Kaspersky detected Trojan in python package

Hello,
i runed an Virustest today because i got some Issues with the  webcam (It got enabled when i plugged in the AC-Adaptor of my Notebook until i started Cheese).
After all Kaspersky deteced an Trojan ArcBomb in the "/usr/lib/python2.7/test/testbz2_bigmem.bz2" archive and espacially in the Pacman cached File "python2-2.7.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar.xz//python2-2.7.4-1-x86_64.pkg.tar" Maybe it is a fail detection or not.
Best regards

How exactly did you test for malware?  I'm not too sure myself, but it looks like the archive in question is tied to a python script in the python2 package used to perform memory tests, using blocks of "empty" data of varying sizes.  If that's the case, then it might function similarly to an arcbomb, but technically wouldn't be one.  From what I've seen, it's a legitimate part of the python2 package, but I'm no expert.

Guide me in making a perfect PKGBUILD.

What I do is get the sources and MD5s in the PKGBUILD, then makepkg -o.  I'll manually compile the sources but not install them, and when I have a few one-liners that make the magic happen, I put it into the build() section.  Then I'll rm -rf the $srcdir and actually try it with package { true; } as the package() function.  If that works, I'll try some install lines (instead of true) and run find against the $pkgdir.  If it all looks good, I'll make sure my dependencies are in check and pack it up.

  • HELP McAfee Detected Trojan in Verizon IHA

    Ok here goes my story.
I went to use Verizon's IHA (In Home Assistant) the other day when I got a new printer.
When I launched the IHA I received a message that there was a critical security update needed for the IHA.
I said yes of course to the update, boy oh boy was that a mistake.
When I went to launch it after updating the only thing that would happen is:
1 - It shows the screen shot of the IHA program loading
2 - disappears as fast as it appears
Gerrrrrrr....I had a lot of things to do and decided that I would fiddle with IHA and the printer later when I have time.
Fast forward to today, I logged on to check something real quick before I had to run back out.
Figured I would check and see if IHA would launch. Nope same thing it was doing before. GERRRRRR!
Then, McAfee while doing it's realtime or quick scan popped up with this:
McAfee Detected Trojan in Verizon IHA - Artemis!6C5EA6C50022
    Now McAfee has quarantined it.
Now you will see another Artemis quarantine above the IHA one in the picture, that was from a SD card which came out of a droid and has long ago been rectified.
I like being able to use the IHA to troubleshoot my STB's etc, but right now it's not an option at all.
Obviously because McAfee has quarantined it & I'm not sure I want to free it!
So, what can be done about this situation?
    Can/should I uninstall/reinstall it?
    Is there a non-trojan version?
I'm so frustrated with Verizon, like what did you add to the IHA that McAfee detects it as a Trojan? GEERRRR!
More frustrating is that I actually use the Verizon Security Suite, thought it was an ok price & I didn't have to worry about when it needed to be relicensed!
Ha, maybe I'll go back to purchasing my own security software, where I can have the control I've come accustomed to using. Set my own rules and regs and not worry about such **bleep**. Not to mention it would probably be cheaper in the long run. Maybe I'll go back to Cox Cable where their security suite is free, built into the price no doubt, but the customer does not see it!
Now add to this story, I have a Degree in Computer & Networking and this is so not cool Verizon, I'm seriously PO'd.
Sorry, but I needed to vent off some steam.
So I'm taking responses as to what & where to go next, Thanks in advance!

Ok here is my Latest Update.
I used the McAfee GetSusp product which was finally able to upload the suspicious Verizon IHA File(s). The files are of "Unknown Type" So, the files will be forwarded for further analysis. I will post back when they get back to me.

  • Reporting python package bugs

I just took the plunge and added [testing], [community-testing] and [multilib-testing] to pacman and updated 102 packages, including, of course, the Big Python Move of 2010. Nothing is broken (yet) except for calibre, or actually, python-cssutils-beta found in AUR. For AUR files that break with /usr/bin/python calls, should it just be reported on the AUR page?

Yes, report to the AUR page to its maintainer. Submit a patch if you can (sometimes its as easy as grepping for /usr/bin/env python or /usr/bin/python and changing to python2, or calling the .py scripts with python2 explicitly).

  • Most scientific python packages broken

I even tried reinstalling them, but the packages always install in the python2.5 directory . Is a recompilation needed in the repositories?

    Profjim wrote:
What do you mean, make it use python2.5? It only gets loaded by an already-running Python interpreter, there's no way that numpy can change the version of the interpreter that's loading it.
What you can control is: (1) keep a copy of python2.5 on your machine, and (2) install numpy in the /usr/lib/python2.5/site-packages folder. (2) is easy: just tweak the numpy PKGBUILD to make sure that the python interpreter that's doing the install is itself 2.5. (1) is of course doable but I think will be more work---that is, if you also want to upgrade to python2.6. You're going to have to rewrite the python PKGBUILDs to enable you to have different versions side-by-side. Or, you could just let pacman upgrade to python2.6, and install python2.5 from source in /usr/local/bin (without using pacman).
When someone has gotten (debugged) PKGBUILD tweaks that install different versions of Python beside each other, please share the love.
Numpy is already installed in python2.5/site-packages, but when I try to import it in ipython, I get the error
ImportError: libpython2.5.so.1.0: cannot open shared object file: No such file or directory
And since there is no python2.5 in the repos, only 2.4, I guess I will have to install that.

Double-click on the issue to see the list of DCOM components that are affected. You'll need to deploy the application to a client and verify the functionality.

  • Old packages which should be removed with the new python package?

I recently pacman -Syu'ed and got all the new updates Arch has to offer. In doing this, quodlibet wouldn't work anymore. Doing my own investigation, it apparently looks for libs in /usr/lib/python-2.4 before /usr/lib/python-2.5 come to find out a bunch of old packages still use /usr/lib/python-2.4 and therefore the folder sticks around and quodlibet complains it cant find what it needs in /usr/lib/python-2.4 when it is in fact in /usr/lib/python-2.5
I then proceeded to pacman -Qo /usr/lib/python-2.4 and remove packages until i could successfully delete the folder with no packages owning it. I would then assume, that the packages I had to remove need to be rebuilt with the new python. If someone can confirm my logic here, I'll post a bug report and  hopefully this clears up some of the python migration issues that seem to be cropping up.

  • Trojan Programme Detected?

    Hello, Macbook users!
I use Macbook Pro and I recently received a warning from Kaspersky that my mac is infected with Trojan virus.
My school re-imaged my MacBook on Thursday 22 August 2013 and Kaspersky detected "Trojan.Win32.Hosts2.Gen" in File / Private / etc / hosts on Friday 23 August 2013. (It's so weired! I NEVER torrent!)
However, I saw a post on Kaspersky discussion forum and some of the users aruge that they might have received false warning. So, I'm just wondering if this was just a false warning or real one. But I guess my Mac is really infected with Trojan virus since I am running few anti virus programmes at the same time and all of them give me warnings about virus / infected files. I disinfected the detected files but I'm still concerend.
I did some research about Trojan virus and I am so worried now.
    So what I know is:
    1. Trojan programme is a very dangerous virus programme.
    2. Hackers can hack through my computer if my computer is infected with Trojan virus.
    3. Recent Trojan programmes are so smart they hide themselves and even Terminal cannot detect them.
I'm so concerned right now I can't do anything
    So my questions are:
    1. How do I completely get rid of Trojan virus? I'm scanning my Mac with Kaspersky, Magician, Sophos and Dr. Web Light now and they give me different results so I am kind of skeptical about using Anti-virus programme.
    2. Is there any possibility that I got Trojan because of re-imaging? Would it be better if I ask the school to re-image my computer again?
    3. Can re-imaging get rid of Trojan virus?
    4. If the answer to question 2 is no, how did I get Trojan virus?
    5. What do the Trojan remains do? Is there any possibility that remains do any harm to my computer?
    6. How do I view hidden Trojan files?
    7. Could it be a false warning?
I'm so confused and frustrated right now. I never had virus before and I thought Mac don't get virus. I'm really concerned that I might lose all my files and documents. I asked around a bit but I still don't know what to do. Please, please, please help me!
    Thanks in advance!

  • Trojan reported in Bo Edge downloaded packages  --HELP--

    Hello,
I don't know if the problem has to do with the Antivirus or with the downloaded FILES but here is it :
I downloaded the trial packgages of BO EDGES 3 and just for testing purpose i ran the antivus on them
    then
the trojan : TR / CRYPT.CFI.GEN was detected
in the compressed files : ressource.cab
Later on I started the install on a test box with the package
    the files:
    boresen.dll
    reporten.dll
was reported to contain the same trojan and the installation can not continue
I'm not a specialist of trojan but these things are not spreading in files: either something is wrong with the AV detection algorithm
or these files contains the same signature than the trojan!
    has anybody found this problem?
I need to advise a customer and thought that my experience on XI and his needs of a mid market soluton would make EDGE a good solution but not wih trojan.
The idea that the trojan comes from my computer is inconsistent : I downloaded the new files from a different company (network) and guess what same issue   :
    ANtiVIR: AVIRA professional
    OS (XP, 2003)
    Can somebody help me PLZ?

It's a false/positive, there are no trojans in our packages.

  • [Solved] Python: Creating AUR package, binary can't find python module

I'm building a PKGBUILD for PyLotRO for the AUR and I'm using a Debian package.  I tried just copying the content of the data.tar.gz to the filesystem assuming the directory structure is the same for the packages but apparently it is not.  At least I'm figuring this is a filesystem problem but I don't know enough about python to be sure.  When I start the program, this is what I'm getting:
    pylotro
    Traceback (most recent call last):
    File "/usr/bin/pylotro", line 31, in <module>
    import PyLotROLauncher.Runner
    ImportError: No module named PyLotROLauncher.Runner
I can see the file in the package that (I would think) would be the responsible module:
    /usr/share/pyshared/PyLotROLauncher/Runner.py
So I'm thinking the python package must store modules in a different location?????
The package requires: 4suite, python, and pyqt.  Any thoughts about what do I need to do here??

Nezmer wrote:Did you try putting stuff in /usr/lib/python2.6/site-packages/ ?
Yes, 'site-packages' is the correct place.  Thank you Nezmer.

why you are using debian package rather that the source?
    http://www.lotrolinux.com/PyLotRO-0.1.11.tar.bz2
    cd $srcdir/PyLotRO-$pkgver
    python setup.py install --root=$pkgdir || return 1
    should be enough
Ah, beautiful.  Wasn't aware before that python install script could define a destdir.  Much better way of doing it.  Thanks wonder.

  • [solved] Building with JHBuild needs the Python libxml2 package

Hi all, I'm attempting to build GNOME Music with JHBuild. It's failing with an error about needing the Python package for libxml2 while building itstool.
You can find my jhbuildrc here. Here's the log:
    *** Checking out itstool *** [2/64]

I've tried installing python2-lxml - no luck. I've also tried
    sudo pip2 install lxml
again with no luck. Is there some environment variable that I need to be setting?
I've searched the BBS, I've Googled, and I've looked at the GNOME Wiki.
    jhbuild sanitycheck
returns 0 with no output. I tried
    jhbuild bootstrap
too - that said it built one thing (didn't say what), but did nothing to fix my problem.
    Any ideas?
