KDE 3.5 Screensaver Issue

In KDE 3.5, I can't seem to get the kde screensavers to work. Kcontrol lets me test all of the screensavers, and the 'tests' each work, but after I apply my settings the screensavers fail to activate themselves after the set idle period. I can lock my screen using one of KDE's Kicker Applets, and that works just fine and brings up the screensaver I previously selected in kcontrol.. but they won't turn on by themselves.
Is this a known bug, or did I mess something up?
Thanks in advance

Yes, I've been there as well... annoying, isn't it?
My solution:
su -c "pacman -R xcreensaver"
Then delete any .kssrc from /home/your_user/.kde/share/config
Why xscreensaver hoses the KDE one, I really don't know...

  • Kf5 and kde 4.13 cohabitation : issue launching dolphin

After installing the new (kf5) package group from [extra], I went back to my usual openbox desktop. When trying to launch dolphin (kde 4.13 version from [extra]) I got this :
    % dolphin
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceAdded(QString)
    Object::connect: No such signal org::freedesktop::UPower::DeviceRemoved(QString)
No dolphin windows appears and the program does not exit until CTRL-C.
Since kf5 relies on recent dependencies and the problem was looking related to upower, I did update upower to
    aur/upower-git-systemd
and dolphin is now running fine.
The two previous "No such signal" lines are still there, though.

Until recently veromix worked fine but now it doesn't. I think this is the problem:
    File "/usr/share/apps/plasma_scriptengine_python/pyappletscript.py", line 22, in <module>
    from PyKDE4.plasma import Plasma
RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v11.0 but the PyKDE4.plasma module requires API v10.1
According to their changelog they changed it for their sip v4.15.5 release http://www.riverbankcomputing.com/stati … /ChangeLog
Downgrading sip, python2-sip and python-sip to [extra] brings this:
    File "/usr/share/apps/plasma_scriptengine_python/pyappletscript.py", line 20, in <module>
    from PyQt4.QtCore import *
RuntimeError: the sip module implements API v10.0 to v10.1 but the PyQt4.QtCore module requires API v11.0
so I guess PyKDE is just lagging behind and everyone else is already using the new thing?
edit: Maybe they made a mistake with their release tarball? I have not tested it, but I got the PKGBUILD from here: https://projects.archlinux.org/svntogit … e/PKGBUILD and made it build from the kde 4.13 branch of their git repository and it works: http://pastebin.com/raw.php?i=rdjEJ9tU
    Well, except for
    Error connecting to veromix-service:
    org.freedesktop.DBus.Error.Spawn.ChildExited: Process org.veromix.pulseaudio.qt exited with status 1
But maybe that solves itself after the next kde restart.
    edit2: It didn't.
For some reason it doesn't launch some dbus service foobar.
    python2 /usr/share/apps/plasma/plasmoids/veromix-plasmoid/dbus-service/veromix-service-qt.py
    Then it works.
Also, in the last kde update the former issue with pykde got solved I think.

  • Screensaver issue with dual monitors

My screensaver has recently started acting up. It's sort of a minor blip, but it worked before and now it won't. Here's the issue: I have dual monitors (Intel imac, running Leopard, with a Viewsonic 20" lcd running in extended desktop mode). I use a "smart" album from iphoto as a screensaver (iphoto 08, v7.1.5). I've been using this particular smart album for several months as my screensaver and it's worked fine. How it used to work: when the screensaver activates (either by time or by hot corner) both screens would draw photos from this album and randomly scroll, zoom, and fade them across each monitor, independently but simultaneously. It's worked like this flawlessly for years, with several different iphoto albums. Now, I just noticed that the second monitor does not find the pictures. A message on screen "looking for pictures" appears on both monitors, as normal, but instead of both monitors going to screensaver, only the imac starts, and the message "looking for pictures" stays on the other. What's weird is that if I run the screensaver in test mode, it works like it used to (both screens work independently and simultaneously). And if I switch to one of Apple's supplied screensavers, both screens work as well. But any iphoto album no longer works properly. I don't understand what has changed. I just recently ran an upgrade (Software Upgrade, a week or so ago) but it seems like it worked normally since then, and I don't believe the upgrade was a major one or had anything to do with iphoto. I just noticed this problem today. I've tried restarting the machine. Same issue. Any ideas what could be causing this minor, yet annoying, glitch.

I had this same problem arise after installing an iPhoto update in late January. I contacted AppleCare and the problem was escalated to a Product Specialist. The Product Specialist contacted Apple Engineering and Engineering 1) replicated the problem and 2) confirmed that it's a bug.
So, Apple is aware they have a bug and we look forward to a bug fix -- at some point in the future. I hoped the problem would be fixed with the next iPhoto update but a major update came out today and the problem remains. I don't know if there's any way to know whether the problem is an OS bug or an iPhoto bug but either way we have to wait until it reaches the top of the pile at Apple...

  • Lion iphoto screensaver issue

I'am used to use use iPhoto screensaver on my iMac.
I'am using the "last 12 months" option in order to have a slideshow of the last year pictures.
Under Snow Leopard it was working perfectly. Since I have installed Lion, the "last 12 months" option selects a small fixed set of picture in a past timeframe which is much older than one year.
I have also noticed the same issue on my wife's iMac.
Does anyone have noticed such a behaviour ?

OK, sound right - thx Terence for your answer; but how does one flush the screensaver cache?
    And another question:
In iPhoto Slideshow faces are automaticly placed (more or less) in the center of the screen (quote from http://www.apple.com/ilife/iphoto/#new-slideshows: "Each shot is centered and framed perfectly, thanks to face detection.")
Why isn't this feature part of the screensaver showing iPhotos? I sure would like it to be!

  • Screensaver issue N8

i have just recently purchased an n8 and i am very impressed
however just today my screensaver which is set to the big clock has stopped working
for instance before when i locked the phone it went straight to the clock
now however the screen stays bright exactly how it is when using the phone and only a key appears in the top right of the screen
i know you all probably think im an idiot but can anyone tell me how to get the clock back?
    thankyou

It's covered quite a lot in this forum, but the gist is you do a 8 second restart and just leave the phone. The screen saver should then just kicik in by itself.
There are many threads to look at, try this one /t5/Nseries-and-S60-Smartphones/How-do-i-make-my-Nokia-n8-screen-go-blank-when-i-am-not-using-it/m-p...
Or alternatively look up "N8 screen saver issue" or "N8 Standby Issue".

  • IPhoto Screensaver Issue

    Hi,
Since updating to 10.10 I've noticed some annoying issues with my screensaver selection. Normally I have my screensaver set to my flagged photos on iPhoto which cycles through them, on 10.8 and 10.9 this has been fine. However since I updated to 10.10 it forgets my screensaver settings 100% of the time setting it to the National Geographic one which I'm now beginning to hate the sight of.
Any help would be great as I don't know what to do to fix it.
    Thanks

Send Apple feedback. They won't answer, but at least will know there is a problem. If enough people send feedback, it may get the problem solved sooner.

  • 20"+MacPro Screensaver issue?

Im wondering if this is an issue. I havent actually noticed this on much of any other monitors/macs but ive seen some sort of similar issues.
I have a 20inch ACD Aluminum bezel with a 2.66 macpro running an ATI card and when i use the flurry screensaver i get a line that starts from the bottom to the top of the screen ONLY DURING the flurry screen saver like some sort of scanning line
its all set on defaults, using FastCycle option. im not sure if its an issue or not since i dont see any affects anywhere else other than the screensaver?
hmanyone experience this or know of what it might be?
    thanks!

Well, I'm afraid I also don't have a solution to this problem, actually I stumbled across your post looking for a solution for exactly this problem
It also refuses to work with Aperture albums and folders.
It does however work when I use the 'Choose folder' option an choose a folder that is not a library or album from iPhoto or Aperture, so a normal folder containing pictures.
My setup: I have two identical 22" Acer LCD's on na ATI Radeon 9650 (256MB) in a PowerMac G5 DP 2.3 GHz.
I'm quite convinced it started after an Apple Software Update, I just don't know exactly when and which one... (it may have been the 10.5.6 update).
Has worked like a charm for many months before that.
I also did a clean install onto a new drive (not for this issue, just needed more space ) and copied all docs and settings, but the issue persists.
I hope someone at Apple is seeing this...

  • Password from Sleep/Screensaver Issues

I recently sent my Macbook Pro (running the newest version of Leopard) in to Applecare to have the DVD drive replaced. Before it left, I had my system preferences set up so that it required a password to wake the computer from screensaver and/or sleep. Now that I have it back, the box is still checked, but the computer doesn't require a password. It's like I don't even have the box checked. Ideas?

Just rebooted a few times. It works fine now.

  • Screensaver issues

HEy there i jsut got macbook a couple days ago and the screensaver worked now whenever i leave my macbook it just goes to a black screen then goes to sleep with no screen saver? is there something wrong here? or is it an easy fix? thanx

Open up the Energy Saver preference pane. If the little lock on the bottom left is locked then click on it and it'll ask for the admin name/password. Once you do that you'll be able to move the slider bars. The bottom bar is the one you want to use. Slide it so that it is further than what you've set your screensaver to activate. So say you have your screensaver to activate after 5min. of inactivity then you'll need to slide the slider past 5min.
That's how I have mine set. The screensaver kicks in after 5min. then in 10min. the screen will sleep and after 15min. the computer will sleep.

  • Mosaic Screensaver Issue

With an iPhoto event selected, and the option of "Present slides in random order" checked, the mosaic screensaver keeps cycling through only 2 photos, with one or both of those photos "developing" into a solid white rectangle. When I uncheck the "Present slides in random order", the mosiac screensaver seems to work as it should, although it seems sluggish. My iPhoto images are referenced instead of managed (not copied to the iPhoto Library). Would this have an effect on the mosaic screensaver?
The only way I can get the mosaic screensaver to work beautifully is to choose a folder of images on my hard drive instead of an iPhoto event or folder.
FYI, I have deleted all the preference files to rebuild the mosaic database, as well as rebuilt the iPhoto library, but it made no difference.

A restart shouldn't do any harm at all, since you sync everything make sure you don't restore.

  • Desktop & screensaver issues

replaced faulty hard drive several days ago, firewired data from my imac, updated all apple software. everything was fine until yesterday, when i noticed that both the screensaver photos were very low resolution and the desktop photos wouldn't rotate as set. resolution on any other application is fine.
    any suggestions?

Hello Revah and Welcome to Apple Discussions ...
Try trashing the desktop preference file and see if that helps. Here's how...
    Locate this file: com.apple.desktop.plist It's here: /Home/Library/Preferences
Open the Preferences folder, locate that file and drag it to the Trash, empty the Trash and reboot. You will have to reset your Desktop preferences but that takes less than minute. Go to System Preferences, try your Desktop pictures...
Also, here is some information regarding memory and MacBooks and graphics performance:
    http://docs.info.apple.com/article.html?artnum=303407
Hopefully the desktop preference files was the culprit...

  • Screensaver issue

    Hi everybody,
I really love using pics of an AP3 project as screensaver. However, selecting projects in the system preference tab, some projects just show black screen. Whereas other projects just work fine.
Does anyone have a suggestion what is going wrong ?

Since there was no reply yet, I will try to specify my problem. In system preferences, I choose Desktop & Screen Saver. Here, I can choose from several Sreen Savers, which are Aperture Projects. Selecting some projects, pictures come immediately in the little preview window. But with others, the preview window stays black.
Trying this out again, I notice, that it is fine with older projects, taken over from AP2, but it does not work with younger AP3 projects.

  • The kde-unstable 4.4 issues/discussion thread

i am opening this thread in order to discuss problems and general stuff refering to kde 4.4 from kde-unstable repository.
I start with the first problem i encountered this morning when i upgraded my system :
I have a problem with nepomuk daemon not starting. I tried to enable it in systemsettings through "Desktop search" menu, and i realized that "Desktop search" is missing. Do i need to install anything extra in order to have these settings back?

I'm stupid. How to use kde-unstable repository?
I have added this to my /etc/pacman.conf:
    [kde-unstable]
    Include = /etc/pacman.d/mirrorlist
    After that I did this:
    yaourt -Syu
    :: Synchronizing package databases...
    core is up to date
    extra is up to date
    community is up to date
    archlinuxfr is up to date
    kde-unstable is up to date
Now what? Like I said, I'm stupid

  • Screensaver Issue & iPhoto '08 albums/events

I have been using iPhoto '08 and adding albums and events. When I go to change my desktop/screensaver only my desktop accurately reflects changes made to the iPhoto apps albums and events. The screensaver preference does not reflect any changes made to albums/events. I've tried quitting iPhoto, logging out and restarting. Is there a preference file somewhere that I need to delete so that the screensaver preference rebuilds itself? Thanks!

Well, I found this,"com.apple.desktop.plist", in the Home folder-Library-Preferences. You might try deleting that.
I'm not crazy about iphoto. I dropped something like fifty photos on the application icon and it gave me like 30 events. That looked real nice in the Desktop and Screensaver preference pane. Not.
The problem might be iPhoto, but I'd try deleting the Preference I listed first. Good luck.

  • Music\video playlist - Screensaver issues

Before the last apple tv 2 update, I used to be able to have a music/video playlist play for a party and have the screensaver display pictures while playing music, then when a video would play the screensaver would automatically switch off and play the video.
After the update the music video will not overide the screensaver. The sound will play for the video but it will be stuck on the screensaver and not break out of it until I hit the menu button on the remote. Any ideas?

Can anyone verify this with the latest apple tv 2 update that came out?
