Kenwood KCA-IP500 & Video ipod

I've looked and looked and can't find anything on this. Is anyone else using this adapter with a video ipod and been able to play videos on a Kenwood receiver with a dvd player/screen? I'm basing my buying a video ipod on whether this will work or not. I've tried hooking my friend's into my stereo and switched the TV out to on, but nothing. Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

Anybody have any ideas?

    Hello!
Who managed to solve a problem with connection iPod classic (120Gb or 160Gb) to Kenwood KCA IP500 for full work and IPOD charging?
Who can explain me in detail?
I read at this forum that people have some problems but they didn't find the solution of these problems.
    https://discussions.apple.com/message/6567734#6567734
    https://discussions.apple.com/thread/1323641?start=15&tstart=0
    Now I am using Kenwood W8534 + KCA IP500 + iPod Video 5.5g 80Gb.
    This works very well.
But I want to buy 120Gb or 160Gb Ipod classic.
    PS.
I can't replace firmware in HU Kenwood W8534 because it haven't USB.
    Thanks!

I'm glad to see these issues are still getting airtime in these forums; less impressed to see that Apple still don't seem to have nailed this one down 100%.
For what it's worth the performance I'm seeing with my 1.1.2 Classic and the iP500 is more or less consistent, and useable, but frustrating. The (very) occasional random Eject problem I can deal with, but the very frequent refusal to charge is still annoying in the extreme. Sometimes the charging icon appears, but most times it doesn't.
For short journeys to and from work I don't even worry about this (20-30 minutes on the battery isn't the end of the world) but for longer journeys I have to remember to check whether the iPod is charging every time I stop and re-start the car's engine. I've taken to removing and re-inserting the dock connector several times with the ignition on until the lightning bolt logo appears, which works but probably isn't doing the physical connectors much good.
I like Ian's theory that the problems are to do with the handshake and/or logo download during initial connection. Because the Classic doesn't make use of the low-resolution monochrome Kenwood logo I'd forgotten the download even took place. The fact that a quick removal/reinsertion of the connector can sometimes goose the thing into charging may back this theory up; perhaps if the iPod isn't given enough time to flush its memory it doens't bother trying to re-negotiate the connection but just 'sees' the power connection straight away?
All guesswork of course, but with zero feedback from Apple, guesswork is all we have to go on.
I've never let my battery run down completely (and the iPod is never left in the car overnight) so I've yet to witness the complete refusal to connect that Ian describes, but it sounds frustrating in the extreme.
Let's hope 1.1.3 can put to rest the last of these issues.

  • IPod in the car with Kenwood KCA-iP500

I just connected a Kenwood KCA-iP500 iPod Control Interface to a Kenwood KDC-MP228 receiver. Installing the iPod Control Interface could not be easier (once the receiver is out of the dashboard). It’s just one cable that goes from the back of the receiver to the iPod. The sound quality is excellent, way beyond an FM modulator or cassette adapter. When the iPod is connected it gets power, but is also locked so that it can only be controlled via the in-dash receiver. That is not a problem since playlists, shuffle mode, and track selection are made with buttons on the in dash receiver. Moving between playlists works just like switching CDs in a CD changer. The playlist name and track name are also displayed on the receiver.

Hi Rob - I'm about to get the Kenwood interface too, but at the sacrifice of unplugging my much-loved 10 disc changer!
Could you answer some quick questions for me? The product info from Kenwood is thin - you really would make my day if you could fill me in on these. Thanks.
    1. I've read that the Kenwood interface only lets you play 10 playlists, like, the first 10 from your iPod or something. Is this true?
    2. Can you play/play all/shuffle/repeat an artist, genre, album or playlist like on your iPod, or is it just playlists? If so, how usable is this process?
    3. Most car MP3 systems suffer from massive usability problems. Is there anything that particularly limits this set up or annoys the crap out of you?
Thanks - any help you can give soon would be great! I have to decide by Friday if I want the stereo chap to install it or not!!

  • Kenwood KCA-iP500 ipod interface and iphone?

I have a kenwood touchscreen navigation/headunit and want to buy the Kenwood KCA-iP500 ipod interface to use with my iphone. This interface is for audio only. Will it work with the iphone? Anyone from apple want to chime in? Anyone out there who has tried this? I emailed Kenwood but m guess is that they will not know.

  • Classic with 1.1.1 and Kenwood KCA-ip500 issues...

Still having major problems with my 160GB Classic and the Kenwood in-car connector that worked fine with my old iPod Photo.
    1) The iPod will ONLY charge if already fully charged. It will not charge a flat iPod or one that says 'Connect to Power'. It still displays that message even when connected to the Kenwood connector (which works fine with the 20GB).
    2) Mystery 'Pause' problem. Every now and then (usually after turning off the car) the display on the Kenwood shows 'Pause' and pressing the Pause/Play button seems to work momentarily before showing 'Pause' again. Disconnecting and reconnecting the iPod seems to fix this.
    3) Mystery 'Eject' problem. If it doesn't show 'Pause', it might show 'Eject', although seeing 'Eject' usually means the battery in the iPod has gone flat.
It seems to me that the iPod is obviously not interpreting the signals from the Kenwood connector.
We're nearly there, because 1.1.1 now recognises my Cygnet dock as a power source (which 1.1/1.0.3 and prior didn't before). In other posts I stated that the power charge fix was there in 1.1.1, but obviously not for the Kenwood.
As I type this, my iPod is now charging from the Cygnet but refuses to acknowledge the Kenwood charger.
Come on Apple! You're nearly there!

I HAVE checked with Kenwood, in fact, their technical support on this matter has been far more impressive than Apple's.
The fact is, the KCA-iP500 has worked fine these last two years with my 20GB iPod Photo, as did my Cygnet dock.
When I first got the Classic, it would work neither with the dock nor the Kenwood, but matters have improved slightly since 1.1 - it now works with the Cygnet dock.
Previously, the Classic wouldn't even recognise the Kenwood as a charger - the battery level icon didn't change with 1.0.3. Then, with 1.1, it at least showed a 'plug' icon in the battery to show it is connected to a power source.
With 1.1.1, it actually shows the 'lighting bolt' icon to show it's charging, but will only do that if the battery is full! If the battery goes flat, it displays 'Connect to Power' - even when connected to the Kenwood.
I'm quite satisfied this is an Apple problem.

  • Kenwood KCA-iP500 with 5G iPod

5G users may know that you can use iPod wheel to browse your songs and movies in your ipod without disconnecting the plug on the bottom.
I just did it by pushing menu button the battery when iPod was fully charged and the screen had that full battery sign.
Is there anyway to keep that setting even if it's not fully charged?
Tried to search this on google but no luck..
    Does anybody know this "bug"?
    Thanks for any information. :]

  • Kenwood mobile audio and ipod

Is anyone else using the kenwood KCA-IP500 adapter with a video ipod and been able to play videos on a Kenwood car receiver with a dvd player/screen? Right now I'm using my nano on it and it works great, but I'm basing my buying a video ipod on whether this will work or not. I've tried hooking my friends' into my stereo and switched the TV out to on, but nothing. What I am trying to do is still be able to control the ipod through the touch screen stereo and be able to see video at the same time. I can play the audio portion of the video, but I'm not seeing the video part. Keep in mind this is in the car, attached to a video screen. I know I could just use the a/v kit attached to the stereo and control through the ipod, but I would like to control it through the stereo.
Any ideas? Thanks for any help.

I'm sorry I don't have an answer to your specific question except to point you to this cable that has an iPod dock to RCA connection which includes one for video as well as audio: http://www.installer.com/item/display_item.php?it=pxp01
As a new owner of the Kenwood ip500 ipod adapter hooked up to a KDC-MP532U deck I do however have a couple of questions for you.
When using your ip500 can you navigate using your ipod?
I've owned the setup for 2 days now and was (strangely) only able to navigate with the ipod itself for a brief time period - the rest of the time I get a "Kenwood OK to disconnect" screen on the ipod. I am not happy about this as the Kenwood HU navigation menus are linear and very cumbersome to navigate.
Do you have a Kenwood HU with a USB pigtail?
If so, can you use your ipod via that USB interface?
I have one on my HU but cannot see the ipod. I also cannot see the on Sandisc Micro Cruiser 512MB flash drive (FAT 16 formatted) which according to Kenwood is a brand that they officially list as working.

  • Kca-ip500 compat. w/ ipod video?

I searched, but didn't find the info I needed. Anyone here know if the kenwood car adapter KCA-IP500 is compatible with ipod video? They don't list it on their website, but I figure it's just too new.
I heard the ipod video and nano use a different protocol for accessing the ipod through the dock... is this true?

I use the same interface to connect the iPod to my Kenwood car head unit.
When connected, my iPod shows a Kenwood logo in the screen and the controls of the iPod are disabled. I then operate the iPod through the car head unit.
I have a car unit with a video screen and have not tried to play movies via the iPod, but as far as I know, you can't operate the iPod independently when connected to the car unit.
Well I can't that's for sure. Maybe your car unit works differently?

  • New Video iPod will not connect

I have a new video ipod that will connect on one computer but not the one I want to use. I have reloaded itunes several times and checked firewall. When I plug the ipod in the computer makes three dings. Is this an error code of some type? It will not show up in diagnostics and after trying it shuts down internet connection until computer is re-booted. It connects fine on the other computer. Has anyone got any answers? I have tried different plugs and it shows to charge just will not connect.

You want to check and see if the other computer has usb 2.0 first.
If it does try to reset the ipod while it is plugged into the computer. Reset is the menu and the center button on the ipod. Also make sure the hold switch is all white.
Also you want to make you that you try different usb ports.
If that doesn't work use msconfig type that into the search here on the support page let me know if this works.

  • My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

My classic video ipod won't switch back to regular video mode after using it on an elliptical. The port still allows me to charge and works on the elliptical and treadmill but it will no longer change modes to allow me to watch my shows on the ipod screen

From the iPod's Main Menu choose Videos -> Settings and make sure TV Out is set to Off.
Otherwise, try a hard reset as well.  To do this, press and hold both the Select (Center) and Menu buttons together long enough for the Apple logo to appear.

  • I have upgraded my Itunes to a Windows 8 Computer but now movies will not upload to my video ipod

Hi, Firstly thanks for clicking on to read this!!
I have been using an oldish computer for years for my Itunes, and having just purchased a Samsung touch screen computer with Windows 8 I have transfered all my Itunes over to the new computer.
All the music works fine and I have it all stored on a Passport usb drive to avoid 'clogging' up the new computer.
HOWEVER non of my videos or movies will now Sync to my video ipod. I just get the following message... "The videos were not copied to the ipod because they can not be played on this ipod".
I have already tried the following...
    1) Not using the Passport and importing it all on to the computer hard drive....... Same message comes up.
    2) Highlighting the TV shows and movies and going to file 'create ipod version' ... but this is greyed out and can not be selected.
I have tried re-downloading TV shows on the new computer however that will take AGES!!! (slow connection from Itunes when re-downloading ... 1 episode of bones takes about 4 hours and I have about 50 different series of various shows)... They did however sync to the ipod.
If I re-plug my ipod into the old computer and use my itunes though the passport again IT DOES WORK AND EVERY THING SYNCS!!!... thus I dont think the actual Ipod is faulty!!!!
Is this just an update that Apple are dragging their feet with (or not even bothering with).
Thanks for any advice or help you may be able to offer me.
    Andy

There's no reason that upgrading from Lion to Mountain Lion would make this application work.  I've looked up Music PadPro.  I don't know much about it, but it looks pretty old.  Here are the requirements:
Macintosh G4 or higher processor running Mac OS X Version 10.2.6 (minimum),
Mac OS X Version 10.3.2 (recommended), or Mac OS X Version 10.4.2.
Looking at that, I would guess that the application would require a PowerPC processor.  After the release of the Intel machines back in 2006, Apple included something called Rosetta within OS X.  This allowed programs developed for the older architecture (PowerPC) to run on the newer Intel machines.  The reason for this was to give developers some time to upgrade their applications to run natively on Intel processors.  It was only with the introduction of Lion that Apple pulled Rosetta from their OS.  They had basically given developers about five years to upgrade their applications.  Unfortunately, in your case, the developer went belly up.  You can always install an older version of the OS on either a separate partition or an external drive and you can run your program from there.

  • Error 1418 on BRAND NEW Video ipod - Only 48 hours old!

    Hi,
Just upgraded from a click wheel ipod to a new 80GB video Ipod. Installed itunes 7.02 and everything worked fine. Last night got the message saying an update was avaliable for my ipod so I clicked update and since then I get the following messages
    1. The ipod could not be read from or written to.
    2. The ipod is in recovery mode and needs to be restored
    3. Unknown error - 1418
    I have tried
    1. 5r's
    2. Reformat through windows
The ipod now says it is corrupt and needs to be restored through itunes but itunes only returns the 1418 message.
I have googled this to death and there seems to be alot of issues with the new firmware. I am really annoyed as I havent even had chance to listen to my music yet and ive spent alot of money on it.
Any one have any ideas please, any other Video users had a similar problem after the firmware update?
    Thanks

The link works for me. However, here's the post.
iTunes7 & 5th gen iPod updating - is this possible solution? (winXP)

Downloaded iTunes 7 and you've gone through the 5 R's until your red in the face?
    * This probable solution 'stumbled upon' using a 60GB video. I have no idea if the process will work the same for nano. But if your desperate and have backed up your library... full steam ahead.
If you've noticed that your iPod does not show up in My Computer, but shows up in iTunes, and the new Update or Restore option within iTunes (Summary tab of a recognized iPod) doesn't work (choosing 'Update' gives you error 1417 and 'Restore' gives you error 1418 - whatever they mean) then give this a try:
    1. Restart your computer - just to make sure we're all on the same page
    2. Start up/Load iTunes
    3. Connect your iPod to your computer - it may take a little time for iTunes to connect to your device
    4. When the dialogue box pops up telling you that a new version of firmware (ver. 1.2) is available choose: INSTALL
    5. As iTunes shows you a progressive bar of 'installing' (the bar scrolls across again and again) use the "Safely Remove Hardware" option in your taskbar and stop "Apple iPod USB Device". The computer will then tell you that the device can now be removed
    6. "Installing" continues... plug in/connect iPod again. The "Install" continues like nothing's happened. Weird, huh?
    7. Apple logo and Update status bar should now appear on your dimmed iPod screen (because of no backlight)
    8. At this point, dialogue box pops up on computer to tell you that updating continues
    9. "Do Not Disconnect" symbol will then show on your iPod
    10. Process finishes after a time, and now the Summary tab says the iPod has been updated.
HA!!! If this is all that troubles you - HUZZAH! And I hope this helped.
Now that we've come this far... I've found that when I normally open iTunes and plug in my iPod to aunto-sync, I now get ERROR (-50) -> Mac needs to get a database online or something to tell me what these 'errors' mean so I don't freak out when I get one...
    1. Go BACK to the Summary tab or your recognized deive in iTunes. Now choose RESTORE. Make sure whatever is on your iPod can be replaced
    2. This part takes time
    3. Computer will pop with dialogue box saying that iPod is restored and being changed to factory settings
    4. Prompt then pops up for you to name your little iPod. At this stage you can choose to 'Auto-sync songs and vids when connected' or 'Auto-sync photos' and from which directory. It's up to you.
    5. iTunes will then thank you for registering your iPod. From this point, the files are copied to your device. Depending on how large your library is affects how long this process takes.

  • HELP!!! 30 GB Video Ipod  not recognized by 2 computers

I have 2 ipods. I has been unable to connect my 30 gb video Ipod to my laptop for a while. Today I installed a new 8gb ipod and it works just fine, even with the same cable, on my laptop. I tried all the "R" except general reset cause my other computer with i tunes and old songs is dead. Tried to connect my 30GB ipod in disk mode and nothing works, even on a 3erd computer running vista. Either Xp or Vista does not recognize my 30 gb ipod on standard or disk mode... no recognition at all. Just installed the other 8gb ipod today and it just works fine. I read almost all topics and find no answer, HELP!

Nevermind I was able to figure it out elsewhere.
iPode was showing in Device Manager under Other Device. I was able to select and install USB drier and it worked
