Kicked off server at work   REASON: VIRUS

A friend of mine who works at a school and connects to their network has been booted off their network and the tech informed him that the reason was that they scanned and found a virus on the network that traced back to his macbook.
I have searched the macbook and nothing seems to be working oddly, he doesnt have a virus scan nor did I reccommend him getting one. Any ideas? Anyone hear anything like this before?
Thanks
Bren
PowerBook G4 Mac OS X (10.4.8)

If he is using Windows on his Mac then yes it is possible.
If he has received an e-mail with an attachment on it with a macro virus, that can also be a problem. He should look for .doc, .xls, and .pif extension files attached to his e-mail documents and remove them, and ask the sender if he knows the sender to resend the information in plain text. While the Mac won't be impacted by such attachments unless you actually open Word or Excel for the Mac and have macro running turned on, the virtue of having received such an e-mail alone would be enough to trigger alarms on the school's firewall.

  • Working Off Server at work

I have a new iMac running 10.6.2. Working directly off of a Server at work. Sometimes accessing the files or opening, there is a long delay. Usually better after returning to same location(per session) but not always... When I was running 10.4.11 on an old G5, everything was very snappy off of the server. No delays. Feels muddy when retrieving and opening some files. Once retrieved or opened, their response is fine.
Also, some folders will not display in 'List' view. Column and Icon view yes... I have tried deleting .DS_store files, but still no luck.
This is not a Mac OSX Server. Maxtor I believe...

  • Kicked off server

    Hiya all
I have two remote Win98 PCs connecting to our Netware 6.0sp5 server via
VPN. I've recently changed ISPs, and what this meant is a change in the
way these remote sites were connecting.
Previously I was using a server called TLAN. What this did is connect
the renote sites directly to our ADSL modem, sort of like a direct ISDN
    line, so there wasn't a VPN tunnel, or a firewall at the remote site;
our headoffice firewall was setup to allow traffic from these remote
    sites and everything was fine.
Now these remote sites have standard ADSL lines using Netcomm NB5580
ASDL modems that allow VPN end points. The VPN connections from these
    remote sites are working fine.
What is happening is these remote PC's can login to the server without a
problem, but when you browse to certain directories on the server, they
are booted from the server. The connection to the VPN continues to work
fine (ie can ping the server and anything else on the head office
network). Yet *sometimes* these directories can be browsed, but as soon
as I copy any files from the server, they are booted from the server.
This appears to only happen on the Netware server. I connected to a
Win2k server and am having no problems - I can browse and copy to my
    hearts content.
So I'm not sure what to check for. What would cause certain directories
to boot a client from the server, and whenever a file is copied?
I'm using the lastest Win98 client (3.4) and have reinstalled it,
disabled the remote sites firewalls and the logs on the head office
firewall show no packets being dropped from the remote sites.
    Any thoughts??
    Thanks!
    Matt

    Hey Edison
The MTU settings don't appear to be making any difference. I've dropped
it all the way back to 700 and it's still happening.
What I do know now is it only happens when copying from the server. If I
copy a file *to* the server, it's fine. But if I copy anything *from*
    the server, it looses connection.
I've also removed the Netware client and connecting using CIFs, and the
same thing happens. Although, I don't loose connection to the server -
Windows just complains the resource is no longer available.
I just logged into another NW6.0sp5 server, and it works fine. It just
appears to be the main server that is having the problem.
Any other thoughts? It seems really odd that I can copy to the server,
    but not from it.
    Thanks
    Matt

  • Getting kicked off of VNC connection when logging into server

We have noticed that when we log into the VNC server, and sign into the console of the server, that we get kicked off of the VNC connection. If we wait a few seconds then connect again we get the desktop of the server.
What is causing this? I use JollysFastVNC 0.98.50 (928701) and a coworker of mine uses ChickenoftheVNC, both are on Macs. It is very annoying. I do like that when I'm done and I log off of the console that it also logs me out of the VNC connection. But kicking me out for logging in is absurd.
    Thanks,
    Ben
PS. The server is Mac OS X 10.6.1 on a Mac Mini last generation, since they just came out with a new one.

I linked to the free client. That is what runs on the computer that you you turn on in System Preferences --> Sharing, so you are going to want to install that on the server, not the machine you are connecting from. If you installed it on both it doesn't matter—it was there anyway as part of the OS. It is built into the OS, but a reinstall can fix problems and makes sure you have the latest version. The ARD application is what you would use to connect with from the machine you are sitting in front of. That is what costs money. Apple calling the software "client" can be confusing.
Have you turned on the VNC option under either Screen Sharing or Remote Management. You will need that to connect with a third party VNC app like JollysFastVNC or Tight. If you don't turn that on then the built in Screen Sharing app should just work (accessible from Safari or the Connect to Server dialog in finder by typing vnc://ipofserver)
It is hard to say if this is a SL bug, or a problem on your network since you only have one machine to test. You could try running Vine Server on your server. You will want to change it's port to something else like 5901, or at least turn off Screen Sharing so it doesn't conflict ports. If you change the port you would connect by typing vnc://ipofserver:5901
In Vine be sure to use System Server (under Server menu) to keep vine running all the time, even after a reboot.

  • EA4500 2 questions-- linksyssmartwifi not working fine and kick off users

I have my new EA4500 router and following 2 questions confused me.
    1. I have registered my router with linksyssmartwifi.com and after router reboot or reconnect to internet, I can access to my router using my IOS devices or android devices. But after half an hour or even 15 minutes, the router will not be accessed anymore. There's an error message saying my router is not connect to internet, but at the same time devices in local LAN can access to Internet and also I can access my NAS through EA4500 from internet. I have reset the devices several times but this issue still there. Any suggestions?
    2. Is it possible to kick off the WIFI devices using local admin web access or linksys smart wifi tool? Or need any other software to make it possible?
    Thanks

When you received that error message on your phone, are you still getting internet access connected to your router's wifi network? If so, then I think the router is fine because it is transmitting internet connection to your phone and other devices. You don't have to reset the device. I think it's the app that's having the problem. You can try uninstalling and reinstalling the app or close/reopen the app.
Another way to isolate the problem is to access linksys smart wifi on a wired or wireless computer. Check if it's receiving the same error message as your phone after several minutes. If linksys smart wifi on the computer is not giving you that error message, then definitely, it's an app issue.
Regarding your second question, you can choose any of the options below to prevent internet access from a specific device:
    1. Block internet access on particular device using parental control. This will block internet access but the device is still connected to the network so it still has access to shared files or NAS.
    2. Change your router wireless password. This will disconnect devices that you don't want to have access to the network, unless the user finds a way to know your new password.
    3. Enable mac filtering on your router. Mac filtering is in the wireless tab of linksys smart wifi. Select “Deny” access for the listed mac address , add the mac address of the device you don't want to give wifi access then click apply.
I tried these steps before and they worked just fine.

  • DFSR error 9226 when Barracuda Backup kicks-off. (No DFSR installed on Server)

I have a server 2012 Essentials VM on VMware.  The issue I am having is with my Barracuda Backup.
Almost every night when my Barracuda backup kicks off (the time stamp of the error matches the Barracuda kick-off time), I get a DFSR error in the Server Log:
NOTE: DFSR services are NOT installed nor configured on this WIN 2012 essentials server.
Critical Errors in Event Logs in Last 24 Hours
     DFSR
    Event ID: 3221229476
The DFS Replication service stopped replication on the replicated folder at
    local path C:\Windows\SYSVOL\domain.
    Additional Information:
Error: 9226 (Multiple volumes share the same volume serial number which prevents DFSR from finding the right volume)
    Additional context of the error:
    Replicated Folder Name: SYSVOL Share
    Replicated Folder ID: 3421DB23-8B10-41FB-B1B0-9BA04AA64B62
Replication Group Name: Domain System Volume
    Replication Group ID: AD952CE1-863A-499B-B16A-D4178DF58EF1
    Member ID: 4575C511-6DA8-405C-A47C-F9161D839650
The issue I am trying to resolve (and quite honestly I don't know if they are related) is that my Barracuda backup backs up more data each night than I have on the entire server.  It backs up about 124 GB -126 GB each night.
It is supposed to only back up changed blocks, which I would guess would be around 6-8 GB per night for this particular server.
I have two other sites set up just like this and they backup properly. See a comparison of the 3 backup logs here:   Backup Logs
The server has 2 volumes. A 60 GB OS volume with approx 33 GB used, and a 100 GB data volume with approx 33 GB used. For a total of approx 66 GB of data on the guest.  160 GB total space available.
If I understand DFSR correctly, I do not need this functionality on this particular server.
I don't want to get Barracuda any more involved at this point until I KNOW for certain it is NOT a VMware or SBS 2012 issue.
Any thoughts would be appreciated.   Thanks.

  • SCEP 2012 clients kicking off random scans

We have an SCCM 2012 environment with SCEP 2012 recently deployed. We have a policy in place that does weekly full scans on Tuesdays at 12AM.  The client machines are 64 bit Windows 7.  We are seeing some random computers kicking off Full scans
at various points in the day.  We thought that initially there were viruses on these machines and that was causing the scans, but according to the EP console, they do not have any type of virus or malware.
    Any ideas?

Here is the way MS does such things. (Update works this way too) It is STUPID, of course, but then "SMART" is not a word that fits Microsoft very well. Just look at Windows 8 for an example or to the fact you can't even find a simple link to the
SCEP client for what ever happens to be the latest greatest version.
As for the auto scanning, it will occur REGARDLESS of the time set shortly after you start your PC if it was not able to do it at the appointed time. So if it is set for 12am, and if the system, for whatever reason was not on, it will kick off shorty after
it is booted, REGARDLESS of the current time. (It is supposed to wait until the system is idle, but MS uses lack of keyboard or mouse action to decide if a system is active instead of actually looking to see if its. For example watching a movie. MS would say
after five minutes, it is inactive, then run the scan, screen save, update, or whatever. Maybe you were just reading a long email, letter, or article online, doesn't matter MS will kick off the scheduled event. Of course this will cause problems for the movie
etc, but MS won't care. Bottom line is if the MS AV is doing its job, or anyone's Av for that matter, and was installed on a 100% clean PC, then one should NEVER need to do a blind system scan. Common sense really. Of course MS AV is not very good at preventing
the more destructive of the evils out there such as the Ransomewares and things like the ASK or the Google toolbar or the many fake "fix your PC" popups that are out there etc. etc.
Best just to keep it disabled.

  • Getting Kicked off of My Own WiFi Network

I've been having trouble for awhile now that I will be kicked off of my own wifi network. It will then not recognize the password (which is saved to app, 1Password) for several minutes, saying its incorrect, before finally reconnecting. I don't know what the issue is and why this is happening but I'd like to fix it. It's causing me to use data on my cell phone and have trouble working on my laptop.  Here is all of the technical information I can think to provide: MacBook Pro 2011, running Yosemite 10.10.4iPhone 6, running iOS 8.4iPad 3, running iOS 8.4Apple Airport Express, version 7.6.4 Actiontec Router MI424WRI Using a WPA2 Encrytption25/25 Mpbs Internet If anyone can help offer insight to the problem I'd appreciate it. Any questions that I need to provide more info, let me know. Thank you for your help.

The AirPort is hardwired. I have a cable running from it to the Actiontec. I use the AirPort for a few reasons: • I live in a duplex and the FiOS had to be installed in the basement (which I don't have access to).• The FiOS is wired up thru the floor and behind my TV, so I've had trouble keeping a signal without the AirPort.  The AirPort does have a different password, but it is also saved to 1Password, so the system should have no trouble with finding it. I've also configured the IP. I just don't get why it randomly, intermittently will disconnect. It's mainly at night too.  As far as I thought, I have to have the wifi on for the Actiontec. It's wired to my TV thru the HDMI for the FiOS connection.

  • My E3000 keeps kicking off my iphone 4's and my Logitech Revue Why?

I had an old Linksys, and sometimes my iphones would get on the wifi, then the next day it would get kicked off and I would be unable to log in, it says "Unable to Log on", then for some strange reason, the next day I can get on.  Then for several days or weeks, I could no longer get on.
So I would try and unplug, reset, etc.  Nothing.
So I bought the new one, and it was totally fine for the first several weeks, and now, again, same problems!!!
What's more weird, my ipad 2 will connect and stay connected, but not my iphone 4's or Logitech Revue.
Please help, it's driving me nuts!

Your other wireless devices are able to connect to the wireless network they can access the Internet through the router. I think your router is working fine. You had the same problem with old router so I think it might be the problem with Iphone.
Try changing some wireless settings on the router and see if that helps you.
Connect the computer to the router with the Ethernet cable. Open the setup page of the router. Go to Wireless tab and set the configuration view to manual. Change the wireless network name SSID for 5 GHz wireless band so that both the bands will have different SSID.
Change the wireless channel to 11 for 2.4 Ghz wireless band. Save the settings.
Click on Advanced wireless settings sub tab. Change the Beacon interval to 75, RTS and fragmentation threshold to 2304. Save the settings. Power cycle the router and try to connect to the wireless network.
What is the firmware version on your router?

I'm on giffgaff and I used the giffgaff app from the store to sort this out.
Overall though I must say Apple has let itself down on this as why isn't something written in the ios script that keeps the original settings??

  • Kicked off internet even though still connected wirelessly.

I bought a new iMac about 3 weeks ago. My router went out a week later and had to be replaced. I got the new router in and the computer working wirelessly, and then I downloaded the new OS X. Ever since then I get kicked off the internet about every 2-3 hours. (The message says Safari can't open the page. Server isn't responding.) If I restart my computer I can get on the internet again. I have checked to see if I can get Wifi for my iPad and iPhone and they work fine, so it doesn't seem to be a router problem. Anyone know what I should do? (On a scale of 1-10, my computer knowledge is about a 3-4, so please keep that in mind if you can offer a possible solution.)

  • Background processes on SAP BW Production stall - kicked off via UC4

    All,
We have the following issue; there 6 background processes available on the BW server. The UC4 (external) scheduler kicked off 3 jobs that in turn was kicking off 3 process chains which were trying to kick off 10  background processes. The result was that 6 background processes were kicked off, seemed to be active (in sm37), but actually stalled (they were not doing anything), it was like they ended up in a deadlock. Normally one would expect the processes to run according to the mechanism that when there are no background processes available, to wait. My guess is that because they were initiated by an external scheduler and demanded more than the total available background processes that mechanism did not work. Has anyone encountered this problem before? And knows why it happens?
    Regards, Meindert

    Hi Meindert,
If I recall correctly I remember having seen this before as well, and then the root cause actually was the way the process chains work. There was (is?) some dependency on free batch processes in the initialization phase of the process chain which lead to hanging processes if you started a few process chains at the same time and there are not enough free batch processes available.
I believe this is internal to SAP so probably not caused by scheduling the chains externally, however your external scheduler could maybe take the number of free batch processes into account. I do not know your external scheduler well enough to explain it for that product, I do know how I would handle it with CPS: I'd use queueing to make sure that there are enough free batch processes available, or I would let it monitor the number of free batch processes on the system and if that would become too low, I'd temporarily hold new process chains that needed to start. The chosen option would depend on the priorities of the processes involved, to make sure that the processes with the highest priorities can always start and always have batch processes available.
    Regards,
    Anton.

  • High level of I/O (large write and then zpool scrub cron kicked off) causin

I have a test server running Solaris x86 patched up to current(April 15th) with pca. My FC adapter is a LSI 929 card (using LSI provided Solaris 10 driver called itmpt). My storage is an old Storagetek 5000 series (I think 5100).
I have been testing ZFS stuff on this before implementing in production environments, all Sparc systems with internal disks or more recent FC arrays. Over the weekend a backup that dumps about 50 GB of data onto the Sol10 x86 machine lasted long enough to still be running when the zfs scrub cron I created kicked off. I wake up to find one pool completely offline with 4 devices showing unavailable and a string of messages about i/o request timeouts. A reboot and scrub with no other activity seems to have fixed it, no errors reported and it stopped saying I should nuke everything and start over (I hate that almost always wrong advice).
Will ZFS on FC always be suceptable to this kind of problem? So far I have not seen this on SATA/SAS but maybe I'm lucky. This makes me wary of scrubbing on production systems.

    Table 3: 118 col, 360MB, 820,259 rows, avg len 266 bytes
The FTS has improved as expected. With 5 physical drives in a RAID0, a performance of
    420MB/s was achieved.
In the write test on the other hand we were not able to archieve any improvement.
    The CTAS statement always works with about 5000 - 6000 BLOCK/s (80MB/s)
But when we tried running several CTAS statements in different sessions, the overall speed increased as expected.
Further tests showed that the write speed seems to depend also on the number of columns. 80MB/s were only
possible with Tables 2 and 3. With Table 1, however only 30MB/s were measured.
If multiple CTAS can produce higher throughput on writes this tells you that it is the production of the data that is the limit, not the writing. Notice in your example that nearly 75% of the time of the CTAS as CPU, not I/O.
The thing about number of columns is that table 1 has exceeded the critical 254 limit - this means Oracle has chained all the rows internally into two pieces; this introduces lots of extra CPU-intensive operations (consistent gets, table access by rowid, heap block compress) so that the CPU time could have gone up significantly, resulting in a lower throughput that you are interpreting as a write problem.
One other thought - if you are currently doing CTAS by "create as select from {real SAP table}" there may be other side effects that you're not going to see. I would do "create test clone of real SAP table", then "create as select from clone" to try and eliminate any such anomalies.

I am having trouble connecting to my network all of a sudden. I am able to connect to other networks but not my own. It is not an issue with the service/router because other devices connect fine. I keep getting kicked off and getting a ! in my airport. Last time it happended I called apple and the suggested I wipe my HD and reinstall everything. I did and it did not work. One day I turned my laptop on and it connected no problem. Now it has kicked me off again. I tried resetting my IP address but that does not work either! Has anyone had this problem?

    Try this:
Apple menu / System Preferences / Network.
Click Location: and select Edit Locations..
Click + (plus sign), and enter a name for the new location - anything will do.
    Apply this.
