How does a person copy and paste keyframes in the motion tab?

You can use the 'Paste Attributes' function to copy and paste keyframable attributes such as filters, and all the parameters in the Motion Tab (as well as others).
You can't however, directly copy & paste keyframes by selecting them on the Keyframe Timeline in the viewer Motion Tab.
To Paste Attributes, select the clip you want to copy, press command+C, then select the clip you want to paste certain attributes to and press Option+V. Then tick whichever attributes you want to paste from the little window that pops up.

  • Keyframe help

    Using Keyframes in Color has been very confusing. Maybe my workflow isn`t the right one. Any suggestion will help:
    I have 3 to 4 minutes clips to color correct.
    Each clip has:
    - Primary corrections via Highlights Midtones Shadows and saturation.
    - 8 secondaries via Highlights Midtones and Shadows, Saturation, KeyBlur and HSL (2 with vignette).
    I have all my grades ready. In each 3 to 4 minutes clip, I have to go from grade A to grade B via keying (for primaries and for secondaries). Sometimes from A to B to C (3 different grades).
    Now that I have my A and B grade, my plan was to set up key frames in primary and in secondaries and load grade A and grade B to each key frame.
    For some reason, sometimes I add a keyframe but it doesn`t show up in the time line or it shows up but it s not conneced to another one... Going from one key frame to another is also not always working... Dragging a Keyframe is not always working well ...
    The manual is not very detailed about all this...
    What is the correct worflow? Add the key frames and then load the grade A then B? What about when it`s from A to B to C? Why is a Keyframe sometimes not connected to another one? Am I missing something? Is my method the wrong one?

    You need to recast your paradigm for keyframing.
    Keyframes only effect the room you're in.
    You can keyframe each of your Primaries, 8 secondaries, each ColorFX node, and Geometry Room separately.
    You can't keyframe grades turning on or off, rooms turning on or off (though you could keyframe back to neutral).
    You can create 4 completely different grades. Render each out separately and do dissolves between in editorial - but that's a hack compared to what you want to do.
    Also, once you add a keyframe all parameters lock on that shot. To make further changes you must make them where a keyframe exists. So you need to add a second keyframe and then sit on that keyframe to make your change.
    So:
    Each of the 4 grades are independent of the others. There is no way to switch between them via keyframes.
    Each Room is independent of all the others and can not trigger actions.
    Once added, a keyframe locks down any further changes in that room. To make changes you must be parked on a keyframe first - meaning keyframe #2 must be added before making the tweak. Color does not auto-add keyframes.

  • Motion keyframes help

    I'm struggling with a couple of issues with motion keyframes in FCE (there is no documentation on this feature in the FCE manual).
    1) In a number of still images, I simply want one keyframe at the beginning of the clip, and one at the end. It seems that no matter what order I create keyframes in, I always seem to have to redo the first keyframe. That is, I create the first keyframe (the diagonal cross hairs turn green), then I create the second keyframe, adjust parameters, etc. When I return to the first keyframe in the clip, it's gone, and I have to recreate it. Generally it seems to "stick" after the second attempt.
    Can someone enlighten me as to what I might be doing wrong here?
    2) A couple of times I've wanted to razor the clip in the middle, and then dissolve it into itself at a different zoom. Unfortunately, after dividing the clip, I have a devil of a time finding the keyframes. I think what might be happening is that each clip half ends up with unreachable keyframes--I know this happens with audio level and opacity keyframes, so it makes sense that it would happen with motion--but since you can't "see" the keyframes on the timeline, it's difficult to know what's going on. Anyway, I've decided it's just a bad idea to do this--better to start with a clean clip and apply the motion keyframes from scratch. Still, if anyone has any suggestions on how to better manage (and visualize) keyframes, I would appreciate hearing them.

    I often find that the first keyframe won't stick...not always, but a fair percentage of the time. I just accepted it as a quirk of the program.
    Also sometimes if I play around in the middle of a clip with zoom or motion, then move to where I'd like to actually like to insert that motion keyframe I find that FCE kinda insert one for me back where I was playing around.
    So i've stopped....
    ..playing around, that is...
    ...i mean, in the middle of the clip. I am more careful now to think about where i am goind to want my keyframe, then go there, then muck about with the settings, THEN insert a keyframe there...
    .....THEN after I do the second keyframe, go back and redo that first keyframe that has inexplicably gone on vacation.
    I wonder if the keyboard shortcut would work better than the mouse click/button push? Like, would it be more likely to register? Then again, I DO always make sure that my crosshairs register a hit (go green) so that should be a good enough confirmation that the mouse click/buttonpush worked...

  • Keyframe help - green screen

    I need advice. I have shot a large object against a green screen. I need to make it look like the object is in the trunk of a car driving away from me. I have footage of both. The object of course was stationary when I shot it. So, I need to make is stay proportional to the car as it gets further away from me. I know I'll have to use keyframes. Does anyone have any suggestions?

    Are you familiar with Motion?
    Read up on "Tracking", basically you use the tracking tools to determine the movement of the car and transfer that information to the stationary object. When composited, this should ideally give the impression that the two are moving together.
    Not always simple, has a steep learning curve and takes lots of practice.

  • Audio Mixer Issue... Please Help

    I posted this message a few days back and got it working but now it seems nothing I do works (see Below)
    When ever i try and "Write" an audio mix, after i'm done writing and switch to "Read" the track automaticly gets set back to zero like nothing happened. I have turned off "switch to touch after read" as always. Any clue what is happening here? I restarted the program and even change the audio files around but still no help. I set the track to show keyframes and I see nothing happening to the keyframes when writing... it's like the mixer is ignoring me

    Going back, adjusting the View of the Track Keyframes helped. Obviously, something else is not working. Based on Dennis' comments, I wonder if Adobe has changed how the Audio Mixer works in CS4+. I only have PrPro 2.0, so I cannot even check, but I think that the playing field might have shifted in later versions. What version are you working in? I have a feeling that what I might tell you will be moot, and that someone else will need to chime-in, like Dennis.

  • Problem rendering 3D animation to video

    Trying to render a small but high quality version of a 3-second 3D animation to video (using QuickTime, Medium Animation quality) in CS6, running OSX.7.4. On the Ray-Traced Draft setting, it renders to video just fine. But on the Ray-Traced Final setting, less than 1 second renders, then I get "Could not complete your request because of a program error". A partial video file is created where I see my animated object, originally very colorful, has now turned solid black. When i go back to my PSD file after this error, I see my colorful object, but when I hit Play, the object appears black. It is not a hardware or RAM issue. I've troubleshot this problem down to this file, and further, to this one object in this file (it renders fine when i delete the object.) The object is a 3D postcard made from an imported layer that measures 1920 x 720 pixels at 72 ppi. I have deleted it, reimported the original art and recreated the 3D postcard with slightly different movement--same thing. Is the movement too extreme? Would more keyframes help? I have 3 keyframes on the 3D Scene Position timeline which (3 seconds at 15 fps)--the starting position which is out of the frame, then it moves it to the center keyframe where it rotates 60° to fill the width of the document at the final keyframe. Any help would be greatly appreciated!

  • Panic help!!! Why do keyframe parameters not seem to move when I move layer

    Hi, I am about to throw Motion out the window, it's driving me mad, hopefully due to my ignorance, and I can't seem to find any reference to it, but for some reason, if I have animation parameters set in keyframes, then I offset the layer slightly ie move it a couple of frames left or right etc, the animation seems to get completely messed up, I'm guessing it doesn't move, with the layer although that might be too simplistic.
    Please help, I'm taking days to keep redoing things in Motion.
    Is there a way to make sure that all settings and parameters remain set when moving a layer???

    Motion is awesome for keyframe manipulation. If you are running into a problem that, to me it sounds like you're saying that you are moving your clip in the timeline and the keyframes don't stay timed to the clip, I would say that there is something being overlooked. Wihtout seeing it first hand I don't know what you would be doing wrong but have a solution that might satisfy you. If you haven't tried this before I think you will be tickled with how nice this is. With the clip you wish to manipulate selected go into the tab marked "Keyframe Editor". From there you can select keyframes (single or multiple) and totally manipulate the parameters of your clip. This is great for correcting timing issues with your movement as well. Here you can also see a column to the left that shows you a legend of what each color coted keyframe line is within this editor and you can deselect which ones you don't need to manipulate at the moment. Deactivate them by unchecking them (which only deactivates your view of them at the moment not their function) and clear them out of the way so that you can manipulate just the parameters you want to for the moment. You can also right click on each keyframe and get a bevvy of options.

  • HELP: Unintentional audio keyframing

    Hi,
    I'm not sure how else to describe the problem aside from unintentional audio keyframing, but not that is visible in any individual audio tracks.
    Here's what's happening.
    I have a single video clip of someone entering a car.  when he's in the car and the door shuts, I have key framed 3 of the audio tracks to drop from +10 to -10 decibels to simulate the effect of the closed door.
    the three audio tracks are car alarms going on outside.
    everything was fine until some point last night I think I hit a combination of keys that have somehow linked these audio tracks and changed their levels, because shortly after the actor closes the car door and starts speaking, the car alarm volumes get louder.
    no keyframes or level changes are visible in the individual tracks, and when I play them individually there is not a problem.
    furthermore, I rebuilt the entire three audio track sequence from scratch and re-keyframed everything, and when I play it back the proble occurs.  if i turn off the vocal tracks and just play the alarms there is no problem, so it kind of comes and goes.
    last thing, around the time that this happened there was a horizontal red line across the hash marks of the timeline - i have never seen this before.
    did i somehow link a whole cluster of clips to an unintentional audio shift?  i've got a pretty good handle on this software but I am baffled.  (i even exported a movie of the subject sequence and the problem exists in the mov file too.)

    I've tried that - thanks.  Re-rendering made no difference.  I can see keyframes in other clips - with this situation there is absolutely no obvious reason why the volume level changes so dramatically.
    I ended up rebuilding the whole audio sequence again from scratch on different tracks and it's OK now.  I did a work-around.

  • Keyframing video effects??? Please help

    hello, I am trying to keyframe a video effect, "line art" in particular off...eg have line art keyframe to the original clip. Within the filters tab of the viewer I only have options to keyframe specific parameters of this effect however there are no combinations of these parameters that will allow me to keyframe back to the origianal video.
    The only way that i can do something similar is to stack the same clip on 2 tracks and keyframe opacity.
    Is there an easier way??

    I'm not having trouble with dissolve keyframing. Im using 9 individual frames to make a grid with transitions throghout. < </div>
    That's a completely different situation than the one you posted originally.
    Nest the nine frames. Apply individual keyframes as you call them for other effects to the separate layers in the upstream sequence. Apply your dissolve or keyframe off as you say to the nested sequence in the downstream version.

  • Help! camera movements changing b/w keyframes

    Please help!  I'm making a kinetic type video and the camera movements change in between the keyframes I set up.  For example; if I want the camera to just shift to the right, I copy the frame position, and then change the X axis.  When I switch between the two frames everything is right, except the frames that AE makes up in between is also changing the Y axis... but the Y is the same on each keyframe.  I've tried looking everywhere for help, everywhere in the program, tried re-doing it mutiple times, restarting AE, ect and I cant figure it out... Please help!

    You have a "boomrang" effect, and this can be corrected easily. Select your keyframes, right click and go to "Keyframe Interpolation" and select "linear".
    In the preferences menu (edit > preferences > general) you can check the preference "default interpretation to linear" wich is unchecked by default.
    Also, one of the neat new feature of AE CS4 is the ability to separate dimensions. It's really time saving when animating cameras or complicated x,y,z mouvement. For that, select your position property, right clic and select "separate dimension". Now you will be able to animate the x,y,z property independantly.

    Open the video animation (Control-v). In transform>All click and drag the X and Y keyframes (which should be together) – left to speed up the scale change and right to slow it down . It may take a little practice to get this to work (I seldom get it right the first try).
    You could do this individually for each clip, or you wanted to adjust multiple clips you can copy and paste attributes to your other other clips.

    The vector isn't particularly relevant, at least in terms of the search. The real problem is that you have an ordered (reportedly) array of string and for some reason you're searching through it sequentially. You should use a binary search to find the matching strings. See java.util.Arrays.binarySearch.
    Now, this is probably wrong:

         searchResults.toArray(returnArray);Vector.capacity returns how much the vector can hold, not how much it's actually holding. So you're passing toArray an array much larger than it actually needs, most likely. I have no idea what the behavior of toArray is in those circumstances but it's probably not good. You probably meant to do something more like:
    return searchResults.toArray(new String[searchResults.size()]);Another problem is that you're using a Vector, and not a LinkedList.

  • Expression needed!! Any help appreciated. Using audio converted keyframes

    Hi all,
    I'm hoping this isn't to much of a complicated issue. I use after effects regularly but the expression stuff does have me baffled. I can convert the audio to keyframes with out an issue. What I'm trying to achieve is this - I have a talking head with the bottom mouth part cut on a sperate layer. i'd like the mouth layer to move up and down being driven by the audio. I can pick whip to the audio no problem but then I need to ensure it only effects one of the position values and also 'fine tune' how the audio effects that value.

    OK, I have managed to get it to do pretty much what I need to do. the only problem i have now is changing the value representation on the slider. i know you can right click the slider to change the value but when i link with the expression, the slider value changes back to 0-100. I can get around the problem by changing the anchor point but surely there must be away to 'control' the value representation in the slider??

  • New Effect Keyframe Motion Help

    I've added a new effect and am just trying to move something across the screen like I would in FCP.
    The object starts at one point, I have clicked the 1st keyframe of the New Effect track, move the timeline to the last keyframe of the New Effect Track, and then drag the object where I want it on the screen.
    This kind of works but the object goes backwards, meaning it starts where I want it to end and ends where I want it to finish.
    How can I just get an object to go where I drag it and then stay there?

    You need to tell us more specific information
    What object are you using?
    Which effects are you using?
    How many total keyframes do you have?
    Start from the beginning of your timeline and then hit Shift-K...click on the Effects tab in the Inspector and tell us what it says under the Active Parameters.
    Hit shift-K again and tell us what it says under the active Parameters.
    Do this for each keyframe then we can more specifically help you.
