name in Full) but retains the Google separation in Jabber.
    The next issue is that by default Buddy Lists are not on Show.
    Go to the Window Menu  and use the "Buddies" or "CMD + 1" keystrokes.
    This then is a combined window (Of all the Buddy List accounts such as Bonjour if enabled, Jabber/Google/Facebook or Yahoo or AIM (valid) ones.
    In the Preferences > General Section there is a line about "Gather All Accounts into one List"
    Unticking this will separate out the Buddy lists you have.
    To be clear.
    You will be asked for an Apple ID to "Register" for iMessages.
    Other Account have Buddy Lists
    By Default these appear in one List but can be separated.
    As you may know certain Apple IDs ending in @mac.com and those linked to iCloud using @me.com and @icloud.com ending are also Valid AIM Screen Names.
    If you use your Apple ID as your AIM Name then you will have to enter it as the Apple ID for iMessages and then in the Add Pane as the AIM name.
    Main Window  (Window Menu > Messages, CMD +0 )
    Has an icon that looks like a square box and pencil.
    This will add a "New Message" to the left.
    The blue icon that appears top right can be used to select Contact (for iMessages) or Buddies.
    Also Typing a Name in the "To" spot will bring up a list of Contacts and Buddies with indicators as to whether they are iMessages, AIM or Jabber or Yahoo potential connections.
    Chats (Buddy lists) or Conversations (iMessages contacts) remain AIM to AIM, Jabber to Jabber or iMessages to iMessages.
    If you have a Valid AIM Name you will have to add this to Messages to continue where you left off in iChat.

  • Programs that put icons on my desktop - they look like little hard drives

    I'm new to the iMac, so be patient with me please. I have installed Google Earth, Firefox and Thunderbird. Each of these software downloads have created an icon on my desktop that looks like a hard drive with their logo on top. These icons also appear in my Finder window with an eject button next to them. Why would I want to eject these? Doesn't eject refer to ejecting a CD or DVD?
    Also, how do I go about getting these program to appear in my Applications folder so that each person in my family, when they login, will have access to them?
    Thanks!

    If you double-click the hard drive icons (disk images that act like CDs or DVDs), they will open up revealing their contents, in this case, probably the application installer's .pkg files. If you really have installed the applications successfully, you can click on the eject buttons to "unmount" them. If they end up in the trash you can empty the Trash. However, if you haven't actually installed the applications (they aren't in the Mac OS X disk/Applications/ folder) but have only downloaded the installer packages (inside the disk images), then double-clicking the installer.pkg inside a disk image should start the installation process.

  • Creating a Family Tree

    Hello, I'm new to iWork and I'd like to create a tree, with at least just boxes and lines. How would I do this? Just use the rectangle and line tools, or is there an easier, more organized way? Or alternatively, should I just use another program entirely, and if so, what would you suggest? Thanks in advance.

    Sure, you could do it with text boxes, pictures & lines, but I think it would be so much easier to use a dedicated genealogy program. The best known for the Mac is Reunion, but it may be more than you're willing to spend. Try a search on MacUpdate or VersionTracker for genealogy for shareware choices. I know there are a couple - Family 1.0 & Family Tree come to mind.

    I am performing installations in a VMWare virtual machine, to get a smooth process down before installing in development and then production.
    Installed Content Server on Oracle Linux R5U2. Performed following steps:
    I checked libraries using

    I also installed libXp from the CD using rpm. I then used yum to install openmotif and openmotif22 (not sure if I really needed to?) cd ~/rpmbuild/RPMS/noarch/
    * Download and install the msttcorefonts and dependencies
    sudo rpm -ivh msttcorefonts-2.0-1.noarch.rpm
    * Then run the following code to restart the font server.
    sudo /sbin/service xfs reload
    Or
    sudo /etc/init.d/xfs reload
    I installed the DynamicConverter.zip using the wizard.
    I checked in three of the template/scripts:
    * /u01/app/ucm/server/custom/DynamicConverter/samples/gui_templates/Blank.ttp
    * /u01/app/ucm/server/custom/DynamicConverter/samples/gui_layouts/default_layout.txt
    * /u01/app/ucm/server/custom/DynamicConverter/samples/script_templates/basic.hcst
    I changed the font path to include the mstcorefonts and liberation. I left the path to the java directory in the ucm directory.
    In the configuration screen, I added all of the file types available, then by hand, typed in application/pdf to the end of the list.
    After uploading two PDF files, I performed a simple search, then performed the HTML view.
    **** They look like faxes ****
    Is there a way to make the html conversion look better?
    Is there anything else I missed?
    Do I really have to select the filetypes, and add my own for files that can get converted?
    Thanks, Ken

    I am performing installations in a VMWare virtual machine, to get a smooth process down before installing in development and then production.
    Installed Content Server on Oracle Linux R5U2. Performed following steps:
    I checked libraries using
    rpm -qa | grep -i compat-libstdc++
    I also installed libXp from the CD using rpm. I then used yum to install openmotif and openmotif22 (not sure if I really needed to?) Too get yum to work, I copied all of the rpms from the install disks to /opt/rpms, then used createrepo and added a local.repo entry to create a local repository for installation.
    I then installed mstcorefonts from source:
    *** Create an RPM Build Tree
    $ mkdir ~/rpms
    $ cd ~/rpms
    $ mkdir BUILD RPMS SOURCES SPECS SRPMS tmp
    $ cat > ~/.rpmmacros
    %_topdir /home/username/rpms
    %_tmppath /home/username/rpms/tmp
    Press [Ctrl]+[D]
    *** Get cabextract and install
    cd ~
    wget http://www.cabextract.org.uk/cabextract-1.2-1.i386.rpm
    sudo rpm -ivh cabextract-1.2-1.i386.rpm
    *** get spec file
    cd ~/rpms/SPEC
    wget http://corefonts.sourceforge.net/msttcorefonts-2.0-1.spec

  • What approach/tools for a collages scene (to blend it all in so as not to look like a collage)

    What photoshop approach/techniques/tools should I be looking into (e.g. watching tutorials) in order to create a collage scene?
    That is, a scene where I superimpose various pieces of images to create it.  Might be a general background (say a road), then superimposed trees from another image on the left, and a building on the right etc.  So the tips/tools re how to blend them in so as to not make it look like it is a collage (well as a much as possible anyway)...

    Matt Kloskowski's Compositing Secrets would be an ideal nbook for you. I beleive it was Amazon's Photoshop book of the month, or some such accolade, a while back.
    \http://kelbytraining.com/product/photoshop-compositing-secrets/
    Otherwise, the steps involved are Selection, Layers, and Masking.  Google up Photoshop Compositing tutorials
    Or a couple of general Photoshop tutorial sites wit hundreds of free videos:
    http://kelbytv.com/photoshopusertv/
    http://planetphotoshop.com/category/tutorials
    Also look at the Steve Caplin books, or the forum on his How to Cheat at Photoshop site.
    http://www.howtocheatinphotoshop.com/
    And finally try to learn about perspective, eyelines and horizons.  There are two free to view videos here:
    http://www.video2brain.com/en/courses/creating-perspective-in-photoshop
    And the final finally, learn about shadows and light direction.  I'd say two of the most important aspects of a believable composite are shadows and perspective.
