Keyboard Auto-Off?

Hello,
Does anybody know if you can configure your keyboard and mouse to power off automatically? These should be settings? If not, then the engineers who came up with these things should be shot. Or course, it would make for a fun virus, but in the day and age of conservation burning through 5 AA batteries every month or two is just too much. And, if you say, "Just turn them off yourself" then you truly don't understand the Mac lifestyle or the Integrated Technology concept. I shouldn't have to think about it, the technology should just work. Or course, I wouldn't mind tapping the power button to power it up after long periods, however, a key-press should do that for you.
Thanks,
Brad

Hello Brad:
Welcome to Apple discussions.
As you may or may not know, Apple wireless devices go into a very low power mode after a short period of non-use. Your overall battery usage is a direct result of how much you use your system - not powering off or on.
If the usage is a problem (it was for me), I suggest you consider switching to rechargeable batteries. I use 2650 mAH ones from Duracell (good buys on eBay) and a 15 minute recharger from Energizer. The rechargeables last a bit shorter time (probably due to the fact that they are 1.2 volt vs 1.5 volt). However, that is, for me, irrelevant as recharge time is so fast.

  • Does BT keyboard turn off automatically

just bougt an Apple BT keyboard.
soon will get the magic trackpad
I also bought the MeshWe to connect the two devices.
does the BT keyboard auto power off or do I have to keep the 2 devices 1 inch apart in the MeshWe holder so I can get my finger in between to power off the keyboard.

here is a pic of the 2 devices together in the MeshWe holder

  • HP LaserJet M175nw - is "Auto-Off" *actually* compatible with wifi?

So my new printer was advertised as promised that I could "Achieve up to 50% energy savings, using an HP LaserJet with HP Auto-Off Technology which automatically senses your printing activity, turning your printer off when you don’t need it."
This sounds ideal - I print maybe once every 2-3 days at most. The printer could be in sleep mode for most of the time and surely save me loads of energy. Sadly, after a few days my printer stops accepting print jobs. It's still "on" (green power light) and the control panel on the unit can be accessed, however once going into this sleep mode wifi access is lost and nothing I can do will re-instate the wireless connection (i.e. it should show a steady blue light on the front and the IP address in the LCD screen). All I can do is turn the printer off and back on again then everything works as before.
    I have:
Set a static IP address on the printer (and reserved this allocation via the router)
    Updated to the latest firmware
Confirmed that wireless signal strength is healthy (not too weak, not too near the router)
Now upon reading a few troubleshooting tips (including here on the HP support site stickies) I read the suggestion of "Check that the printer’s “Auto-off” feature is disabled. If this feature is enabled, the printer will power OFF after some period of non-use."
This suggestion seems to indicate that infrequent wireless access and power-saving are mutually exclusive - is this true? Even if the print does indeed "power OFF after some period of non-use", surely waking it from this state (as distinct from completely rebooting the printer) should be sufficient to wake the printer?!
Can anyone confirm just how "supported"/compatible the power-saving and wifi features are on this model? What I'm asking it to do doesn't seem unreasonable - I'd expected some sort of "wake on LAN"-style behaviour...

    Hi,
    Please follow these given steps
press the tool icon on the display > System setup>Energy settings>Wake/Auto On Events>LAN Job> ON
    or
press the tool icon on the display > System setup>Energy settings>Auto Power Down>Wake Event>LAN Job(put a check or select this)
    Hope this helps

SystemUIServer is a background process that controls some of the user interface. Try opening Activity Monitor, in your Applications>Utilities folder and, in the upper right hand corner, copy and paste SystemUIServer. See how much of your CPU % that it's using. There might be a memory leak with one of the applications that you're running - though I've never seen it with PS CS6 and/or Safari. If it's using even 1% of your CPU, quit the process (it will relaunch).
If you're still running Lion, as your profile says, I would try upgrading to Mountain Lion to see if some - if not all - of your random log-off issues stop. 10.7.4 is not really very stable with the 2012 MBPs and I see a number of processes running that are giving you fits. ML may recitify most of them.
Don't really know what else to tell you - perhaps someone else can come along and comment about some of the other items in your log.

  • Canon 6D display language resets to chinese after auto off and indicates card full

Just assembled my new 6D  with 24-105 mm and display comes in urecognizable language, after changing into english it reminds me that unused new memory card is full, so I reformat and seems ok... BUT when starting after auto off again the same unrecognizable language and full card !
I have taken battery out and put in again, reset to default, changed card, and keeps doing the same.
    Any suggestions ?

It could be the GPS in your camera IF you have been secretly kidnapped in your sleep, and placed somewhere in China, inside a cleverly detailed re-creation of your normal surroundings.  The persons responsible thought of everything BUT the GPS in your camera sensing your true location and resetting the default menu language to Mandarin.
Investigate this, but very, very carefully.

  • Early 2008 MacBookPro keyboard backlight off and fans run at high speed

    Hi!
    I wrote from Turkey.
My Early 2008 MacBookPro 2.40 ghz 4 gb Ram OSX Mavericks machine's keyboard backlight off and fans run at high speed; it seems an exact smc resetting problem.
So i tried the 2 ways of SMC restting procedure; both battery you can move and not, but nothings changed on the situation..
On the way for removable battery; nothing changed but on the way for umremovable battery way; keyboard backlight flashes and gone, but fans are at high speed not changed. So nothing changed.
What can i do right now? i'll wait for your advices
    Thanks

Your Mac may need a new PRAM battery.  Once it is over 4 years old, that often is needed.

Does the App launch form the Applications Folder rather than the DOCK ?
The icons in the DOCK are links to the App. Sometimes this link can get broken.

    What kind of noise?
The only things I can think of that make noise are fans and disks. Fans usually will not cause the computer to shutdown as you describe. My guess is your disk drive died. I hope you made a backup prior to start the ungrade.

How to set wireless printer at ad Hoc mode in CP1025nw with auto-off is off?? ie  never auto-off!!
Thank you very much for your help if any!!
    This question was solved.
    View Solution.

Quite a few questions there, Sends, but I will do what I can to answer them.
I would first recommend buying a router, even if it is one that you won't connect to the internet and network this with your other PCs and the printer. This will give you the best functionality and results for what you are attempting to do.
Additionally, the Auto Off feature of the printer can be disabled, and is not affected by the connection type. You can usually go through the Setup Menu and select Tools to change the options there on the energy saving features.
Lastly, the auto off feature on your computer is a Windows question, but an easy one to answer. If you are on a laptop you can right-click on the battery in the service tray (bottom right hand corner) and change the energy conservation settings.
You might be better off installing the printer through the USB cord and alternating that based on when you are using it, but that would be optimal only if you are printing only a few documents on an irregular basis. A networked connection is the easiest to manage over several computers, honesty, but you do have some requirements for that connection and limitations as well.
I hope this information is useful!

  • Print jobs stuck in queue after printer goes auto off

Hi all!We have an HP LaserJet M125NW printer in the office, which is connected directly to the network (wired). The problem is, once the printer goes to "auto off" mode, the print jobs get stuck in the queue, and we need to restart the printer every time. After the restart, it works fine, until it goes auto off again. The device has a fix ip, and it can be seen on the network, everything sems okay, but it still doesn't print. I tried different computers, different operating systems, nothing works. Could anyone help me with this annoying situation?

, Welcome to the forums  I read about the printing issue you're having with your LaserJet M125NW, that will not seem to wake up when you send the print job to be printed out. Below is what I would first suggest trying. Select Setup, System Setup, Energy Settings, Wake/Auto On Events, and in that menu, select "LAN Job" to see if this will help wake the printer up when you send it a print command. Also ensure you have the power to the unit plugged in directly to a wall outlet. Avoid power bars and surge protectors, which ensures the printer is receiving the full power it needs.  Let me know what happens, good luck

  • Keyboard turning off

I just purchased the apple wireless keyboard. i use it with my 12" PB and a 23" cinema display. However, when i put the computer to sleep, the keyboard eventually will go into sleep mode itself after a few minutes, and when the computer senses "connection lost" from the keyboard it wakes back up. so i put my computer to sleep, the keyboard turns off after awhile, and then the computer automatically turns back on. it's very annoying as i'm trying to sleep because the screen is so bright. i know i could disable allowing bluetooth devices to wake computer, but that is not what i want to do. has this problem been seen anywhere else? any fixes? thanks.

I have a similar problem with a Mini, whose BT reception seems awfully poor with the new AL keyboards and a "Lost Signal" message will appear every 5 minutes (I already replaced the KB once and no dice).
The solution for not having it turning back on the computer is to check off "Allow Bluetooth devices to wake this computer" (System Preferences > Keyboard & Mouse > Bluetooth). Note that in doing this you won't be able to hit the keyboard to wake the computer... anyway, I think the real problem isn't that your KB goes to sleep, but that it breaks the wireless link, so the computer complains, your problems does not seem as severe as mine, though.

  • Z220 SCREEN/DISPLAY auto off

Good Day to all, I have already filed a ticket or issue to acer regarding this, but as much as possible I need an easy access response. The issue is about the phone automatically shut down, not the system/phone more like just the screen/display. And using power button to wake it up cannot solve the issue, so what I did was that I removed and re-insert the battery to restart it. However, it took me several times before i was able to make it stop and I could not even make it to home screen to settings. When I was able to make it through the settings, I hastely factory resetted it. But it did not fix the issue since I was able to experience it again and again.  Another one, is that it seems the display can't be viewed in every sides or angles coz it seems the color or the screen itself changes like it was struck by sunlight or by a bright light that I could not clearly see the display, in every case or situation, daytime and nighttime. I dont know if this is a hardware error or if this is normal based on the priced that I paid for it. Because I haven't experienced it ever in my years of using and observing my phones and my friend's phone. This Z220, lollipop 5.0, price is just less than the $100 or to be exact, PHP 2990.00 and this made me decide to buy this one, and it's been only a week since I bought it last July 26, 2015. Maybe this is what they say, "you get what you paid for. " I hope I could get a response as soon as possible. And I will be able to pull this one off.  Thanks and Godspeed!

Update! Good day to all, One of the support agent called me earlier again regarding my issue and suggested to go back and check for a replacement in the store where I bought this one. And that, I was able to received a new one and to see if it has the same issue regarding the view angle, and to my expectations, it still has the same view angle issue because of the material used for this cheap Z220. Which is TFT capacitive touch, a display specs or hardware part. Though it was not indicated that it is a TFT but based on what I have read about different kinds/types of display, it is more likely a TFT display issue, wherein it has a view angle issue or limited view angle but a cheap one that is widely use for budget phones.  Regarding the first issue, I do hope with this new replacement, I will not be able to experience it again. Since this could not be fix by some techies for now. And I hope I will be able to continue using this for years to come as I'm the type of person who values everything even if it is a cheap one.  Hence, the auto off of the screen/display is still unsolved but I think I could not expect more response regarding this. Thanks IronFly for the response. Godbless to all.
