K7N2 Delta....please help

OK, let me start by saying that I know just enough to be dangerous (and really get things screwed up).  With that said, My computer was running great and then I had the chance to upgrade my processor and RAM so I did.  Since doing so I've run into a little snag, most of the time, about every 60 seconds it just freezes up for anywhere from 3 to 10 sec.
Does anyone have any ideas?  Here's my setup:
K7N2 Delta ILSR (MS-6570)  I just changed the Bios to version 7.80
Athlon XP 3200+ running @ 2.20 Ghz (temp is 40-45 C)
(3) 512MB Geil DDR400 PC3200 6-3-3-2 (dual channel mode)
NVIDIA Geforce4 Ti 4200 (w/ dual 19" samsung SyncMaster 191T one DVI one AGP)
Dual 80 gig SATA hard drives
SCSI card w/ benchmark tape back up
liteon CD Burner
Toshiba DVD ROM
1394 net adapter
D bracket
S bracket
3.5" floppy
Creative speakers SBS2.1
Generic case w/ plenty of fans & 450W power supply
XP pro SP2
Other settings:
AGP clock @ defalt setting of 66
AGP voltage 1.5
DRAM voltage 2.7
Vcore-1.64v
+3.3v - 3.23
+5v - 5.10
+12v - 11.85
-12v - -12.69
-5v - -5.20
Items that where changed:
I went from a XP3000+ (333FSB) to the 3200+ (400FSB)
added a stick of RAM
installed SP2
and in an effort to fix the problem updated the bios
I know this board is ram sensitive - so is the added ram the problem?
Is SP2 the problem?
Or is it the 3200+?
Please help.

Hello,
What is the model of the memory modules?
Geil PC3200 Value ram Blue heat spreaders?
The timings for that are 2.5-3-3-6 not 2-3-3-6 (assuming you got the value series)
Are you running the memory in SPD mode?
You may also want to test each module with this program.
http://www.memtest.org/download/1.40/memtest86+-1.40.floppy.zip
It will create a bootdisk that cannot be read in windows.
You must then boot from the disk with only 1 module in the PC.
If you get any errors then it is a faulty memory module, test all the modules.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR Help Please.

    Hi all
I have a MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR motherboard that im putting together and I have a question.
In the middle of the socket where the CPU sits is a small CPU thermal protection sensor, my question is that the sensor is higher than the socket and will be touching the CPU when it is inserted is this normal or should sensor be bent downward so not to be in direct contact with the CPU?
I would not be asking this question if not for someone telling me not to put any external case sensor on the CPU direct only on the heat sink but in this case its built into the motherboard itself. Best to be safe than sorry I thought.
    Many thanks

    Hi Andy
I too have just bought an MSI K7N2-ILSR. On mine the sensor is bent down so as not to contact the cpu. Was like this when I bought it so I would suggest that it is not supposed to touch processor

It looks like a great board and i see some great reviews but also see alot of small issue with compadability. It looks like the 1st thing is to upgrade the bios, and hope i don't have any issue with my cable modem box (guess i could put my old network card back in and disable the mobo's built in net work if there is problems).
I don't do O\C so nothing to worry about there. My old board is an Epox and is max'd out with no future upgrade room, so that's why i'd like to upgrade.
    Thanks for any help guys.

    rider45,
If you do not need the Break Out Box from the Platinum, I would go with the onboard nVidia SoundStorm. It sounds better than the old Live! and uses less CPU Cycles.

  • 6800 GT on a K7N2 Delta-L HELP!!!

Hi, does anyone have any problems installing a 6800 GT on a K7N2 Delta-L?
I just got my BFG 6800 GT today, and it simply doesn't work. The LEDs are on and the fan is spinning but it just doesn't output any video signals to any of my monitors.
I asked BFG and they think it could be a BIOS issue, but I already have the latest 5.8 BIOS. I pretty much ruled out power as an issue, because I use an Antec 550W and I originally used a 5950 Ultra which probably consumes about the same amount of power as the GT.
Does anyone have similar issues? Suggestions?
    Thanks.
I will try it out on another computer to see if it might be a dead card.

I tried the card out on two computers.
It worked on an ASUS nForce2 but it didn't work on Gigabyte i865PE.
I guess it could be board issue, I hope MSI can provide me a BIOS solution.
Otherwise I might have to go ahead with my K8 upgrade plan earlier than I expected.

  • K7N2-L Please help!

    Hi everybody!
I've read those threads about PSUs and Memory compatibility issues, but I'm not sure if my problem fits one of those matters.
I've just bought the following stuff: a K7N2-L, an Athlon XP 2500+ (barton), 512 Mb DDR 400 (the label says 32X8, while ships mention Samsung 325 k4h560838e-tccc) and a gainward GF4ti4800se.
The problem is: whenever I turn my PC on, it turns off (exactly: it doesnt hang or freeze) after a while, depending on FSB or DRAM clock settings (I'm trying to use 166 on both of them). And to restart it, I have to turn my stabilizer off and on again, with no need to press my power button.
Please, can anyone help me out or give me a clue? Thanx in advance!
    Marcos.
PS1: If I set FSB and DRAM to 133, using the highest speed available for memory timing (15-7-7) and CL (3.0), It gets almost stable (just turning off while trying to load nvidia video drivers, sometimes).
PS2: I'm not using AGP 8x or fast write support, for awhile, since I dont know what I'm dealing with.

run http://www.memtest.org to detect memory problems.
even if it passes there can be a problem.

why a realtek nic card ?
doesnt onboard work or do you need 2 ?
    5.
a problem with installing xp when w98 works can be both memory and psu related as xp puts much more pressure than 98 does.
also this board does not support 98.
    only 98se and that barely.

  • MSI K7N2 Delta ISLR help :(

Ive had my current setup for about 5 months now, everything up untill now has run smooth. Yesterday when i woke up i heard my computer makeing this loud noise. when i finaly made it over to the computer i found out that one of my hard drives was spinning super fast and and vibrating in addition to clicking. I then proceded to check all my connections and made sure everything was physicly fine. Once that was done i rebooted my system and got a "array not found" error from the RAID. So i thought what ever, ill just send it back to western digital ( see sig for comp specs)
Today i went to best buy to pick up a western digital 80 gig hard drive to use for the time being. When i get home i pop it in the computer, blah blah blah, wont work, reconnect everything and it went into the windows install. more problems with the computer not detecting my hard drive but i end up fixing it. so finaly i get windows to isntall and i boot up and evertything into windows. install the nforce drivers and reboot and that is the last time my computer has run "normaly"
Now, when i go to boot my computer it takes a good 5 mins to get out of that 8x agp graphic screen from when you first power up, and after that its another minute or so before i get an error saying that there is no system disk.
Prior to all of this nothing crazy was done to the computer, no over clocking or new hardware. everything has been the same for about 2 months.
I might have left a few details out, so please ask for clarification if need be.

Sounds to me like your HD took a dive initially...how that happened is what you're after here...was it just the HD? Was it the controller? Was it a power surge into the system from the PSU caused by the AC in the house/apartment? Basically I sent you to the troubleshooting guide because that's what you're going to need to do to get to the bottom of the issue that you're having...that could entail changing your MB out completely with one of the same model, stripping the system to it's bare minimum, replacing the PSU with (hopefully) something bigger than 300W (these motherboards seem to be power hungry for more than even most generic 350W supplies can provide)...read about PSU's in that guide and what minimum requirements are these days for systems...
Really it comes down to how many components are in your system and how long your underwattage/current PSU can hold out against the strain that you put on it...in my experiences more power is never bad and have an over powered system is far better than cutting it close or being underpowered...this is what I feel you've done to your rig is underpowered it...

  • MSI K7N2 Delta-ILSR MB Problems, Need Help ASAP!! PLEASE

Ok  I just got this motherboard (MSI K7N2 Delta) Yesterday and after getting it setup I began overclocking the Processor (an AMD Athlon XP Barton Mobile 2500+) I was at 11x 215 1.750V Perfectly. I moved to 216 it started to seem unstable so I pushed the VCORE up to 1.775 and tried 217. It couldn't boot so I dropped it back down and decided ok 208 and a 11.5 multi might get me past the 2.4 mark which I was looking for. Well when I changed the Multi. to 11.5 and said save the system just sate as the flashing y for save. I could not change it to n I had already pushed enter So i firgured great and left it alone for a few minutes, nothing so I reset it. Now it refuses to boot/post. It spinds the fans the HD's the Network port is going but I get no picture. I have cleared the CMOS using the jumper I have removed the battery and power for over an hour and I still get nothing. I am assuming this is a BIOS error but I am not sure what to do to fix it. Does anyone here kno maybe, something I have yet to try something I can do? I would hate to RMA it and have to wait on newegg. Hell the thing is a day old. So please any idea's are welcome I have this posted on the Hard Forums as well but I am hopinh this forum may be more popular with getting help as no one is helping over there. Thanks!

    Hi,
Cross: Just in case you are doing something wrong there's a clear CMOS guide here, follow it to the letter (and don't forget to put the FSB jumper to SAFE beforehand - there's a note about it in the guide).
    How To Clear the CMOS
Your system board or CPU maybe not be dead yet - I had a similar problem with one of my boards and I tried everything - to cut a long story short I eventually got it working!!!
Btw, If you can't boot or get into the BIOS put your other CPU in (clear BIOS again after fitting!), so that you can prove whether your motherboard is working correctly!
Good luck!   I'm off ta bed!

"...the other memory ive been using is  memorymaxx 512mb ddr 3200..." If I understood right, your'e actually using both memories at same time so, your'e lucky if it works. We have said thousand times that mixing dif. brand/make/speed memories is a bad idea, most with this Mobo that is very picky about ram. If you want to avoid slowdown problems, stay with only one stick ( the better one ) until you can buy at same time in same store, 2 identical memories to replace the old one.

  • Please, Help!... K7n2 Delta L And Temp...

well, i´ve a K7N2 DELTA L and noticed that the processor temp., since it began to work, two days ago, is around 47 ~ 51°C in idle mode.... and when i play any game, just like Call of Duty, or RTCW Enemy Territory, it stays around 56 ~ 62°C... is it okay or too hot... I see it in PC ALERT 4....
    Please, help!

I get the exact same temperatures, 60'C max load though. I don't see it as a problem since I live in Greece and right now the temperature outside is a good 40'C ! During the winter the temps (cpu, case and outside ) drop a lot (don't know how much since I only built my system about a month ago).
For me, under these circumstances, the best cooling option if I want to further drop my temps, is turn on the airconditioner in my room !

  • Problem with K7N2 Delta-ILSR, please help

First off, these are the specs for the computer to which I shall be referring in this post:
    K7N2 Delta-ILSR
    AMD 2700+
    1x512MB PC3200 Memory Corsair CM64SD512
    Seagate Barracuda 80GB 7200RPM SATA ST380013AS
    ATI 9600 Pro
    400 Watt power supply
    Cendyne 52x cd burner
Here's what happened.  I installed everything with only minor difficulties, mostly due to getting the hard drive to work.  They were worked through with little problem due, in large part, to this forum.  I installed Windows XP, and we ran a number of things with no problem after the OS installation.  The drivers for the video card loaded well.  3DMark2003 ran beautifully.  After I got that working, I went to put my friend's old hard drive in as a slave, so he could get the files off of it.  This seemed to work well enough.  Then we went to load the drivers for the motherboard.  When it got to the audio driver, we got the old "blue screen".  Then the computer reset and tried booting 98 from the old hard drive.  We shut down and disconnected the old hard drive.  Then we restarted to find that after the second screen XP would not begin to boot.  After some playing around we decided it best to reinstall, because with no combination could we get the OS to boot up.  So we reinstalled, with a full format.  This time, the first thing I went for was the motherboard drivers.  It stopped at the audio driver, again, and gave us the old "blue screen", again.  This time, instead of stopping the boot after the second screen, it came up with this message
Windows could not start because the following file is missing or corrupt:
    \system32\hal.dll.
Please re-install a copy of the above file.
Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated before we decide what to do next.  Please let me know if any more information is required.  None of the bios settings have been altered, save to boot from the CD.
    Thank you,
    M.Cordier

    i would test ram
    http://www.memtest86.com
and go to drive makers site and get their testing utility
other possibility is a crap psu like them qtecs

  • Please help - K7N2 delta-L upgrade compatibility?

    Hello there,
Having perused the forms for a while in research I know my appeal will not fall on deaf ears. I'm about to buy a new mobo, CPU, vid card and RAM and would be eternally grateful for an OK as regards memory issues etc.
    I'd like:
    MSI K7N2- Delta L
    Duron 1.6 GHz
    Geforce4 MMX 400 64MB
    256 Crucial PC3200
But I've heard the mobo is picky about both the memory and Duron CPUs. Would getting the latest driver solve the CPU problem and would this RAM work? I'm a newbie but would like to get into overclocking eventually. With this in mind, what should I look for in RAM? CL? I will drop in an XP 2500+ eventually and another stick of RAM for the dual channel goodness!
    Many thanks.

I get the exact same temperatures, 60'C max load though. I don't see it as a problem since I live in Greece and right now the temperature outside is a good 40'C ! • K7N2 Delta Help please

    Ok
    Using XP-Pro
    Nivida 5600fx 128mb
1 gb of DDR 3200 ram 2 x 512mb sticks in dual DDR mode
the ram i am using is on the list at nivida for the nforce chip set
    Fully updated.
My problems started when I went to install XP-Pro kept coming up with the blue screen of death. So i went through every component on the board i fianly changed one of the DDR sticks and hey presto XP-Pro installed.
I went to DL 1.6 patch for Battlefield1942 and half way though the same thing happens. Blue screen of death and goes on about shutting down as to prevent damage to my hardware something about no plus or minus and thatits a driver issue.
Considering XP-Pro is fully updated as are all my current drivers. Also the error/system crash does not record in windows error reporting.
I have spent several days trying to find exactly what is causing the error. Needless to say i,am about ready to go
I have never had any problems like this before and i build systems on a regular basis.
Can someone please help me before I end up tearing the board out and using it as a clay pigeon
    Thx Kam

    Ok
    Defo not my power supply
    Defo no overheating anywhere.
Have modded case that monitors power usage and temp and there all OK.
I will double check BIOS and change the FSB/DDR ratio to 1.1.
What confuses me is that it works fine until you bring down big download BSOD.
Villa Supporter in London well theres a first time for everything
Anyway back to the post subject.
I will get the exact error message and post it in here later as i am on my other PC.
Thought it better to come of that one whilst i calmed down
Will post exact error message later (will include full specs of system as well)
    Thx Kam

  • K7n2 Delta RAID Setup ----PLEASE HELP

Can someone explain how a RAID - Striping should be setup on this MOBO?  I can not get the board to see the 2nd drive. I have duplicate Maxtor 40gb drives and it will only see one of the drives. I am using IDE3 for one of the drives and then putting the other drive on IDE1. The manual states that you can only have 1 HD on IDE3 thus the reason for setting it up this way.  I have also tried the 2 maxtor drives on IDE1 with another drive on IDE3 (dummy RAID) hoping that this config would work as well, but it did not!
    Please help!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Thanks in advance for any and all replies.

It does support RAID. I have been able to go into the Fastrack utility and setup a RAID consisting of one drive. The manual also states that all IDE slots support RAID. It has the promise 376 chip.
