Linux 2.6.18-194.el5 x86_64 mount new hard disk

Dear Team ,
my server is Hp server . Whihc I install the ERP App & DB on it .
The Operating system is Linux 2.6.18-194.el5 x86_64
/dev/cciss/c0d0p5 111G 43G 63G 41% /u03
/dev/cciss/c0d0p3 119G 109G 3.9G 97% /u01
/dev/cciss/c0d0p2 119G 104G 8.7G 93% /u02
As you See Up there no size in /U01 & /U02 Now I want Add 2 Internal Hard disk on the Slot 60 G + 60 G = 120 G
And want to mount this 60G to /u01 & 60G to /u02
so U01 it become 179 g and U02 it become 179 g withuot dirstub the current configration of DB & Application
its my test server . kindly advise how i can do this . as I am not a ware with Linux OS
DBA

You don't say what kind of filesystem /u01 & /u02 are, but if they are EXT file systems, then get their UUUID:
# blkid /dev/cciss/c0d0p3
UUID="abcdef..."
And then mount the file system based on the UUID with an /etc/fstab entry like:
UUID="abcdef" /u01 ext3 defaults 0 1
This way, it won't matter that the device names will change as LUNs are added or removed. The UUID is an attribute of the filesystem on the LUN, so a different LUN name won't matter in the least.

Now how to configure the multipath and how to use this allocated space.
Kindly guide me.
Thanks,
Muthu

Linux DM multipath determines whether or not discovered devices are individual devices or whether they are separate paths to one and the same device. This is accomplished by querying the device serial number. To install and configure multipath, please see the DM Multipath Guide available for your OS version installed: https://linux.oracle.com/documentation/.
If you need more help and examples, check the following thread: multipath -ll command doesn't give any output

• Mounting new hard drives

Where do you find mounting screws to add new hard drives to the HP Envy 700qe?

Hi,
In addition to the screw information posted already, here are some tips on adding a HDD to your system:
Before you open the chassis of your PC ensure that you:
UNPLUG the PC from the power mains
Take appropriate ESD precautions
Before adding a new HDD, it is best to ensure that you have properly backed up all of your files (including email, internet favourites, music, photos, movies, game save points and files containing your work, etc.
Hard Drive removal
Before you begin: Remove the access panel.
Steps
Remove the power and data cables from the back of the hard drive.
Pull out on the drive release latch at the side of the drive bay and pull the hard drive out of the unit.
Hard Drive replacement
Steps
When installing a new hard drive, detach the four screws on the sides of the old hard drive and install on the sides of the new hard drive.
Slide the hard drive -spindle side up- into the drive bay until the drive latch snaps into place.
Attach the power and data cables to the rear of the drive.
I'd also suggest that you check hp.com for the 'User Guide' or 'Upgrading and Servicing Guide' for your specific model, as older units had a cage arrangement for HDD's, whereas newer models have a fixed drive bay. The difference is that the cage arrangement you screw the HDD into the cage, with the fixed drive bay, you screw in the screws into the HDD and slide the HDD into the bay .
Hope this assists.
I work for HP but my posts and replies are my own.

• Upgraded to 10.4.9 on MBP 15", now, I can't mount external hard disk!

Hi all,
I have a LaCie 500GB drive that I've been using perfectly since I've gotten it, but alas, I upgraded to 10.4.9 and it no longer mounts either by it's USB interface or by its Firewire interface.
My machine is a MBP 15" (2.16 GHz, 2 GB Ram), which works perfectly in all other respects and is now running 10.4.9.
The symptoms are that when I plug it in, I usually get the message, "The disk you inserted was not readable by this computer" with the options "Initialize...", "Ignore", and "Eject". So far, I haven't pressed any buttons except Ignore or Eject. Sometimes, I do not get this message, but it still doesn't mount, it just silently does nothing.
So, after pressing "Ignore", I've opened Disk Utility and had a look. The physical drive appears and there is one volume named "disk2s6" which for all purposes is probably my normal, logical volume (partition). However, last time it mounted on this machine, it was named "Archive". This logical volume is grey and will not mount no matter how many times I press the "Mount" button. It just does nothing.
OK, so, while I'm in Disk Utility, I ran Verify Disk and, after the normal routine, it comes back with "No Repairs Necessary". I've also tried "Repair Disk" and this comes back "No repairs were necessary", again after the full, normal processing of the various things.
I also performed a Fix Permissions on my startup-volume, but this didn't help either.
Next test was to mount the disk on my MacMini (PPC) instead, also running 10.4.9. It mounts perfectly and it properly comes up with the name "Archive" as expected.
I've then tried to mount other devices on my MBP including a USB memory key, and another external Firewire drive. These both mount perfectly on my MBP.
While I was at this, I've also tried new USB and Firewire cables, this didn't affect my results in the least.
I've finally verified that there is nothing in /Volumes out of the ordinary that might prevent it from mounting by doing a "sudo ls -la" whilst in /Volumes/. There's not a thing that would affect the mount-point.
I then disabled my folder actions that I've been running on the directory /Volumes *I had an action used to backup my USB key). Unfortunately, I still have the same issue.
Finally, I downloaded the Combo 10.4.9 installer, booted into Safe Mode (to trigger an automatic fsck), then rebooted and installed the 10.4.9 Combo installer, in case there was some weirdness in the Software Update upgrade to 10.4.9.
What stone have I left unturned? Why won't this drive mount, but it works perfectly elsewhere? I want to get back to using Aperture on my MBP and my entire photo Library is on this disk (well, and backed up on another external drive, but it lives normally on my MBP).

• Automatically mounting ext hard disks on an Airport Xtreme wireless network

In a call to Apple Airport support, I was told that every time I brought up my MacBook Pro running 10.5.2, if I wanted my external disk, which is directly attached to my Airport Extreme router through a USB port, to show on my desktop as an icon, I would have to go through the following procedure: Finder > Shared/Apple Airport > external disk name (file folder icon) > close window and the icon will appear on the desk top. When I mentioned to the support specialist that on my PowerBook G4 running 10.4.11, whenever I bring up the system, the external disk icon appears automatically as long as I have enabled "Show Airport Disks in the menu bar" in AirPort Disk Utility. He told me that there is no AirPort Disk Utility in 10.5- the facilities of the disk utility purportedly now are included in the 10.5 Airport Utility (this facility for automatically showing the external disk on the desktop must apparently been left out).
As a user, let me state that from my perspective, 10.5 has a taken a giant step backward in usability! Whereby under 10.4, the user had to do nothing upon bringing up the system, with 10.5 , four separate steps must be taken! Anybody know of a workaround?

I was told that every time I brought up my MacBook Pro running 10.5.2
If by "brought up" you mean to +start up+, and you are describing mounting a network drive attached to your Airport Extreme, I would do the following.
Mount the network drive manually. Open System Preferences Accounts pane. Select your user account and go to the +Login Items+ tab. Click-hold-drag-drop the icon for the network drive (from the Desktop) to the Login Items list. Try restarting (or logging in/out) to see if the network drive mounts automatically.
I don't know about the Airport Disk Utility, but that's how I've been mounting disks over my network (attached to other Macs) for years, using Login Items. I don't have a drive attached to my Airport Extreme, so I can't try it myself.

• AFP Mount NO OPTION to mount entire hard disk

After installing Leopard, I'm no longer able to mount using the AFP protocol the entire hard drive. Earlier, it would give me the option of mounting "Hard_Drive" or "User", but now somehow it only gives me the "User" mount option. I'm the super user/root so I don't understand.
Any ideas?

The reason seems to have been that somehow my account (I'm the only user) lost administrative access. I found the solution here. It works.

1. Shut down the computer if it is on.
2. Press the power button to start the computer.
3. Immediately press and hold the Command (Apple) key and one of the following:
the "s" key for single-user mode.
4. Type mount -uw /
5. Type passwd
6. Enter new password (this will be for the root user account)
7. Type reboot
8. Login with any of your usernames just to get the desktop up.
9. After desktop comes up choose System Preferences, then choose accounts. Unlock if you have to and using the username: root ..... password you just setup in the single user mode You now should be able to make users including the top user on the left an admin...
(just so everyone knows... I didn't realize from above post that I was supppose to unlock with the USERNAME: "root" instead of my own user name.

• Mounting external Hard Disk

Hello.
I have an external HDD (USB) that I use for moving large files between computers. I plugged it into my Mac and it mounted fine, worked great. Unfortunately, Spotlight immediately took over and started indexing the heck out of the drive. I tried adding the drive to Spotlight's Private pane, but it wouldn't add and kept on indexing. I killed mdimport, but the CPU was still through the roof and the drive wouldn't eject (dialogue said that it was in use). I didn't have time for any of this crap, so I did the only reasonable thing to get the Mac to quit working like crazy on the drive--I yanked the USB cord. Worked great, even if the computer bitched at me about not doing that. Yeah, I know it was a bad idea, but I didn't see any other choices in my immediate time frame.
So, now Finder won't mount the HDD. All the data appears to be there. The drive works fine. Windows has no issues mounting it. Is there some hidden file (like all those .ds_stores) that might be corrupted on the HDD, or some file on my Mac that I can trash that will get the HDD to mount like normal again? I haven't tried mounting the HDD on a different Mac. Any suggestions appreciated.

1. You wrote: " But my CPU usage goes to near 100%, and Activity Monitor does not list any processes to account for this (mdimport is not listed)."
1.1. Is that CPU utilization as reported by Activity Monitor?
1.2. Have you sorted the list of processes in descending order by %CPU? In Activity Monitor, click the %CPU column heading until the list is in descending order.
1.3. Before connecting and powering-on the drive, set up Activity Monitor as noted above. Additionally, in Activity Monitor, select View > Update Frequency > Very Often. Then connect the drive and power it on, watching Activity Monitor.2. Per your other questions re: Finder, if it was a Finder issue, Finder would be the process consuming the CPU per Activity Monitor. 100K files is nothing for Finder. Is the drive or a folder on the drive open in a Finder window when this happens?
3. Is this a new drive? If so, I'd contact the manufacturer or vendor: it may be defective. If not a new drive, what changes did you make to your system before this problem arose.
4. Have you tried a different USB cable? Different USB port?
5. See if an errant Startup or Login Item is causing the problem: see my "Troubleshooting Startup and Login Items" FAQ.
6. When the problem occurs, immediately check these Console logs for clues.
Good luck!

• New hard disk has blank Mount Point

I recently installed a new disk which I am now using as my main HD.
From within System Profiler and also Disk Utility I have noticed that the mount point is blank, whereas the old HD disk had a mount point of '/Volumes/Macintosh HD'.
Is this OK? All seems to be OK with the new disk but I would like to confirm if I have to do anything else with the new disk.
Thanks.

The standard mount point for a startup volume is '/'. This isn't blank but the Unix terminology for a startup volume if you are running Disk Utility from the startup volume.

• Installing Oracle Linux on external hard-disk or DVD

Hi All,
Is it possible to install Oracle Enterprise Linux on external hard-disk or DVD?
I already have Windows 7 and want to install Oracle Enterprise Linux either in dual-boot mode or on external hard-disk/DVD. I want to install Oracle E-Business Suite on Linux.
Can you also let me know the minimum RAM capacity required for running Oracle E-Business Suite R12 on Oracle Enterprise Linux?
Pointers and workarounds are highly appreciated.
Regards,
Kashif

It's technically possible, but why bother? Since you are asking this question you will very likely run into more trouble with such a setup. In addition, Oracle Enterprise Linux is designed for server hardware and will give you additional trouble if you install it on a desktop or laptop computer.
I would recommend to you to install Oracle Virtualbox and install OEL as a guest OS and run Linux side by side with your Windows system. There is plenty of information for this task on the web. For the latest version and info on Virtualbox see http://www.virtualbox.org/
System and hardware requirements for Oracle e-suite will be a different questions, for which you might find answers here:

However, the Red Hat (and associated downstream compilations like CentOS and Oracle Linux) don't use DKMS. What you want is to install kernel-devel so it builds the full kernel modules, not the DKMS module. We provide the kernel-devel package for Oracle Linux on the install media, on ULN and via our public yum repository at http://public-yum.oracle.com

In short, I found the missing file (libc.so) and I tried to create a simbolic link to it in the path rpm was asking (/usr/lib). In my system I found 2 (32 and 64 version). I tried both, I mean to link /usr/lib/libc.so to 64 version (as you can see in the console). It did not work. Then I did rm and ln -s to the 32 version of it but same result.
Any idea?
Thanks in advance.
Felipe

You have probably compat-glibc installed but your are missing glibc-devel package, which contains object files for development using standard C libraries.
I'm haven't tried it under RHEL, but it should work to setup the Oracle public yum repository, which will allow you to use e.g. yum install oracle-validated. This method will automatically fetch dependent packages. More info at: http://public-yum.oracle.com/

• OAM Webgate 10.1.4.2 BP7 installation on RHEL5 2.6.18-92.el5 x86_64 ?

Hello,
Is it possible to install OAM Webgate 10.1.4.2.0 Bundle Patch 7 on Linux RHEL5 X86_64 (2.6.12-92.el5 x86_64 ?.
If yes what is the procedure to follow?
The “Oracle Identity Management 10g Release 3 (10.1.4.x) Certification Matrix .xls” claims it’s certified but we are not able to complete the installation.
During the first installation with the 10.1.4.0.1 media (Oracle_Access_Manager10_1_4_0_1_linux_APACHE2_Webgate) the installer said it was unable to configure the WebGate … So we continue anyway apply the Oracle_Access_Manager_10_1_4_2_0_Patch_linux_APACHE2_WebGate patch set and after the Oracle_Access_Manager_10_1_4_2_0_BP07_Patch_linux_APACHE2_WebGate bundle patch.
After patches application we tried to launch oblix/tools/start_configureWegate but we had a “cannot open shared object file” on libnsl.so.1..
Commenting the “export LD_ASSUME_KERNEL=2.4.19” allows the tools to be launched but after generating the certificate (simple mode) it stays stuck on “Preparing to connect to Access Server. Please wait”…
Best regards,
EDIT:
After a long time waiting on "Preparing to connect to Access Server. Please wait" the configureWebGate finally returned: "Access Server you specified ins currently down. Pleas check your Access Server"
Well looking at the Diagnostics in System management console shows the corresponding Access Server up ...
So I'm afraid it is not possible to make Webgate working on RHEL5 x86_64 :(
If someone makes it work please tell me !

Hello,
Thanks Pramod for your advice,
You were right the first issue was due to a clock difference (I didn't figure out the NTP synchronisation was broken with our RHEL5 64bit test VM)
Well after correctly configuring clock synchronization with NTP, I run the configurewebgate and successfully configure it :)
Anyway after configuring my Apache (64bits) to handle the webgage I received the following error when starting it:
../oblix/apps/webgate/bin/webgatessl.so: wrong ELF class: ELFCLASS32
--> webgate.so / webgatessl.so are compiled with 32bits libs
I tried several time the installation and I'm sure I provided the 64bits libgcc_s.so.1 and libstdc++.so.5 during the initial install... but even before applying the patchs an ldd on webgate.so / webgatessl.so shows they are linked to the 32 bits libs...
I browse metalink to see if there is a dedicated 64bits patch for BP7 or BP8... but I found nothing
So I'm still not able to make it works on a RHEL5 64 bits... so I do not see why it is certified in oracle_access_manager_certification_10.1.4_r3_matrix.xls in webgate sheet.
I will open a call and let you know...
Best regards,

• Security Question Linux 2.6.18-164.el5 - Home User Directory Changed

I logged into my unix account and was unable to update any folders or create files. The ownership has changed. This is the second occurrence where the first time the tech support denies it occurred. Didn't have any screenshots... Now I have screenshots for evidence. How can I determine when this happened or the user responsible?

I logged into my unix account and was unable to update any folders or create files. The ownership has changed.Your description is not much help. It does not provide any information, such as:

What was the new file permissions? (Hint: ls -ld $HOME)

What file ownership should the directory have? (Hint: ls -ld $HOME after the file permissions are repaired.

Were you logged on to the system when the change occurred?

How is the $HOME directory mounted? Local disk? NFS mount? SAN? Thumb drive?

Who else was logged into the system when this happened?

Did this happen after a system reboot?

What did tech support actually do to repair the file permissions?

In other words, give us a glimmer of an idea about your issue.
