Just seeking confirmation

Windows XP Pro SP3, LR2.1RC
My workflow is to download (via cardreader) into a present folder, or alternatively, create a new folder using Windows Explorer. I then use the synchronise folder option to import the new images into LR at which stage I then delete from the computer images that are obviously of no use. Outside of LR I then use SnycBack to sync the folder containing the images (keepers) onto a second EHD. At this stage my primary images (also on EHD) are a match for the backup copies on the second EHD.
LR is installed on computers C partition whilst the catalogue and previews are located on the D partition. Catalogue backups are located on the same EHD as the primary images.
I don't make use of star ratings but do allocate colour labels to some images and have them in a collection e.g. red for geotagged images. I do make use of keywords. I also only have RAW files in my Library and do not use the write to XMP facility.
Ok, that's the setup. There might be better or more efficient ways but I'm happy with this setup and it works for me.
Question: am I correct in thinking that all data is kept in the catalogue file e.g. edits and the like and it is sufficient only to backup the catalogue in order to retain edits made to images, keywords, coloured labels etc etc? I know that I do not need to backup the Preview folder as LR will recreate this if needed but is there anything else that I should backup in case the xxxx hits the fan?

>Question: am I correct in thinking that all data is kept in the catalogue file e.g. edits and the like and it is sufficient only to backup the catalogue in order to retain edits made to images, keywords, coloured labels etc etc?
Yes, as long as you made a starting backup of your images. Be aware that you might have to backup any "edit in Photoshop" copies you made after the initial images backup.

  • IOS 8 voice dialing, "Just to confirm..."

What a huge step backward in the usability of my iPhone.  Instead of telling Siri, "call Mom mobile" and getting the response "calling Mom mobile" followed by the call going through, Siri now responds with, "Just to confirm, would you like to call Mom?".  It may not sound like much but that extra step plus the required response from me makes it slower to use voice dialing than to remove the phone from my pocket and dial the number.  Oh please let there be a way to switch this 'feature' off.

I ran into the same problem after upgrading to iOS 8 and it's REALLY annoying.
However, today I stumbled upon something that seems to have fixed the problem on the contacts that I've tried it on so far.
    Here's what I did:
    1) I changed the last digit of the contact's phone number (by adding 1) and then I saved the contact record
    2) I changed the last digit of the contact's phone number back to what it needs to be (by subtracting 1) and then I saved the contact record again
After I did this, I used Siri to call the contact and she called without the "Just to confirm..." prompt.  I had one or two contacts that this didn't work on right away so I had to repeat the process, but it eventually worked the second time around.
Again, I just stumbled upon this today so I'm not positive it's a permanent fix but it looks promising so far.

  • IOS8 downgrade caused Siri to now keep asking "just to confirm, you want to call" on every call request.  Anyone else having this annoying issue?

Ever since I made the mistake of moving to iOS 8 on my iPhone 5s, whenever I use Siri to place a phone call, I get "Just to confirm, you want to call <enter name>?"  It's driving me crazy!  I've resorted to disabling Siri and just using the native Voice Control, which works flawlessly for making phone calls, but not so well for other functions.  I tried wiping my phone and restoring from a backup, but no luck with that.  Apple doesn't seem to want to help since it's not a widely reported issue.  I've also noticed that incoming calls don't connect on my car's bluetooth, when that was never a problem.  Also, outgoing calls no longer make any sounds.  i never know if the call dropped, the phone bricked, or the call was answered unless the other person says something.  If only I could go back to iOS 7!!!

I, too, had been suffering through Siri's relentless need to confirm calls that recently she (heh!) just called.
Applecare support told me to backup and restore from that backup.  I balked at the need to spend so much time reloading my music and docs, and also asked what good would it do to replace the phone's data with a copy of what was there after the problems began.
"Good question." was the reply.  No answer, though.
I told her I had to go, hung up, turned Siri off and back on, and the problem disappeared.  It's been nearly 72 hours and all's well.
Of course, YMMV, but it's painless and worth a shot.
I hope it works for you, too.  And I hope Apple will better train their advisors to give more informed advice.
    Regards,
    Maurice

  • Just some confirmation

    Hi all,
I have had a read through pages and pages of posts and answers, all have been helpful.
I'm just looking to clarify my understanding of the situation I'm in.
Purchased a new iPod touch yesterday, have v1.1.2 on it, so upgraded to 1.1.4 through iTunes. All done happy days.
Please don't throw anything at me when I mention this, but the January update with all it's lovely extra functions and applications. At the time I was led to believe that I was just to pop onto iTunes, buy it, and sync away. However after reading the forums I see that there appears to be an issue with new owners and the January update.
Just to confirm, I have to stick with the standard build until they figure out the issue (likely to be in the July release) and THEN I can get my grubby paws on the good stuff.
If this is the case, I'm v surprised that there has been no official statement from Apple to this effect, if there has been I must have missed it, you know what it's like, get a new toy and the world ceases to exists for the few days it takes you to play around with it!
I appreciate any clarification you can offer.
    Cheers
    Steve

    Steve & Bottlerboi-
I'm very frustrated. I got my touch in early February for my birthday it's in mid-March). I had a generation 3 iPod, but loved the new ones and the new features. I was very disappointed to find out that 2 of the features I was looking forward in having I would have to pay to get. I was told at the Apple store to wait until the April update before I bought the January update, it maight be in it. It wasn't! So I tried to buy it anyway. You couldn't it would do nothing. So I went to the Apple store again, I really needed to maps fo our out of town trip we were taking. They said wait for the June update, it's only 1 week away!
So it's June... there were no features update and as have been I reading also. Wait for July, 2.0 should be out! Either make these updates available to everyone or STOP listing them as a feature. GRRRRRRRR! Sadly I was more happy with my G3 iPod than I am with my new one that almost has what I want on it.

  • Just to confirm: ARD 1.2.4 doesn't run in Tiger?

    Hi,
I could not find a definite answer, but it seems like ARD 1.2.4 will not run in Tiger. Is that correct? I just need a confirmation.
    Thanks, and happy holidays.

    PowerBook G4 Al 15   Mac OS X (10.4.3)

    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=301299 :
Mac OS X 10.4 Tiger requires Apple Remote Desktop v2.2
Apple Remote Desktop 1.2 is not supported in Mac OS X 10.4 "Tiger." If you install Apple Remote Desktop 1.2 on a computer running Tiger, you will find that it does not work properly. Tiger requires Apple Remote Desktop 2.2.
Updating to Apple Remote Desktop 2.2
    1. Install Apple Remote Desktop 2.x from the CD onto an admin computer, then restart it.
    2. If your version of Apple Remote Desktop is version 2.0, use Software Update to download and install the version 2.2 update.
    3. Use the admin computer to update clients.

  • Seeking confirmation - SQL Dev now in 11g RDBMS install

    Hi gang
Can somebody confirm the following for me please? I'd confirm this for myself but it requires me to download the 11g RDBMS tarball for Linux -- which could take me weeks on my current internet connection.
Is it correct that SQL Developer is now included in the 11g RDBMS install?
Is it the intention SQL Developer will be included in every edition of the RDBMS (eg. Standard, Enterprise and XE etc)?
Will SQL Developer be included for every RDBMS platform (eg. Linux, Windows etc)?
...and am I correct in saying that SQL Developer was not included in any earlier RDBMS release (eg. 10g)?
    Thanks for your help.
    Regards,
    CM.

That's great, except you say that 1.2 is included by default. It's 1.1.3 that's included. (i.e. just a release earlier.
Yes, the SQL Developer team will be at OOW in San Francisco. We have 2 papers and a hands-on session. I'm really pleased about the hands-on session. Even though it's only an hour long, we are offering users a choice or tasks to work on, so hoping to give everyone an chance to get their hands onto the product, from beginners doing an overview to those wanting to get into more on the PL/SQL debugging to those wanting build XML extensions.
We'll also have a demo stand where we're planning to show off some new stuff and of course meet all the forum readers and contributors.
    See you there.

  • Seeking confirmation that VPD checking whether roles are enabled won't work

    Hi,
Our VPD includes predicates based on roles being enabled or disabled for a given session. Before we seek alternatives to this approach, can someone confirm definitively that our approach won't work with HTMLDB. I'm 99.9 percent sure we'll need a change based on my testing and reading in this forum. We probably would move to a table based approach following the example discussed in the technical note "Using Virtual Private Database in an Oracle HTML DB Application".
Thanks to anyone who can confirm my understanding before we do the work! Appreciate it.
    Mike Sullivan

Mike - Correct, roles would not be enabled during the dynamic execution of code within your application, including the VPD code.

  • Automatic Settlement just after confirmation

    Dear Experts,
Please advice how the Process Order got automatically settle once the Process Order confirmation happened, if possible.
Because in variant of settlement CNF status of Process Order not exist.
    Please advice

    Sumit,
Why you want to do this? In standard condition system should settle all orders for which cost has Incurred during the period , so that the Settlement period and Posting period will be matching.
Please explain why you want to prevent PCNF orders from settling.

  • Same old silly questions, but just to confirm!

I have some idea of the answers to my questions but the more I read in the forum the more uncertain I've become...
    1. I can use the TC as an external hard drive, but what about the transfer speed? Is it similar to the speed of a USB hard drive? If it is slower, will I still be able to watch movies/listen to music files on the TC with my Macbook?
    2. Can I connect TC to a computer using an ethernet cable so I can use it as a wired hard drive?
    3. I can back up my computer using Time Machine, but to use TC as a hard drive as well, do I need to do something complex (for me), like 'partitioning' the TC or something?
    4. I already have a wireless router (and network, I think) and don't want to stop using it. Will TC interfere with anything? As in if I start using TC will Leopard try and make me set something up?
    5. Can I plug in the USB printer and use it as if it was directly plugged into my computer, including scanning functions? If I press the scan button on my printer, will the scanning software automatically load on my computer? Will any USB printer work? Is further set-up required?
Thanks for reading my questions. I just got a Macbook Air and I'm all new to the wireless world.

    1. Over a gigibit ethernet cabled connection, speed will be faster that that of a USB hard drive. For any other connection type (ie 100 Mbps ethernet, or 802.11a/b/g/n wireless, it will be slower.
    2. Yes you can connect TC to a computer using an ethernet cable.
    3. Currently available information is insufficient to answer this question.
    4. You can connect TC to an existing network without having to change anything about your current network setup or configuration.
    5. You can plug a USB printer into TC. If you connect a multifunction printer to TC, only its printer function will work and scanning/faxing will not. Not all USB printers work, and multifunction printer are among the more problematic to get even their print function working.

  • Seeking confirmation on Time Capsule setup

My  network consists of a Frontier DSL modem with a wired Ethernet connection to an AirPort Express  (LAN port on the DSL Modem, Ethernet cabled to WAN port on Express).  Wi-Fi from Express working good - No network problems whatsoever.
To that configuration I’ve added a Time Capsule, Ethernet connected to my Express (LAN on the Express to LAN port on the Time Capsule).  Setup with Time Capsule is with Wireless turned Off, and Network Off (Bridge Mode).  I choose to use the TC only for Time Machine backups.
    My confirmation questions are:
    1. I can only get the TC to work by using one of its LAN ports for the Ethernet connection. If I try connecting using the TC WAN port, Time Machine can’t    find it.  And Airport Utility yellow flags the TC, i.e., no longer available.  Is this normal?  Using the LAN port?
    2.  My second question has to do with backup speed.  My first (full) backup of a MBPro took a little less than 2 hours, 32.8 GB’s total.  Then again, the first backup of a MBAir (26.4GB’s) took about 1 ½ hours. Are those times fast, or slow?  I really have nothing to compare it to.
I ask only because I’ve read countless posts here about how slow backups will be with a TC configured such as mine.

    1. I can only get the TC to work by using one of its LAN ports for the Ethernet connection. If I try connecting using the TC WAN port, Time Machine can’t    find it.  And Airport Utility yellow flags the TC, i.e., no longer available.  Is this normal?
Not normal, and sounds like the WAN port is not working correctly. When the TC is in Bridge Mode, all ports behave the same....as LAN ports....so it really does not matter which port you use on the TC in this type of setup.
You do not indicate whether you are backing up using wireless, or using a direct Ethernet connection for the MacBook Pro, but I assume that you are talking about wireless here, correct?
I also assume that you are backing up using wireless on the MacBook Air, although it is certainly possible to connect directly using an USB to Ethernet adapter or Thunderbolt to USB adapter with the MacBook Air.
Using a direct, wired Ethernet cable connection for backups, I normally see about 50-60 GB of data transferred per hour.
In general, wireless will be 3-4 times slower, on average, than a direct connection so the times that you are reporting seem to be in the normal range.

  • Just to confirm...

Hi everyone, I've just bought a lovely 24 inch iMac! I'm new to Mac having just swapped from Windows and I am loving it! But there is one thing I am confused about and that is installing software downloaded from the internet. I wanted to download Firefox and I am using it now, I have an icon in the dock but also an icon underneath the Macintosh HD logo. So is Firefox installed or not? Since if I eject firefox it will be removed from my computer and so is that uninstalling the program? Thanks a lot for your help!

For clarity and posterity sake: placing something into the dock works pretty much the same as dragging an application icon into the application bar in Linux or Windows. It effectively creates an alias (shortcut) to the application in the bar.
On a Mac, most applications don't require installation, per se. However, when things look for an application, they are going to look in the /Applications folder.
Specifically, to "install" FireFox, you simply drag the application into the /Applications folder. However, you could also keep it on your desktop (/Users/username/Desktop) or Downloads directory and run it from there and it will work to.
It's important to note that under Mac OS X, an "application" is actually a folder/directory with application-related items in it, including an XML file that describes the application, application binaries, shared libraries/frameworks, images, language translations, etc.

  • Just to confirm, will a hard reset...

I want to sell my old phone on ebay.  Will doing a hard reset totally clean the phone out so that the next user will not be able to access any of my info?

    Hello tlhamon!
Just to add to what vereyezuhn already answered, a hard reset will remove all of your data applications and settings that are stored on the device memory, however, it will not erase any data from your removable SD card.  If you are keeping your SD memory card just ensure you remove the card before shipping your device.  Otherwise, if you are selling the SD card with the device I would suggest formatting the card prior to shipping to ensure none of your data is left on your card.  Just make sure you backup your card data prior to formatting, since formatting will erase all of the data.
I trust we have answered your questions and have addressed your concerns.

  • Just to confirm this feature in number range object

    Hi all,
I've created one number range between 00001 to 99999. And i hope it will start over again automatically from 00001 after hit the upper limit.
I did not choose the "No Interval Rolling". Is that all i have to do?
    thanks.

    Hello,
    I think this is correct.
From the F1 help from the field you can see:
    Flag: No rolling of intervals
Selecting the flag prevents the number range object intervals from automatically starting from the beginning at the upper limit.
    Regards,
    David
