Kernel Panic broke Apple TV
Hi All,
First off, I love the Apple TV, it does exactly what I want but I'm not a happy at the moment. I was streaming music this morning when everything just stopped. Looking at my PowerBook it had a kernel panic and it needed a reboot to fix it. The problem now though is that my Apple TV is no longer responding. The little light on the front just flashes orange to every press of the remote.
The remote is paired to the Apple TV and I don't have another remote so unpairing doesn't appear to be an option.
I've tried pulling the power out of the back of the thing but it doesn't help with the remote being recognised.
Does anybody have any suggestions.
Richard
Is AppleTV showing the paired chainlink for the remote? If it's not then try pairing it again. If it's showing it's paired try unpairing it and repairing it.
To do these tasks:
unpair - hold MENU and the << button on the remote for 6 seconds
pair - hold MENU and the >> button on the remote for 6 seconds
Hope this helps

Greetings
I started to get Kernel Panics (2 today). I pasted in the last one.
The last one happened while Time Machine was running and Spotlight did indexing.
I cannot say for sure that this was the case when the first kernel panic was thrown but I presume it was.
CPU was pretty busy both times and the fans running full speed.
Anyone any thoughts on what's going on here?
Thanks & Regards,
Stefan

if it is set up to block access to infected files and you have some of them somewhere in downloads or mail attachments - it can try to block spotlight and/or time machine access - thus probably causing deadlock in storage subsystem.
Do you know that for now the only malware for Mac is cured by mac os itself? (there was appropriate update)
all known to me Mac antivirus software scans for Windows viruses, which are of no harm to you.
Anyway, boot from DVD and repair HD
otherwise may be one of your's mounted media is dying - try to see smart status for it, espesially bad blocks remapped
trying to read from scratched DVD wery rarely can cause KP also

Hi Everyone!
Over the last couple of days my MacBook performs a kernel panic and forces me to restart. I have to restart a couple of times before it works properly again, but sometimes the screen stays black when I turn it on, and it just sits there until I restart it again using the power button.
I've taken dump of the error message in panic.log and it appears that it is the AirPort card causing problems. Can someone confirm this, and suggest what I need to do to resolve this issue as it is becoming quite annoying now. I bought my MacBook back in October last year, so it should still be under warranty.
Heres the relevent content of the panic.log:

Darwin Kernel Version 8.9.1: Thu Feb 22 20:55:00 PST 2007; root:xnu-792.18.15~1/RELEASE_I386Hey boys and girls...
Well, after reading a few of the posts, I can say this:
1. I have the N activated from the factory- This is a week old macbook. (Utilities/Network Utility, choose en1 from the dropdown - if you see (802.11 a/b/g/n), you have n installed)
2. The ONLY airport driver loaded into the kernel is atheros, meaning it MUST be the active driver. See kextstat -l | grep -i airport
3. I have been monkeying with replacing extensions from previous versions. So far, I have not had a wifi dropout or kernel panic... BUT IT'S EARLY IN MY TESTING.
Here's how I replaced the extension. This is taken directly from a macfixit tutorial. NOTE: 10.4.9 still produced a wifi lockup. I have now used the airport kext (I chose all I found) in 10.4.8 and SO FAR (only tonight) I have not had a dropout. IT COULD STILL HAPPEN THOUGH, SO YMMV:
Reverting to older AirPort kernel extensions [Useful for: slow wireless throughput, router not recognized]
f you are experiencing dire AirPort connectivity issues after a major system update (incremental Mac OS X update or Security Update), and have exhausted all other workarounds, you can try reverting to older version of the AirPort kernel extension via the following steps: [WARNING: This workaround is risky because you should not generally mix and match kernel extensions after updates. You will also lose any AirPort-related refinements brought about by the most recent update and new conflicts can ensue. Still, in a bind, it can restore wireless connectivity where other workarounds fail.]
1. Download the Mac OS X combo updater directly precedent to your current system version if you applied an incremental Mac OS X update (e.g. Mac OS X 10.4.9), or your current system version if you applied a security update from Apple's download page.
2. Download and install the shareware application Pacifist
3. Drag the Mac OS X combo installer package (e.g. MacOSXUpd10.4.9Intel.pkg) onto the Pacifist application icon.
4. Click the triangle next to System to expand it
5. Click the triangle next to Library to expand it
6. Click the triangle next to Extensions to expand it
7. Scroll down and find the file AppleAirPort.kext. Drag it to your Desktop or another location (you will have to enter your administrator password)
8. On your Mac OS X startup drive, navigate to /System/Library/Extensions and locate a similarly named file (AppleAirPort.kext). Move it to another location for safe keeping.
9. Now drag the file from step 7 (the one that you retrieved from the Mac OS X combo install package) into the /System/Library/Extensions directory on your startup, in effect replacing the newer file (installed by the AirPort updater) with and older copy -- you will have to enter an administrator password.
10. Restart your Mac

Kernel panic: com.apple.ATIRadeonX1000
My father's iMac has been panicking once every few days for the last month or so.
I don't know what he was doing at the time and he doesn't remember. I'm just visiting for Christmas and trying to learn what I can post-mortem.
I don't see any non-Apple kexts, which would have been my first guess.
Here's the latest panic file... Any ideas?

Kernel panics: com.apple.iokit.IOUSBAttachedSCSI
I've been experiencing a number of kernel panics lately, about once per day (it always seems to happen while I'm at work). The problem report seems to indicate that the com.apple.iokit.IOUSBAttachedSCSI kernel extension is the culprit, leading me to believe that my backup disk is the issue here. All four USB ports on the rear of my iMac are exhausted with the following peripherals.
- LaCie 2big 4TB external drive, connected via USB 3, configured with RAID 1 and Mac OS Extended (Journaled) file system, passes the disk utility check
- Audioengine D1 external DAC
- Apple Superdrive
- The last USB port is connected to an APC UPS
I did a bit of googling on this problem and found several people recommending booting in safe mode, removing certain peripherals, uninstalling software for peripherals, etc. Safe mode is not really feasible since this only seems to happen once per day. All of these peripherals are essential to my workflow and none have required the installation of third-party software. I quite frankly find it inexcusable that a USB peripheral would be causing daily kernel panics. Has anyone else experienced these problems and have a potential fix? I should also note that all of these peripherals had been working with my iMac for many months without issue before these kernel panics started. Here's the the system configuration information that is generated in the report sent to Apple:

Thunderbolt Bus: iMac, Apple Inc., 23.4I suggest you start by removing the LaCie software, which is not needed to use the drive. You have no other software capable of causing panics. Test.
If there's no improvement, remove the two aftermarket memory modules that you installed and test again.
Any third-party software that doesn't install by drag-and-drop into the Applications folder, and uninstall by drag-and-drop to the Trash, is a system modification.
Whenever you remove system modifications, they must be removed completely, and the only way to do that is to use the uninstallation tool, if any, provided by the developers, or to follow their instructions. If the software has been incompletely removed, you may have to re-download or even reinstall it in order to finish the job.
I never install system modifications myself, and except as stated in this comment, I don't know how to uninstall them. You'll have to do your own research to find that information.
Here are some general guidelines to get you started. Suppose you want to remove something called “BrickMyMac” (a hypothetical example.) First, consult the product's Help menu, if there is one, for instructions. Finding none there, look on the developer's website, say www.brickmymac.com. (That may not be the actual name of the site; if necessary, search the Web for the product name.) If you don’t find anything on the website or in your search, contact the developer. While you're waiting for a response, download BrickMyMac.dmg and open it. There may be an application in there such as “Uninstall BrickMyMac.” If not, open “BrickMyMac.pkg” and look for an Uninstall button. The uninstaller might also be accessed by clicking the Customize button, if there is one.
Back up all data before making any changes.
You will generally have to restart the computer in order to complete an uninstallation. Until you do that, there may be no effect, or unpredictable effects.
If you can’t remove software in any other way, you’ll have to erase and install OS X. Never install any third-party software unless you're sure you know how to uninstall it; otherwise you may create problems that are very hard to solve.
Trying to remove complex system modifications by hunting for files by name often will not work and may make the problem worse. The same goes for "utilities" such as "AppCleaner" and the like that purport to remove software. -
Kernel Panic Nvidia Quadro Pro 4000 CC14 MAC PRO 10.9.4 mavericks
I get kernels panics constantly when using CC14 lightroom and photoshop.. And this is causing me to loose thousands of dollars. I have searched for months have lost thousands of dollars in work, have trued to contact support only to be sent to community forums which i get no response...o
THEREFORE.....
Allow me to waste more time by contacting this unresponsive company.
i constantly get Kernel Panics when using CC14 associated with my NVIDIA Quadro 4000 2048 while using cc14 photoshop and lightroom since I updated to Maverick 10.9.4.
I have been searching for fixes for months, i have updated everything, every driver, and this has costed me THOUSANDS of dollars in pay i am unable to receive because my %^&* computer keeps crashing.
Now i am pissed! I have consulted APPLE and even after pushing me up to the top level. they still read off a piece of paper. ! i just wanted to go back to osx before mavericks which i was having NO ISSUES but no one seem to have a clue at apple how to even turn one on.
1. i am NOT doing a master restore and I NEVER had a problem before Mavericks and CC14!!!
2. Every driver is updated every firmware is updated
3. there is NOTHING RUNNING IN HTE BACKGROUND
4. i did an smc and reset pram
5. ran disk utility -- no problems
6. searched for answers for months.
7. and by the way..... photoshop cc14 does not save your work on a crash. it saves what you already saved
I AM TIRED OF WASTING MY TIME TRYING TO GET ANSWERS WHEN I ONLY GET IGNORED.
this is an issue with my nvidia quadro pro 4000 video card and -- adobe and - mavericks.
MY system is high end, mac pro 5,1 Processor 2 x 2.93 GHz 6-Core Intel Xeon Late 2010 20 gig ram, quadro pro 4000 and an APPLE SSD TS512B
solid state
and i spent 10 gran on this system. I am a professional and this is my BUSINESS... my only income. not a kid playing games.
The video card was over a 1000.00! Nvidia? ADOBE?
This needs to be fixed. this is my livelihoodThanks for responding....of course I mean adobe. A community forum is NOT a company.
I read the link to the thread and this person says an application CANNOT cause kernel panics -- well Apple begs to differ. http://support.apple.com/kb/PH14063
I have my own photography studio, ive spent over a half million dollars on my education (2 masters degrees) my equipment, and traveling the world to various workshops. I spend some evening researching new technology to stay on top of my craft but what I dont do and dont have time to do is follow forums regularly.
Therefore i dont know that this person has repeatedly said the same thing over and over in different threads about applications causing KP.
You suggested that I take my trouble shooting somewhere else...trust me this is not the first place ive tried to get answer.s I have been trying to resolve this issue since i updated to 10.9.4 and CC 14 and Nvidia Quadro pro 4000. It has been months of phone calls research, forums, talking to anyone i know that knows anything and I have lost thousands of dollars. My digital lab ran perfect before the updates.
so......
First...I DISAGREE with the guy in the thread because what he wrote is just his opinion. It doesnt matter wjho he works for, it a person converses a fact with NO REFERENCES then it looses credibility. I always include a reference when I make a statement to anyone
second: as i said in my discussion -- i have done everything and the only time i get kernel panics is when using photoshop - nothing else running in the background, and the issue is with the video card drivers , 10.9.4 and photoshop and lightroom CC14.
lastly; I know my video card is fine because Ive had photoshoots where i tethered (as I alwasy do) to Phocus software for my Hasselblad H4d and there is never a crash or kernel panic issue. ever.
I ONLY GET KERNEL PANICS WHEN I USE ADOBE PHOTOSHOP OR LIGHTROOM CC14 AND IT HAS ONLY HAPPENED SINCE I UPDATED TO 10.9.4 AND CC14
apple told me to do a restore -- they were just reading me what they were supposed to say. -
Kernel panic with wifi backup to Time Capsule
I have had no problem with wireless backup to Time Capsule until recently when I would consistently get a kernel panic during the backup. Is it a corrupt file? How would I isolate it? Or could it be a directory problem that DiskWarrior would fix? I can mount the backup image on my desktop OK.
I suppose I could erase my backup image on the Time Capsule, but I dont want to lose all that data. And if I did, what is the best way to archive that TIme Capsule backup image?
Thanks for any help.Arthur Simonsen wrote:

First, Repair your backups per #A5 in the Time Machine - Troubleshooting *User Tip,* also at the top of the +Time Machine+ forum.
If that doesn't help, here's a bunch of kernel panic info:
Apple Support - About kernel panic messages
Mac OS X Kernel Panic FAQ
The X Lab - Resolving Kernel Panics
Apple Developer - Technical Note TN2063: Understanding and Debugging Kernel Panics
Tutorial: Avoiding and eliminating Kernel panics

If your backups are ok, erasing the drive probably won't help. But to "archive" the backups, see this Apple article: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1281 -
Kernel Panics (AFPFS) when using airport discs AND user switching!
Ok,
I would love to see if anyone else has had this happen;
I can replicate this on 2 Mac Pro's we use:
We have airports discs (in accounts mode) connected, all works fine. However, IF one user does not log out, and another logs on (user switching) we will invariably get a Kernel Panic after some time (sometimes when putting to sleep or logging on, sometimes 'just'. This has not happened when airport discs are NOT MOUNTED, or befure using them (we are using the latest, just-updated software patch). Any suggestions?

DanI don't have any solutions, but I had been reading about some folks having airport related kernel panics in the MacBook discussion forum. As a matter of fact, I had a kernel panic a little while back on my MacBook, and the crash log pointed to some issues with airport drivers. Here is what Macfixit says about these drivers and I quote:
"Bad built-in hardware (including hard drives) Repeated kernel panics can be the result of incompatible, damaged or misconfigured built-in hardware. This includes built in AirPort, Bluetooth and other networking hardware, corrupt or damaged hard drives, faulty processors and more. Examine your crash log (as discussed in our tutorial "An introduction to reading Mac OS X crash reports") for clues as to which device is implicated.
Sometimes the fix is as simple as re-seating built-in hardware. Make sure any PCI, PCI Express, AirPort and other expansion-type hardware is firmly and properly seated in its appropriate port.
In other cases, the fix involves attacking the problem at a driver or kernel extension level. Again, examine your crash reports and look for components specifically linked to certain hardware. For instance, the following Mac OS X components are all used by Apple AirPort hardware, and can be implicated (by crash logs) in kernel panics:
com.apple.driver.AirPortAtheros5424(100.21)
com.apple.iokit.IONetworkingFamily(1.5.0)
com.apple.iokit.IOPCIFamily(1.9)
com.apple.iokit.IO80211Family(110.19)
After determining device-specific components, you can try re-installing them -- either by performing an "Archive and Install" of Mac OS X, or downloading and manually placing items."

Kernel panic during Time Machine initial backup
Hi all!
I've got the Airport Extreme 2009 and external WD My Passport 320GB attached to it via USB and shared to the LAN. While initial backup with Time Machine via WiFi my MacBook Pro gets kernel panic.
My Passport has been formatted as Extended Journaled Case-sensitive file system.
Did anybody stumble upon such problem?Hi, and welcome to the forums.
You need to know that backing-up that way is "iffy" and +*not supported by Apple.+* See Using Time Machine with an Airport Extreme Air Disk (or use the link in *User Tips* at the top of this forum).
Kernel panics are usually caused by hardware problems, but can be software.
Disconnect all peripherals, except keyboard and mouse. Reconnect one at a time to see if you can find the culprit.
If that's no help, run the Apple Hardware Test: http://support.apple.com/kb/HT1509
And perhaps a heavy-duty memory test, such as the free Rember: http://www.kelleycomputing.com/

If you still want to back up via the Airport, the first backup will be much faster if you connect via Ethernet. -
Kernel Panics when using Airport Extreme Card...I think
So I have been to the Apple store 7 times in the last three days...here are the problems I've been having and what they've done. Any advice is greatly appreciated!
All of a sudden I started having Kernel Panic crashes (a least 5 a day.) Seemed to mostly happen when I was browsing (using Firefox.) Also I would usually experience an intermittent connection to the internet before a crash. (i.e. I would be browsing, then the connection would be lost...I'd turn off Airport...turn back on...then a few minutes later while browsing...crash)
Here is what I've done:
- At first we thought it was software...after two erase/install, that wasn't it.
- Maybe the new RAM from OWC...re-sat the RAM, took RAM out and replaced with factory RAM...had OWC send new RAM, that wasn't it.
- Maybe it is logic board, factory RAM, or Airport Extreme card...Apple replaced today...and THAT wasn't it.
- Got home after all these new parts and it crashed again while browsing wirelessly. So, I thought, "Could my Qwest wireless network be doing this!?!?!"
Have tried some different settings with Qwest and am awaiting another crash.
Does anyone have any idea what else I could try? (2 erase and installs, a new logic board, new RAM, new AE card, didn't do it!)
I so appreciate any help or advice. I'm in the middle of a couple of major projects and cannot bear to go back to the Apple store for an 8th time!

Since buying my MacPro in September I have had constant problems with kernel panics (something apple tells me is extremely rare!). A bit of history... first time, Apple replaced hard drive...worked for a month then kernel panics when watching video (either dvd, online, projects for class...) then constant (every 20 minutes or so again). Returned to Apple... another new hard drive... a week later more kernal panics... new logic board... okay, that was mid january and it worked fine for about a week until i watched video again (full screen crashed it at first, then every video, then everything). Vista has worked seamlessly the entire time (installed via bootcamp)... Yesterday upon the advice of Apple, zeroed out the volume and reinstalled leopard... fine until tonight when I used itunes... now panicking again... before yesterday had run memtest (long), techtools, applejack, cocktail, hardware test... nothing wrong and the Apple store has never found anything memory related either... so it seems video usually starts it happening, then it just cascades... i'm a grad student and afraid to use leopard for anything now... I've thought of just installing vista on the bulk of the drive since it works better than leopard, but i'd really like to get this working....

Kernel panic software or hardware?
I bought a brand new macbook Pro 13" that came with snow leopard 10.6.4, after 2 month of using it i start getting Kernel Panic, i didn´t know what was it so when i took it to apple store they said that the hard drive was corrupted so they change it, a week later i start getting Kernel panic again, they have done test of software and hardware and they found nothing so they said it must be a program that a installed that caused it, is that possible? when i got my computer back i only installed skype and yahoo msn and i end up getting kernel panic too, (can skype or yahoo msn can cause kernel panic?), apple store is not being much help because they said its software so i don't know what else to do.
this is the error i get so i will happy if somebody know what this means:

i have tried all this so far:
1) run the fsck pressing command +option S key
2) i have done option + command + R + P
3) i have run the disc pressing C key and check the softward, sometimes i get nothing and sometimes i get that some volume folder has move but it fixed it.
4) i have run the disk pressing D and sometimes i get nothing and sometimes i get this hardward error 4MEM/9/40000000:0XA9F75D18, apple said that that hardware error was cause because of a softward problems, is it possible?.
5) i have reinstall the Mac OS X software again without deleting the information i have, all the softward its up to date.
6) i have install Onyx and do check the softward all the time.
Another thing is that before they change the hard drive i also have problem with internet, apple store have check my airport card and they said its works fine, that i had that problem because of the driver, but i have notice something that on the internet bar signal some times i get a full signal but but internet runs slow, i told them that and they said that the bar signal shows that you have internet thats all and not the potential of the signal, is it true????
i will appreciate your help guys. thanks in advance.hey baltwo i uninstall manycam and i got this new error.

Kernel panics in new Unibody MBP
Hi,
Got one of the brand new Unibody MBP and I have experienced two kernel panics in two days... One watching a movie, the other browsing internet.
Here's the transcript of the log... Im quite scared as my uncle's new MBP experienced several kernel panics until Apple exchanged ram and the HD.
Any ideas on what this is?
Many thanks!
jg

Can too much RAM memory in a late 2011 model macbook pro lead to kernel panic? That is what I was told by a senior supervisor from apple support who troubleshot this issue.First noticed this problem in Dec 2014 while using a private wifi at a relative's home. Did not occur again until Feb1 using a public wifi at a hotel. Never happened on my private wifi network until last night attempting to use airplay. ( have used airplay before without issue). Late 2011 MacBook Pro running 10.9.5; 2.4 GHz Intel core i7, 16 GB DDR3,AMD Radeon HD 6770m 1024 MB graphic card. The laptop came with 8GB RAM and I installed 8 GB about 2 years ago for some reason I cannot remember... probably because I thought the system was slowing down a little. I know that sounds silly. I do not run multiple programs at a time except I leave 6-8 website tabs open simultaneously. I don't photo or video edit. I would describe my use as "light" based on reading these blogs.I had purchased apple support and spent hours on the phone with them in early Feb moving up through support and senior support to sending logs to the "engineers." Of course lots of things were done some of which I am sorry to report I cannot recall their technical definitions. Deleted 3rd party apps/programs; re-worked start up menu; re-installed operating system; reset " this, that and the other" using acrobatic simultaneous key strokes both in and out of safe mode..Anyway the results from the engineers came back and they suggested that if it happened again I was to remove the 8GB of RAM I had installed as the system was getting confused as to which chip to use.( that is my interpretation of what was said..prob dumbed down for me)...Anyway 1 day after these pronouncements came down I read that Apple had agreed to fix graphics cards in some late model 2011 MBPs. I felt this was unlikely to be the issue given all that had been done including an extended hardware test but called the Senior Support Supervisor I was working with to ask him to make sure. He never phoned me back. Should I go to the trouble of removing 8GB of RAM from my laptop? Of course I will try it as the alternative is a new computer.Blogs read that this model can support 16GB but Apple didn't test for it. Senior Supervisor claims this is my trouble. Does that make sense? Not to me....but it is clear to all my level of knowledge. Can a malfunctioning graphics card be missed by an extended hardware test? I appreciate comments.
The RAM needs specs as shown below.

16 GB (Actual) 8 GB (Apple)
